DH and I currently have 2 cats-an 8 year old Calico and a 4 year old gray Tabby. I am thinking of adding a third kitty to our house, but I don't want to traumatize the two we have. Both of our girls saw a kitten while at the vets office a few weeks ago, and Penny was very interested, but didn't hurt the kitten. Patches was laying on the back of the chair and really didn't care about said kitten.

We would go to the same shelter that we got, which is a no-kill shelter.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to do this the right way?

This thread will be helpful for you to read through: Getting your cat to accept a new kitten (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9909)

Thanks for the link:)

I did read the posts, but couldn't really find the info that I was looking for. The cats we have are older, and we would be introducing another older cat into our family, not a kitten. DH and I aren't home enough to get a kitten..hence getting the two that we did.

I might call our vet and see what she thinks:)

Can you take your cats to the shelter and see if they get along? They encourage that at the shelter here to make sure everyone gets along and the new animal doesn't get returned because they don't get along.

Hmm, I'm not sure? We are considering going to the shelter on Saturday morning. I may ask the attendants if they mind. Maybe our cats can pick out their new friend!
