View Full Version : Cutco Knives -- anyone?

A family friend recently asked if their son could come by and do a sales presentation for Cutco Knives (http://www.cutco.com/home.jsp). I was told that I shouldn't feel pressured to buy b/c of the friend factor. However, I ended up walking away with a set of pricey knives. Needless to say, DH is not happy and I'm having a bit of a buyers remorse. :o

I know they have a 15 day return policy, but I'm just wondering if anyone here actually has them. If so, what are you thoughts? Love? Hate? Too pricey? Since new knives tend to be very sharp anyway, I just don't think a 15 day trial will be enough for me to know if I want to return them or not.

TIA.

We got some Cutco that were brand new in their box at a house clean out. They are really nice knives and never once did we have to sharpen them, and if you do you send them to Cutco and they sharpen them for you. They are pricey from seeing them on the website, but they really are nice knives with a lifetime guarantee I believe.

I have them and I love them. I've had my trimmers for probably 10 years and they are still my "go to" knives for most things. My chef's knife is probably 5 years old. I have the stone to "sharpen" (not really sharpening...can't remember what it actually does) that one, and I use it pretty frequently.

I've had a partial set for about 10 years (yes, I was one of those salespeople for a few months) and I have yet seen the need to sharpen them. They've held up pretty well, and I like them. Now, would I pay full-price for them? Hmm, don't know. Given how much of a cheapskate I am, probably not.

I LOVE my Cutco knives. I sold them for about a week :D back in college, but decided to pay the extra money to keep the sample set because I liked them so much. I've been hoping some kid selling them will wander up to my door so I can drop my lifesavings to get more of them!

They're fabulous! We tried to sell them back in '93 when we needed extra money. No one bought from us -- but I still have the shears. And, they can still do the "cut a penny" in half routine. I think my mom still has a knife. Cutco is wonderful -- but I agree that is quite pricey.

Thanks everyone for your response. It's really helpful to know how well they hold up after years and years of use.

Thanks to LML41981 for your redirect. I did try a search but didn't come up with that thread for some reason. :(

I wouldn't spend my money on them. I would rather buy Shun knives, but that's just me.

Invest in these piece by piece because they will rock your world...seriously. I am coveting a set.

LOVE THEM!! I too have some buyers remorse after just purchasing the 8pc set but use them and you'll foget all about it!:)
I was soooo very close to buying the large Kitchen $$$ package but knew DH would flip even though he is wowed by the steak knives. I only wish he had seen the demo....he would have impulsivly went for the whole set too!;)
