View Full Version : Rosie O'Donnell as host of Price Is Right

I just read that Rosie O'Donnell is in talks with producers of The Price is Right to become the next host. Personally, I prefer George Hamilton, based solely on the fact that he reminds of Bob Barker. I grew up with The Price Is Right. I watched it with my mom on sick days from school and through the summer. I became quite good at guessing prices. :)
Considering Rosie's controversary and her View exit it just seems like having her as the host would not be a wise choice but what do I know.
What are your thoughts?
FTR, I like Rosie and I enjoyed the Rosie O'Donnell show when it aired.

I'm not crazy about her, but I honestly don't think she would be great for the show.

The only problem I see is she'll want to give the cars and big prizes to the losers as well.

I think she is completely wrong for the show. I can't imagine it working out for the long term.

I used to love her show, but I don't think she's right for The Price is Right at all. Not that the show will ever be the same without Bob Barker, but I just think having her as the host would be TOO different.

I guess I am in the minority but I can't stand Rosie O'Donnell. I don't get to watch the PIR since I work full time but when I am home I used to always watch. If she was the host I would not watch.

I haven't watched TPIR in a long time, but she doesn't seem like a good fit to me. Then again, that could be because I can't stand her. I wouldn't watch, but I don't watch now, so it really makes no difference to me.

I think they should just cancel the show. Let it go with Barker.

Her voice is like nails on a blackboard to me, no matter what she's actually saying. Ugh. I wish she'd just go away.

I can't stand her. I won't watch, if she is the host. Granted, she won't be spewing her opinions all over the place and she won't be bullying the contestants (well, hopefully ;) )... I still can't stomach her.
Oh I think it would be fun to have her as host. I'd watch it if she were...not that I'm ever home then!

Exactly! She'd want to give hints to the contestants to try to help them pick the correct option. I loved "The Rose O'Donnell Show" years ago, but now she's too well known for her opinions and politics rather than wanting to give people prizes. I just don't know if she'd be a good fit.

Rosie is a born game show host, and the producers of TPIR know that she is a super hot commodity at the moment. With all of the attention they are getting this year with Bob's retirement, I think it was a wise move on their part to get her (if it works out that way, that is).
If she can just stick to giving swag away, I think it will be fine.
You know the ratings would go through the roof the first month or so, just because people will be tuning in just to see her and what she "may" say.....

If the producers are smart, they should have some kind of clause in her contract prohibiting her from acting out like she did in the View (no abusing staff too like she did at her magazine). They should also refuse to hire that stupid assistant of hers who defaced EH's pic in the ABC offices.
I think she would do ok as host if they hemmed her in. Would she get rid of the Barker Beauties?

I love PIR, but I would not enjoy my show with Rosie as the host. I used to enjoy her, but she has gotten a bit political for me. I can see her giving the prizes to people anyways since they were "close." I am sure she would get rid of the Beauties.
NO NO NO Ro for me.

If I did watch the show, I'd have to keep the TV on mute with Rosie on there. Not a good fit for TPIR, IMO.
CBS should just air reruns of TPIR. Personally, I think it would be funny to see 1970s and 1980s cars on there again to see how much they went for. :)

ITA! I'm still not over the loss of Rod and Holly..:(. With no Bob, I say shut it down. As to Rosie, I don't know. I used to really like her and I loved her talk show, but she's too loud and political now. If she could tone it down and just host the show, then I don't think it would be too bad. I still won't watch, so it doesn't really matter.

She would be way too over the top for the show. She was fine on her show when she was the focus, but I think the contestants should be the focus of this show.
I think she would do well. The View has a place to talk about politics, TPIR doesn't so it wouldn't be the same.
George Hamilton really annoys me. He would drive me crazy.

Ditto...plus, as for giving away prizes, all the game shows have to follow rules, so it wouldn't be up to her to give stuff away. I doubt she'd be able to make major changes, like ditching the spokesmodels. I think she'd be back to perky happy Rosie, as she used to be on her show. The View is all about arguing and sharing one's opinions, so Rosie's behavior went with the territory.

I don't think it would be a good move. Rosie is (sorry, but gotta be honest here) frumpy, outspoken, rude and thinks everyone should accept what she does and thinks even if they don't agree with her... and, if you don't, screw you. I don't want to watch that type of person... specifically her, anymore. Most especially on a show that I watched as a "comfort show" when I was home sick from school. Bob Barker was the host my ENTIRE life!! I'm going to miss him, even though I (too) haven't watched TPIR in years.
I enjoyed "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" until she started going over the top with the Tom Cruise adoration after THE meeting. The "countdown" was funny, but then she just didn't know when to quit (sound familiar?). Every other segment you had "Tommy, can you hear me" blaring on the set. Very annoying, and it finally made me stop taping it.
Awww, I used to share her Tommy crush. He wasn't so weird back then.

Barker: Remarks Not a Rosie Endorsement (http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=266401&mpc=2)
It may have sounded like an endorsement, but Bob Barker's recent remarks about Rosie O'Donnell weren't meant that way. "The Price Is Right" host, who retired this month after 35 years with the show, told reporters last week at the Daytime Emmy Awards that he had "no doubt" that O'Donnell would make a fine host for the CBS game show.
But Barker told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he never meant to endorse any potential host and has no role in choosing his replacement.
Interesting...it sounded like an endorsement to me but I guess not!

Rosie Won't Go West for "Price" (http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/21/paris-getting-1-million-to-gab-on-today/)
Rosie O'Donnell has her big meeting with CBS execs about the "Price is Right" hosting gig, but the whole thing might be moot because Rosie doesn't want to schlep to L.A. to do the show. FOX News reports that the cross-country travel could be the deal-breaker, though she might be able to do all her shows in one four-day fell swoop every month.
Well I hope they don't cave and move the show to NY!

I doubt I'd watch Rosie on the show. She would be awful for the show worrying more about herself. She would ruin the show.

They have to have PIR in the Bob Barker studio. I doubt they will move the show to NY.
I also heard Drew Carey was being considered. I think he'd be a good choice.

Rosie has turned dwon the job since they would not agree to tape four shows in one day. Rosie does not want to move her family from NYC to California.
She had to have known that they would not move the show for her. I think she just missed hearing about herself in the news.

Rosie says she won't replace Bob Barker
from Yahoo.com
NEW YORK - Rosie O'Donnell says she's out of the running to replace Bob Barker as host of "The Price Is Right." O'Donnell, a superfan of the CBS game show, said on her blog Friday that she had a "nice lunch" with the show's producers.

Barker, 83, retired earlier this month after 35 years with the show, which is filmed in Los Angeles.
Although O'Donnell has said she would love to fill Barker's shoes, the 45-year-old comedian has changed her mind.

Last week I watched an old rerun of Intimate Portrait that featured Rosie O'Donnell. It went up to when she had retired from the Rosie O'Donnell Show. I forgot how much I really used to like her (ok at one point the Tommy bit was over done). Its really sad that she's turned into this bitter and divisive personality. In another lifetime she could have been a great choice for Price is Right but I think she's closed that door forever.

Yay! The show is saved. I really really detest Rosie. /rant. Her voice is grating, she way to opinionated/political/closed minded to anyone who does not share her POV, and frankly she is a really jerk according to those who have had run ins with her. My sis went on a Rosie cruise and she and Kelly were really jerks (putting it nicely) to people. It turned alot of loyal fans off to her according to her. /rant
I love the idea of reruns. Now that I would make sure I tuned in to when home.

Very interesting. Did your sis actually meet her? I have a friend who was in the audience of The View during her run and she said Rosie, while she was spouting a lot of political stuff during the commericals, also came into the audience and posed for pictures, gave hugs etc and was the only host to do so. I wonder if that was all an act?

CBS Turned Down Rosie O'Donnell's Offer to Host Price is Right (http://community.tvguide.com/blog/TVGuide-News-Blog/Tv-Guide-News/800046225)
Despite earlier reports that Rosie O’Donnell declined the opportunity to host the Price Is Right because she didn’t want to uproot her family from New York City to L.A., the truth is CBS turned her down. “They thought I was too controversial to host the game show,” O’Donnell said on her R Family Vacations cruise from New York to the Bahamas. “I just wanted to ‘gay it up.’” So what did O’Donnell propose? For starters, she wanted to get rid of Barker’s beauties in favor of chorus line of Broadway hunks, confetti, musical bumpers and a much-needed set makeover “so the colors actually match!” O’Donnell admits she was disappointed by the network’s decision because she began watching the game show shortly after her mother died 35 years ago.
Uh huh, just as I suspected, she wanted to ruin the institution that is PIR! I'm glad CBS came to their senses! If they hired her and they implemented the changes, this will send Bob Barker to his grave!

The fact that the set colors don't "match" are part of its charm. I hope they find someone really outstanding to hots the game show. I don't know who I'd like to see though.

Sorry - I just saw this. Yes, she ran into Rosie and Kelly on the ship. From what I understand, they kept people away from them, were really rude when people were able to appraoach them, and did not sign autographs, etc. The Rosie you described is what they were expecting. They got a celebrity on a private vacation instead.

The "Price Is Right" for Drew Carey! (http://www.tmz.com/2007/07/23/the-price-is-right-for-drew-carey/)
Comedian Drew Carey confirmed to David Letterman today that he is indeed going to take over for Bob Barker as host of "The Price Is Right."
In a taping for tonight's episode of "The Late Show," Carey told Dave, "It's a done deal. I'm the new host of "The Price Is Right.'"
Well, I can live with Drew! So glad it's not Ian Ziering (cheesy) or the Entertainment Tonight guy.

Drew certainly wasn't the worst of the picks, but still, i don't think he'd be the best.
When i went to the show (and got called to c'mon down but didn't make it up there since i was the very last person), there was this guy that led each and every group all they way through to when we got in the studio- his name is Chuck. I thought that he would have been perfect since any of the fans that were able to make it to the show would have known him.
Ah well....we shall see!
