I made chocolate chip cookies last night but only baked a fraction of the dough. The rest is in the fridge to be divided up into smaller portions and frozen so we can have fresh baked cookies on demand. The recipe is time-tested (my mom used to make it when I was a kid) and I've made it myself before. However, this time something went awry. The cookies that I baked came out a little flat and maybe even grainy. They taste alright & my husband doesn't really mind, but I was going to take the ones I already baked to my book club today & they're really not fit for public display! Any guesses as to what I did wrong?

Thanks!

ETA: I should have also said that I reread the recipe and I can't think of an ingredient that skipped. I very well could have mis-measured something though.

And I also should have said that the second part of my question is whether there's anything I can do to save the portion of the dough that's in my fridge. Is it too late to add *something* to it so that the rest bakes up nicely?

I have no expert advice, but I have had that happen to me before, and, like you, I had done everything the way I always do it. I always use the recipe on the back of the nestle bag, but every now and agin I find I get flat cookies. I have no clue what you could add, so if it were me I'd toss the left over and start again.

How old is the baking powder/soda that you used? If it wasn't really fresh, that could effect the appearance of the cookies.

Butter that's too warm/soft or creamed too long can cause flat cookies, but I'm not sure about the graininess.
