My little guy has a bunch of mosquito bites on his belly and hind legs. He is scratching them like mad! Is there anything I can put on him to relieve the itching or to prevent him from getting the bites in the first place?

Thanks!

Benadryl may help with the itching- call your vet for the dosage for your pet's weight.

There are some commercial mosquito repellents you can purchase at the petstore; I've heard Skin so Soft works as well. In addition Advantix is labelled for mosquitoes- this is a product sold through vets.

Don't forget heartworm prevention if you're around lots of mosquitoes!

Poor thing! Maybe you could give him some Benadryl? That might help with the itching. As for topically, I'm not sure what you can put on it. I know you can put Neosporin on animals but that won't help this and I'm not sure about anything else. If you are really worried and don't want to wait until the morning why don't you call an emergency vet's office and ask them what's safe to put on the bites.

Is he on heartworm prevention? They get it from mosquitoes so it's really important. Didn't want to be preachy but some people don't realize it. :)

Oh, looks like I x-posted with Jesvet. :)

Benedryl also has a spray that I carry around with me all the time to control random outbreaks of hives. If the bites are near the face, spray it on a tissue or paper towel first as it stings when it gets into the eyes.

If you're going to use Advantix, be careful if you have cats. Advantix contains pyrethrin which is highly toxic to cats. If you apply it to your dog, make sure the spot dries before allowing your dog and cat to play together, if they do.
