Lovelife: So we're in the same boat! Thank goodness! I tried putting her down drowsy last night and it didn't work. I was up and down like a jack in the box with her so I finally relented and let her fall asleep on my chest. Oh well, tonight is another night. Lilliana is so adorable!
BrownEyedGirl: What a cute announcement! Kieran is so handsome. Melia hardly has a peaceful look when she's asleep, she always looks annoyed or like this (this is after a blowout, and yes she's asleep!):

Bibay - Melia is cute. Yes we call Lilli a little drama queen at times because she is so dramatic about everything. For example she sneezes then lets out this big sigh afterwards. The morning nap worked yesterday for 2 and half hours, the evening one yesterday did not work at all (DH held her until I put her to bed for the night). Right now she has been napping for almost 1 hour - it took me again 4 times of consoling. Also for the car seat Lilli will sit in it not strapped in around the house (like when i go to the bathroom) without screaming I hope it will desensitize her little by little* add - woke up at 1 hour and 15 minutes and is now laying in crib trying to find her thumb*
Browneyedgirl - cute announcements, Kieran does look so peaceful he's adorable
Lisa - Great job on the weight loss (I'm very jealous - I lost only 15 and 15 more to go to get to PP lb then another 10 on top of that to get to my ideal weight)
Our announcements we ordered from lilsproutsgreetings.com (we got a gc for this place so our first choice was scratched) http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w268/Lovelifelivelove/lillianaprooftoshare.jpg

Hey all!
Everyone's kiddos / announcements look great. Can't believe all of our kiddos are more than a month old already - where has the time gone?
We were back at the ped today so Seth could get his Hep B vaccine -he;s up to 9 lbs 14 oz and 22 1/2 inches! (50% weight / 75% height) - he gained 22 ounces in the last 17 days, so I guess eating around the clock (seemingly) has done him well. The dr. also said he has colic :( which explains the fussiness / eating so often. She suggested we try gripe water so we've got to find some around here. We are also picking up a Miracle Blanket this weekend to see if it makes a difference (thanks for the rec Kym). I wanted to get it last weekend but we didn't make it out of the house!
QOTD re: carseat - 90% of the time he screams when put in (only didn't scream one time when it was right after eating)- but usually calms down in the car - thankfully! -but I don't want to jinx anything. Today we actually left for the dr. appt early just so I could drive with him to calm him down. Of course, usually as soon as the car stops, the crying commences
Hope everyone has a good weekend. My mom and grandma are coming down tomorrow for a couple of hours to see Seth -they haven't seen him since his bris when he was 8 days old (so almost 5 weeks ago) - I swear it doesn't feel like it has been that long - I don't know where the time has gone!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Quick post...again!
I think Aiden is getting a cold again! The waether down here is yucky, I think he has allergies, like his brother:(
Side note, thanks for the blanket recommendation Kym, Aiden slept 5.5hours straight last night! for him thats huge. Its usually 3 or so and if it more he was sleeping on me! Dh likes it now too;)

I think Madeline is officially sleeping through the night. The past 3 nights she slept for at least 7 hours straight. Of course then she wakes up and wants to eat for an hour.. but hey that's fine with me. I don't know what to do with myself I feel so rested! Please keep it up Madeline. Mommy couldn't stand it if you went back to your old ways after sleeping so well.

Okay, so daddy is holding Kieran right now so I can do a proper post.
carseat...he used to hate getting put in his carseat, but then we would swing him and he'd be just fine. Now he doesn't really put up much fuss when we put him in...and as long as he's moving he doesn't fuss, and usually falls asleep.
blow outs...Kieran hasn't had too many bad blow outs. I guess this morning he had a pretty good one that reached up to his shoulders...luckily daddy was with him and he cleaned it all up :D
work out...If sitting on the rocking chair eating snacks all day long is working out, then yes I am working my butt off...if not, then nope nothing other than going for a walk on the nice days. I'm using the fact that I haven't had my 6 week check up yet, so I don't know if I'm cleared for exercise :o I really do need to work out though, my body is just nasty right now.
Robyn & love ...your announcement are both so cute
Bibay...Melia is so incredibly cute! That face is just adorable!
Katie...wow, I can't believe Madeline is sleeping through the night already. Lucky Duck!!
Well, daddy got Kieran to sleep, so I think we are going to take a nap.
Toodles, hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.

Hooray!! :D Another mommy who got some rest!! We are on a roll with Kristianna; I think its 9 or 10 nights straight that she's slept from 9 to 5 or 6 in the morning. Now if only I didn't have to wake up for a 3 a.m. pumping session....:p
Katie&Micah
08-26-2007, 04:44 PM
kym..
eventually you should be able to go longer w/o pumping. i've just gotten to the point where i can go 7 or 7 1/2 hours at night w/o pumping. then i get up and pump out 8 or 9oz and by the time i'm done with that maddy wakes up and I feed and change her. it's sooo nice to get those solid chunks of sleep. i was getting up twice a night to pump but eventually my body just got used to longer stretches. and so far it hasn't really affected my supply. sorry about no caps.. i've got a baby on one arm and i'm doing this one handed.

how much do your babys fuss/cry?
Katie&Micah
08-27-2007, 11:43 AM
QOTD
Not too much really. I can usually tell when she's about to start fussing and do whatever she wants before it gets to that point. Some days she fusses every time I put her down and eventually I just have to give in and carry her or put her in the sling. But for the most part she's pretty content as long as I feed her.
BrownEyedGirl

lucky duck. Kieran has been so fussy lately. He's either fussing, screaming, eating or sleeping. He's hardly ever just awake and content.
Katie&Micah
08-27-2007, 03:36 PM
She's good most of the time.. but it makes it even more crappy when she's bad because I'm not used to it.
Could it be the growth spurt that's making him so fussy? Maddy was really bad for both the 3 week and the 6 week.

QOTD:
Eli usually only cries if he is hungry or needs changing...we have had one or two episodes where he is very fussy, but normally he is pretty predictable and we can give him what he needs. Eli is into his 6 week growth spurt, he is eating for about 10 minutes every hour and a half to two hours like clockwork. Come on week 7!!

Add me to that crew - DH is about to hand fussy baby back to me. Still need to get the Miracle Blanket to see if it helps at night - and our doc suggested gripe water for him as well. (she says he has colic)
ok - fussy - crying baby - gotta go!

So now I really understand the saying "misery loves company". I never thought I'd be so happy to hear about fussy babies...but it makes me feel so normal now! Here's to hoping they settle down soon.
Robyn...I have a $5 off coupon code for the miracle blanket. PM me if you want it. Kieran has slept 5+ hours at night since using the MB (fusses at first, then settles down and is out for the count)

Lauren..
One of my journal buddies actually did the announcements for me. I just had to find a company to print them.. They cost something like $14.50 including shipping.
I know.. she's just gotten so HUGE since she was born. I'm a bit sad over that. I want her to stay tiny forever!!
I'm really pleased with the bedding. It's soooo comfy cozy. I want to steal it from the crib and use it myself. Am I allowed to do that if we co-sleep? I can pretend it's really for her (even though not one bit of it will be on her)..lol

Katie - I hear you on wanting the baby to be small forever. At first I wanted her to get bigger but now she is growing so fast, the only good thing is that she has diffeent outfits to wear. Maddie is so much bigger now and cute announcements and blanket!
Crying, fussy babies - Add me to the list. Lilli is usually predictable for the reasons, the two big ones are doesn't want us to put her down to sleep and can't get her thumb the right way occassionally we aren't holding her the right way (blocking her view of something) I love when she starts fussing during a diaper change then proceeds to pee it's like she is warning me!

QOTD Most of the time they only really cry when they are hungry. They fuss a bit more now though, generally if they are tired but won't sleep for whatever reason.
DH's stepmom sent us a Bumbo seat, and I think it's going to be a hit. Check it out.
Megan was pretty excited to try it out.

I am so behind! We went out of town for a few days last week then switched internet companies so we just got internet back last night. This thread has gotten busy since then! We went to the dr today for a well baby appt...here are the stats!
birth-7lbs 9ozs----6wks-10lbs 11ozs(75% percentile)
birth-21 inches----6wks-23 inches(90% percentile)
He is getting so big!! The dr. told us he thinks he will be a big baby always which we figured cuz his daddy was!
QOTD's
How many blow-puts have you had the pleasure of cleaning up? Just one! and it wasn't really bad!
Have you all started working out again? I keep saying I am going to go walk but it just won't cool down enough for me too. I will though soon(i think:))
Does anyone have/ had pain in their tailbone from labor?nope. I hope yours gets better.
carseat-He has a love/hate relationship with it. Sometimes we love it, sometimes we hate it. I wish I could predict which would be which too! I cried yesterday on the way to my dr. appt because he was so upset back there.
Miracle Blanket-We have a Bobby swaddle blanket and have used it since about 4 days old. We have always had 3-4 hours stretchs of sleep at night. If it ever quits working or he learns to break out of it(it doesn't have the arm things) we will upgrade to the Miracle blanket. I couldn't live without a swaddle blanket. My MIL says we tie him up! Hey whatever works. Last night he slept from 9:30-5 for the first time though! Woohoo! Each night seems to get better with a bad night thrown in here or there.
Fussy-He can be very fussy normally though this is when he is tired and refuses to sleep. This happens during the day but I refuse to swaddle him during the day because well that is our night thing. So we deal with it! Rocking and nursing/binkie normally get him to sleep eventually.
Everyone-The pictures are awesome! Everyone has such cute babies. I have some pics on photobucket but when I put them on here they are huge. How can I fix this so you guys can see some pics of Blake?

LDS~ I actually put Eli in his bumbo today, he hated it...he's still too little but i wanted to see him in it anyway ;)
To any of you who are still Bfing exclusivley, How are you doing? I think that Eli is going through a 6 week growth spurt, but he is killingme...I feel like he could rip my nipple off at any moment. He is eating every hour and a half to two hours, and my nipples are killing me...they are so sore...Just wonderingif anyone else is having this problem. I know that people say that after 6 weeks its supposed to get better...I hope thats the truth...:o

lol.. you're right about the outfits. Madeline is still in newborn outfits and I'm just DYING for her to move up to the 0-3 months stuff before winter comes. Alot of it is summery stuff. But then can't she stay there forever?
Michelle
The girls look so darn cute! I cannot believe how well they are sitting up. You're making me want one of those. Think how useful that's going to be for you when you move to solids. If you had 2 you could feed them both at once.

Wow! What a big boy! Our pediatrician only does 2 week and then 2 month well baby visits. So I'm really anxious to find out how much she's gained/grown. Of course they couldn't get us in for our 2 month visit until she's 11 weeks.. so we still have a whole month left before I find out.
The heat has been sooo much better down here in the mornings. Micah and I have been walking with Madeline and the dog every morning at 7:30 or 8:00. I hope it cools down for you soon so you can get out. Maddy loves being in her stroller.
I'm not sure how to make the pics smaller.. but I hope someone else can tell you because I'd love to see more pics.
Lauren
I'm breastfeeding AND pumping and my nipples are more sore from the pump than her I think. It doesn't help that there is something attached to them allllll day long. I'm with you.. I'm waiting for this to get easier.
QOTD:
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
If I could and if dh would agree I would get pregnant in a few more months. But since I had a c-section my dr. wants me to wait at least a year. I'm kind of bummed about that. But I don't really enjoy the thought of hemorrhaging because I didn't give my body time to heal.
QOTD:
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
if history repeats itself, it wont be long:p Ideally if we have another one we will probably wait a year or so.
I'm so jealous of all you getting more than 5 hours of sleep!
Aiden is EBF and is a total pig. If I let him he eat every hour for 20 minutes. this last 2 weeks only he has gained a little over a lb.

it took us 18 months, including 2 m/cs and fertility meds to get Eli, so we dont want to wait to long, but we will probably start to try again when Eli is a little over a year old.

Katie yeah, we are totally getting a second Bumbo. You can find them for cheap on ebay.
QOTD: How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
Haha. I know a lot of people with twins would never even consider that question. Even more people who spent two months in a hospital. So I'm probably crazy, but we do want more kids. Ideally, I'd get pregnant again when the girls are about 4. (We're thinking Septemberish 2011.) Then if it's not twins again, have #5 when #4 is about 18 months old. That way they can be somewhat close and feel less 'left out' that they don't have a twin, lol.

We haven't decided. We have been polling our friends and family with kids on what they think a good age range is:p. I am getting an IUD next week though and will get it out when we decide to start trying.
What method of BC does everyone plan on using?
Katie-I was so excited to find out what he weighed everyone kept asking. We go back again on Oct 9th for shots and another checkup. It might be cooler here in the mornings but I am never up..we sleep in together in bed.:D

For me, this is a tough question. DH & I are very torn. Quite honestly, my c-section experiece was so hideous that I have nightmares about it. I almost have a panic attack just thinking about going thru that again. :( And dh and I feel like we've aged 10 years since she was born; thanks to the constant fussing, screaming, non-stop eating, digestive issues and so on, not to mention the sleep deprivation and the lack of any time for ourselves. Quite frankly, parenthood has been 1000% harder than what we ever dreamed it would be.
But.....I also know how much it means to me to have a sister and its very hard to think about depriving Kristianna of the gift of a sibling. Plus, only children count on pretty much just the parents as their sole source of entertainment. You aren't just a parent to an only child, you are their playmate as well. So yeah...we are stuck on what to do here. {sigh}

Melia update: Good news! We had an orthopedic consult today and it seems that her hip dysplacia has self resolved and she will not have to wear a harness! I psyched myself up to accept the fact she may have the same condition I had as an infant. I even tried to feel positive that the harnesses nowadays actually looked cute now that they also came in light pink LOL. But I'm relieved that she doesn't have to wear it now.
Anyone express breastfeeding?: Melia never latched on well and we got used to pumping and feeding via bottle. It worked out better for us.
Are your babies getting chunky?! What size clothing are they fitting? Melia is chubby wubby and she's outgrown certain onesies and is fitting into 6 month sized clothes in some brands! Goodness, I'm going out to buy her bigger onesies for everyday wear!
Fussiness: Add us to the list! It's good to hear we're not the only ones. Sometimes being stuck at home, we feel like we are the only ones with the fussy baby!
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?: Maybe three years. This is mainly for financial reasons... plus it has been so easy for us this time around, that I'm kinda dreading an opposite kind of pregnancy/delivery/baby for the next!
What method of BC does everyone plan on using? I got on the mini-pill but I'm getting an IUD placed next month. I'm usually great at taking pills, but since baby throws me "off" schedule, I'm deathly afraid of missing a pill and "oops" here we go again LOL!
Katie: Maddy is adorable in her six week pix. Are you like me, trying to get a pix of baby in her cute clothes before they outgrow them?! DH makes fun of me for running to get the camera for every cute outfit she wears LOL!
LDS: Oh the kiddos look so cute in their bumbo. I forget they are a few weeks older than Melia. I put her into her bumbo every week to see if she can handle it, but she's still working on her neck muscles.

I'm so glad Melia's hip problem corrected itself!!! That is such good news!!
Actually.. I feel like we have 10 million pics of her in each outfit. I didn't buy any newborn stuff until after she was born because we thought she was going to be a really big baby. And then we only bought 8 outfits (we've since been given a couple more) because I thought she would outgrow them quickly. Here she is 7 weeks old and I'd say we still have 2 more weeks in the newborn size outfits. It will be SOOOO glad to move onto the 0-3 month stuff. I'm tired of looking at the same stuff over and over and we have SO many clothes for her in the larger sizes I want her to get to wear some of it before the season changes.
QOTD
Does anyone else have a really long thin baby? What the heck are you going to do about clothing??
Madeline has really chunky legs and arms, but her torso is really thin. We've been wearing the newborn clothes since birth and she's WELL within the weight range for 0-3 month stuff but it looks ridiculous on her. The problem is that she's starting to outgrow the dresses and onesies length wise. I can barely get some of them buttoned anymore. I don't know what in the world is going on since no one in our family is particularly tall. Any suggestions?
QOTD #2
Has anyone found any great infant Halloween costumes?
I'm still looking, haven't found anything I love yet.

and Kym.. can I just say your birth story scared the crap out of me! I'm soooo soooo sorry for what you went through.
You reminded me that I haven't really mentioned what happened to me in this thread. Cross-posted from the C-section mamas thread:
Well, before the c-section itself actually took place, the whole experience started badly with a traumatic IV insertion. The first nurse tried on the left arm, and immediately missed and said she blew right through the vein. Then a second nurse tried in the same arm and the vein rolled away. A third nurse was called in and stuck in my right arm and after much digging around, got it in. I was hysterical at that point and bawling my eyes out, and sweating so much that they had to use like a pound of surgical tape to keep the IV in place once they had it in.
The epidural was a nightmare. Remember, I wasn't in labor, so no contractions to take my mind off of the actual insertion of the needle. The lidocaine was administered via a smaller needle, and it hurt so bad that I nearly came off of the table. DH was standing outside of the operating room and could hear me crying from out there. After the lidocaine, they tried to insert the actual epidural needle and I completely freaked out. I could feel immense pain and pressure, even with the lidocaine. So they gave me more of that and then tried again. My surgery ended up starting nearly a half hour later than scheduled thanks to that mess.
Recovery. Was. A. Bitch. Where do I start? Lets see....I ended up swelling up like a friggin' balloon in my hands, fingers, legs and feet thanks to all of the IV fluids that were pumped into me. The carpal tunnel syndrome that I had all through my pregnancy worsened by about a 1000% for the remainder of that day plus the next day as well. Literally, I couldn't hold my daughter safely because my hands and fingers were so numb.
I ended up having a bad reaction to one of the pain meds that was being given to me through my IV. Severe itching all over my body, but mainly concentrated in my lower body. I just about gouged myself open scratching my lower legs, thighs and buttocks. They kept giving me Bendadry though my IV to counteract this, but it didn't do much to relieve the itching, just basically made me so stoned that I couldn't even speak or function.
On Day 2, the itching and Benadryl doses contined unabated. Then, I kept feeling a trickling sensation in the epidural site. I kept telling my sister that I felt something leaking and she got scared that it was spinal fluid. She took a look for herself and immediately called for a nurse. Two nurses came in, took one look, and called for the anasthesologist. At this point, I'm panicking because nobody is telling me a damn thing. Turns out that the epidural catheter was slipping out on its own, which explains why I kept feeling that trickling sensation. So because of that and the itching I was experiencing, the doctor made the decision to pull my epidural out early. At that point, I agreed because of how bad the itching was. BIG MISTAKE!! Once the medication fully wore off, I was in so much pain that I couldn't move. It was horrible. Really horrible. They kept giving me Lortab and Ibuprofen, and it did eventually make a dent in the pain, but the first four hours or so after the epidural came out were almost unbearable.
And lets not leave out the constipation issues that I ended up with. TMI coming up....I didn't have a bowel movement for six days. The hospital kept giving me stool softeners, when what I really should have gotten was a damn laxative. By the time I got home, I think I was very close to being impacted. I don't want to get too personal here, but suffice to say that the whole thing ended very, very badly...with an enema and DH's help, much to my mortification.
Ah well. I am fine now, of course. Some numbness in my actual incision area, but I feel absolutely fine. I am ready to begin exercising on my elliptical again and haven't taken my pain meds since 2 weeks post-partum

Jimmysgirl-I think you need lots of big hugs!!!! I can't believe what a time you had. I hope if you have more kids you have a much better experience. I am so sorry you had to go through so much.
Clothes-This is my biggest issue! Blake doesn't fit in NB anymore because they don't button. But 0-3 stuff is so wide on him that it looks awful. I would love suggestions too. He is going to length out of all the stuff before he wears it because I just put him in onsies since he looks more normal in those! I don't understand how clothing is sized because he is right in the middle and most does not fit!
Has anyone found any great infant Halloween costumes? I haven't really looked. I have talked about it with some cousins but we are trying to wait and see how big he will be then. I would hate to find an outfit I love and then have him not be able to wear it!
Okay off to eat lunch since he is sleeping.

1st sorry this post is typed with 1 hand
Kym - sorry that your birth went so badly esp. the recovery
Bibay - I'm so happy for Melia's hips fixing themselves
Michelle - the girls look cute in the bumbo chair I can't wait until Lilli has more neck control hopefully 2 more weeks *fingers crossed*
Annie - sometimes my photobucket won't keep my pics shrunk down either - shrink them on each indivdual pic and use the image code i think,
post them anyways!
Does anyone else have a really long thin baby? What the heck are you going to do about clothing?? Katie some brands fit differently i noticed with Lilli that gap is better for her long legs, i think i saw a thread on cc about this. Also Lilli has a ton of 0-3 months summer clothes and hardly anything for fall in that range, thoughts for Lilli and Maddie growing to fit the clothes!
Has anyone found any great infant Halloween costumes? not yet, children's place has some and so does babies r us
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again? i think probably we will end up waiting 2-3 years, i would like to wait less, DH longer (he has said that he would be ok with just 1 numerous times)
What method of BC does everyone plan on using? condoms before (and the rhythem method) and condoms now (until my cycle is regular again)

kym...you poor thing. i'm sorry you had to go through that. but just think of what you can remind kristianna that you went through when she's rebelling as a teenager :p
Bibay...yay for melia's hips!
Michelle...i can't believe how big the girls have gotten, so cute!

bc...condoms (i don't really want any extra hormones while bf)
halloween...haven't even looked yet
next kid...haven't really thought about it, probably 2 years or so
long thin babies...yup. i like gap clothes, they seem to fit okay (newborn fit, 0-3 still a little wide but i would say they fit fine)
kieran had a dr appt today (make sure nothing was wrong since he's been so fussy...i'm pretty sure it was a growth spurt, since he progressively getting a little better) birth weight: 8lbs 7oz 6 week: 12bls 4oz!! the boy likes to eat...not sure how he looks so skinny.

Birht Control I started The Pill a few weeks ago.
Halloween I've looked around but haven't found anything I really love yet.
Kym I'm sorry. My c/s was so much the opposite of yours...although, when I was on bedrest? I didn't have a bowel movement for over a week, two seperate times. So I can unfortunatly relate there.
Both girls slept from 9:30 to 3:30 last night. 6 hours! They've never even come close to that. I woke up at 2:30, very confused since I couldn't remember getting up with them at 12. Then I went to check on them, and they were out cold so I let them sleep and they lasted another hour. I was just so surprised.
I'm sure it was just a fluke and won't happen again, but boy it was nice!

I think you all stole Maddy's STTN abilities! We've had 2 crappy nights of sleep in a row. Last night she slept from 9:00 until 1:30 and then slept on my chest from 2:30 until 4:00, nursed from 4:00-6:00 (luckily we have the nursing in bed thing down and I slept for most of that) and then up for the day at 6:30.

Lots of babies here having longer stretches of sleep..how many are using the miracle blanket? Kristianna slept from 9 last night till 6 this morning!
Thanks for all of the sympathy on my c-section experience, ladies. It was beyond anything I ever expected, and not in a good way at all. Oh well..
Katie&Micah I'm sorry Maddy is giving you such a hard time at night. I know that can't be easy on you, to say the least. Hang in there..
Bibay Hooray that Melia's hip problem resolved itself! That is wonderful news. She is a cutie pie BTW!!!
LDSAngel That is awesome that the twins both slept like that for you! Are they both on the same awake/asleep schedule, for the most part? Oh, and those pics of them sitting in the bumbo are just too darn adorable!
polkadot Yay for sleep! Its wonderful when it happens, isn't it! Of course, I still wake up thinking something is wrong and have to go in to make sure baby girl is still breathing! :o My sister still does that with her son..who is soon to be 15 years old! LOL!
lovelife Yet another mom who got some rest thanks to baby sleeping longer! Hooray!! The first time Kristianna did that, I stood by the crib and the second she moved, I picked her up too! Of course, she had slept from 9 till 5am, which was completely unprecedented at the time!
alliannie I have the same issues with clothing..I swear that all manufacturers size their stuff differently. Kristianna is fitting into everything from newborn sizes up to 3-6 month sizes, depending on what brand the stuff is. Its frustrating. She stays in onesies most of the time.
QOTD's:
Has anyone found any great infant Halloween costumes? I haven't been looking. But I did find a really cute Halloween sleep n' play with a matching bib that says "My First Halloween" at Target. I couldn't resist it when I saw it. I'll have to take a picture of it so I can post it here. In the meantime, for those of you looking for actual costumes for your baby, check these out: http://www.target.com/gp/search.html/601-5606623-9873714?field-keywords=Halloween&url=index%3Dtarget%26field-browse%3D1038590&ref=sr_bx_1_1&x=9&y=9
What method of BC does everyone plan on using? My doctor prescribed a birth control pill that is safe to take while nursing. But I have to wait till my cycle starts up again before I can start it. In the meantime, condoms. Does anyone know if the contraceptive films are safe to use while nursing?
Does anyone else have a really long thin baby? What the heck are you going to do about clothing?? LOL!! Kristianna is well over 23 inches long and is in the 97th percentile for her length/height, so yeah, long and thin are the key words! Most stuff fits strangely because it isn't long enough so its tight at the crotch area, but fits very loosely everywhere else. She can still wear newborn size diapers!
I have a new QOTD:
Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start?
At my six week checkup, my OB seemed a tad concerned that I haven't started back up again, but I thought that in some cases, nursing can actually delay it.
Well, I was really disappointed when I went back in for my six week PP visit. I still have another 10 pounds to lose, which means I only lost another two pounds since my 2 week PP visit!! Which makes no sense, because I'm fitting back into all of my clothing again, including my jeans. What gives? I am dying to exercise on my elliptical again, but so far just haven't found the damn time. Its pretty frustrating but hopefully I'll get my exercise worked back into our schedule soon so its part of my daily routine. And to further piss me off, the doctor who saw me was not my regular doctor who delivered Kristianna, and she was quick to inform me that I needed to lose the rest of the baby weight asap. Uhhh, thanks alot! Like I didn't already know that, right?! And its only ten pounds, not like I need to lose friggin' fifty pounds here! Sheesh.
Well, I am supposed to return to work one week from today. BUT...thankfully I don't have to. DH's parents loaned us enough money to pay off both of our car loans and some smaller bills so that we wouldn't have such high monthly bills. They actually wrote us a check for $25,000! This has enabled me to not to have to return to work full time. :D I am looking to go either part-time at my current job or look for something part-time in the evenings elsewhere. Yay!!!
Baby girl is growing like a weed and every day seems to be more aware and alert of her surroundings. She also started smiling at DH and I about a week ago and its soooooooo darn cute!! She just melts me into a puddle when she grins up at me! :D

I'm with you Katie. We had our "normal" sleep from 9-2:00. But then it was awful! He nursed and then every time I tried to lay him down he screamed. Finally he went in bed with me but was not happy still really. At about 4 he fell asleep and slept off and on for a couple of hours then was up when daddy got up at 5:45. Plus on top of that he SCREAMED from about 6-9 last night. I think he was gassy. We are going to get some different bottles today because the only time he is gassy is when he has bottles.
Kym-I use a different blanket but still a swaddle blanket. We have since 4 days old. We can't live without that thing!
Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start? Nope and I think your Dr. is wacky;). I don't know any Bfing moms who got theirs back right away. I hopefully won't get one since I BF and next week I get an IUD. So no periods for me hopefully. Woohoo!
Oh I forgot I was going to ask a question!
So QOTD #2-Where does baby sleep? We currently have baby in a pack and play right by the bed and he sleeps in it then with us normally by morning. I think we are going to sidecar a crib or toddler bed(we have one and would just put bed on floor so we don't have to buy crib!) to make things easier. So I am curious what other mommies are doing!

What method of BC does everyone plan on using?
My dr. wrote me a prescription for the mini pill but I don't think I'm going to take it. I read that weight gain can be a side effect and I certainly don't need any of that. While I am down from my pre-pregnancy weight my clothes DO NOT fit properly and I'm still wearing my maternity stuff.
QOTD # 3 Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start?
Nope.. and I'm hoping she stays far far away. I don't understand how your dr. expected it to be back by now. It's very common for it not to come back for a long time when you're bf'ing.
Kym
Congratulations on not having to go back full time!! My parents are helping us out with money also and I don't have to go back at all! It's been so nice not stressing about having to go back.
alliannie
I'm sorry you had a crappy night too. I just don't know what happened. We were having 6 and 7 hour streaks for so long and now it's back to a newborn like sleep schedule.
QOTD #2-Where does baby sleep?
She sleeps in a bassinet right next to our bed. But when she refuses to settle down she gets pulled into bed either on my chest or next to me. During the day if I'm napping with her we sleep in bed together. Or sometimes I fall asleep sitting up on the couch with her on my chest.
Madeline is so dang fussy today. She usually LOVES tummy time and is throwing an absolute fit right now. The good thing about all that tummy time is that she's lifting her whole chest up off the floor now!
Has your baby had their first fall yet?
Maddy had her's last week. I felt like the crappiest mom on earth. I was reading in a magazine today though that it's common for them to have their first fall around 6 or 7 weeks because they are able to do more than we realize. I left her on the couch for a couple minutes while I started dinner and somehow (I can't imagine how) she wiggled herself down to the edge and over the side. It's so strange to me because she was laying perpendicular to the edge of the couch because I KNOW she can roll herself over, but I sure didn't think she could wiggle herself down a foot.

Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start? I got mine at 7 weeks PP, yuck I forgot how it sucks LOL I was surprised to get it so soon, but since I'm EBF and supplementing with formula from time to time, I guess it was to be expected.
Where does baby sleep? She sleeps in a pink Graco travel/mini PNP by our bed. I wanted at least one piece of baby gear that was girly and pink. What is challenging right now is that she prefers to be sleeping on our chest (thanks to MIL who has been watching her for us more often. The woman never puts the baby down!)

Kym - your doctor is nuts!!! I didn't get AF until my DS1 was 11 months old! And that is the same for most of my BFing friends too. Don't expect to get it back anytime soon, if you BF full time.
polkadot - we are only BFing, and it has gotten soooo much better the past two weeks. My nipples were sore too (you may have seen my post int he BFing Thread). We just worked through it and it is better now.
Robyn - I am not sure if DS really has reflux or not. I gave him the medicine for a week, and then I forgot one day and he seemed fine, so I stopped giving it to him. (does that make me a bad mommy?) We then thought (and still think) that he might have colic. He is pretty cranky at night. It is getting better, but having him scream for hours. But I think you asked how reflux was diagnosed. Well, I was telling the Dr. how he nurses. Basically it was ALL.THE.TIME., but he would suck for like a minute and then be fine. Basically the sucking kept the acid down. And sometimes he would grunt and through his head around. And afterwards he would cry and cry and cry. I had to hold him (standing up) and he would be good.
Well, this took me longer than I thought and I need to run to daycare to get DS1. Hope everyone has a nice long weekend!!

Where does baby sleep? She sleeps in a pink Graco travel/mini PNP by our bed.
Bibay.. when I first read that I saw.. She sleeps in a SINK. I think I need a nap.. lol
My cousin just found out she is pregnant so I was going through all the stuff we bought for Maddy that we don't use. I was going to give her the bouncer since Maddy has screamed immediately all 3 times I've tried to put her in it, but I figured I'd give it one last shot. OMG.. I think I found something that will give me a minute to get some cleaning done! She just got this look on her face like.. "wow.. this is cool!" I did some dishes and started a load of laundry and she's still just hanging out. She normally won't go more than 5 or 10 minutes w/o me playing with her or picking her up. Yay!!

Hi Everyone! I have been reading along but haven't been posting much. Allison is sleeping 8 hour stretches at night and I always pump right before I go to bed and thats when I read along, but kind of hard to type and pump ( I have a hand held electric pump).
Kym: Sorry about the c-section exp. I had one too after an induction and labor that did not progress b/c baby girl would not drop. But, I did not have problems like you did, I hated the epidural too (and I was having strong contractions when I got mine. Also, you said a couple of posts back about life with a baby being 1000 times harder than you expected. I totally felt the same way. I thought baby would sleep all the time (yeah right). The first couple of weeks were tough but now it seems each day gets easier. I remember at first wondering why in the world people have more than one kid!
Katie: At my PP check up I was 4 pounds lighter than I was at my first pre-natal appt last year. BUT, my pants don't fit right either. My maternity pants swim on me but my regular pants button and zip but are just to tight through the hips and thighs. Oh well, hopefully someday they will fit!
Alliannie: Our worst night ever was when Allison was gassy. She screamed like she was in pain and just cried so hard. We worked her legs like a bicycle to help get the gas out and then gave her the gas drops and she was fine.
QOTD's
Swaddling: Allison does not like for her legs to be confined, she likes to kick. So we swaddle just her arms with a receiving blanket. DH calls it the straight jacket. She moves her arms so much she wakes herself up so thats why we use it.
AF: Not yet, I wasn't expecting it for awhile b/c of the breastfeeding.
Birth control: I went on the mini-pill.
Where does baby sleep: She is in a bassinet next to our bed. We will probably move her to the crib around 3 months.
I love this picture of her, she looks so much older than 5 weeks old. I wish I would have had her in pink though. Its so hard at this age to tell the difference between girls and boys. I had her in green the other day and a lady asked me how old HE is. I just replied "our baby is 5 weeks."

PP AF? Yeah. around 7 weeks pp. Oh well.
Where does baby sleep? The girls each sleep in their own crib. We had them in one crib together until they started beating on eachother in thier sleep around 6 weeks.
Has your baby had their first fall yet? No but we've had a few close calls. Mostly slipping off the bouncer when I neglect to buckle them in. :o
Katie's comment reminded me of this gem I posted in my LJ a few days ago-
At Sam's Club last night, this old man comes over to see the girls, who were dressed in the exact same pink outfit, Megan had a pink blanket and Natalie had a yellow blanket. Old Guy looks at them and says "They're cute, but why do you dress your son in pink?" I figured he was just colorblind, since everyone always seems to assume they are a boy and a girl no matter what they're wearing, so I just sort of laughed and told him they were both girls. This is where I about died. He then says "No, they're one boy and one girl. ALL twins are one boy and one girl." What??? I told him again they were both girls and he said I was 'fibbing'. LMAO!

Missing in action again :) I haven't mastered one handed typing just yet. So, to catch up on a few questions.
Has anyone found any great infant Halloween costumes?
on the lookout but haven't found anything just yet. There is a black cat sleeper at BRU that we might get. It could still be warm here so I hesitate to get a lot of the costumes b/c they would be too warm.
What method of BC does everyone plan on using?
none for us. And you should have seen the look on the nurses face at my 6 week visit :) Taylor is an IVF baby so if we were to conceive naturally by some miracle- we would welcome it at any time.
clothes? The gerber onesies run small so Taylor is in 3-6 mo. of those but everything else she is 0-3 months. She's got a chubby belly :)
Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start?
Nope. Kym- not sure why your OB is surprised yours hasn't returned. I wouldn't expect it for months..
Has your baby had their first fall yet? No, but we have a wiggle monster so I'm pretty diligent about it. And she doesn't get left unattended (even just across the room) because the dogs would use it as an excuse to lick her silly :)
Where does baby sleep? She starts the evening in her cradle which is next to my side of the bed. Then, usually we co-sleep for part of the evening. Naps are sometimes in cradle, sometimes swing, often my arms or the sling.
We've been using the miracle blanket since she was 1 month old. Usually she sleeps in 3 hrs. shifts but this week we've moved to 5 and 6 hrs for the first shift. It's been great.
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
Well, I can't take any fertility drugs while breastfeeding so we have to wait until we wean. So, the plan is to wean at 1 year and then pursue IVF again. I think I have to wait a few months after weaning to be able to start.
Hope everyone is doing well! Isn't it amazing how much they have grown already?

Gator...we had some friends that had a really hard time conceiving their daughter and then they got pregnant a month or two after she was born...they had the same thoughts about bf and their struggles the first time. They were totally surprised, but really happy. Your post reminded me of them.

I just brought Maddy to bed with me last night in the beginning because she was fussy and I was really tired. The girl slept from 10 until 4:15 (when I woke her up because I had already pumped and I wanted to feed her so I could go back to sleep) ate and went back to sleep and is STILL sleeping! I really don't want to co-sleep full time, because I can sleep more deeply when she's not in bed with me.. but heck. It's better than getting up 2 or 3 times a night.

Sleep last night was more back to 'normal'. I put them down around 9:30 right before DH got home from school and they slept until 1:15. Then they slept until around 5 and got up this morning at thier normal 7:30.
Hey ladies, I had a thought about our thread. Since it was never super super active and seems slower these days, what about combining with the August moms? I don't think they are super active either, I wonder if they would be interested. And aren't we supposed to start a new thread anyway since all of the babies are here?
ETA: Huh. I just now realized that this thread is in the infant and baby groups now instead of the pregnancy groups. So I guess we don't really need a new one.

Where does baby sleep? She sleeps in the bassinett in our room at night and wherever I can get her to sleep for naps (usually starts in the crib then migrates to the swing then eventually my or DH arms) I hope to move her to the crib around 3 months (maybe)
Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start? Nope probably soon since I am not bf.
Has your baby had their first fall yet? Nope, she wiggles a lot so I never leave her on the couch alone even for a split second. She moves off her activity mat several times in 15 minutes by wiggling so I can only imagine.
Katie and Jen - My regular pants are the same through the hips, way too tight. The thighs are just beginning to fit. I would think all this walking I do every night to get DD to sleep and/or calm would have done it by now.
Clothes Lilliana outgrew her NB onsies between yesterday and today and also most of the 0-3 months onsies (sadly some she didn't even wear because I thought they would last at least a week after the NB didn't fit.)
We don't use a miracle blanket for Lilli to sleep she usually screams when her arms are swaddled and she loves to kick. I usually wrap the blanket kind like swaddling but not tight on the legs and keep her arms out (hard to describe but she is able to kick and try to suck her thumb)

Has your baby had their first fall yet? nope...
Clothes
mine~ i am finally fitting into my jeans but they just fit weird I guess things move after a baby...Am waiting a few more weeks to see if i can loose weight and then i'll buy some new stuff.
Eli's~ He has outgrown his newborn onsies and sleepers...he is still kinda small for the 0-3 stuff but he will fit just perfect very soon
We were both dx with Thrush so that ended our nursing experience...overall it was really good, but he was going through is 6 weeks growth spurt with thrush and my nipples couldnt take it...I cried for 2 days while he nursed then decided that it would be better to have a happy momma and a happy baby than to have a momma who cried everytime her little man ate...He is doing really well on the formula...so fingers crossed it stays that way Mommas who are formula feeding i have a ?
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding?

Clothes Lilliana outgrew her NB onsies between yesterday and today and also most of the 0-3 months onsies (sadly some she didn't even wear because I thought they would last at least a week after the NB didn't fit.)
Wow.. must have been that growth spurt!
I put a 0-3 month outfit on Madeline yesterday. It was still big but fitting better. She's still fitting in all her newborn stuff though. I just wish they were longer. I have a feeling I won't be able to button the onesies much longer.
QOTD: Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often
Maddy has never worn a pair of socks and has had shoes on about 4 or 5 times. The only reason I put them on then was because I feel like I have so many shoes for her she should at least wear some once. I only personally bought her 1 pair of shoes, but we've received lots as gifts (maybe 15 pairs). What a waste.. she's never going to wear them.
QOTD #2: What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?
For me it was the bathtub. I just had to have the bathtub with the stupid sprayer to rinse her off with. It's been used once and will never get used again. I'm passing it off to my cousin who just found out she's pregnant. I'll be glad to never have to look at it again. It takes up too much space and is a pita. It's so much easier to hop in the tub and put her on my lap.

i just went back and read that many of you are going on the mini pill as to not effect milk supply, well...my sister was on the mini pill while she bfed her son, who is 11 months...well she just found out...she is 11 weeks pregnan
My dr. warned me about the Mini pill (even though he prescribed it). He said it had to be taken at exactly the same time each day.. dont' take it at 8am one day and then 9:30am the next. He also said that I should consider how upset I would be if I were to get pregnant while on the mini pill. I wouldn't be upset at all.. so I agreed to it. But like I said in a previous post I don't want the weight gain that goes with it so I'm not going to take it. I guess it's back to condoms for us.

The gerber onesies run small so Taylor is in 3-6 mo. of those but everything else she is 0-3 months
I still can't believe how small my girls are compared to everyone else! the 0-3 Gerber onsies are still too big on them.
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding? We always offer 4oz at a time. Sometimes they chug all 4, sometimes as little as two and anywhere in between. For my girls it seems like they eat smaller amounts in the morning and more as the day goes on.
Socks and shoes? My girls have never worn shoes, and they wore socks for the first time ever to church last week since it was only 60 degrees outside.
What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them? Hmmm. We've only used our PnP once so far but I figured that would happen. Pretty much everything we have is used all the time and working out great.

QOTD: Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often
No shoes, but we've kept socks on Kristianna from the time she came home from the hospital. Her feet always feel cold to us! She gets that from me...it can be 100 degrees and my feet will still be freezing cold!
QOTD #2: What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?
So far the PnP has gotten limited use, we only use the changing table part of it.

It is only about 95% effective... and the effectiveness decreases as you wean. Was your sister Bfing less than usual? This is what scared me about the mini-pill and decided to get an IUD ;)

Hey ladies, I had a thought about our thread. Since it was never super super active and seems slower these days, what about combining with the August moms? I don't think they are super active either, I wonder if they would be interested. And aren't we supposed to start a new thread anyway since all of the babies are here?
LDS - I'd been thinking about posting the same thing! Seems all the 2006 groups did it (or at least most) - and I think it makes a lot of sense.
I'll have to catch up on the QOTD. I think we're going through the 6 week growth spurt. Yesterday - DS was on me nursing on and off all day - inclduing for an hour and a half srom 5:30 - 7, then again around 8, 9:30, 10:30 ... finally went down to bed at 11 (would only sleep on me before that) and was up at 1:20, 3:30, 5:30, 7:30 - and I think we've been up since then - ugh!
Also, DH was working last night and his phone died - I couldn't get a hold of him so of course I was worried and didn't even get to sleep till close to midnight. DS is wide awake now while DH sleeps. I hope I can get a shower in today! (well, I WILL) - and I've got to get out of the house.
Hoping to get a chance to pump soon so DH can feed Seth and I could maybe get a pedicure (haven't had one since before I went into labor and my feet are nasty!) - not to mention Seth really needs to start taking a bottle. Of course, getting out and about today if he decides to eat every 2 hours is going to be interesting!
Sorry so long - bbl to catch up - trying to read along - hard to -post b/c baby is usually on boob ;)
Have a great day all!

QOTD: Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often
Like Kym and Brown Eyed Girl, DD's feet always seem cold.
QOTD #2: What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?
I can't think of anything that we don't use, but we do use our pack and play alot. It's kind of like my downstairs homebase. We use the changing table part for all of the diaper changer and she likes to lay on the changing table and look at the mobile. She used to nap in the bassinet but lately she has been napping in her bouncer ( I think she likes to sit up). And when people come over I throw the misc stuff (boppy, blankets, toys, etc) in the part under the bassinet - that's my cleaning up for company HA HA!
First Fall:
She hasn't fell but I don't fasten her in stuff either. Like if she falls asleep in my lap and I put her in the bouncer, I don't fasten it b/c I don't want the noise of the fastener to wake her up.
Mini Pill:
Oh my! I am on it and I am BFing exclusively. I didn't know there was still a chance. I take it with dinner every night so sometime between 5:30 and 7:00 (is that still the same time everyday???). I'm only worried b/c we got pregnant on the first try (then miscarried) and then got pregnant again on the first try. Since I do not have AF I don't know when I am ovulating and more fertile.
Yesterday we went to the zoo. I know Allison did not get a lot out of it, but it was more for her mommy to get out. We went with my two SIL's and their kids. I was so worried about how it would go, but we did fine. She ate once (they have really cool BF'ing rooms all over the zoo) and slept most of the time. This was the longest I had ever had her away from the house by myself so it totally gave me confidence.
Enjoy your holiday weekend!

QOTD: Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often When we are going someplace that is very cold DD wears socks bc she kicks off the blanket always. Shoes - not yet, she only has a few pairs and most of them are too big for her.
QOTD #2: What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them? I was convinced to get a pnp and only use it now and then, maybe when she is bigger. The front carrier she doesn't like bc she can't see anything while facing in but is too small to face out. Again maybe alittle later it will work.
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding? I make usually 2-4 oz for each feeding. Sometimes she eats really slow so instead of wasting I will make 2oz bottles back to back leaving me with a zillion of bottles to wash.
Robyn and Kym - How did your drs. diagnose your DC with acid reflux or colic?
Lauren - Sorry about the end of bf and the thrush. It was a very hard decision for me to stop bfing and I cried for two days before finally deciding (and for a few days after!) I felt tremendously bad like I was letting her down, but at the same time it was a huge relief on me because I was so sore. I am not sure if DD had thrush before I stopped (because the dr she saw the week I stopped said she didn't but a week later she did and her mouth looked the same). FF isn't bad and overall the happier you both are is what matters the most. Hope it works out for you too.
DD has her vaccine shots on Wednesday, yikes! I am so nervous bc she has been very, very fussy lately and I know she will be screaming even more then.
QOTD: Does anyone have a sling or carrier and what are your experiences with the one you have? I am undecided on which one to try next as DD wants to be held and I really want to but she hates the carrier we have.

Kym-I hope you are having a better day. Screaming babies are not fun at all.
QOTD: Does anyone have a sling or carrier and what are your experiences with the one you have? We have a hotsling pouch and a homemade MT. We love them both. Though we don't use them as much as I would like. I am not sure why. I need to work on that.
QOTD #2: What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?We have used everything we have. But we couldn't live without our boppy. It is the one must have and we didnt have it till he was almost four weeks old!!
QOTD: Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often?Very rarely. Really only when he is wearing a sleeper that doesn't have feet at night. Though once it starts getting colder we will all the time I am sure. But his feet are so big he doesn't fit in a bunch of the ones we have!
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding? He gets 3-4oz bottles a day normally. He never finishes a bottle though. Rest of his intake comes from me.
I am up for combining the groups! We are moved over here because I requested it forever ago. I will admit with mommy brain it NEVER occured to me to make a new thread:o. Opps! Does someone want to ask the August mommies?

ack- just lost riduclously long post.
need to head to bed - quick repost - we have a Moby Wrap and a Peanut Shell pouch - they're about the only places I can get DS to sleep during the day! (besides a moving vehicle).
Have a good night all!
Has anyone found any great infant Halloween costumes?
no but its so hot here so I'm not sure if we wil get a real costume or something simply and light
What method of BC does everyone plan on using?
condoms for now. I'm one who got preggo on the pill so I wont bother with it again. I chart too.
Has anyone gotten AF back yet? If so, when did it start?
Nope but i thought I did in seattle. With DS#1 I went 10 months and DD 4 months So i better not get it any time soon;)
Has your baby had their first fall yet? nope thank God! He is a wiggle worm!
Where does baby sleep? Naps usually in his swing and bed in his PNP and then we sometimes co sleep. We've been using the miracle blanket and he sleep in 4 hours shifts
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
I dont know. Since we already have 3 boys people think I'm nuts to think about a 4th but I really want another girl. I miss it So maybe a year or 1.5 years
Does anyone have a sling or carrier and what are your experiences with the one you have?
I have a native and a ring sling. I never use my native but I love my ring sling. My friend made it and I think I need her to make me another one! it was a God send in Seattle with A.
What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?
I havent used my boppy much, The bouncy seat is a hit or miss. I think thats it though.
Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often?
I always have socks on him. He's feet are always so cold.
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding?
I guess about 4-5 oz. He only gets a bottle once a day if that so I'm not too sure
Sorry I've been MIA we had so much to do for school starting and then Seattle with 3 boys. We have a great time though. It is beautiful there and didnt rain! we were in pants and jackets. Far cry from here where its 100 degrees!
My pump died this week:mad:I went to pump yesterday and it didnt work. Ugh I was so mad. but Dh bought me on off of Ebay new so I'll be happy in a few days when it arrives! Aiden is good. sleeping is getting better. He smiles a lot. I love it. Everyone comments on all his hair. He's still on a nebulizer when ever he sounds crappy. I hate it though but I guess he doesnt like the weather much!
Me-I'm good. back in most of my clothes but they fit different. Loving being at mama again
Lauren- sorry about the thrush!
Kym -sorry about K crying and being so upset. I agree putting A in his sling always works!
Michelle- great idea on the threads ITA!
Hope everyone is great

How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
Hubby & I were "just" having this conversation...It took us 18 months and fertility meds to get E, so we will probably start trying again when he is a year and 1/2 that way there will be a 2 year age difference..."hopefully"
Does anyone have a sling or carrier and what are your experiences with the one you have?
I have used my sisters hotsling around our house he seems to like it ok...i havent used it for an extended period of time though...i want one of my own though hers is kinda big
What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?
diaper warmer...everyone said to get one...but its still sitting in the box in his closet...I shoud have returned it..
Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often?
yes, he always has cold feet and so do I
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding?
E gets 4 oz bottles...soemtimes he drains them other times there can be anywhere from an ounce to 1/2 an ounce left...he is sleeping 2 1/2 3 hour spurts sometimes 4 hours in the afternoon..
I am very excited...I just got off the phone with my insurance co. and my insurance pays for most of the cost of the mirena IUD. I only have to pay
$50, I am very excited. I did not want to go back on the pill, I hated it and really think that it had something to do with us having to take fertility meds and having m/c issues. The IUD is supposed to return your fertility as soon as you remove it...yay... I am excited...

Thanks Lisa!
I've decided I want to donate some of my extra breast milk. I just have way too much and don't want it to go to waste. I tried to slow down on the pumping but it seems like my supply is getting bigger instead of smaller. Does anyone know anything about private donation? I don't like the idea of donating to a milk bank who is then going to sell it to someone for a horrendous price. I've looked around a little online but can't find much.
Madeline is smiling constantly.. and her new trick is that if I'm holding her against my chest while sitting down she'll use her legs and push herself up into a standing position (with her head/shoulders leaning against me, but legs away from my body). It's soooo incredibly cool!! I can't believe how fast she's growing. 2 months old today!

Popping in after a long abscence... having two kiddos is hard work! :D
How long are you planning on waiting until you get pregnant again?
We're likely done. I'm not as at peace with this decision as DH is but I know it makes sense. We have two healthy kids, we work outside the home, we have a 3 bedroom house and given house pricing in So cal that's not likely going to change, well, ever. It makes sense to stop but I'm not ready to say I'll never be pg again and in fact that makes me quite sad.
Does anyone have a sling or carrier and what are your experiences with the one you have?
I have a fleece Kangaroo Korner pouch. I love it but haven't used it much with Jocelyn b/c of the heat- I had it for Landon who was a fall baby. I'm looking to get a Beco carrier, just need to decide on the pattern I want :)
What items did you think you *had* to have and have since realized you'll never use them?
Nothing really..this go 'round. Other than small clothes. I have tons of newborn onesies and front snapping t-shirts that we didn't use simply b/c she was so big at birth (9 lbs, 14ounces)
Do you put socks and/or shoes on your baby? How often?
Very rarely does Miss Jocelyn wear socks. I hate them myself and prefer bare feet but for her it's simply too warm and she doesn't require them so I don't even bother.
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding?
No clue. She's been exclusively breastfed. I'm happy it's worked but it made it difficult when yesterday she went to my in laws so I could pop into the office for a couple hours and then get my hair done. I had NO CLUE how much breast milk to defrost.Luckily I seemed to have guestimated correctly and figured between 3 and 4 ounces per feeding.
**********************
All here is well. Jocelyn is a dolly and is generally happy. LJ LOVES his sister and she loves him. She'll grin the very instant she spies him. Adorable.

The milk donation conversation is an interesting one. Once I'm back at work and get a handle on what our pumping situation and her consumption looks like I may look into it b/c I easily have 200 ounces already.... but we're going to Las Vegas in October for 3 nights without her so I'll use a chunk then.

Wow we have been some quiet mommies this week. I bet some of us are spending to much time reading the drama thread to post in here:p.
We have had a bad week. Monday night DS started puking and Tuesday morning he had dirrehea?. Then starting that afternoon he didn't want to eat much. Finally after three calls to the dr. office we had an appt for Wednesday morning. They did tests and decided it was just viral and he did start eating again. He seems so much better last night and today. We also switched to a gentler formula to help with fussiness and so far it has!! And I am so happy that he currently taking almost all BM and only about 6 onces of formula a day! My supply is keeping up much better.
Anywho...
MommaO-Great pictures!!
Katie and Lisa-That is awesome you guys are going to donate! If I had extra I would do the same.
LDS-What a good picture! Your girls are getting big.
Well off to ahh...play on CC while DS sleeps:D.

Lets see, I'll answer some of the QOTD's first, I guess.
Does anyone have a sling or carrier and what are your experiences with the one you have? I have the Lamaze close carrier and have used it one time only. It seemed like Kristianna got overheated in it very quickly and plus it just seemed too big for me, even on its tightest adjustment. It also didn't look to me like there was adeguate ventilation built into it. I would like some recommendations for better slings/carriers. I only paid $35 for mine and I don't mind paying more for a better quality. Does anyone have those Peanut slings and if so, what is your experience with them?
How many ounces does your child get at each feeding? Currently between 4-6 ounces every 3 hours. Sometimes she can go closer to four hours, but then she's generally overly hungry and more fussy, so three hours is optimal. Now her first feeding of the day is different; she generally sleeps for 8-9 hours straight and therefore wakes up starving, so we give her between 7-8 ounces for that feeding. I think I forgot to mention that her pediatrician had us begin adding a tablespoon of rice cereal to each bottle for about a month now. This was part of her treatment for reflux as well as the fact that she was cluster-feeding nonstop. Since we started with that, she hasn't cluster-fed one time.
Speaking of the reflux, I know that someone here asked me how our ped. diagnosed her with it. At her one month checkup, she was still suffering with lots of spit-ups, cluster feeding and acted like she was in terrible pain while eating, plus she would have choking episodes that scared the living crap out of us. We had reported all of that to the ped several weeks prior. So when we went for her one month appt and the symptoms were still continuing, that is when the ped prescribed Zantac syrup, the rice cereal and had us prop her up for 30 minutes after each feeding. Unfortunately, she still seems to be suffering with the reflux. The Zantac didn't do anything to help her, so we discontinued dosing her with it. Our pediatrician has now referred us to a pediatriac gastroenterologist for further evaluations. :(
alliannie Sorry your little one was sick. That couldn't have been much fun at all. I'm glad he seems to be feeling better now! And yay that your supply is building up, that is wonderful!
j2478 Hope everything is good with you and the little one! I've lost several posts and got tired of that happening, so now whenever I have a big post, I copy it first before I hit submit, that way it isn't lost if it somehow doesn't go through.
MommaO Hey, good to see you in here again. Don't feel bad, I really have to work to find time to get a post in here. Love those pics of your DS and Jocelyn. And your nursery is gorgeous!
Lisa How did the second hearing test go? Hopefully he passed it this time around.
Katie&Micah I think its wonderful that you are donating your breastmilk like that, what a great gesture that is. :) Can I ask, how often do you pump during the day? I am exclusively pumping and feeding it via a bottle and I never get ahead enough to freeze anything. I usually have about 7-10 feedings worth of BM in my fridge, which isn't bad, but I'd love to build up a stash. What am I doing wrong? When I pump, I get about 5-7 ounces total combined between right and left breast.
Well, Kristianna is still very fussy. Most days it seems to be concentrated in the evenings, but there are days when she just won't stop crying and screaming no matter what. I really believe that it must be either reflux or a bad case of colic. I can actually feel large amounts of gas moving in her belly when I am holding her. I feel so bad for her, she just seems to be in such pain alot of the times. :( I wish there was more I could do to help her. We give her gas drops, bicycle her legs, rub her belly and still nothing much seems to help.
Her two month appointment is this week and I am dreading it. She is due for four different shots and I had the hardest time last month when she just got one. Her whole face just contorted in pain when that needle went in her thigh. I cried along with her. :( I would like to ask, if I can without causing a debate to start, if anyone is considering not getting certain vaccines, or holding off on them? I'm debating on the MMR and the chicken pox vaccine, and everyone in our families thinks I'm being overly paranoid. I would like some input from other July mommies please.

Hi Everyone!
Momma O - The nursery looks beautiful and so do your DC all decked out to watch football!
Kym - DD cries often also that was why I was wondering about the reflux. The 1 time I gave her gas drops she was worse than ever (cried until 4 in the morning). Is your DD constipated though? When DD was constipated nothing worked except giving her small amounts of water between feedings (dr. recommended). But when she is just fussy the only 2 things that seems to work with us is "sshhing" her while rocking her and patting her tush or talking to her or each other really loudly (found these out by chance I think it seems to help her stop crying and focus on something else - the patting or the shh noise) She also seems to like "white noise" but since that drives us insane we opt for the other two.
Annie - Hope DS feels better, what formula did you end up switching to? Our pedi recommended Good Start and it doesn't seem to bother DD. The enfamil and similac made her spit up pretty frequently also DH seems to shake the bottle like it is a martini and the good start doesn't foam up a lot.
Lisa and Katie - That is awesome that you both are donating milk.
Lisa - Hope the hearing test went ok.
Lilliana had her 2 month checkup on Tuesday and all is good. She is in the 90% range for her head and height and the 50% range for her weight. She had her vaccinations and only cried a little for each one (3 shots total). I was very proud of her. She actually was able to regroup herself before the dr. had the next shot ready to go and the dr. wasn't going slow.
Birth weight - 6 lbs 4 oz
2 month check up - 10 lbs and 6 oz
Birth height - 21 inches
2 month check up - 22.5
IMO The height is wrong though because the RN didn't unbend her legs. She measures about 24 at home.

Kym: Losing a post sucks, I will have to remember about the copying thing - thanks for the tip! Sorry to hear DD is crying alot, I read somewhere that 1 - 2.5 months is babies fussiest period so hopefully all of our little ones will be out of that period soon!
Lovelife: Yeah for DD handling the shots well, I am dreading ours. Just as much for me as for her - I don't know how well I will be at watching her cry from the shot.
Just my own story since people have been posting about crying little ones -
Allison has always had a tough time winding down in the evening and going to sleep - she just fights to stay awake and makes herself more tired and cranky b/c of this. DH and I now have her evening routine down to where we can get her to sleep without alot of cries or fussiness. We swaddle her and put her in her swing, we give her a pacifier and when the pacifier falls out of her mouth she's asleep. The less napping she has during the day and the more outside stimulation (out of our house, people holding her, etc) she has, the harder it is for her to calm down to go to sleep. So when we are at DH's family get togethers, like yesterday - she hardly naps b/c everyone passes her around and plays with her. So when evening hits she is beyond tired and it is that much harder to get her to go to sleep. But, DH and I know this and we take turns swaddling and rocking her and soothing her til she does go to sleep - but she does cry. Yesterday we were at DH's aunts for a family get together and she was great all day, no cries - smiled at everyone. But at night she got really fussy and was crying before we could get her to sleep. Same thing happened last weekend at MIL's house with the whole family. Everyone has the "babies cry, its OK" attitude except DH has a brother who him and his wife are very competitive with everyone (friends, family, etc) and they are just plain a-holes! They have a girl who is 2.5 years old and every conversation with them, they compare our DD with theirs. So BIL has the nerve last night to say to DH and I that their daughter "never" cried like Allison does. Just totally broke my heart! I know he is a jerk and their little girl probably did cry, but they never brought her out of the house til she was 3 months old. We saw her when she was born and then 3 months later and we live 30 minutes from them. Sure, if we never took Allison out of the house she would be content. But his wife is the same way, when I say something Allison does their little girl did it differently and their way was so much better. I say I let Allison nap in her bouncer, she says she always let DD sleep in her arms b/c it was better for bonding time. ARGH!
Just a vent b/c I know it is so hard when the babies cry and it just breaks your heart and at the same time makes you lose your mind! So, just a ((( hug ))) to all the moms who are dealing with crying and fussiness. Just think of me - I am going through it with some a-holes looking over my shoulder telling me I'm doing it wrong!
Sorry so long. I am at work today. I quit when Allison was born, but my boss told me he would pay me to come in and answer phones on the weekends. So I am doing that today (Sundays are only 6 hours) and one more Sunday at the end of the month. I would like to do 2 Sundays a month. It is totally weird being back at my workplace after almost 2 months away, it feels to me like time has stood still since Allison was born but then I come it and it is totally obvious that time has passed and things have changed.

Jen - I could have wrote your post regarding crying and fussiness, DD is the same way. The end of a busy day is the worst. Yesterday we were at our MIL and everyone kept telling me that DD was hungry because she was crying when I could tell she was just tired (eyes wide open and trying to still see everything but yawning and rubbing her eyes every few second and she just ate a lot). I had to take her into an empty room rock her to sleep then return to where everyone was after she fell asleep. Sorry about your BIL and SIL some people are just a@@holes!
