My indoor only cat is just covered in fleas, and I just noticed (I know, I'm an idiot). Also, my DH, DS and I have several bites, so I know our house is infested. I'm getting Advantage for my cat, but what can I do about our condo? We have guests coming in two days, and I'm freaked out. I'm washing all our sheets in water and bleach, but what else can I do? Please help!!!

I've seen those "bombs" you can put off in your house at Target with the pet supplies. I'd check into those.

Hartz sells a spray that you can use on cloth surfaces. It takes quite some time to dry, so when I had fleas in my house I'd spray it all over the couch & chairs & carpet in the room where they were right before going to bed. It seemed to work for me. Good luck!

I would get the flea bombs (make sure to take your son and go away for a few hours) and if you see any fleas left that maybe are concentrated in one area (our dog loved to sleep under my bed so my room had all the fleas one time, we did a little trick my step-grandmother told us about and it worked) we shined a flashlight into a bowl of soapy water and the fleas jumped in and died, worked terrific and got rid of all the fleas.

Yep- f;ea bomb it and use Seargents Gold Spray on teh furniture. Then vacuum like crazy (removes eggs so prevents hatching). Throw teh vacuum bag OUT.

Oh gosh, thank you guys! I'll be going to Target later today.
I have a bagless vaccum, which of course I can empty, but do I need to do anything else to it? Ugh, I feel so yucky, and my poor kitty :(.

You'll have to do a few cycles of flea bombs. The first kills the existing fleas, but then you'll have a hatching and you'll have to do it again. Probably a bomb, spray, and vacuum combo as described above.
Also, either give your cats a flea bath or take them to a groomer to do this. And a little tip - before you put your cat in the tub, rub a little shampoo around his face. We had to give our cat a flea bath when I was a kid, and we watched all the fleas run to his face when he went in the bath. It was awful!
You have my sympathies, fleas can be tough to get rid of.

My childhood dog had fleas once, and they reproduced like crazy while we were on vacation. We actually had to call exterminators and stay at a hotel (and kennel the dog) overnight.
Hope your situation is easier to handle!

Thank you so much, everyone. The Advantage is amazing, and the dead fleas are just dropping of my poor kitty (eeewww). I've sprayed part of the house and am using a vaccum powder, too. We have no new bites, thankfully, although I did find a flea larva on my mattress. How gross is that! My family staying with us is cool with it, but I'm a little nervous about the guests coming on Sat for my DS's birthday. Eeek, at least it's a pool party and they won't be in the house much!
Thanks again!
