Lately, everytime I order something from Amazon, it takes *forever* to ship. It will say in stock and shipping soon on the order for days before it actually ships. I ordered from Amazon 4 days before I placed an order from buy.com and I received the Buy.com order 2 days before my Amazon order. Is it just my orders or is Amazon just really slow?

It's not just you! I've been noticing the same thing. Things used to ship from there really quickly, but I ordered something over a week ago and they just shipped it two days ago. My last order from them took a long time to ship as well.

I ended up joining their Prime program - with "free" two day shipping. This stuff ships on time every time...when I do their free shipping or standard shipping it feels like it takes FOREVER - to the point where I wasn't going to order from them again. You are definitely not alone.

Are your items sold directly by Amazon or by a third-party? My shipments seem to arrive later when they're not shipped directly from Amazon.

Funny you say this, because I recently placed an order with Amazon for something from a third party, and I got the 3rd party item first. I think that it really depends on what is ordered. I placed 3 orders with Amazon in the past month and one seemed to take forever to get here, but the others were pretty fast.

I can't really complain about shipping times because when I'm not paying for shipping that just doesn't seem right :)

I just ordered a DVD and it says it shipped just 2-3 day later.

I think the free super saver shipping is last on the priority of preparing the item for shipment. They do only promise something like a 2 week turnaround time.

I do use the super saver shipping when I can. It used to be so fast though, and it's not any more. I also ordered two items from a 3rd party and both have come already. Still waiting for my Amazon items!

Did anyone else join Prime? Is it worth it?

I have also noticed that the free "super saver" shipping seems to be the slow, 1 wk minimum to package shipping. Guess we can't complain much since it's free, but it definitely seems to be the lowest of the low on the priority list. I don't order enough from Amazon to justify the Prime subscription, but the shipping is definitely something to keep in mind around Christmas time!

i have amazon prime and my orders come VERY fast, and always on time (2 day shipping). I can upgrade to overnite for only $3.99 per item.

Yep, I've had Prime for two years and it's fabulous. Overall, I've gotten much better and faster service from amazon since becoming a Prime customer.

I *LOVE* Amazon Prime. And it's funny, I order a lot more from there than I used to because of Prime--they have almost everything, and with free shipping, it's sometimes a lot quicker than trying to run to the mall or wherever. It ALWAYS shows up two days later, sometimes quicker--a couple weeks ago I ordered a book on Friday and it showed up on Monday morning. Totally worth the $$ for me. Also, you can share it with a family member (or two, I think), so I split the yearly cost with my sister and we both reap the benefits. Also (pitching for Katy here), I have the link in my Favorites menu for Amazon set to the reference link for CC, so when I'm searching for and buying something on there, CC automatically gets the kickback.

Anyway, yeah, Prime is totally worth it. Last Christmas especially--I ordered a couple last minute things on the 20th and they were wrapped and under the tree on Xmas Eve.

This is interesting, because I just ordered two items from Amazon: a box of Pampers (size 7) and a book. Both with the super saver shipping. The diapers shipped out the next day and were delivered the day after that. The book wasn't shipped until 5 days after that, from a different location, but also only took 2 days to be delivered.

So I wasn't disappointed with Amazon's shipping time.

I've actually found the 'super saver shipping' to be really fast recently. I expect it to take at least a week to ship because I assume the point is that they put those orders last in the queue. But the last few things I've ordered using it have shipped the next day. I even got one item the day after I ordered it - I still haven't figured out how it arrived so quickly.

I've had Amazon Prime for a little over a year and it has definitely been worth it to me. I also did the xmas ordering on the 20th and got the order on the 23rd, iirc, free shipping, no crowded shopping malls. :)

I signed up for Prime when they ran a special in February with $50 free groceries - I didn't think I would want to renew and pay full price, but now I definitely would. I've been very happy with it!

Guess I'm not the only one with Amazon shipping issues. I understand that supersaver shipping will take the longest to ship, but should it really take a week to prepare to ship? I don't know, it just seems a bit unreasonable to me. I've ordered from buy.com, with free shipping, and I always get it within 3 days.

I contaced Amazon about my last order since it had been several days and it still hadn't shipped. It took 7 business days to receive my order once they gave me free standard shipping. I'm just impatient, I guess. ;)

That's what bothers me--not the actual shipping time, but the lag between getting the order and taking care of it. I get that the shipping is free, but it used to be fast and free--now it's just free.

It bugs me that basically I have to pay more money (get Amazon Prime) to get the same fast service I used to get for free.

I don't know about all of Amazon's merchandise, but I do know that quite a bit of things (namely furniture) are shipped third party. I work for a company that sells furniture & home accessories to different websites and catalogs. I only do wok with the internet companies and I'd say about 30% of my customers have a store on Amazon. The order will be submitted to Amazon, then goes to the individual store, then will come to my company. It's entered and then shipped. This is why when several things are ordered they arrive at different times.

I'm thinking about breaking down and getting a membership in Amazon Prime. Is everyone still a fan?

Just wanted to report that I ordered Christmas gifts from Amazon last Thursday. I used the free Super Saver shipping option. Both the package I had sent to me and a package I had sent to my brother arrived on Saturday. TWO DAYS! Needless to say, I was very pleased.

Early last month I ordered some stuff and it look like almost 2 weeks - it was really slow. I've ordered a bunch of stuff in the past 2-3 weeks and I have had my packages within a week.

I have found in the past that Amazon seems to be slower than other sites - but I don't think I've ordered from them in the past 6 months to a year. I always leave myself plenty of time when ordering online from anywhere, just to be safe!

Make sure you have the current link (http://astore.amazon.com/constantchatter-20) to get directly into our storefront (we're working on updating the storefront in the top bar). Every little bit helps!!

Wow, Rosebud, I'm jealous! I ordered from Amazon today and it isn't scheduled to ship until the 12th--5 days! I wouldn't have even ordered from them, but it was such a great deal. Guess I can wait.

I've had things come really fast if it's directly from Amazon, but much longer ship times if it's from one of their stores. I remember last Christmas I had to check to make sure the things I wanted to purchase were coming from Amazon itself or else I wouldn't have them by Chirstmas. Perhaps I shouldn't have put it off...

I just ordered a present on Amazon yesterday, Super Saver shipping ... it arrived today! What!?!? That is crazy, I only ordered it after lunch yesterday. It was 1 of 2 (shipping seperately) and the other shipped today. Craziness. I was considering looking in store and this came faster than I would have had time to go to a store!

I ordered another item earlier this week and it also shipped yesterday.

I'm extremely happy with their shipping so far this year!

Apparently DH ordered something for me yesterday and it came today as well!

I wonder too if people getting superfast shipping live near their distribution warehouses or whatever? Kind of like Netflix--if you live in a particular area, it's faster?

Katy: Does that CC Amazon link allow us to buy non-book items as well?

That could be. I just wonder why it takes so dang long for them to get the thing ready to ship.
