I was sent a video of Al Gore that took place in 1992 while he was running for VP criticizing the first Bush for not going after Iraq and Saddam. Has anyone else seen this or know more about it? I'd like to see it in full to put it in complete context.

Here is the video I was sent:

First off, no I did not see the whole speech and remember the context. I have no idea if he's providing insight or is just playing politics. I also don't remember if his comments were fairly unique or he was one of many saying the same thing for whatever motivation, political or otherwise.

All that aside, though...honestly, in hindsight he's right. Many Iraqis were ready to join our soldiers and help fight for a new Iraq, but then Bush Sr. left Saddam in power. Saddam then slaughtered all those who were ready to join the Americans. So a decade later Bush Jr. goes into Iraq, removes Saddam and expects the bulk of Iraqis to join the stabilization effort. However, these people don't have short memories. They remember being left out to hang by Bush Sr. so were extremely hesitant to join the current fight. The current struggle to encourage the common Iraqi to fight for their freedom has plenty to do with Bush Sr.

Honestly, this video is from 1992. As you know, I am very much against the war in Iraq and have been all along. However, Bush Sr. really SHOULD have finished the job during the FIRST war in Iraq...the Persian Gulf War. We COULD have taken out Saddam way back then and we SHOULD have, but didn't. And yes, we really COULD have taken him out then, and we could have done it a few years ago WITHOUT getting into a bloody and pointless war. The CIA has had many covert operations throughout history and have successfully overthrown governments and assassinated leaders around the world many times before. If they really wanted to, the CIA could have gone into Iraq, overthrown the government, and even convinced many people that the Iraqis THEMSELVES did it! But no, we had to waste trillions of tax dollars on a really stupid war and lose hundreds of thousands of lives in the meantime.

Aside from that, why is Bin Laden STILL alive? I don't buy it for one fricking minute that the CIA or the Bush administration does not know where the guy is! What a crock! I think they know EXACTLY where he is! Heck, the Bush family is friends with the Bin Ladens! I just think it's a little preposterous that we are told how very dangerous Bin Laden and al-Quaida are, yet WHEN the hell do we EVER even hear about this? I mean, other than the sort of predictable every year or so tape that somehow emerges from Bin Laden in a cave "somewhere". Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. They CAN'T figure out where he is based on the stupid tape? Uh huh. Yet ALL we heard about for I don't know HOW long was Iraq and these alleged WMDs. Um, okay. Well, Saddam was finally found hidden in some hole with a bunch of candy bars and undies and now the man is dead. Yep, dead. We all had to see the really disgusting footage of his neck getting snapped off by a rope.

As far as Gore or Hilary or any other Democrats in 1992 or 2002 being in favor of invading Iraq...well...either (in some cases) they've been brainwashed and lied to, it was well over 10 years ago and the circumstances were completely different then, and/or they are in bed with the Republicans and both parties are essentially the same and really hypocritical. Regardless of what ANY politician has EVER said about Iraq, it was a really stupid mistake and a complete waste of my tax dollars for America to invade that country a second time. Aside from my many reasons for feeling that way, I think our military could have been put to better use. Seriously...find Bin Laden FIRST!

Interesting...I remember his decision to NOT go into Iraq as being very popular. But that is most likely my brain playing tricks on me.
