View Full Version : HELP! My spaghetti straps won't stay up!

Here's the deal... I'm in my brother's wedding in less than 2 weeks, and my dress has spaghetti straps. I've had the dress altered, but because I'm large chested, they had to order a larger size and bring it in... and because of the way it had to be altered, the straps are way out on my shoulder blades. It isn't that they need to be shortened, they don't (they're borderline too tight as it is, per my request). However, they keep sliding off, because they are placed so far out... and they can't be moved, because the cut of the fabric makes that impossible.
Does anyone know of anything that I could use to keep these straps in place? I was thinking double sided tape, but that would show with these straps. Is there anything I can put on my skin to make it stickier?
Thanks!

There is a clear tape that you can use on yourself to hold something up. I don't recommend it however. I did that and ended up with sores. :(
Can you take a picture? That might give me some ideas.
What about that body glue they use to keep lowcut dresses on? Or that sock glue. You could apply a really thin line exactly where the strap is.

That body glue stuff is exactly what tore my skin off.
Ohh, I thought it was tape.
This one in Amazon has good reviews:

you could always test it beforehand in a really small area.

That looks different than what I used. But, I agree - testing a small area before hand is probably a good idea! I don't have sensitive skin, but still had issues.
basically, you could have the dress altered again - this time, have them bring the back of the straps in towards the middle of your back and you should be fine. This should be super easy to do and quite inexpensive. I'm surprised they didn't do this when they altered the dress the first time considering this is such a common complaint with spaghetti straps and it's such a simple fix.

I've use this stuff called Hollywood fashion tape in the past with great results. I got it at BBB by the register and it worked great. I had no reaction to it and I have very sensitive skin.

I wholeheartedly agree with this - no matter how detailed the top of the dress is, if it's got an outdside and a lining, it should be super easy to open up that seam and stick them over 1/2" or something.
My only other suggestion is if you have a thin strap bra (being a big bb girl myself, I know that's probably unlikely :p) where the straps could lie under the straps of the dress, you could tack the two together.

Thanks for all of your responses, ladies. I'll see if I can get a picture. I'm wearing a strapless longline bra, so I can't tack the straps together. The way the dress is, the fabric goes up to meet the strap (think a very shallow "u" shape), so we can't just move the straps over... because the fabric wouldn't line up and it would look very strange. I'll check out that stuff on amazon, but I wanted to know if anyone had experience with specific products. Thanks for your input, Jennylou.
