So why on earth are they using her? If she's not a "true plus size" then she won't get work in the plus-sized world. And she's not the uber-skinny type they want in the regular modeling world. Girl's being set up for failure.

This show drives me crazy. Tyra is ALWAYS choosing quirky, odd looking girls that could not realistically be models. I actually think the girls this season appear to be more conventionally beautiful than usual, and I'm excited about that.

If you watch other countries' versions of Top Model, or the Petra Nemcova modeling show on Oxygen, those girls are much more representative of types that would actually work in the industry.

I'll admit to watching some of this season. I seriously slacked off for the past few cycles. My main thing this season is to see what happened on the cruise ship episodes. I read about how horrible it was for the other passengers on the ship as they were blocked off from using public areas, weren't able to get in the pools, etc while the film crew and ANTM models were there.

I never did follow up though to see if other passengers got refunded, but I know if I was there, I would be majorly, ridicuously pissed off if I couldn't enter areas that I paid my money for!

I know I can't wait either. I love both Jays, but Miss Jay just cracks me up. I love to hear him talk. He was hilarious on Kimora Lee Simmons' show. His one-liners are the best. One night Kimora was trying to get into this dress for an awards show and it would just not zip up and he whispered to the others in the room, "She looks like an overstuffed ottoman. Well, I just about died. What the heck that looks like I'll never know, but it was so hilarious.

I'll admit here that I have never seen this show, but I work for the company that is producing Italia's Next Top Model and the contract for the original show (anc consequently ours) requires that the girls not have a modelling contract in course when they are cast. Paramount (who produces the show in the US) also has/had extremely strict regulations on the physical requirements of the girls before casting.

My DH is exactly the same way. He mocks the show (and the fact that I watch it) relentlessly, but then hangs around and watches out of the corner of his eye and makes snide remarks the whole time. And since the only models he's really aware of are the Victoria's Secret models, he is constantly saying things like, "None of them are as hot as Alessandra Ambrosio." :rolleyes: Silly DH.

I work with children with autism. One of the major issues that people with autism have is dealing with social situations. She seems quite high functioning and I applaud her, but I can not imagine her doing well in this environment.

Well, the first episode was full of the usual theatricality from Tyra. I have to say, after this many seasons it's kind of wearing thin for me. And the whole bit about America's Next Top Model being a role model and not just a pretty face... yeah, whatever. Just get to the photo shoots, already. :rolleyes:

It's silly to pick favorites this early, but right now I like Saleisha (but I bet she'll be the one who gets labeled "too commercial") and I think Jenah has an interesting look. Ebony is pretty, but the "bitch" never wins. I don't get Mila's look at all-- I was really surprised she made it to the house. I'm sure Heather will go far because Tyra loves a good story, but her awkward body doesn't work for modeling, IMO.

The first episodes are always irritating to me, with all the sob stories and stuff, but this one particularly bugged me for some reason. Maybe I'm just kind of over the show now?

Yeah, I'm curious to see how that pans out. I'm really hoping she'll be okay. I think she's beautiful, but I don't know if she'll be able to handle the pressures of this sort of situation. Kudos to her for even auditioning, though! I bet that took her way out of her comfort zone.

I know some folks who live on the west coast believe that we are one big ol' state - but actually there are a few bridges and tunnels that separate the two... :cool:

Oh, and surely Royal Caribbean would have to compensate the passengers in some other way. They can't just be like "Welcome to your expensive-ass cruise. Enjoy half the amenities at full price."

I always feel bad for whoever gets cut the first few episodes. It really seems like they don't get much of a chance to prove themselves or to take critique from the judges and fix it. Look at Natasha from the last cycle. She easily could have been cut from that first photo shoot, but luck kept her in and she went on to learn and improve every week!

IMO, the girls are thinking, the faster the "weirdo" is gone, the better so why bother extending a hand of friendship? I think a lot of girls their age hear disability and go running because they don't want to have to deal with anything that uncomfortable.

The girls are definitely a lot younger this time around (by necessity they have to be as no one is interested in hiring a green 25 year old model). It makes sense that they are more immature.

I agree with some others that the green/anti-smoking theme is a bit much considering how they'd ignored these causes every other season. I don't think it is very fair to say "no smoking" without offering smoking cessation classes or other remedies. Some people can quit cold turkey. Others are truly addicted physically and mentally. I think it is very naive and unfair to say "quit" without recognizing how addictive smoking really is.

I'm sorry to say that I might be getting tired of Top Model. This week was all about disappointment for me.

The formula is wearing so thin (if it's episode three, it must mean harnesses!) and I think it is always a problem for a reality show when the contestants start referencing previous seasons and/or host buzz words. Bianca --aside from all of the other ways that she is annoying-- is the worst offender. I swear, I think Tyra picked her just because she is a superfan. If she actually knows anything about fashion, I'll eat my hat.

Did anyone see the My Life as a CoverGirl commercial this week? Poor Jaslene. They really need to get her a voice coach like they did for Danielle/Dani two cycles ago. I really like Jaslene but her delivery is so awkward.

Other disappointments:
* They fell back on the old cat-fight thing and kept a girl who isn't so interesting just because she causes drama. Ditto keeping the "plus-size" model - I can't even remember her name, let alone her photo, but she has to stay in order to stick to the formula. I actually liked the one who got cut.
* No one fell down while runway walking in straightjackets (is this a subtle nod to the fact that Trya actually wants someone to have a breakdown?)
* Trya has given up the pirate wench/gypsy queen look of last season, providing me with fewer opportunities to mock her during the judging. Although, I do hope that she shows us more of her obvious talent for accent imitation in the coming weeks. That just might make up for the lack of puzzling headscarves. ;)

I'm sorry, but Ebony is not working for me. She started off as the bitch of the group and now she's acting all wimpy and unsure of herself. Like she walked up to be evaluated like she knew she was going home. What happened to all that confidence and strong, tough attitude? And on top of all of that, I don't think she's really all that attractive.

But there's something about her that I just don't like. I don't want to feel that way b/c she claims to be from my hometown, or least that's where she goes to school. Saleisha is a bit full of herself, but she brings it and serves it to those girls. As Miss Jay would say, she fierce! Not sure that I'm sold on her fierceness, but she won the challenge and she delivered some hot photos in her photo shoot.

Tyra is looking better during the evaluations, but Miss Jay is looking like a H.A.M. (Hot Ass Mess). That afro is not working for me at all. But he's so funny to me, so I just overlook it.

Victoria bugs the shit out of me. My DVR screwed up on Wednesday, so I didn't get to see the episode until last night, but she looked like a drooling moron on the runway. I know that's horribly mean, but pay attention to your facial expressions, woman!

Ebony is such a bitch. I loved that Roy Campbell called her out for slamming into that other girl on the runway. And Bianca is delusional if she thinks she did the best job in that episode. She was mediocre at best.

I knew when Victoria attacked Twiggy for the third time in a row she'd be going home. I really liked her look and hoped she'd go further, but she did kind of turn out to be a bitch.

Tyra totally hit the nail on the head imitating Ebony last night. It made me a little sad because she just has those nervous movements she does and those can be really hard habits to break. Even I said last week that she needs to wipe that smug look off of her face but I really do think now that it is just a nervous thing for her. I hope she can start to be a little more aware of what she is doing with her face because I am starting to like her.

Wow - I never thought my words would come true. But I really feel that this humbled Bianca to realize that she needs to work even harder at this competition. I think the haircut will definitely grow on her and help her become more focused on her facial features at the shoot.

I never thought Sarah had a fair chance at this competition. She's not big enough to be plus-sized and not small enough to be a mainstream model. And the weight loss hasn't brought anywhere near being small enough to be mainstream. I think she's destined to be cut.

Glad Bianca lost the cheap Ken Paves/Jessica Simpson wig. She looks so much better with the short do (not as short as Nnenna. Remember her? You could have seen her scalp!).

Heather - I don't think the producers want to traumatize her if they did something too drastic. It's not nice to pick on the disabled.

Saleisha- She was such a pretty girl premakeover. I hate her hair! It looked like Dorothy Hamil/Dr. Miranda Bailey/Tootie rolled together. I hated the judges saying "we can't see her eyes on this photo." Duh? Of course not, you gave her that unfortunate cut with the puffy bangs! This drives me nuts!:(

DH isn't a fan of the show but he usually enjoys the makeover show. He hung out and watched it last night and commented on who looked good or who looked worse.

There is a reason why Tyra is known as one of the worst human beings in Hollywood. And I think it showed last night. Her reaction to Ebony saying she wanted to leave was incredible. Calling her an "ugly quitter" was rude. I can't believe how angry Tyra looked when Ebony said this is not for me. Ebony never modeled before and maybe she can't handle criticism, but don't you think she could have been "nuturing Tyra" is this instance? There are so many things Tyra could have said to Ebony that was better than "quitters are ugly to me..."

Good for Ebony. I think it's much braver to face panel and quit there and give someone else a chance.

I think what bothered me about the whole Ebony thing was the fact that they showed her taped interview after she had her little exit scene. I felt like the implication was that not only was she a *quitter* but a *liar* because she lost enthusiasm for the whole project. In truth, she probably was just someone who found out that the reality tv world was too much to take. It probably had very little to do with the actual modeling part.

Maybe Ebony could have asked to leave before the judging, and for all we know she did, but I think Tyra could have been a little more understanding about the whole thing. I found it very interesting that they chose to show Tyra get that "How dare you!?" look on her face when Ebony said she wanted to leave. She looked really pissed. I think Tyra's ego has grown to the point that it is absolutely detrimental to the show, and to the girls on the show. Making people scream her name over and over; calling her body guards because she thinks one of them will hit her; trying to shame and discredit someone who wants to leave her show -- none of that is really healthy behavior.

Unless there are some big changes next season, like dumping Tyra as the host, I'm not sure if I can keep watching.

I have to admit that I am just not excited to watch ANTM anymore. I keep waiting for this season to get "good." I am so annoyed with Tyra. I think that all of her "compassion" is fake and that she is completely full of herself. I think that having 2 cycles per year is making the show boring and predictable.

First, I hate to admit it but I kinda agree with Bianca and her take on Heather. Granted, Bianca is jealous of anyone who out-shines her... but Heather's awkward look does not make sense to me. When they were practicing with Tyra and she was crawling on her knees... she looked exactly like the creature from the movie the "Grudge"...

Second, I realize why the model industry is not cut out for everyone. They continued to criticize Sara for loosing weight because she does not fit the "plus size" mold... ummm - how about praising her for achieving a healthier weight instead. And why do they even waste their time and the contestant's time putting plus-size girls in the house every cycle when they know that there will never be a plus-size Top Model to win. :rolleyes: They know Chantal should have been sent home instead.

I think Heather is pretty, and I love the evil eyes she gives to the other girls. She has issues, they need to let up on her, it's part of her disorder to NOT know when something is appropriate or not. I don't think she'll make it as a top model, she's too naive, and too unsure of herself to be out there alone.

I like Chantal, she's pretty but I think "too commercial" for Tyra and company.

Bianca is just driving me nuts with her jealousy. Tootie is cute, but I don't think Top Model either. Jenah is pretty, but I don't like her teeth, which seem to show in everything she does. I don't think they'll like that either

I hope that Lisa will win it all. She's pretty, has the long body they seem to like and takes great pictures. She's already got perfect teeth and there is no "tweaking" they are going to have to do to make her the best. She just needs a lot more confidence!

I agree with everyone about Tootie winning that challene. I don't think she should have one. She has a great walk, but that's about it. I mean the girl really knows how to serve it when she needs to, but she shouldn't have won that particular challenge. And I just don't see how Tyra and the judges can look at her with that hair and continue to think it's cute. It's not....it's a joke!

Bianca's look has really grown on me. She works that short short cut and she has a beautiful smile. She has legs for days and can turn on the charm when she wants to. But that's where it stops for me. Turning on that charm is so fake b/c we all know that she is insecure and so jealous of Heather. Some of the things she may say are true, but then she follows it up with something totally ridiculous and childish. That's where she becomes ugly.

I agree with Bianca that there are going to be some stressful situations that Heather may not be able to handle. Hell, she can't even handle a little criticism without having a meltdown and then giving that guy the look of death at evaluations. That's not gonna fly in the real world, and people aren't gonna put up with that crap. She really did mess up on the runway during that muse challenge and she even knew it.

Thanks Adaya. I agree with everything you wrote but I am kind of surprised they sent Lisa home! I agree, Bianca is on my last nerve. She is from my hometown so I really wanted to like her but I can't stand mean girls. I know it's the way they edit it but she seems like a supreme bee-atch!
