New NBC Boss Courting Jon Stewart (http://buzzsugar.com/324988)
NBC's new head of programming, Ben Silverman, recently wined and dined Jon Stewart and his agent, saying that if everyone's favorite "news"man ever became free, he'd be interested in doing business.
What do other fans of The Daily Show think of the idea of Jon Stewart moving to network television?
I hate the idea. For starters, he *is* TDS. And there is no way network tv will allow him to do his thing the way Comedy Central does. It is the opposite situation, but look what happened to Bill Maher? ABC gave him the boot because he was too out there. Which is funny, because I personally thought he was really watered down then. But now on HBO he's awesome and has the freedom to do his thing.
Hopefully Jon's not even considering such a move. I hope not!

No way! If Jon Stewart ever left the Daily Show, it would die.
I have mixed feelings. I would hate for him to miss a chance at something so huge and I feel like he can't stay at TDS forever but I think NBC would take the funny out of Jon. I also think no matter what he does it won't have the same magic as TDS.
He's so funny and I would like him to go on and have great opportunities but I'm selfish too.

Yeah, but I care more about JS than TDS.

I like the irreverent Jon Stewart, any show he did would be very different on network TV.

I'm selfish about it, too, Rose. :D

I don't think Jon Stewart would be the same on network TV, but the Daily Show existed before Jon Stewart hosted it, (Craig Kilborn, anyone?) and it would likely continue if he left.

They'd censor him up the whazoo and destroy his entire concept. Not a good idea.

No, no, absolutely NO! It would just be another Politically Incorrect. :(

No way! I don't think he'd do it, either. It would pretty much go against everything he's against.

Ugh...he'd be reined in too tightly and wouldn't be able to be himself. It would suck.

Yeah, but who watched it then?
I went to see a taping of TDS way back in Jon Stewart's first or second season. Then, you could call up and just pick a date for tickets. Then, it got huge. I haven't been able to get tickets since.
Jon Stewart made TDS what it is. Network TV would kill it.
Let's start a petition! :D

Exactly. Before Jon, TDS was "eh" at best.
My only concern for Jon is that I don't see him staying at TDS for more than a few more years and I would hate to see have missed a huge chance.
Selfishly, I'd hate to see him got to HBO or Showtime since I never subscribe.

You make a good point, Rose. It's not realistic to expect him to do the same show for the rest of his career, much as we might like him to.
If only we could get him to do podcasts for CC. For free. We'd all be happy.
