I searched for a thread on this several times. So I hope there is not one already. My friend is passing this on to as many people as possible and I trying to do my part. Kaleb is a 6 month old little boy who is in the hospital with Shaken Baby Syndrome. I don't know how many people have a Myspace but if you don't it is worth getting one to keep up with this sweet little boy who needs our prayers.

Here is a synopsis of the story:

Like any responsible parents, Kristy and Josh Schwade wanted what was best for their only child, Kaleb. They did a background check on their day care worker, and even interviewed her in her home for two hours. Kristy was even willing to drive 20 miles out of her way to provide, what they thought to have been, "optimum" care in a good neighborhood.

On May 9th, 2007 their worst nighmare was brought to fruition. After being in the care of this home day care worker only five times, Kaleb was picked up by his Grandmother and Aunt. They noticed that he was lethargic and experiencing obvious breathing abnormalities. The caregiver told them he was ill, but Kaleb had just visited the doctors the day before and was given a "clean bill of health". When Kristy arrived at her mother's home to pick Kaleb up, she described him as "having no life in his body". She tried repeatedly to wake him, but with no avail. She and her father got in the car and rushed to the hospital. While in the vehicle, Kristy lifted Kaleb's little eyelids. She noticed that his pupils were different sizes. Being the wife of an EMT, she knew immediately that this was the sign of a head injury- Kaleb needed IMMEDIATE care. They stopped at the nearest firestation. The ambulance took him to the nearest hospital, and he was classified as a "trauma alert". He was then life-flighted to Tampa General Hospital, and was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). He was diagnosed as having Shaken Baby Syndrome. They also discovered that he had been SMOTHERED!

Help Kaleb Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/helpkaleb) - This page tells everything you need to know about him and even a link where you can subscribe to his mother's blog. There is also a link to Snopes confirming the validity of the story.

Please so whatever you can... Prayer, pass the story along, buy a keychain or make a donation. I can not imagine what this family is going through.

I saw this on myspace recently and was horrified. This is just horrible! The sick woman that did this needs to be locked up for life.

I totally agree. But the sad thing is she probably won't.

I've been keeping up with the story since someone posted it on another board I visit last week... so sad and horrible what this very young family is going through (not to say it would be less horrific for an older family...)

When I first read about this it made me feel sick to my stomach, literally. It is absolutely horrible. I can't even look at the myspace because the pictures bring me to tears. Poor little fella.

From what I read on a news page he just had another successful surgery so hopefully he will recover as fully as possible.

This is a gutwrenching story. I've been reading his mom's blog on myspace everyday for updates. I hope he recovers as fully as possible. I also hope that the woman who did this is punished as she deserves. I know I'd like five minutes alone in a room with her. It's so hard to comprehend how someone could hurt such a precious little boy.

Oh my god. How horrible, I am crying. How the hell can someone deliberately hurt a child? Really!

I remember one day I took DD to the ER for something (I forgot what) and there was a woman in the waiting room with a little girl who couldnt have been more than 3. This little girl was crying and holding her arm. I realized it was broken. The woman didnt even hug her, pick her up or tell her she will be ok. When we were waiting for the doctor, DH overheard some nurses talking and apparently that same woman ran a daycare out of her home and a child 'fell' and died not too long ago and the woman was saying the little girl 'fell' They called in for investigation. I was sick to my stomach and wanted to hold that little girl. People like that souldnt run a daycare or even have children.

I generally look at snopes when reading this stuff (anything on myspace, email, etc). Sadly it is true.

Some girls in our neighborhood had a car wash to raise money for Baby Kaleb this weekend. I hope they did well, and I'm off to check the blog to see how Kaleb is doing...

His mom posted yesterday that a Native American pastor came in to play a flute, I think it was, for him and he went nuts-moving and responding a lot. He was also resisting her while she was "working him out," which I assume is his PT, but the doctors told her that shows that he is thinking. I was so happy to read that. I hope he continues to improve, poor little guy.
