I'm having problems finding a good facial cleanser and moisterizer.....I've tried many and am at the end of my rope, this isgetting expensive!!!!
Since having DD a few years ago, I have blemish issues in the T-Zone.
But, some cleansers leave my face so dry it peels.
Then, some moisterizers leave so oily.
What do you use for cleansers and moisterizers???

I have combination skin...oily in the T-zone, especially during the summer. During the winter it's not so bad.
I use Cetaphil for normal to oily skin.
http://www.cvs.com/Assets/images_product_large/021925.jpg
I like this Aveeno moisturizer because it helps with breakouts. I don't use it during the day during the summer because it leaves my skin to oily.

During the summer I like to use this moisturizer from Clarins. Keeps my skin from getting so oily.

I have the same issue (without the baby ;) ) and just recently switched to Avon's Porefection line and really like it.
The cleanser:

The mask:
http://shop.avon.com/shop/assets/images/prod/PROD_1023814_LG.gif
The oil-free lotion (that's also medicated to help clear up acne)
http://shop.avon.com/shop/assets/images/prod/PROD_1023817_LG.gif
I've definitely noticed that my skin is much less oily and have had fewer breakouts. Even when I start to get a blemish, it goes away pretty quick now.
On the website, the entire line is 50% off, so everything is between $4 and $5. You can also find sales sometimes for 3/$12.

I tried Cetaphil, didn't clean so well for me.
I'll look into the Aveeno - I like the body lotion, I didn't want to try it just in case, it is expensive.
I know an Avon rep - maybe I can try the Avon.....

I was concerned about wrinkles and, after voicing my concern, a fellow LJer suggested I try Aqua Glycolic (http://www.aquaglycolic.com). I've noticed an improvement in wrinkles, BUT the acne I used to get in my T-zone has been significantly reduced as well, which was a nice surprise. I use the cleanser/toner/moisterizer package and it's not bad in terms of price. I think it's arounfd ~$35 and usually lasts me a month and a half.
I have been using Garnier Nutritioniste (http://www.garniernutritioniste.com/en/#products/nutripure/cleansing_scrub) microbead cream scrub and I really like it. It doesn't dry out my skin and the beads helps exfoliate. I have also used Aqua Glycolic in the past and I like that as well.

I use dove bar soap to remove my eye makeup and then cetaphil on the rest of my face.

I use Oil of Olay Anti-Wrinkle Nutrients face wash and anti-wrinkle moisturizer, along with a generic oil-free eye makeup remover.
I have combination skin that leans towards the oily side of the spectrum. When I turned 27, my skin went crazy, and I started really breaking out. I bought Murad’s acne treatment system, and that got my skin back into shape. It’s expensive for all the components, though. So now I just use the Murad Acne Facial Cleanser. For moisture, I use Oil of Olay Sensitive skin moisturizer, which doesn’t clog up my pores at all. Every other day, or so, I mix the Oil of Olay with a bit of the Murad Exfoliating Acne Treatment gel and use that as a moisturizer. This has worked for me to keep my skin nice and clear. I buy the Murad products on Ebay – I try to get the professional sized stuff, since it’s cheaper in the long run.
I usually use Kiss My Face olive oil soap. I have very sensitive skin. In the past, I spent a lot of money on cleanser because my skin reacts so much to most cleansers, especially to sodium laureth sulfanate which is in almost every over the counter cleanser. Creamy cleansers with mineral oil also do weird things to my skin.
I always liked Mario Badescu cleanser because it is so mild and still cleans your skin. But I can't afford that now ($15 for a bottle) so I was glad to find that olive oil soap (of any kind but it has to be green) is just as good as any expensive cleanser I have ever tried. It leaves my skin very soft, never causes any redness or roughness and costs $2.99 for a bar that lasts for months and months.

I've learned that less is definitely more. For the past few years I've used just Johnson and Johnson Head to Toe Baby Wash to cleanse my face (morning and night) and my skin has never looked better (I have normal to dry skin). Last summer I had a brief (one bottle hehe) switch to Dermalogica and my skin looked no different or better than when I used the J&J, so I went back to the J&J.
In the morning after I wash I use sunscreen (family history of skin cancer, live in Florida, outside walking to/from my office) and at night I use a moisturizer. Right now it's The Body Shop Grapeseed Extra Rich Night Cream, but when I use this up, it will probably be something different. I tend to purchase whatever.

baby Wash!!! Never heard of that one!!!
Hey, if it works!
I can't imagine what my face would look like if I put sunscreen on it!!!
I'd be breaking out everywhere!
I went to a dermatologist before. They were of no use to me.
They gave me samples after samples and nothing helped.
they said there was only one kind of sunscreen I could put on my face that wasn't oily 9he name escapes me right now)
The stuff was LOTS of money!!!

To wash my face I use an Ayurvedic (Indian health care system) treatment - put a small amount of almond oil all over my face and neck, then rub a tsp. of chickpea flour (mixed with water to form a paste) on top of that. Rinse with warm water.
Since that can tend to be drying I moisturize with Jason Aloe Vera 84% cream.

I use Paula's Choice products (available online only). I use the Skin Balancing Cleanser, Toner, and Moisturizer. This combo is the only thing that keeps my skin from being too dry or too oily (I tend to have oily skin that flakes from the prescription acne creams and treatments I use).

Where do you get everything you posted? Health food store? Just curious b/c I never heard of an Ayurvedic treatment before for the skin and I'd like to know more.
Thanks.

i've done this before with turmeric and the chick pea flour. you can get that stuff at any indian market. its just regular food. warning - as i've said i have tried it, and i tried it for a whole month. what a mess!!! my skin was bright red and very dry from it all. i think it is best for those with oily skin types. i have dry and sensitive skin.
ez2luv - you might want to try the aveeno stuff. you can always return it if you don't like it. that's what i do with beauty products that don't work for me. of course, you can't be returning it half used.

I LOVE my skin care regiment:
Day
Astringent: Sea Breeze Astringent - Sensitive Skin
Moisturizer: Avon's Hydrofirming Lifting Day Cream SPF 15
Eye cream: ANEW ALTERNATIVE Intensive Eye Cream
Extra coverage to prevent more freckles: Avon's ANEW ALTERNATIVE Photo-Radiance Treatment SPF 15
Night
Cleanser: Aveeno's POSITIVELY RADIANT® CLEANSER
Astringent: Sea Breeze Astringent - Sensitive Skin
All-over moisturizer: Avon's ANEW ALTERNATIVE Intensive Age Treatment
Eye cream: ANEW ALTERNATIVE Intensive Eye Cream
I actually do not have sensitive skin, but I use that Sea Breeze formula because it's not as drying while still doing it's job (getting my face deep down clean).

I need something simple for my skin.
I never had acne in puberty, but it's floating around like crazy now, post-babies. Sometimes it's a full-out pimple, but mostly I'm blotchy everywhere.
Dry on forehead, oily and blotchy on nose and cheeks, breakouts on chin. I have some Avon Clearskin cleansers now and a Clean N Clear Astringent, but I don't really know what's for what. What's TONER and CLEANSER and ASTRINGENT? I just want something to even my skin and clear the blotches without caking on foundation every day.
HELP!!!!!!
I use Murad Acne Complex, but that may be a bit much for you. I love it, though it did dry my skin out a bit at the beginning. My skin did adjust just fine.
One thing to avoid -- any cleanser with Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS). It's a major irritant to skin and really dries things out while also contributing to blemishes (great combo, huh?). And it's found in almost every drugstore cleanser out there. Some cleansers in the Botanics line by Boots (sold at Target now) don't have SLS -- I think the foaming face wash doesn't have it, IIRC

All the acne treatments has the syclic (sp?) acid in it, but it does dry you out totally. The package says to use it 2 times a week, but I'd like to use somethine everyday to take away the acne/pimple/blemishes.

I second the Boots line at Target. I have a creamy cleanser and the No.7 Night Cream and I absolutely love them. The night cream is heavy but you don't break out from it and it is just great. Highly recommend and I have tried many, many things.
That being said I am also a fan of the Olay cloths in a pinch. Boots has some that I will try when I run out.

mom2two...I know!!!!!
That's me!!!
Nothing but clear skin until a baby - then watch out!!!
It's odd, people will point it out (they are so not used to seeing it on me!!!)
....no Target here....
But I agree, whats the diff b/w toner/astringent...???
Q - For those who have faves....
Does your product have Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS).
One thing to avoid -- any cleanser with Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS).
Yes! I think I am somewhat allergic to this. For the longest time I thought my skin was naturally ruddy or something until I figured that out. Most facial cleansers have this. I think it might be bad for the skin.
What's TONER and CLEANSER and ASTRINGENT?
Astringent cuts oil. It usually has an alcohol base. Toner is just for cleaning off residue or putting some kind of treatment on the skin to help it absorb products better.
I think it is better to avoid astringent. Supposedly, taking all the oil off your skin harshly does not help with either blemishes or oiliness.
I've found some things that are really excellent for my skin. One is Skin Eternal cream. It's at health food stores but you can get it online. It has many of the same ingredients that very, very pricey Sephora brands have--like Dr. Whatshisname that costs a fortune. I think it is fantastic but everyone's skin is different.
It's $22.00 here at this place. I've ordered from them before when they were having a sale. (http://www.allstarhealth.com/li.aspx?B=Skin+Eternal&rt=GgSkinEternal&gclid=CMHDu5GSg44CFReQGgodyxmQLA)
The serum is fantastic but I can't afford that right now. The cream goes a long way.
For toner I just use this rose and glycerin spray from the health food store. It's $3.99 a bottle. It comes in a squirt bottle so you can squirt your face and hydrate in the summer. Glycerin protects the skin.
I'm sort of going for natural/simple these days. Pure olive oil soap. My 'regime' is
Morning: Olive oil soap. If my skin is dull I use some kind of exfoliator like an Olay kind. Sometimes copper serum from platinum skin and Banana Boat SPF 50 if I'm going outside (this new kind that is supposed to block UVA and UVB better.)
Night: Olive oil soap or castor oil first and then an olive oil soap rinse. Then skin eternal cream. Sometimes the rose/glycerin astringent. Body Shop Wise Woman Eye Cream.
One reason for this is just that it is not very expensive. The olive oil soap is only $3.99 a bar that lasts for over a month, the toner is $3.99 a month and the skin eternal cream $22 and it lasts for over a month. The copper serum is expensive but I bought it last year and there's still a lot in it. I do think all these cheaper products work as well as much more expensive products.
My splurge is Body Shop Wise Woman eye cream for around $20 or $25. It was on sale at the airport one time for $7.99. I've always hated Body Shop and the packaging on this is a joke--the eye cream stops coming out after about a week but there is still a ton in the bottle. Using a q-tip it's lasted me for 3 months and still plenty. For some reason, even though Body Shop stuff is usually awful this eye cream is a total miracle for puffiness.

I'm using DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil and I love it. It seems odd to use an oil to cleanse your skin, but it's getting rid of the dry patches, and I haven't noticed any more breakouts than usual. There's no SLS in it, either. For lotion I use Olay Sensitive Skin Complete, which is pretty good. I'll probably switch to a cream when it gets colder, though.

I try to use as much natural products as I can. I liked Burts Bees brands, they have a blemish stick, but I don't like how everything has alcohol. I'm sure it's just alcohol with some natural oils in it. And it didn't really help the blemishes.
I'll do the olive oil soap. MIL bought some from a catalog and I didn't open it yet, but anything for my face! It's breaking out AGAIN!
I ordered some Avon True PoreFection Moisturizer. I need a good moisturizer.
I don't like how all the cleansers have acids or alcohols in it. I don't like that syclic acid or however it's spelled. It's in everything regarding acne. It just feels like I'm burning the bad spots on my face.
miel Do you dab the castor oil on the blemishes/breakouts before soaping up?

I tried Cetaphil, didn't clean so well for me.
I'm glad I'm not crazy! I bought cetaphil cleanser because I heard so many people raving about it and it didn't clean my face at all! I wear very little make-up and it didn't even take it off.
I love my Clean & Clear Oil Free Foaming Facial Cleanser. It removes make-up without over drying my face.

I use Proactiv (but not to remove eye makeup, Dove for that), the cleanser, toner, and cream. Works wonders, and actually did balance out my combination face. They make a moisturizer, IIRC.

I tried proactiv just after I had my DD.
It worked very well....for a while. (I'd say, maybe, 3-4 months)
Then, not so much.
I found it dries out the face way too much.
(I so miss having a soft face. Now its bumpy and oily or bumpy and peeling)
:( (for my pitty party)

Sorry Adaya, I just saw this. I got the almond oil at a GNC and the chickpea flour from the health store. I use the oil because when I put the flour on straight my face turns red and gets really itchy. My face does get a little dry, but overall it works really well for my combo sensitive skin.
When I'm not using this regimen though, I go with Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream (http://www.burtsbees.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10751&storeId=10101&productId=32657&langId=-1&categoryId=&showSubCategory=yes) which works pretty well. I also really like their Rosewater and glycerin toner (http://www.burtsbees.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10751&storeId=10101&productId=17452&langId=-1&categoryId=&showSubCategory=yes).

I have combination skin, when I brake out it's usually in the T-zone area. I have been using Neutragena Oil Free Acne Wash for years but I'm about to change that as it has dried my skin on a few occassions, I then moisturize with Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 30. I also really like the Positively Radiant eye creme. Aveeno products have been very good to me, I tried Mary Kay Timewise Moisturizer and really disliked it.

I thought before I buy some new stuff that everyone has been recommending - I'd use up the stuff that I have
Right now I'm using Merle Norman stuff that I won a while back and forgot I had. So far, so good - but I think the stuff is expensive.
I'm using,
LUXIVA® Foaming Cleanser Normal/Oily morning and night
Toner morning and night
PREVENTAGEâ„¢Firming Defense Creme Normal/Oily morning only
and I also have
MIRACOL creamy revitalizing creme (A mask) that only tried once, but liked
Who knows, if I really like it at the end...I may purchase.
Also, I have some Mario Badescu samples coming in the mail that I'll also try.

I have a question for those who use oil treatments. I tried one this weekend and after I rinsed with the warm water, I still felt like there was a layer of oil on my skin. Is that normal?

Tlew - a little oily, yes, but not terribly so. I do wipe mine off with a pretty warm (maybe even hot) washcloth though, so maybe that's a difference?

I also like the No.7 Night Cream - it's very thick, but not greasy. It's not my primary night cream (clinique moisture surge), but I also don't use it regularly since I have to use topicals for my acne.
My derm suggests using Purpose soap to wash. I don't wear much make up though, so that (or Cetaphil or a freebie bar from Clinique) work just well for me. And I love the Olay cloths for traveling.

I currently use cetaphil as a cleanser, which I love. But I've been really dry lately and my current creams and moisturizers are not working anymore! I try to stick to non-oily or waterbased moisturizers. Any suggestions? I prefer a SPF on for the day and a deep moisturizer for night.
I currently use H2O+ Urban Defense Lotion SPF 30 for the day and Clinique's Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief at night. I think these gel-based moisturizers totally don't work for me. Aveeno's face moisturizers also don't work for me (I've tried them).
TIA!

I've been using the Boots No.7 Time Resist Day Cream, and I like it a lot. Sounds like it's very much in line with the night cream- not greasy, but very moisturizing. I'll have to try it when my current stuff (I forget what it is, but it leaves me feeling oily when I wake up in the morning) runs out. (Which should be soon, thank goodness!)
