:)NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I refuse to believe my baby is a toddler now!! This is going by way too quickly. ;)
Shaq: Gorgeous pictures.... what a beautiful family! That sand looks so wonderful............... gosh I so want a vacation.
Mystikal: Adorable pics. Love the cake :)
A big congratulations to the mommy's expecting #2!!
Not much new going on here, other than my son is *apparently* a toddler now.... hee hee. Owen took his first steps today...... he has been cruising like crazy for a few months and climbs on everything, but no walking. His balance is great too..... he will sit, then stand up in the middle of the room, not holding on to anything but he won't go anywhere. Well, that changed today.... he took a few steps on three different occasions! My DH saw it first and called me to come and see and Owen did it again. I cried!!! It was the strangest feeling..... I was overjoyed, proud, but sad too..... ist that wrong? It just really made me realize that he isn't a baby anymore. We shall see how long until he is actually walking......my bet is within a week or so.
Hope everyone is well :)

Forgot to add something...................
We were running a quick errand to Home Depot today. Dh carried Owen out to the car and put him in his car seat and I followed behind. Just as he did that, a neighbor came up asking if we'd seen her dog. Anyway, we get in the car and head for Home Depot.
After 5 mins or so, DH says, "He's out of his seat!!!" I jerk my head around and see Owen standing in the middle of the back seat!! :eek: I screamed and jumped in the back and put him in his car seat as quick as I could!! It was so scary.
Apparently, DH forgot to buckle him in after he was done talking to the neighbor!! An easy mistake but sooooooooooo scary. It was the strangest thing seeing Owen standing in the middle of the back seat. Yikes!! Guess we won't be getting our "Parent's of the Year" award.

It's absolute craziness, isn't it? :eek:
StevieM yikes! That's so scary. I can't imagine seeing DD standing in the back seat while I was driving. DH forgot to strap DD in once, but it was when she was practically newborn so she wasn't going anywhere, anyway.
Just wanted to say thanks for the new digs, Amanda! :)

WOW! I am the mother of a TODDLER :eek: I knew it was coming but man not that fast.
Thank you Amanda for the new thread, you rock!
Shaq~ I too am jealous of your beach vacay. Im going out of town this weekend with my BF but its not to a beach. At least Ill get some R&R.
Steviem~OMG! I would have been freaked too, but at least your DH saw it and said something. Peyton's strap wasn't tightened not too long ago(thanks dh:rolleyes: ) and he wiggled sideways and got stuck and started screaming. I was on the highway and had to get off (in rush hour) and fix it. Close calls add grey hairs right? LOL
Update~ Peyton is doing good with some things and not with others. STTN is still touch and go. Last night he slept from 8-6 (woohoo), but the night before woke up every hour screaming all.night.long. ::sigh::
He is talking more and his favorite words are.. Ba ba, eye, no and Nana.
He has mastered walking in his shoes and sandals which is nice because now he will go in the grass, before he would scream in the grass barefoot. I guess he got his sensitive feet from me.
Peyton ate ravioli with a baby FORK at daycare the other day! I was so excited and she got it on video and if we can get it online soon I will post it.
CONGRATS to all the preggo mommies! We are thinking of TTC around this time next year. We want to space them 3 years apart if we can help it. Then again Peyton took 15 months to conceive so who knows.
Have a great monday ladies!

Hi guys! I had no idea a Toddler thread was started, but now I'm subscribed! Brady has figured out how to stand up on his own, instead of crawling to something to stand before he walks, so now we have a full-fledged toddler to run around after. We took him to the mall the other day to play in the playground they have there (it's a big pit of plastic/rubber breakfast foods), and Brady went nuts! He wanted nothing to do with the quieter waffle surrounded by infants, and instead went right over to where all the big kids were running around and jumping on and off stuff. Definitely not afraid of all of that! Brady was practically running after the other kids....too funny!

Toddlers! Nooooooo.
Everything is going well here. Declan is amazing everyone with his hand/eye coordination. He loves nothing better than playing catch. He can catch the ball when tossed from 6 feet away, he bounces the ball of the floor and catches it, and tosses it up in the air and catches it. It is actually a little freaky!
He is also getting better and better (and faster) at walking. And his sense of humor is really shining lately. He loves to make people laugh, which he usually does by dancing silly or making funny faces. We had a rough Friday night through Saturday morning. Declan had a 102-103 fever, was clingy and whiney, but still had an appetite. Well, at one point late Saturday he was crying and I saw the top of his molar sticking out of his very sore looking gum. :eek: We have tooth number nine.
Shaq: Love the pictures from beach. You guys make a beautiful family. We are off to the beach in August and will definitely be stealing your photo ideas! :)

amurphy you HAVE to get a video of that. It sounds CRAZY!
gina I don't think I'd be ready for my DD to play with the "big kids". I'm too much of a scaredy cat!
DD learned how to play peekaboo last night. Here are a couple pictures just because I think it's SO CUTE!!! lol.

Updates:
Walking: I guess running is more like it! He walks and runs everywhere! It's so cute to see him run, especially when we are "chasing" him! :p
Talking: Very few real words, but he definitely has his own words! He definitely says "uh-oh", "cheese", "kitty" and "dada", though dada hasn't been in reference to DH yet. Still waiting for Mama!
STTN: A few days ago was hell because Lucas has a sinus infection and wouldn't sleep, but that was only a couple of nights and now he is back to STTN, usually 8:30pm-7:30am.
Stevie, I did that one day with DS and didn't realize it until I was on the interstate. Luckily he didn't get out of the seat but he was sitting forward, which made me realize that I'd forgotten to buckle him in! :eek: :o We made it to our destination safely (a block from my realization) and I've never done it again!

Sorry I have been MIA: Between work and vacations I just do not have the time. DD is definately a peice of work... she has her great moments and bad moments.. she loves to chase DH and I around the house.. and gives a beer belly laugh... so funny. But then when she does not get her way she throws the biggest fit.
I am also finding that she is having explosions out of her diaper again.. is anyone else having this problem. I gave a bigger size and everything.
Sorry if this was already touched upon BUT
BOTTLE: Everyone is asking me "do you still give her a bottle" and I do at night... is that so bad? She uses the sippy during the day and bottle at night. Am I doing something wrong? I guess I did not think it was a big deal....
Shaq: Love the photos!

BOTTLE: Everyone is asking me "do you still give her a bottle" and I do at night... is that so bad? She uses the sippy during the day and bottle at night. Am I doing something wrong? I guess I did not think it was a big deal....
Ryan~ Im not sure if you mean a bottle before bedtime or in the middle of the night. We still give peyton a bottle of milk before bed and have just recently stopped giving him a bottle overnight. That was hard but we did it by switching to water and now he doesnt want to get up to eat for only water. It took about a week.
I dont think at this age that if Emily is using a sippy all day and gets one bottle before bed that its a big deal. She is transitioning great and before you know it she will have milk or whatever with dinner and not want that bottle.
Question!!
Peyton had a fever last night of 102.5 and slept terribly. He had it this morning too. He has NO other symptoms. No cough, no runny nose, no ear pulling, no drooling or red gums. im stumped and so is the sitter. When I called the Dr they said it could be his body could be fighting a virus that isnt showing any other symptoms and there is nothing we can do but keep him cool with tylenol or mortin and help him get lots of sleep. :rolleyes::confused:
Anyone else dealt with this and what did you do?
Have a great day ladies!

Bottle: Our doctor mentioned that we should start weaning her from the bottle. She was referring to the bottle itself, not the fact that we give milk before bed time. We decided to complete the transition to whole milk before trying to get rid of the bottle. We are almost to an all milk bottle. We are now starting to offer the sippy cup before the morning bottle. It will probably take a while. She's been drinking water from a sippy cup for a while but still refuses milk from it.
Fever: DD had the same thing the weekend before her birthday. It was horrible. We took her to the doctor several times. We were worried that she may have something we couldn't see. There were no symptoms besides a very cranky and hot baby. It lasted 4 nights. Tylenol was the only thing to control the fever. As long as it's not above 104, the doc can't do anything.
She's been cranky these past few days. Borderline feverish but mostly ok. Just very clingy :rolleyes: strictly to mommy... :D
Our babies are certainly growing fast! I have to admit that this toddler period is a lot of fun. Annabelle is so interactive and enjoyable. She is always learning new things. She now gives kisses. She loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and her Dora ("dowa") books, is interacting more with our cat (who knew they'd ever get along!). We can't walk by the park without her insisting she go play. When I ask to put her shoes, she goes to get them and sits for me to put them on. She helps getting dressed and undressed by lifting each foot or arm. She insists on carrying her lunch bag and will walk to the car and try to open the door or climb in her seat. She is getting more practice feeding herself with a spoon and frequently she insists on doing it herself.
I am worried that she will soon be able to reach door handles. We have the lever kind throughout the house... :eek:
Thanks Girls about the bottle response. Emily gets a sippy cup of milk in the am and then water all day. And then at night I just give her a bottle right before bed. But I guess I can try to supliment that with a sippy. We did move off the AM bottle/nap.. now it is sippy/nap.
As for fever: we went thru this last week. And it was really hot here in NY and I thought the AC was not getting into her room. She woke up around 2ish and she was screaming.. I have never felt he so hot. She had a 102 fever. Her feet were hot and she was on fire. I stripped her down to her diaper and brought her into our room. Then after a while (she will not sleep with us..likes her own space) I put her back into her crib. Kept track of her the next few days and she was fine. Her 2 molars did pop thru a few days later. Not sure if the 2 go together but... Even when she had the chicken pox she did not have a fever that high.. so I have no idea what the heck it was about.
IZZY: isn't funny how they are growing up. DD was singing the other day.. (no idea what the heck she was saying) but her words flowed togetehr like a song. It was hysterical.
Eating: Does anyone else feel like they have an animal in the house. Between DD and our lab they both stand by me if I am eating and beg. It is hyterical. I could be on the couch have an ice cream and the two of them would just stare at me.
Shaq: Signing: Forgot to tell you DD is doing much better with it. Her vocab is not alot but she is getting there. But when she is thirsty she say "bobble" instead of bottle.

Ryan: I too, do not think it is a big deal that your DD is drinking a bottle at night. DS gets 2 bottles of milk per day (one first thing in the morning, and another before bedtime.) He drinks from his sippy the rest of the day.
Speaking of Milk: I am still mixing 50% formula with milk for his bottles, although he has had 100% milk bottels before. I think I like the idea of the extra iron, etc., in the formula, which is why I still give it to him. After this can, we will go to all milk. I worry that he isn't getting enough milk.... somedays he will only drink 10oz or so..... our doctor said as long as he is getting plenty of fluids (water, etc.) which he does, then, I shouldn't worry.
Talking: I am so impressed that so many of your little ones are talking! On the other hand, it kind of makes we worried that Owen doesn't say a word :( I mean, he is extremely vocal, making tons of sounds and "sentences," however, I do not recognize any "words." He understands me, which is a good sign.... I can ask him where things are and he gets them, but still no words. We have an appt with our Ped tomorrow for his 12 month shots... poor guy. I delayed them 2 weeks ago when we went for his 12 month WBV because he had an ear infection. I will ask the doc about the talking thing..... wonder what he'll say.
Hope you all have a great day :)

steviem What I would describe as talking from DD is not necessarily intelligible words. She babbles like she is having a conversation sometimes. That would be the talking yet I don't understand a single thing. She does try to copy some words that somewhat sound like the real thing but only because we've just repeated it twenty times.
Words she has used (in her pronunciation!):
bybye,
hi,
dowa (for dora),
baa (for ball),
up (for stairs, to be picked up, etc),
moe (for more), also encow (more in french),
taties (smarties our cat),
tis (for this),
ninite (I think)
This morning she giggled when I was barking when she was pointing at the dog in the book. So cute! When we went to the zoo last week, we practiced roaring like a lion and she would roar so loud it was hilarious. We roared in the car all the way to the zoo.
shaq Your beach pictures are superbe! Makes me miss "LA". ;) I always remember the movie Contact when she says "Pensacola" from the drawing of the beach.
We're not planing a summer vacation but we are making fun outings. This is from our trip to the zoo.
DD and DH are looking at Giraffes.

Words wow. So many of our "babies" are talking already! My DD has only said mama and dada. I try to get her to say other things, but she will always just say "nnnaaa". No matter what it is. She does understand me, though. I guess that's something.
Bottle DD still gets a bottle at night and for her nap, I guess we'll have to break her of that habit at some point, but right now DH works third shift and our house is so small he can hear everything no matter where we are. I don't feel like fighting with her to go to sleep without a bottle and waking him up. He gets so little sleep as it is. My mom said I got a bottle at night until well after my first birthday and I turned out fine, so I'm not too worried.

Fever: As I mentioned earlier this week, DS had a 102/103 temp. this weekend, which I attributed to the molar that poked through on Saturday night. But then he woke up in the middle of the night on Tuesday with an awful cough and my daycare provider called me yesterday and suggested I take DS to the doctor b/c his cough was pretty awful sounding, he wouldn't eat, and wanted to sleep, sleep, sleep. Turns out it is just mild croup and the ped suggested I treat it conservatively with over-the-counter meds. She gave me a prescription to fill if he doesn't improve. He slept from 4-6:30 p.m. yesterday, played for a couple hours and snacked, and then slept from 8:30 to 5 a.m. He seems much better today. As soon as I walked into his room this morning, he signed, "eat" so that's a good sign.
Words: DS has a limited vocabulary. His favorite word is "BALLLL." Everything is a ball. The lightbulb is a ball. The wheel on his plastic car is a ball. Plums are balls. He also says Mom, Dada, cat, dog. And maybe a few others here-and-there. He can also tell us what noise the dog makes.
Bottle: He takes one bottle of milk a day but I'm going to start cutting that out. He does fine with his sippy cups. My bigger struggle is cutting out the morning, before nap, and bedtime nursing session. He does fine without nursing when I'm not home. Any tips for weaning? I'd love help with this one . . .

mystikal - my DS does the same as your DC with words...he knows Mama and Dada, and he used to know Boo, although lately everything is this Nnnnaaannna. I think he uses it to say "need", but I'm not sure.
Brady used to know how cow's sound (Boo!) and roosters (a very loud and excited, Howard Dean-eque "eeaaahhhh"), but hasn't done that in a while. He doesn't really sign much either. He's got "all done" down pretty well, unfortunately (he's started doing it in the stroller and car seat...uh oh), and sometimes does more (which is more a hand clap). But other than that, he has no interest in communicating. He understands most of what we say though.
Bottles - Um. Yeah. We're a total bottle family still. DS still gets 3 of them a day. He nurses in the am and then gets some milk in his sippy (but doesn't drink much) with breakfast, than a 5oz bottle at 10, another at 1:30 before his nap, and then a big 8oz one right before bed. The only time he really gets and drinks alot of milk from his sippy is with dinner. Since Brady was so small at his last ped visit, our ped recommended he get cow's milk from a bottle for a while so that we make sure he gets enough. I'm wondering though, should I try to merge that 10 and 1:30 bottle down to one 8oz one or so BEFORE transitioning to a sippy? Or should we try to get him on a sippy first?
How many naps are your toddlers getting now?
I have to figure this out, because there's a possibiilty that I may need to send Brady to day care outside the home in the next month or so. He still gets a morning and afternoon nap, but would only get one afternoon one at day care. I'm wondering if I should try to transition to one in the next few weeks, or if I should hold off on putting him in day care and just have someone come to the house until he's older? He goes down pretty easy for both and will take about a 1-1.5 hour nap in the am and a 2-3 hr one in the afternoon, so it seems like he still needs one. I'm sooooo confused and at a loss as to what to do! DH seems excited to get down to one, because it means more freedom, but I'm nervous that we'd be forcing it too early. Any thoughts?

naps Gina, for us it's definitely still two naps per day. Annabelle DEFINITELY still needs the two. When she is sick or seems sick, like this weekend, she got as many as 3 or 4 naps per day. Every child is different and I say go with your gut. You know best if Brady is ready for 1 nap/day.
bottles We're still on 2-3 bottles per day. Our transition is going pretty slow and I'm not worried. I know that we'll eventually make it to sippy cups only.

Naps DD has been down to one nap a day for the last couple months. She gets up around 6:30 and then naps from around 11-1 then goes down around 7:30.
Okay, she's fussing for mama. Gonna go.
.:0zazsabg <-- this is a message from her. lol.

Naps: Declan needs two naps a day. My daycare provider tries to transition the toddlers to only an afternoon nap, but makes exceptions for toddlers who clearly prefer two naps. Although, if DS is not rubbing his eyes etc., she tries to get him to skip him morning nap. On the other hand, when I'm home with him two days during the work week, I always put him down for his morning and afternoon name. I need the time to get work done! So, like Brady, Declan take an 1-1.5 hour nap in the am and a 1.5-2 hr one in the afternoon.

Mystikal such cute peek-a-boo pics!
Izzy Annabelle is such a cutie. she's perfect mix of you and DH. I remember you once saying that people commented that she only looked like your DH but she does favour you a lot too:)
Ryan yay on the signing. Javan just does more, all done and milk. we keep trying to get him to do others. he understands them but wont do it. i guess when he's ready. do you have the signing time dvd? As for the bottles I think you're fine. i've seen some kids much older with bottles still. btw you never did say how her party went (or maybe i missed that post :confused: )
Words his definites are bah-by (bye bye), mama (he said mummy yday), dada and daddy, hello (he says it to DH all the time but to me i just get 'lo') and he's said babe and baby. it seems like a few but he has variations of other words like ball and car. he definitely converses a whole lot with us and will stop to give us a chance to speak, he listens to us and then will talk back. it's fun listening to him.
naps most days its 2 naps - If he wakes up at 7am then he does a 1-1.5hr in the morning at around 10:30am and then about an hr in the afternoon around 3-4pm. If he wakes up around 9am we only let him nap once for the day and he will go down around 2:30pm and sleep for 2hrs or more. I'm not going to be strict about making him go down to one nap a day because without his nap he's a bear! he gets so whiny and its miserable for all of us.
transition to milk so i think i mentioned that we are doing rice milk. its been kinda tough to transition but we are making strides. now when he wakes from his nap we give him half ebm and half rice milk in a sippy and he will take it. we keep trying to offer it to him until he drinks more. i do worry that he isnt getting enough so we try to make up for it with the yogurt and cheese and other dairy stuff.
just wanted to post this funny pic:
he was 10mths here and so afraid of the vacuum. when we would turn it on he'd go in a corner and just watch and if it came close to him he would scream bloody murder. now when we turn it on he chases the vacuum around and tries to 'get' it! he screams at the vacuum. its so funny to watch.
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q289/veryll/435334-100_4005.jpg?t=1184938043
and he's fascinated with my shades - i cant keep them on me at all cos he wants them!
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q289/veryll/681180-100_6023.jpg?t=1184938195
and yes he is standing without support - he can do it if he wants to! i guess he just needs to build more confidence in that area.

I'm not getting updates and wondering if we're that quiet? Well we are not, we're just here now :rolleyes:
Yes we are parents to toddlers. I'm now a parent to 2 toddlers. Or what is a 3 year old called, a child? Guess I'll have to find out soon.
We, actually me has been SUPER swamped. I'm hosting pool play dates at least 3 times a week, working when the boys are napping and then either more pool or work in the evenings. I haven't even sent out the boys pix that I had taken in early June :( I'm actually in between work right now and that is why I'm here.
Bottles: Troi gets one first thing in the morning, sometimes if he needs them for naps, maybe before he goes to bed and as a last resort to sooth him. Otherwise it's sippy's all the way.
Words: No words as of yet. However he does mimic whatever Nikolas does. Niko will growl when he plays with his dinosaurs, and Troi will. I can swear though a few times he's answered my questions. I'll ask him if he wants milk and I swear he says yeah.
Naps: This is the transition phase for us. We either get one of these from him: 30 min in the am, 2 hours in the afternoon, no am, 3 to 4 hours in the afternoon or 2 hours in the am, none in the afternoon. No matter which happens though, he goes down around 8 and wakes between 5:45 and 6:15. That is when that morning bottle comes in. Warm milk, he 80% dozes back off for a while.
Troi has started something new. He will take something he is not supposed to have so we can tell him to put it back. He'll put it back and he knows that we're going to clap for him, so now he'll put it back and start clapping, smiling and getting so excited. It's cute except for when he's grabbing stuff he's not supposed to. HE CLIMBS ONTO EVERY SINGLE THING WE HAVE. He has no fear. He climbed on the couch the other day, fell off, laughed and got right back on it. He head dives at Nikolas all the time. No fear.
Well I have to run, time to get back to work. Take care and stay well all.

Bottles: DD gets two a day. (Usually.) She'll have one for her morning nap, and one before bed. Otherwise it's usually a sippy of juice and then water the rest of the day. Sometimes if she wakes in the middle of the night and refuses to go to sleep she'll get another 4oz bottle to soothe her. The girl is STUBBORN just like her mama. One night I fought with her for 1.5 hours. She screamed nonstop and when she would fall asleep as soon as I laid her down she'd wake up screaming again so I had to give in and give her the bottle. I'm trying not to worry about it too much.
Words She learned to say "me" this past week and now says it over and over and over again. Especially when I'm driving home at night after picking her up. I'll laugh so hard my stomach hurts. It's the funniest thing. :D
Injuries DD got her first major booboo tonight. I was standing her up and trying to get her to walk to me. She'll stand for a second and then grin and sit down. Well, I kept standing her up and she started laughing and lost her balance. She fell and when she put out her hands to stop herself she put one hand on the box of wipes and it tipped. She landed on the corner with her eye. It happend around 4:30 and when I took her up to bed at 7:00 there was still a red mark on the outside of her eye, and another underneath. I feel horrible, but if she made it nearly 13 months with no other injuries to speak of we're doing good, right?

Wow Pink! CONGRATS! H&H 9 mo's to you
~~~~~~
I went away on a girls weekend with my best friend(her 2nd DC is due in sept) and DH kept Peyton for the first time. He did a great job! I was kinda nervous since it was the first time but all was well. When I got home Peyton had a surprise for me. He had started saying a few new things and one of them melted my heart forever. I got home and ran in (literally) to see him and he screamed "MAMA" and ran over to me. When i picked him up he kissed me by pulling my face to his with both hands(so darn cute) then looked at me and said "Low loo mama"....which is "Love you mama" I was like AWWWWWWWW!:D:D:D My little man told me he loved me. My heart was going to swell out of my chest as you can imagine. Then he looked at the tv and said Dog dog. I was like :eek::eek: . So it was a full weekend. LOL
Have a great monday all!
Dan's girl: What a nice welcome home! So cute!
Pink: CONGRATULATIONS
Mystical: I think 13 months without a major injury is pretty dang good. Hope that little booboo heals quickly.
Niko&Troi: DS will also do anything for the applause. Just this morning, he took one of the candles out of the fireplace and brought it to me. I thanked him and then told him to put it back. Back he went, put the candle back on the fireplace candleholder, and started clapping. What a ham!
DS is making up for his couple weeks of iffy sleep. He has been going down without nursing, whimpers for maybe 60 seconds, and then sleeps for two hours for each nap. This morning we heard him chatting in his crib at 7:15 and DH and I both went to see what he was up to. When we got to the doorway he got on his feet, started laughing, and held up his arms for us to pick him up. No crying. And the best part, I didn't nurse him. This is the first morning in more than 13 months that I haven't nursed him. I just put him down for his nap and when I first put him in his crib he signed "drink." So I got him a cup of water, he had a few sips, and I put him down again. He fell asleep without nursing. I'm so excited! :D
Hi Ladies- Joining the new thread
amurphy: Congrats on how well the weaning is going. I'm jealous. I really want to wean Ayla, but it's the first thing she wants in the morning and when I get home from work (and half of the night). I just need to bite the bullet and stop giving in during the night.
Pink and kmmommy: Congrats on your BFPs! I'm a little jealous, but not sure if we want to have a third. Of course, since AF has yet to make an appearance I'm pretty sure it would be pretty difficult.
Dan's girl: That first pic is adorable. I love the look. Unfortunately I think you'll be seeing that look during the teenage years a lot;)
Bottles: Ayla started refusing them a few months ago. If only I could get her to refuse the boob too.
It's been a busy summer. Ayla's still sleeping like crap. I think we've tried everything. I'm not sure where to go from here, but I'd really like more than 2 straight hours of sleep. The other night she was up at 12:30, 2:20 and 4:30, then up for the day at 5:45 (not that this is different from any other night). When I walked into the bedroom after getting up for the third time that night, DH rolled over and asked if that was the first time she had woken up all night. I really wanted to throw something heavy at him;)
Ayla's a walking fool and getting into everything. This is my bad mom story for the month. I often would run upstairs to change the laundry and leave the girls downstairs. The easiest path to the stairs is blocked and the first floor is child proofed. There is a way to the stairs, but Ayla had yet to figure it out. Well, the other morning I ran upstairs to throw in a load of laundry (I wasn't folding anything, the laundry was already separated- in short, it took me 90 seconds). I turned around to go back downstairs and Ayla was standing behind me. I almost threw up on the spot thinking what would have happened if she fell down the 15 stairs onto the tile floor. Needless to say the stairs are now blocked. Now it's a pain to send Mia for anything upstairs since she can't get over the gait either.
AF: Anyone not had AF return yet? I am still BFing, but most days it's 2-3 times during the day and then on and off at night. With Mia, AF was back by 6 months, even when I was still BFing quite a bit. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. I have my yearly OB/GYN appt in a few weeks, so I guess we'll see then. At one point we had talked about having a third baby, and we wanted it to be soon, but my cycle put a stop to that. Now we're re-thinking having another baby (Ayla's lack of sleep has put us over the edge:rolleyes:).
BFP's Wow! Congrats! I feel sort of jealous-although I'm not ready to try yet, I'm getting closer and I miss being PG.
dansgirl That is amazing! So cute.
speaking of talking... I'm so amazed at the talking! DS still isn't saying anything with meaning. He does have one word, I guess, sort of. He's got a thing for shoes-he's constantly trying to put them in his mouth, so we're always saying "YUCK." He says, "CK", and it's slowly turning into "UCK." But I think he thinks that it's the word for shoes. When we were on vacation, I heard him wake up in his PNP, grab his shoes from the dresser, and start saying, "UCK...UCK...UCK." He does know what we're saying to him, though. He brushed his hair on command the other day and will give our dog a biscuit when I tell him to. It's SO cool and amazing to see him responding and knowing that he understands.
bottles DS is still getting one before bed and I think I'm going to try and stop it next week. He gets milk in a sippy for meals and water the rest of the day. I would love to not buy any more formula.
naps DS still needs two. I'm big on DS not getting overtired and I think sleep is really important. I don't plan to push him down to one until he does it on his own. He goes down around 9 and around 1, sleeping for usually 1-1.5 hours. He goes to bed for the evening at 6:30-7 and gets up at 6-6:30 in the morning.
We just got back from a week at the beach and it was so much fun. DS did SO great, I was really proud of him. We had a five hour car ride there and four on the way back- he didn't make a peep the whole time and did so well. He wasn't a fan of the sand, but liked the ocean. By the end of the week, he would try to run towards it. We would hold him and go out into the water just a little bit, where the water from the waves that had already broken would go by. I would kneel down and act like we were jumping the waves and he would laugh like crazy. There were three older boys for him to play with and he had a ball. He didn't sleep so well, but I think the reason was that he's outgrown the PNP.
Erinn: I nursed DS last night before he went to bed and again this morning. I know weaning won't happen in one day but yesterday was a nice break! With that said, I too haven't gotten AF yet. I've had cramps here-and-there so I think it's just a matter of weaning and it will return. Although, now you have me a little worried.
Okay, I'm back after some Internet reading. Most sources agree with this statement:
Some moms get their periods when the baby is two or three months old, even if they are exclusively breastfeeding. Other moms may be partially breastfeeding and not get their cycle back until they wean. It just depends on the mother and how sensitive she is to the hormonal influences of breastfeeding. It may also be influenced by how often the baby is nursing, if the baby is supplemented with bottles, if the baby takes a pacifier, how long the baby sleeps at night, and if solids have been introduced.
Now back to being less worried . . .
amurphy- thanks for the research. My luck AF will show when we go on vacation in 10 days or right after when I'm supposed to go for my yearly exam- the only 2 times of the year that I really don't want it. I figured I was just a little sensitive to the hormones (there has to be some excuse for my mood swings;)- that or the continual sleep deprivation). I'm hoping to have Ayla weaned by 15 months- that gives me 2 more months.
Good morning, everyone. Just swinging by with a minor weaning victory. I nursed DS last night (first time that day) right before bed, he slept until 6:30 this morning, and didn't even attempt to nurse when I got him out of his crib. He is clearly only nursing in the morning when he wakes up too early and needs help falling back to sleep. So, I'm feeling confident that the morning nursing sessions will be a thing of the past soon. Then it's on to cutting out the before bed nursing. With all that said, I've had cramps on-and-off for the past two days. Interesting. More to say but I've got to run to a meeting!
Hi girls,
Ramona: adorable pictures! Your DS looks so much like you :)
We've had a rough week.... I am so tired! DH had nose surgery last Wednesday for a deviated septum. So, I've had my hands full taking care of him and Owen. To top it off, Owen has had major attitude lately. He has been very whiney and I can't figure out why. He used to be so happy-go-lucky and was very laid back. But now, he developed this "attitude" and he gets upset by things very quickly. I am thinking he had a delayed reaction to his MMR vaccine which he had on July 19th.... he hasn't had a fever but he is not eating very much and he has been clingy, whiney, etc. He had some red dots on his torso and face yesterday but they are gone now. Poor kid!
Other than his new attitude, he is also developing a cute little personality. He loves to do things and have us clap for him. He gets a huge grin on his face, and then he hides his face...like he is shy or embarrased. It is really funny.
Still not walking :rolleyes: He stands all on his own (without support) and drinks from his sippy so his balance is great. He even takes 5-7 steps, but no official walking. He is also not saying any words. He is extremely verbal though, which makes me not worry so much. My ped said not to worry about not having words yet.... as long as he is talking/babbling that is fine.
If DH is all healed by next weekend, we are going to drive up the coast and leave Owen overnight with my parents! That will be the first time since he's been born.
Okay ladies..... I hope everyone has a great week :)
Well ladies I know what was causing Peytons rash/hives. Nut allergy. Great!
This past saturday we were at a picnic and not only did I give him potato chips cooked in peanut oil , but I gave him the gooey center of a pecan pie thinking "im not giving him the nut part so it should be ok", ummmmm DUH!
The whole pie has nuts and nut parts in it.
Now my little man has red dots all over him and his face has hives.
CONGRATS to all the new walkers, talkers and weaned ones!
Dan's Girl - Aw, poor Peyton! Had he not had any nuts yet, like peanut butter? I hope he gets better soon! He's an absolute cutie pie though. And he looks like such a little boy, y'know? I don't know about you, but I get kind of sad when I look at Brady and he looks like a boy and not a baby...I noticed you still have him rear-facing in his car seat? Is he 20lbs yet? I ask because it brings up a question for you all
How many of you switched your car seats to forward-facing once your child was over 20lbs?
I'm hoping that Brady will finally get to 20lbs at his next WBV at the end of August. While DH and I are excited to turn his car seat around so he can see us, I'm a bit nervous about it to. Everything I've read says that rear-facing is the safest and that you should do it for as long as your car seat allows, but I'd also like to be able to check in on my little fella. What are/have you all done?
Gina~ He is still RF in my car but FF in DH's car. Im really really really a freak about the car seat and it being secure and safe so we have them installed by the fire department. Well the only one near us only has 1 guy that can do it and he works 1 day each week for a few hours and in the last month its been when Im at work! He HATES being RF in my car so I hope it happens soon for him to be FF.
He was 27 lbs at this 1 year WBV....he was over 20 lbs at 9 mo's when we switched from the pumpkin seat to this car seat.
I agree about our kiddos looking like little boys/girls. He doesn't look like a baby anymore at all and with him running full speed down the hallway saying "mama look dog dog" there is no way i can call him a baby. :::SIGH::::(;)
gina, DS is still rear facing in the middle of the car. Our car seat goes up to like 45lbs rear facing so we will keep him there for quite a while yet. We have a mirror on the back seat that allows us to see him and he LOVES looking at himself in it! Might be worth a shot if you aren't going to turn him around.
ff/rf I turned DS around a week or so before he turned 1. He was already over 20 lbs. at that point. He was looking really uncomfortable because his legs were getting so long. I hated not being able to see him and he has also done much better in the car since he's been FF.
What an exciting night here for us - Javan took his first steps tonight. we were so thrilled that we got to see it happen! Just last thursday he stood up unassisted and last night he took two fumbly steps toward dh. tonight he actually walked towards something and could have kept going if his toy wasnt in his way (he bent down to pick it up!). I was so afraid i would miss seeing him take his first steps.
CONGRATS TO ALL THE NEW WALKERS!
Dan's*GirlYikes. at least you figured it out. he's such a cutie. i love that photo of him all stretched out - just too adorable.
ff/rf we turned him around earlier this month. He was 20lbs (or just shy of it). even though his infant seat went up to 23lbs we went ahead and switched him cos he was getting too long for the seat. he loves being ff now and we like it too cos we interact so much more.
FF/RF: We turned Declan FF just after his first birthday. He is much happier in the car now. His poor little legs were cramped when he was BF.
Shaq: Congratulations on J's walking! Very exciting!
Jbenny: Could the whiney be the result of teeting? DS was really clingy and whiney a couple weeks ago and then two molars poked through.
I finally got around to posting birthday pictures in the First Birthday thread. Took me long enough! Looking back at the pictures I was struck by how much DS has changed since then! I have to say, since I complain when he isn't sleeping, that he has been such a doll lately. He goes to bed (naps and for the night) with little more than a peep. He is waking up at 6 or 6:30 and we haven't nursed for a week! He is still nursing at night before bed though. Shaq, I understand your concern about DS getting enough milk. Since eliminating the daytime & morning nursing sessions, Declan has been better about drinking milk from his sippy throughout the day. I also make sure he eats cheese & yogurt everyday. So I'm hoping he is getting enough.
Dansgirl: those pics of payton are so cute. he is getting so grown up looking.
Bailey had a rough week last week. She got her 1 yr shots on tues. afternoon that night she threw up from 100 - 330 poor baby - she was fine after that til the next night she did it 2 times. I think it was a combo of the shots, big people food, milk not formula & she has 4 teeth coming in :eek:
2 have already came through & her bottom 2 are almost through her gums are sooo swollen - these are teeth 9-12 wow :eek::eek::eek: she is like a piranha (sp?) when trying to put in oragel ... lol
she has been walking for 3 wks now .... she has has 3 major bruises on her head from hitting the table or corner of the wall ... OUCH!
I know I will never catch up but here goes...
Walkers-Congrats!!! H is still not walking and he's a May baby!:(
FF-We switched him about a week ago and he is much happier and so are we. Especially DH. He always had me crawling back there and checking on DS is he made any little peep or was too quiet :rolleyes: I always say he's a better mommy than me and he gets mad. He's so paranoid when it come to the baby.
Sick babies!-Hope they are all feeling better soon. I started letting H have a bit of peanut butter and we have had no reaction in the two weeks he's had it. How do you know you are in the clear?
Pictures-I'm telling you all, we have some of the cutest babies on the boards! Glad to see a smiling pic of Peyton. Loving Shaq's avatar of J at the beach!
When I was looking at pictures from Delcan's birthday party I was struck at how much he has changed in the last month. Four days after his birthday he started to walk and now he is climbing stairs, jumping (not getting any air), and loves us to chase after him. This is a really fun age!
amurphy that photo of you and declan at the beach is gorgeous. which beach did you guys go to? btw how many teeth does he have? and i agree this is a really fun stage!
Mystikal i know how excited you are - since last thursday we've had so much fun watching him stand up on his own and then just start walking! i'm still trying to get a video clip and photo's. congrats to Julia.
I can finally stop worrying about the milk transition - since saturday we have had no problems with him taking to the ricemilk (or ebm+ricemilk) in the sippy. i just gave it to him cold and he actually liked it and since then he's been drinking it. so now i'm down to 2 sessions a day and then in the next month i can eliminate one more and then get rid of the last session. so i guess by 15mths we'll be done bfing. he is loving this whole walking thing. its funny when we ask him to come to us, he has to sit down, then stand and then he'll walk - i guess he wants to get a good start or something! its amazing in just 4 days how much he has improved.
Shaq: The beach picture was taken when we were visiting my Mom in Belmar, NJ. NJ gets a bad wrap but there are some beautiful areas--far away from the NJ Turnpike! ;) We are currently counting down the days to our two week NJ vacation. I can't wait! :D
As for the teeth, Declan now has 10! Five on the top and five on the bottom. I suspect another one is coming based on the amount of drool he has been leaking this week.
Thanks everyone.
I am so jealous of your walkers. I have been getting him to stand a lot on his own now but he's kind of scared.
Hats-H used to be a great hat wearer. Then I could never keep one on him. I tried that hat on H at Children's Place a few weeks ago totally expecting to rip it off and he didn't. He cried when I took it off. I thought for $2 I'll try it and he has been wearing it ever since with no problems! That and a wider brimmed sun hat as well. You never know, keep trying! He goes thru phases. Same with shoes!
A little history on the pirate shot--My crew of friends and I have a long standing joke about pirates. It all started when I posted the rant of all rants a few weeks before my wedding. My friend took the entire rant and put it thru a pirate talk generator--it was hysterical.
Flash foward to my wedding. As soon as we were announced as husband and wife--we heard an ARRRRGGGHHH from the audience. We looked out at them and saw atleast 30 of them wearing eyepatches and cheering us on.
So the pirate hat seemed appropriate!
Hello everyone!
Wow, it seems like a long time since I've been here. Congratulations on all the new happenings...from walking and talking to new pregnancies and everything in between.
We have been very busy the past few months...including Ethan's first birthday, our first family vacation to Florida and my going back to work.
Ethan started walking just over a week ago and while it's not all the time (still moves much faster when crawling) he is getting much more stable and much better at walking around. He's still not talking much and while I'm starting to get a little worried about it, I'm going to keep working with him to improve. Ethan has three words that he uses (Mama, Dada and Nana) but he does chat to us ALL the time, I just can't understand.
I started back to work a week ago and it's been better than I expected, but still very hard leaving my baby.
Life is great (other than being back at work) and my baby is no longer a baby. He's getting so independent and it's bittersweet. It's a little sad that he no longer needs me as much as he did before, but it's so much fun to play with him and watch his personality develop.
We are hoping to start TTCing again in the fall...although I still haven't gotten AF back after stopping BFing. So never thought I would say it, but I'm anxiously awaiting the return of AF, it's almost been 2 years since I last had it.
Here are a couple of pictures from Ethan's birthday and our trip to Florida:
Swimming in his pool (he absolutely loves the water)
Cute pictures and video, Mystical. J has such pretty blonde hair. What a cutie! I know you are anxious for J to walk more consistently, but I have to tell you that I'm a little sad Declan hardly crawls now. Just another sign that his "baby" days are a thing of the past!
Continuing my post because I just saw the post from long-lost Mom, -Mrs. Brownie! Nice to read what you've been up to and to see pictures of your little one. I don't think there is any need to worry about talking/number of words at this point. There is so much variation in language development at this age. On another note, it's a relief to read that there is another woman on this thread who hasn't had a PP AF yet. I'm still nursing right before Declan's bedtime but I too am getting anxious about AF! I even dreamt this weekend that she finally returned. Now that's pathetic!
Amurphy ~ It's great to know I'm not the only one...only you are still BFing, so you have an excuse. I stopped over a month ago and still nothing. I keep wondering if it's worth going to my Dr. about, but I don't think that's going to solve the problem. Who would've ever thought I would be upset that I DIDN'T have AF.
And thanks for the reassurance about the talking...I know there is so much information about there about what your baby should and shouldn't be doing, it's a wonder I'm not more neurotic or paranoid.
Quick Question ~ What do you do about shoes for your little one?
I'm very torn on buying footwear for DS and don't know what to do. Do I go out now and buy him the pre-walking shoes (he's not walking full-time yet) and then go in another month or two and get him actual walking shoes? Do I wait another few weeks and just get him walking shoes and let him go barefoot in the meantime.
I'm just so confused...especially since the walking/pre-walking shoes are so expensive and I'm just not sure how long they are going to last.
Why does everything have to be so hard and confusing?
Mystikal great video. she's so funny. dont worry about the steps. i found that if we tried to make him do it he didnt want to but he'll get up on his own and walk.
MrsBrownie great to hear from you. ethan is so cute. glad you guys are doing great. his birthday cake is gorgeous.
shoes i mostly keep him barefeet and when we're out and about, he used pedipeds or other soft soled shoes. i've a lot of the stride rite shoes and teh soles just look so thick. i might wait a while before i even get him a pair of those. he is really comfortable in pedipeds though. i just have 2 pairs, one that he wear alot since the other one is too big. he is still a size 3 and we just got him size 4 dress shoes the other day but they're still big on him.
MrsBrownie, What a cutie!! I can't believe how "big-boy" Ethan looks! :D So cute!! Lucas is the same way with the water! I am still waiting for PP AF too and while I enjoy not having her, it's hard to start TTC without her! :p :rolleyes:
Shoes: We had Lucas in tennis shoes early on (6 months or so...?) and now that he is walking FT, he has another pair of tennis shoes. Since it's summer, he doesn't wear them too often (usually just barefoot) but when he does wear them, he loves them!
Thanks for the compliments on Ethan...it's true what they say, you never really realize how quickly time passes until you have a child of your own. I still can't believe we have toddlers.
I wish I could get the Pedipeds up here, but I have not seen them anywhere. All we really get here are the Stride Rite (but in limited quantity and styles) and Geox.
I guess I will wait another month or two until the weather starts to get colder and Ethan is walking full time before getting him a 'real' walking shoe. For now, I will continue to put him in his Robeez at the daycare (just cause I hate the idea of him crawling and walking around without any protection) and barefoot the rest of the time.
Babylust ~ I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one that hasn't gotten AF back...I was really starting to worry. I guess I will wait another month or two (am I noticing a pattern) until I get really worried and go to the Dr. about it. Last time I got all worked up about a missing AF it appeared the day I went to the Dr. about it, and 14 days later we were PG...how's that for timing. I wonder if it can happen twice!
shoes Before DS could walk, he just wore socks. The pre-walkers just never seemed to stay on his feet that well. When he began to walk at 10 months, I bought him a pair of sneakers from Payless and a pair of sandals. He also has a pair of water shoes. He walks very well in all three. In the house, he goes barefoot. I asked my ped if it was important to buy a pair of really good walking shoes and he said that the most important thing was that they fit correctly and that they needn't be expensive. He said that since they grow so quickly, if you buy a pair of expensive shoes that fits just right, they may only last a short time, so save yourself the money by just getting an inexpensive pair that fit correctly.
DS has learned to open doors. Fun. We have levers instead of doorknobs and the things that keep him from opening them have to be mounted on the door plus they are also expensive and we have a lot of doors! We are trying to sell our house, so we don't want to take off every lever to put the lock on. I wish we just had doorknobs! I am having to forever chase him out of the powder room, coat closet, and office. I have to barricade my bedroom door while I get dressed. He is just so darn BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. This is such a fun stage in most ways, but I'll admit I look forward to the time when he's not so into everything. It gets exhausting. I sometimes envy those of you who don't have walkers yet.
Wow, I can't believe how big our babies are getting! I've been following along, just not posting much as is usually the case with me.
I'll try to hit a few questions before micah wakes up:
shoes: He hated shoes for quite a while, but now he loves them. He has really small peanut feet though. I have some pedipeds, but without socks they don't stay on yet. Also a tiny pair of Teva sandals that are cute. He walks really well now (started walking full time about a week after his 1st b-day), but he still does best with bare feet.
AF: None for me either, but we're still nursing. Not using any bc though, so I guess it's possible we could get pg again without the return of AF should I start ovulating. I'd rather it not happen for another few months ideally though. Micah wipes me out.
I'm in the midwest and it has been sooooo hot lately! We bought a new house last Dec. (huge victorian that was not well taken care of and the bank repo'd), spent several months trying to get it partially livable, and moved in a couple days after Micah turned 1. We're only living in the downstairs right now, and it isn't as bad as it sounds :o, except that lately it's been 90+ with extreme humidity around here, and we don't have A/C! Ugh. I usually love summer, but I'm really looking forward to cool weather this year...
Let me see if I can find a couple cute pics to post...
He loooves the vacuum, which is a huge turn around from a couple months ago when he was terrorized by it. He's constantly going to the closet and knocking, and when I don't open the door he flips out. Goofy kid.
Congratulations on your new home, Gaffy! Cute picture of Ethan and beautiful backyard.
Shoes: Delcan wore Robeez until he started walking. He is usually barefoot at home but wears his oshkosh sandles 90% of the time when we are out of the house and his Converse All Stars 10% of the time. He has wicked stinky feet though so I try to let them get air as much as possible! :D
So I've noticed over the last two weeks or so just how much Declan understands in regard to what we say, how things work, where things are, what things do. It's pretty cool. For example, I told him last night, "Pick up your dirty dipe and put in the garbage in the bathroom." He did it! Later on he was snacking on cereal and dropped some on the floor. I told him to pick it up and put in the garbage in the kitchen. He did it again and this time had to lift the garbage lid. It's really fascinating to watch our kids grow and change and learn.
One more week until my vacation begins! Yahoo! :D
Adorable babies ladies :) Too cute!
Well, I am happy to report that I officially have a walker!! Owen has been taking 5-7 steps for the past 3 weeks, but no official walking. Well,this past Sunday we visited his cousins and I really believe that being around the older kids (3.5 yrs, 7 yrs, 9 yrs) made him want to walk. He began walking at their house and hasn't stopped since! However, if he falls, he tends to crawl for a bit, before getting back up and walking :rolleyes:
Shoes: This has been on my mind a lot lately. At home, DS is barefoot, but I always put shoes on him when we go out. I used Robeez when he was little, and I even bought some Striderite pre-walkers but they fell off all of the time. For the past few months, he's been waring some flip-flops/thongs which I picked up at Children's Place and Payless. But now that he is walking, I want to get him some good, supportive shoes. I keep looking at Striderite but they seem so stiff..... I thought beginner walking shoes were supposed to be flexible. Jbenny: That's great to hear that inexpensive shoes does not necessarily mean bad shoes! I will check out payless. I found a pair of Sketchers that I really like (made out of the same material Crocs are) for DS but the smallest size is a 6 so we will have to wait on those.......
Graffy:Wow! What an amazing backyard..... I am so jealous!! I am dying to have a vegetable garden but we just don't have the room! Backyards in Southern California are tiny!!
Have a great rest of the week!
Hello all!!
It is has been forever since I've posted here. I have been reading along every update I get though. I love seeing all the pictures and videos.
We've been super busy. We've been having pool "play" dates at least 3 days out of the week. It's great for the kids but I'm having to keep up with the house much more now.
The boys have really developed their love/hate relationship. They will both get their eye on something and literally fight over it. It is usually Troi that ends up being the bruiser though. They have had more time out's in the past few months then I think anyone else in the world. When they love each other though, it's amazing. They share, hold hands, read together, hug and kiss. It's beautiful.
Brian is half German so he speaks it to Nikolas all the time,they'll hold conversations. Nikolas is now trying to teach Troi some words, it's so cute.
Troi has also started climbing on everything. I left him on the patio one day while I was picking up dog poop in the yard and I hear Nikolas yelling, "mommy tell Troi to get down". I look on the patio and Troi is sitting on top of the table. He climbed up onto the chair and got onto the table from there. Nothing keeps him on the ground.
We taught Nikolas sign language growing up and we've been teaching Troi too, along with Nikolas' help. Wanted to post these two videos that happened today.
What cute toddlers everyone has!
I'll be back to post answers to all the discussions soon, but I'm coming in now to get a little support from all of you...as I'm feeling like a bad Mommy today.
Brady and I were outside this evening playing in the grass. Brady got up the small step towards the garage and stood up. Now, I know I should have been right there with him, but I was pulling up a weed right next to him in the flower bed. Well, I turned my head for one second, and down the step he went, scraping his forehead on the concrete. Boy did he let out a howl. It didn't bleed too bad, but it's right smack in the middle of his head and looks pretty ouchie. I gave him a bath to clean it up, with some infant ibuprofen, neosporin and a bandaid before putting him to bed. He seemed OK and was walking and chatting like normal, other than being a little tired and fussy. DH is out at a business dinner, and I just KNOW he's going to give me crap about this when he gets home. I feel awful that I wasn't there to protect him, or to see him step off, but he's also a toddler that will get more than enough scrapes in the next few years. I just want to stop feeling like crap about it. Every time I relive the image in my head, I feel like crying. How do you get over this mommy guilt?
Here's a pic of my poor baby in the bath tonight...it's not as bad as it could be, right? :(:(:(
Gina If I took pictures of every single scrape and bruise Troi got, or even Nikolas, people would think they were abused. They fall all the time, always get hurt, but just keep going. On Troi's birthday party here at home, a metal folding chair fell on his big toe. His toenail is still growing out so there is a constant bruise on it.
Nikolas cut himself with something (can't remember what) on his stomach a while back. Although it has healed he's always going to have a scar there.
Just know that there are more to come, some not so bad, some worse. Either way, they really are very resillient and will bounce back. Try not to worry too much. Just keep neosporin on it don't let him pick the scabs.
gina: Declan was laying on the livingroom floor one day when he was teeny tiny and I walked past him to bring my lunch plate into the kitchen. My spoon fell off my plate and hit him on the forehead. He cried like crazy and had a big bump between his eyes. That was the first of what will surely be a lifetime of bumps and bruises! You can't watch them every second of every day . . . and even if you did they'd still manage to hurt themselves somehow. From your picture, Brady doesn't look any worse for the wear! (What a cute boy!) Don't feel quilty!
gina-Did I post in here about the case of the torn frenulum last week? I was lying on the couch and H was in his PNP and fell and I don't know how the hell it happened but he tore that piece of skin that holds your upper lip to your gums! He bled bad. I felt terrible, but I was RIGHT THERE, what could I have done? Then the next night he moved a pillow on the floor and faceplanted himself on the lineoleum floor on purpose busting his top lip! He couldn't have layed on the pillow, had to lay on the hard floor. I was so afraid DH was going to be pissed about the frenulum but he wasn't. He's very protective. No permanent damage done, I would have felt extremely bad too but that's because I'm a mom, that's what we do! Atleast H's injury was where I could not see it, that helped. Like everyone said, it's one of many injuries he will get as a toddler.
gina dont feel bad. i honestly feel like there's only so much you can do to protect your baby. both dh and i were watching javan the other day playing on our bed and he fell backwards and had a screaming fit. he's had some bruises and such too - havent drawn blood yet but his worst so far was when he closed the cabinet door on thumb. it was swollen pretty bad but what can you do. poor brady - he looks so adorable, even with that boo boo.
graffy do you want to trade homes!!! what an amazing backyard you have.
Thank you to all of you for your comments - they helped me feel better about things. I didn't sleep too well last night, but feel OK about things today. And in retrospect I know that me being right next to him might not have changed things. I'm just grateful he didn't land on his mouth or hurt his teeth or do some serious damage. He's been in a great mood this morning, slept through the night last night, and seems to have forgotten the whole incident. It's times like this though, when I have no family around and feel isolated that I'm so very thankful for this thread!
Niko&Troi - Thanks. I know this is just the beginning of a long line of scrapes and such, and there's bound to be lots of falls and trips as Brady figures out his world. And being that Brady's a boy, I'm sure he'll have his fair share of scrapes and cuts. Just so I don't seem like a crazy person, I don't take pictures of every bump and such, but I took this with my cell phone while talking to my MIL, who is a NICU nurse, and sent it to her so she could give me some advice about what to put on it.
amurphy - thanks for making me feel better. I know I can't watch him every single second, and I know I'm not a negligent mommy. Still, I feel so bad for him. It looks a little better this morning, and Brady seems fine.
Pink - DH wasn't actually mad when I told him, he actually felt bad for me and gave me a big hug. Although, I prefaced telling him with a disclaimer that whatever he could say I've already thought or felt, and that he wasn't allowed to make fun of me about it in the future. My MIL made a comment that unfortunately since I'm the one around Brady most of the time, things like this will happen more on my watch, which made me laugh. Funny but true, right? And Brady's done the pillow trick as well. Why he can't seem to land on the carpet, I'll never know.
Shaq - It's amazing how all at once they are in and out of control of their little bodies. Brady gets really excited running down the hallway and then gets so surprised when he slips. And thanks, I think he's still pretty darn cute, even with his Gorbachev-like gash on his forehead.
Just wanted to share a funny moment we had this morning.
Our cat frequently tries to do her claws on the carpet, or Annabelle's play mat. I usually tell her no, chase her and put her outside on the straw mat. This morning I told her no. Annabelle was playing with a wooden spoon. After Smarties had run off, Annabelle trailed along, spoon in hand, saying "no" repeatedly after the cat. It was so funny to see, like she was so intimidating with that spoon!
gina Don't beat yourself up! There have been many times that DS has managed to hurt himself when I was right there beside him and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Last night, he did get hurt when it was my fault and I feel awful about it. Whenever I'm folding towels, sheets, etc., DS loves to play peek-a-boo, so I usually throw something over his head, then we play going in and out under a sheet, towel, or blanket. Last night, he came running over as I was folding a sheet, so I threw it over his head. DH started asking me something and it totally diverted my attention and I forgot about poor DS under the sheet. As he was trying to get out, he fell and hit his rock, roll, and ride tricycle, giving himself a bloody lip! I felt so terrible. I keep trying to tell myself that it was DH's fault for distracting me.:rolleyes:
Taking a break from vacation for a little update. I nursed DS for the last time on Friday (last week). I'm glad I didn't know it was the last time or else I would have broken down in tears. We were away from him for the night on Saturday attending a wedding and since he went to bed without a problem that night, I decided it was time try cutting out his before bed nursing session. He's done just fine. And AF returned this Friday--a week to the day! Amazing!
We are having a great time on vacation. He's swimming like crazy and enjoying spending time with his grandparents and Aunt. Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I'll check in again soon!
amurphy Aw. I know how you feel. I was coming in to post something similar. I gave DS his last bottle tonight before bed. I have been slowly making it smaller and smaller each night and I decided that tonite would be the last one. I hadn't anticipated it, but I was so sad and I cried as I took him to bed.:(
we've gotten awfully quiet in here! too busy chasing those busy little ones right ;)
DH and I were so proud of Javan last night. I found one of his fridge magnets close to the front door. I asked him to take it and put back on the fridge clearly expecting him to just sit on the floor and play with it. Nope! He took it from me and walked straight to the fridge, put it on there and came right back to me! We started cheering to let him know he did something great and he looked at us like 'i have such goofs for parents!'
i'm still bfing in the am and pm. I really want to cut out one session but just havent been strict about it. I'd like to get rid of the am first but DH isnt making that one easy since as soon as Javan wakes up he brings him right to me so of cos he wants to nurse. He is doing great on ricemilk and has days were he eats really well and then days he couldnt be bothered. he LOVES his fruit, not so much the veggies so I have to get creative about getting them in him (last night i did butternut soup and he loved that).
he is saying mama, dada, hi, how-woh (hello), bah/bah-bye (bye-bye), top (stop), no, wa-wa (water - we think!), bub (bath), uh-oh, yea, baby, car, ball, down (though this one isnt too clear as yet - its more like tun). whenever you say bye to him he'll say it back and will immediately say car right after! he also says top it (stop it), teet tun(sit down), tat choo (thank you). he loves to read. after i get his pj's on at night he goes to his little chair and picks up his book to read -its so cute. sometimes if i'm looking for him, i'll find him sitting in his room reading his books.
well here's a little funny story - the other night i had my face mask on and it was white so of cos not a pretty sight. when javan saw me it freaked him out and he literally ran from me and sat in the corner of his room with his head buried into the wall. when i picked him up he didnt want to look at me and he cried those big crocodile tears and you know that cry when you're crying so much you cant breathe, yea thats how bad i scared my child :o
shaqangel Yeah on all of Javan's accomplishments! It's so much fun to watch them learn and grow.
Annabelle is doing similar things to Javan. I don't post much because there are just too many fun things happening that I'd be writing all day long! She is absolutely IN LOVE with Elmo. I found a discounted Elmo DVD and she always asks to watch it. She'll grab the remote, bring it to us and say Elmo. So far she doesn't get too upset that we don't usually play it. I try to divert her attention to an Elmo book or some other toy. I don't want her to watch too much tv. When she does, it's usually not more than for 15-20 minutes at a time. After that, she just gets up to go play with something else. She loves playing outdoors and pointing out at planes or birds in the sky. She will also call out a ball or balloon ANYWHERE! "Ball" is definitely her first most-used word.
Does your DC still use a pacifier? For us, it's pretty much limited to the crib and the car, but she definitely still likes it. I'll have to ask at our next ped visit if there's any reason we should be trying to stop the habit.
Shaq and Izzy: Cute stories :) Isn't this a fun age?
We've been busy with park and beach playdates these past few weeks. Owen absolutely loves being with other kids. He has been walking full-time for the last 3 weeks and he seems to always be on the go....... it's no wonder I am so tired at the end of each day.
He is definitely getting more "head strong," which is both good and bad. I like that he has "opinions," but it is also a big pain in the you-know-what. He is generally a happy boy but he becomes a major grump without his naps which is a struggle since he is not taking naps as easily as he did before :rolleyes: I used to be able to put him in his crib (while awake) and he'd play for a bit, then fall asleep. Now, he won't go near his crib!! He screams and has a tantrum if I put him in there. So, he has been napping on the couch. At night, he is sleeping in the PNP in our room, which is better than in our bed where he had been before. He finally started sleeping through the night a few months ago but now the naps are going....... funny how you move forward in one area, and back in another :rolleyes:
Pacifiers: Owen still likes his "paci." He hated them until he was 7 months old. He naps/sleeps with one and I give it to him in the car. I try not to give it to him during the day, but, if he gets fussy, I tend to give it to him. At our 12 month WBV, our ped told me that when we were ready to wean him from it, to give it to him only when he is about to nap/sleep,in the car, or during "stressful" situations. I am not bothered that he is still using a paci. We will probably try to wean in the next few months.
Bottles: Speaking of weaning, how many of your DC's still take a bottle? Owen is a bit odd, in that, he refused to drink from a bottle until I stopped bf'ing (10 months). He now has a bottle of milk in the morning and before bed and drinks from a sippy all other times. He really isn't "into" the night bottle, but he really likes his morning bottle as soon as he wakes up.
Have a great weekend!!
Hello all :D
Just wanted to come in and post really quickly that I am off to get a crib tent for Troi. We have company and we're sitting in the living room and hear this big bang from the boys room. We go running in there and Troi, who was relaxing in his crib, was walking out to us, screaming :eek: He has learned to climb out of his crib :eek: My heart stopped briefly. This never happened with Nikolas. I really am getting too old for this heart stopping stuff.
Ok, gotta run to WalMart now to get one. Talk to you all soon.
Pacifiers: DS hasn't used a paci since he was 4 months old or so (IIRC) so that hasn't been an issue. He never needs one. I thought it was a little strange but I'm glad so no complaining here! :p
Bottles: DS still takes one at bedtime and once in a while during the day if he is fussy or super tired and won't nap. It definitely helps him sleep! I'm not too worried about weaning him from it just yet because it comforts him, but recently, he has started falling asleep on his own after the bottle, where before he would fall asleep during the bottle, so hopefully we can eliminate it altogether in the next few months.
Hi, everyone! We are still on vacation and having a great time. DH and I just got back from our three days in Bermuda and Declan did just fine with his Nana & Grampa. When DH and I got off the train on Sunday night, Declan just stared at us like, "Where the heck where you guys." Then we got in the car and he started freaking out--smiling, kicking his feet, yelping, flapping is hands, and saying "MA! MAMA! MA!" It was really cute. We have one more week of vacation and we intend to spend in on the beach now that DS has gotten over his aversion to sand! :D
Pacifiers: DS never used a pacifier. He sucked his thumb when he was tiny but stopped that by 6 months.
Bottles: We stopped giving him a bottle when I started weaning him. I was afraid the "sucking" motion would remind him of nursing so we cut them out completely. He was fine with it. He never was very attached to his bottle.
pacifiers DS uses one for bedtime and in the car. It doesn't bother me, so I haven't tried to stop it. I think it could be a problem at bedtime when we do take it away because DS had a cold recently and I tried to get him to go without it because he couldn't suck on it and breathe at the same time, but he had a fit. He would suck on it, then stop and breathe. It looked really awful to me, but he did not want to give up his paci.
How many naps is everyone taking? I think DS is transitioning to one nap. His naps have been all over the place for a few weeks. It's tough on me because I think I need the routine more than he does. A couple of weeks ago, he wasn't sleeping in the morning, but taking 2 1/2 to 3 hour naps in the afternoon. :eek: This is from a kid who rarely napped more than an hour in his entire life. I wish it would have lasted longer! For a few days, he's been sleeping in the morning, but not the afternoon. He's also back to one hour to an hour and a half or so of napping. Today, he went down at 10:30. I hope it doesn't take too long to figure out. Like I said, I need that routine. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about showering and getting dressed. I always did that during his morning nap. My choices are either to let him completely destroy my bedroom and bathroom or listen to him cry and whine from the PNP. I will probably just be looking like crap because it's easier than trying to find the time to get ready.
Hi ladies,
I hope everyone is well. Where did this summer go?? I am seeing Fall stuff at all the stores and am thinking, "hey, didn't we just start summer??"
Jbenny: We are going through the EXACT same thing. Owen's naps are all over the place and I too, used to take my shower during his morning nap. Last week, I stuck him in his PNP for one shower, ane he cried the whole time :rolleyes: So, for the rest of the week, I let him come in the shower with me!! He seems to like sitting at the bottom of the shower playing with toys. I have to take a quick shower and can't shave my legs with him in there (which isn't good) but I figure at least I am getting a shower!! I really am not ready for him to give up his morning nap. I, like you, need him to have a schedule more than he needs a schedule I think........
In other news, Owen is finally saying more than "dada". He now says "mama" but I don't think he is referring to me when he says it ;), and he is also saying "nana" which I have no idea what that means. He seems to say that word the most and get's really excited when saying it.
Hello All :D
Just wanted to drop in really quick before I start working.
Paci's Troi only uses one for naps and when he's cranky in the car. He is no where near as dependent on it as Nikolas was.
Naps/Schedule Troi wakes at 7AM, no matter how late he was up. He goes down usually from 10 to 11 and then for at least 2 hours in the afternoon. And then down for the night at 8. There are days when we either don't get a morning or afternoon nap, but for the most part he is still on that schedule. He will also now go into his room and try to climb in his crib when he's tired.
Bottles He gets a bottle in the morning, sippy's through the day and if he needs help getting to sleep we give him water. He doesn't usually drink it, he just likes to hold it, it's like his security bottle.
Troi has adjusted well to his crib tent. He still tried to climb out though, but at least now I know he's not going anywhere. However whatever else he can climb on, he does. He climbs into his chair when he wants to eat, and climbs into the car seat. He has also learned his first sign, eat. But he says it for everything, food, drink and uses it instead of the sign for daddy.
Well I have to get to work. Take care and stay well all.
steviem Once again, N and Owen are so similar! I'm having a hard time figuring out this nap thing. I had been trying to just stick to our schedule and if he slept, he slept and if he didn't, he didn't. Since I figured that he might be transitioning to one nap, I've tried to twice to go with what he's doing and then he changes on me! When he was sleeping in the afternoon, but not morning (I would put him in his crib for an hour and he'd play the whole time), I decided to skip the morning and just put him down in the afternoon. This was when he had been sleeping two-three hours in the afternoon. So I skipped putting him down in the morning, he was a tired mess and only slept for an hour in the afternoon. :rolleyes: I went back to trying to do two naps. He then stopped sleeping in the afternoon and took a late morning nap (10:30 instead of 9:00). I thought I would go with the late morning nap and gradually push it back until we were doing one afternoon nap. That didn't work either. The day I tried it, he was ready to go down about 9:30, I kept him up until 10. Then he also needed to go down in the afternoon, but later (3:00) because his morning nap was pushed back. This also screwed up bedtime.:rolleyes: Today he got up at 5:30 AM (had been sleeping until 7 or after), went back down from 9-10:30, and just fell asleep now at 2:15 after fighting sleep up in his crib since 1:30. I don't know what to do with him. I'm just going to keep trying to go with the flow and hopefully, things will regulate and I can pick up a pattern somehow.
We have talked a lot about our kid's injuries, is anyone getting injured by their DC? DS gets so excited when we're playing and he wants to give me something, but doesn't quite get handing it over gently. He tends to throw things at me when he gets excited, so I've gotten hit quite a bit. Right now, I have a cut and a bruise on my nose from him launching a block at me. I've also been clocked in the face with toys a lot. Today he was looking down at something and walked right into my head with his head. That hurt for both of us. During tantrums, he has knocked my glasses across the room, hit me in the jaw so that my teeth hit off each other really hard, and hit me in the nose while flailing around. I have also had this huge Leapfrog catapillar thing dropped on my head while I was lying on my back on the floor. That sucker was heavy. DS is 100% boy and he plays rough, but I'll be glad when he's old enough to understand that he needs to be a little more careful
Paci's: Bailey has hers at naptime/bedtime - sometimes in the car
Naps/Schedule: wakes up by 700-730 she lays down around 1030 for about 30 mins - sometimes she just lays down & rest or plays - then at 130 she will got to bed for an hour - 2 hours - And then down for the night between 800-900.
Bottles: totally off the bottle & has been for almost 2 months wooohoo
getting hurt by dc: I get my chin headbutted all the time. If I am holding her or she wants down ... that totally hurts :rolleyes:
ITA Sunshine, it has been a long time since either of us have popped in;)
I could write a HUGE post, but wont at the moment as time does not allow, but I will catch up on the QOTD.
Paci's Peyton never really liked them and hasn't taken one since 3 months :D
Naps/Schedule P takes 30 mins in the morning around 10 and 2 hours in the afternoon around 1. That is at daycare. At home on the weekends its normally a 1 1/2 hour nap mid-day then nothing until bedtime at 8pm.
Bottles P only takes 2 bottles of vit d milk per day now, one right after wake up and one at bedtime (no, not in bed..i know better ;) ) My goal is to have him bottle free by christmas. He is becoming so independent with eating and drinking these days Im sure it wont be a problem. (ETA- He drinks water out of a sippy the rest of the day)
Getting hurt I have a Mike Tyson on my hands(im the only one he bites). He is 100% BOY and sometimes I don't know who's face looks worse, mine or his. Ive had a split lip (2 times) from tantrum headbutts, a black eye from a flying book, he has cracked me in the nose a couple of times that made it red, and numerous scratches and scrapes from toys, tantrums and just normal playing.
Here is my own QOTD:Teeth? Peyton has 4 on top and two on bottom. He has had all of these since he was 11 months old and other than the occasional drooling I see no signs of any more coming. I thought he should have way more by now. How many does your DC have now??
HI, I can't believe that it has been so long since I have done an update.
Teeth-seven so far (all within the last nine weeks)with a bunch on the way. Her mouth is full of swollen bumps. It is a guessing game which one will be next.
Milk--she drinks about 6 ounces a day from a straw cup. the rest is still on demand Breastmilk.
Naps- I have no idea what is happening, about three months ago,we finally set into a nice rythym ( even though she is a night owl )and now it is getting screwey again. Somedays she takes two naps- sometimes one really long one. I am going crazy trying to figure it out. I just hate the days that we never seem to make it out of the house waiting aimlessly for a nap that never comes--lol!
Pacis- never used them
getting hurt- I get smacked, zoinked, bit and clawed on a fairly regular basis :)
walking- real walking (and not taking steps) has begun! She also seems to be focusing on standing up without pulling or leaning on anything. She is so funny-when she focuses on learning something physical-she stops talking!
Accessorizing- she loves taking my sandals and wearing them on her elbows and dragging my purse around the house.
what a girl! thank god- grandma owns a shoe store! I
