I looked for a thread specifically on this and couldn't find one.

I have letters ready to go to hang in my DD's nursery. Problem is that I can't decide how to hang them.

I think I want to use velcro, as I'm not a big fan of the ribbon. Has anyone else done this? What kind of velcro did you use, and how much did you need for each letter? (I am hanging 8" letters if that makes a difference.)

If you used ribbon or something else, tell me about that too, because I haven't totally made up my mind.

Thanks!

We just hung them with nails like you hang picture frames...no ribbons.

I know a lot of the stores (PBK, etc) use velcro but I don't have any first hand experience with it.

Did your letters have nail holes? Mine are solid, so I don't think I could go that route.

I used velcro. I went to Hobby Lobby and talked to the woman in the fabric dept - she suggested a certain velcro that is super heavy duty. I used 2 pieces on each letter - maybe 2-3 inches for each so 6 inches total per letter(like for the C I put a piece on the top and botton, for the A I put a piece on both sides.) They have been up for over 2 years now and I have never had one fall - I do occasionally push them to make sure that they are secure.

We used hooks and eyes. The eyes screwed into the back of the letters, and we put the hooks on the wall. The letters were not flush with the wall, but we liked the end result.

We used the 3M double stick squares. I think they have different hold ratings. That stuff can hold like no other. It's super easy to use, but you only have one try to get it straight!

We put those metal things like you find on the back of picture frames on them (they kind of have jagged edges) and hung them on nails.

Thanks, guys. We ended up using velcro and it is working wonderfully. The best part was that DH hung up one of the letters crooked, but since it was done with velcro, I just pulled it off, straightened it up, and stuck it back on the wall. Easy as cake!

bump!

I just made Daniel's wall letters and want to hang them w/o ribbon. Anyone know how hard it is to get the velcro or 3M squares off the wall when you're done w/ the letters? We'll be selling this house in a couple years....

I think I found the perfect solution when I went to look up those 3M squares:
