I'd like to burn some mix CD's for an upcoming party, and I'd like to stick to 60s & 70s songs. So please share some ideas here!

Anything Beatles is usually good, as well as Rolling Stones. If you're looking at 70's, look at the Eagles and Chicago. Also, there was that little period of music that some like to forget.....but its great dance music...DISCO was a big part of the 70's.
I like it all, from oldie's to the new music (everything except Rap). I love the Mama's and Papa's, Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkle, Jefferson Airplane (now Starship, I think) some of the Doors music is also great! Off topic, I cannot believe that the music the Doors did was so intense when they were always so darned stoned. The music, the words, if you really listen (and not when stoned), they wrote fantastic music!
From the 70's I love the Carpenters! Yep, I'm a dork. I'm also a "Fanilow". There is so much to choose from, I don't know how you'd begin, but good luck, and have a ball!

And don't forget to throw some Motown in there: the Supremes, Temptations, Four Seasons.
The 60s had such a huge variety of really great music.

Here's a list of 100 greatest Rock 'n Roll Songs of the 60s (http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_songs60s.html) and a list of 500 top Rock 'n Roll Songs of the 70s (http://www.bradboard.com/70s.htm). There are a ton of good ones on both lists. :)

You can't go 70s without Led Zepplin!

I knew you ladies would help me out! These are all great ideas. And HOW could I forget the Carpenters? I can see I'll need to steal some of my dad's CDs. :)
And how scary is it that I own nearly every CD represented on that 70's list that Reenie posted....

I'm a big fan of the Eagles, Rod Stewart (pre mullet :p), Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, ABBA, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zepplin, David Bowie and Queen.
Some other ideas: The Big Chill Soundtrack has good mix of Motown, the Virgin Suicides soundtrack has groovy 70s mood music and the Dazed and Confused soundtrack (1 and 2) has the rock staples.
