Do you have a favorite episode of The Simpsons? Which one?

Some friends and I were talking about this recently and it was really interesting which episodes were mentioned as favorites.

My favorite is the one where the Simpsons get the backyard pool one summer, but then Bart breaks his leg, spends his days upstairs looking through a telescope and becomes convinced that Flanders has murdered his wife. It's a great reinterpretation of "Rear Window." And then at the very end Ralph Wiggum stands in the wrecked pool singing "Summer Wind." Love it.

My friend's favorite is the one where Frank Grimes starts working at the power plant and becomes obsessed with proving that Homer is an idiot. Everyone thinks Grimes is crazy, instead.

Another friend loves the one where Michaelangelo's 'David' comes to Springfield and everyone protests it as obscenity. Finally, Marge has to stand up for it as art.

Fun thread!

I don't think I can pick a favorite episdoe. I just love the Simpsons! :) I do like the one where Lisa meets the boy that is a "level 3 vegan" or whatever level. :) She adds that she's going to get a compost bin in the back yard.

Also like the one where Marge has her pretzel stand.

I can't believe how long I've been watching the Simpsons!

I love love love the one when they visit New York. The scenes with the World Trade Center are just so poignant now. Plus, the vendor who sells kluvkulash and clam juice ... and Betty Ford: the Musical .... <sigh>

I also love the takeoff on Run Lola Run (I think that was the one with Ling-Wo, the grammar robot), and the Music Man adaptation, the Monorail

Oh, and Behind the Laughter! There are too many ...

Lisa is a Tree Hugger - when Lisa goes to live in the big tree to keep it from being cut down

Cape Feare - when Sideshow Bob comes back to get Bart and the family moves to Terror Lake to live on the houseboat

and The Monorail episode. "I named the big on Bitey." :D

My favs are the ones that are sadly out of syndication - and as I look at an epi guide, from season 8 (http://www.snpp.com/episodeguide/season8.html). The one with Missaaaaah Spakul - aka Mr. Sparkle, where Homer's image is a dish detergent logo - so random and funny... 'You only move twice' and the hot pepper one. Also, Homer 3D - I was a huge, huge math geek at the time and taped it and watched it over and over again. :o

The Grimes episode is one of my favorites. It was on last night!

The Mr. Sparkle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._sparkle) episode is my all-time favorite.

Missionary Impossible (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missionary:_Impossible)
the Ribwich episode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I'm_Spelling_as_Fast_as_I_Can)
The "Pray of Mojo" episode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girly_Edition) ;)

When Homer got really fat and wore a muu-muu. He went to use the phone and the operator came on and said "the fingers you have used to dial are too fat" (my bros and I say that all the time). He got a pointing stick to use instead. Hilarious. I have watched since the beginning.

My all-time favorite epi is The Last Temptation of Homer. The one where Homer falls for his co-worker, Mindy. I love the Mandy song he sings in the bathroom, the scene in the elevator where he thinks unsexy thoughts, and the final scene where Marge joins him in his hotel in Capitol City and he sings: Oh Margie, you came and you brought me a turkey, on my little vacation from work-ey.....

This is 7 years old, but it has a list of Matt Groening's favorite episodes. :)

I love the one where Homer is a mall Santa to get extra Christmas $$ and they get Santa's Little Helper. I think it's the first Christmas episode.

I haven't thought of some of those episodes in a long time and I'm chuckling just remembering them.

Not sure I've even seen Mr. Sparkle! Going to go watch that on YouTube right now. :)

I have a Tshirt with the Mr. Sparkle box on it. ROCK!

That's one of my two favorite episodes. My other favorite is where they go to Japan--there are so many hilarious lines in that one. They watch "Battling Seizure Robots" on TV and all go into convulsions--Homer says, "All That Seizing Made Me Hungry". They go to Americatown restaurant, then Homer loses all their money and they have to go on the Super Happy Family Wish Show to win tickets back to the states. LOVE IT!

ETA: I looked at an episode guide, and that one's tenth season, and I was wrong, the game show was called "Happy Smile Super Challenge Family Wish Show"

I was close though!

I love the Simpsons!

My favorite episode is also "Homer's Enemy" - the one where Frank Grimes comes to work at the Power Plant.

I also love the softball one, where Mr. Burns gets a bunch of pro baseball players to come play for the company softball team. I love when Mr. Burns is listing the players on the team and Smithers tells him they're all dead.

I also love the X-Files one, where Mulder and Scully come to investigate the alien Homer saw. That one was on the other night.

The one where Lisa becomes a vegetarian and meets Paul and Linda McCartney on the roof of the Kwiki Mart (Homer chasing the flying pig exclaiming "it's still good, it's still good!" and Lisa visualizing the lamb pleading "Leeeesa I thought you Looooved me!")

The one there Former President George and Barbara Bush move across the street and FPB and Homer get into a turf war (FPB to Homer, "I'm going to ruin you like a Japaneses Banquet.")

All the Sideshow Bob episodes.

The Lard of the Dance episode where Homer and Bart try to recycle grease. :) I attribute veggie cars (cars that run on used cooking oil) to the Simpsons. ;)

I love the one where the fortune teller looks into Lisa's future and sees her college life, including meeting her future fiancé, Hugh. What makes it so funny is all the futuristic stuff they put in there ("in memory of a real tree," "Rolling Stones Wheelchair Tour 2010"). Hard to believe that 2010 is less than 3 years from now.

In general, my favorites are the ones where they travel to a new place (LOVE the Japan one!) or parody some story or historic event. The Bible ones got a chuckle out of me.

Milhouse (aka Moses): "FLUSH!!!!" lol

There was one episode that showed Japanese Friends where Japanese Chandler said "Do you like my new shirt? It says "Reggae Hair style - Rock n' Roll." Could I be more Japanese?" I think it was the episode that Bart and Lisa were both in the 3rd grade.

Hilarious.

"Mr. Plow, that's my name. That name again is Mr. Plow" Love the epi when Homer has a snowplow service and then Barney starts a Plow King service.

That was a funny episode. :)

BTW, DH went to the premiere for the Simpsons movie on Tuesday and he was surprised that he liked it. We're both Simpsons fans, but were skeptical of the movie, so that gives me hope.

My favorite is where Homer (and everyone else) joins the Movementarian cult. Nananananananana LEADER!

I love love love the one when they visit New York. The scenes with the World Trade Center are just so poignant now. Plus, the vendor who sells kluvkulash and clam juice ... and Betty Ford: the Musical .... <sigh>
excellent choice--my undergrad alma mater got a shout out in that one.

I like the voting scandal episode where Lisa and Bart end up in the graveyard. She says, "Bart, do you know what this means?" And Bart says, "The dead have risen and they're voting Republican?"

I also love Otto's Middlebury shirt.

Oh, and the one when Lisa drinks the water at Duff World, is tripping and runs upstairs. "Can't talk, coming down. Can't talk, coming down."

It's actually Martin, not Ralph. :p

I'll take pretty much any episode from seasons 4 or 5, although my favorite has always been the Australia episode, for some reason. I love how a "toothpaste race" leads to an international incident.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I hate the Frank Grimes episode. I feel like it takes the unspoken rule that Homer is ultimately a decent guy and turns it on its head just to get a laugh.

My favorite is the one where Homer duels the Colonel and then flees to the country and starts growing (with the help of Springfield's favorite nuclear power plant) Tomacco -- tomatoes crossed with tobacco. Disgusting but strangely addictive!

Also a favorite of mine! I love the part where he hits the tab button on the home computer setup the plant gave him and waits for his Tab soda! "Hey where's my Tab?"

Also love the Sideshow Bob episodes!

Who doesn't love the Mr. Plow episode? If I had to pick a favorite, that would probably be at the top of the list.

I don't think there's an episode of The Simpsons I don't like. DH and I are huge Simpsons fans. Had them on our wedding cake, our guest room is devoted to all of our peraphernalia, our dog is named Rory B. Bellows- Krusty's secret identity after faking his death. Now that's a fan ;)
