View Full Version : Wearing tankini top as a shirt?

It's hot. I am sweating through everything unless I am in air conditioning. I just put on my tankini top to wear as a shirt. (Um, no, not to a job, just around the house or wherever I go for the day! :) ) It's not a bikini top, but a tankini top.
I wonder, are there any tank tops that I could buy for casual summer wear (such as around the house on really hot/humid days) that anyone recommends? I've tried tank tops with the supposed built in bra thing, but they never really work for me. This tankini top actually provides support which is great. It also is still modest looking.
This is sort of a random post I suppose, but I am honestly curious, are any of you guilty of wearing part of your swimsuit as your outfit for the day? Is this crazy of me? Keep in mind I live in MN, not FL or CA!

I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing a tankini top as a regular top. In fact, I never thought of it but it's a GREAT idea. I live in Va Beach where it gets up in the 90's with 100% humidity, so I'm miserable all summer. Tanks are great, but the thought of wearing a bra under any shirt leaves me cringing (built-ins don't work for me either).
I did get an amazing bra from Walmart for about $10, and some t-shirts that are a very light fabric from Target for $6 each (I'll look up the name when I get home). They are very comfy and "breathe" when it's hot out. I think they have tank tops in the same type of fabric, but I'm not sure.
I'm losing weight so my budget is small for summer active wear. There are a lot of breathable fabrics on the market (you might also want to check out work-out wear, their tanks offer a little more support than your basic built-in bra style tank.

I have one of these (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_6/601-4711179-7207334?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000M4GDC8), and it works pretty well. I've foudn that any activewear tank made of dri-fit material works well for wearing around the house. Generally, they have good support and breathe pretty well. I always get the long tanks though. There's no need for my mommy tummy (and super sweet stretch marks) to be hanging out.

Good suggestions! I had never thought of getting workout clothes. Are they still "breathable"?
I just hate this weather! I have long hair too, and am almost tempted to chop it all off! Not only that, but my face just gets all sweaty and gross too in this hot and humid weather. I don't wear much make-up if any, but still, IF I wear any make-up, it drips off. Oh, and I wear glasses too (see avatar photo), and that part where the glasses sit on your nose? Sweaty! Yuck! I almost don't want to wear my glasses, but then I can't see.

Yeah, they are. Just look for labels with clima-lite, dri-fit, or any other wording that indicates that moisture is wicked from the body. Under Armour (http://www.underarmour.com/ProductFullLine.cfm?site_id=2&dept_id=1&coll_id=2102)is a great company for those types of tops, although it is pricier than the Champion one I linked to above. My DH wears the Champion dri-fit tees all of the time underneath his work clothes. The man sweats in mid-winter just breathing. Since he needs so many shirts, the Champion ones are more affordable.
I hear you on the heat. I'm in Iowa, and it's been wicked hot here too. Luckily, my DD's been keeping me with the AC lately. I'm totally dreading July. Maybe we'll get a bit of rain in a few days.

Probably the Champion brand would be more within my budget! :)
I agree that rain would be wonderful! I've always loved the rain! I love where I live, but sometimes I think perhaps I belong somewhere like Portland.

I would definitely wear workout clothes before I would wear a bathing suit top around town. Maybe check out tops that are made specifically for yoga or dance, as they might be a little more "fashionable." I cant remember the brand I normally wear, but they make tons of diferent types of tops -- everything from tanks to light long sleeve shirts.

I find that I'm actually cooler in very lightweight cotton t-shirts. I got a bunch of them on sale at a Gap outlet - I think they cost around $7 or $8. They're the lightweight almost sheer type of t-shirts. They probably won't last more than 1-2 summers, but for that price, I don't care.
And don't chop your hair! Wear it up. Summer will be over soon. :)

I've had short hair before, but oddly enough, in some ways long hair is almost easier to deal with in this weather BECAUSE it can be pulled back! My problem is I suppose that I am so clueless when it comes to hair. I seriously don't know how to do anything with it other than putting it in a ponytail or a bun. Sad, huh?
On hot days like this, I swear I've thought, "I can ALMOST understand why Brittany did it!" :D (Don't worry, I won't be shaving my head!)

I've had both short and long and agree that long is more versatile. Have you ever used hair claw clips (http://www.goodhairdays.com/hair-clips.htm)? They're probably totally out of style, but when I'm hot and running around, I don't care. :p I pull my hair back like I'm going to put it in a pony tail, and then at the spot where the hair is closest to my head, I start twisting. I twist it 2-3 times and then clip it with a hair claw. That might be another option for you.
I bet Britney's wigs are feeling pretty hot right about now. ;) :p
