in my dog. What does that mean? My vet was trying to explain it to me, but I'm not sure I followed along very well as my 2 kids were arguing in the background while I was on the phone.

Anyone?

It means he had a kidney/bladder infection and needs medication more than likely. You should call your vet back and get better clarification and pick up whatever medicine he needs.

Our cat had crystals in her urine when she had a kidney infection. She was put on an antibiotic.

Kind of a complicated thing to explain in a post, a lot depends on the exact situation. The best thing to do would be to call back when things are less hectic in the house and ask if the vet or a tech can explain things one more time. They won't mind. :)

Thanks for the responses ladies. She just got over a UTI, and this just showed up in the re-check for that. She's cleared of the UTI, but they don't know if this is something random, or something else. She's going in for another re-check (and her annual shots) on Monday, so hopefully I'll have more answers then.

Sometimes crystals show up in urine just from sitting around waiting for the analysis- so they are probably trying to rule out whether it's that, or the crystals actually formed in her bladder. Good luck!!

Well, we went in on Monday for another urine re-check (along with the annual exam and vax), and again, the lab found tons of crystals in her urine. So we went back today for an in-office recheck of the urine, and our vet only found 1 crystal in the entire sample that they took. All her other bloodwork and stuff came back normal from the lab, so for right now, we're just going to do a recheck in 3 months to look for more/any crystals. I'm fine with this, seeing as all her other lab work came back normal.

We experienced a similar situation with our dog. He had a UTI - then crystals showed up in his labs, inconsistently. One vet wanted to put him on a prescription diet, but our vet felt it was too drastic so she recommended that we buy food that was high in protein (we use Innova) and to supplement the dry food with wet food OR add water to his kibble. Since wet food gives our little guy gas, we opted for water in his kibble.

To date his lab results have come back clean. The vet explained that frequent results showing crystals could be serious so a 3-month recheck will be good.
