A-lo- Thanks for the Lands End tip, another tall one at 5'8"

Kelly- Your dizziness might be because of your increased blood supply. I think that by now we have increased our blood supply by 1/3. I read this in one of the pregnancy books I have- not sure which of the half dozen…

Angel- Your twin belly is way too cute! My doctor was telling me that twin mommys usually feel their babies faster. Have you felt them moving around yet?

Glensgirl- yikes. Big projects. We've got a million of those projects and we had a million before we got pregnant. Now that the energy has come back I HAVE to get some things done! I know how you feel!

Meatpie- You're not a slacker for not looking at baby stuff yet! You're just not neurotic like people sometimes call me. I think that's a good thing! ;)

Edsbabyrhi- Congrats on the baby BOY!

Hello to eveyone I missed!

This thread moves along SO quickly! I noticed that we move quickly even though there are not as many of us as in some of the other groups (months).

DH and I are trying to figure out if we are actually going to make our planned move. We had plans to put our place on the market this month, and buy a new house… But I don't know if that is stress I want to deal with right now. So we are planning a full nursery regardless (couldn't hurt for staging purposes anyway). I think we are leaning towards putting chair-rail and moldings up on the lower portion of the wall for the nursery. We also need to figure out where the computer's new home is going to be.

Other than that, things are going great, and we are trying to finalize our lists for our registry. I think we might go out to BRU this weekend to make some decisions.

I hope everyone has a great day!

angelgirl8 What a cute babies belly :D :D (two smiles for the two kids jumping aroudn in there)

Hi everyone else. Sorry about lack of time for shoutouts. I don't think I updated since our last appointment. My OB sent me to a perinatologist a couple weeks ago since I was still spotting and bleeding. The perinatologist was from Croatia (spelling?), and had different ways of describing things. :) Anyway, he said I should double up my folic acid (dang, I'm taking a lot) since I have "two babies in there" He also said no going to the gym, no long walks, no lifting, no sex, etc. until 3 weeks past the last bleed. My DH and I are going nuts over here. ;) Then he explained why no sex. He said (I got to quote this, watch out if you're eating/drinking anything).. He said, "the penis is like a piston in an engine banging against the cervix." I was very proud of myself for not cracking up. So anyway, we're taking it easy for another week and a half, then it's time for fun and the gym. :D :D

Our next appointments are September 6 and September 13th. The 6th is with the twins specialist (maternal fetal specialist) who has the great ultrasound machine and gives us 45 minute videos to take home. The 13th is just the regular OB appointment.

Oh well, back to work.

Hi Everyone! I too am a February mama to be and would love to join this group :)!

I've been lurking on and off for awhile and have finally gotten around to registering.

Here are my stats:

me: 27
dh: 32
TTC Date: June 2003
HSG: March 05
SA: Feb 05
Diagnoisis everything was great
BFP! June 13
EDD: February 20, 2006

I'm just so excited to finally be able to join a pg group! After 2 years of ttc I didn't think it was ever going to happen. I've has ms since 6 wks but, thankfully it is getting lots better. I still have to eat all the time to keep the nausea away but, nothing like before and so far I've only gained about 4lbs, which is good I guess but I already can't fit into any of my old jeans . So far all my weight gain is in my belly.

Well that's all I have time to post this time. Hope everyone is feeling great today!

angelgirl8 Another shortie here - I'm also 5'0. I love your belly shot! How great do you look???

Mindy Fabulous shirts- you have great taste... :)

kaylag Welcome to our group! We have lots of fun and everyone is very helpful.... (Ask Mindy for any information on strollars or cribs) LOL

Astro I think I would have died laughing with that Penis is a pistol line! Hope you get through the next week and a half o.k.

Jordan YAY! I hope you are feeling better for good- glad you could eat....

I thought I was past the M/S but last night I threw up again after dinner. blech. And ALL i want to eat is gratefruits.... thankfully they are in season- but really?? How many gratefruits can a gal eat. And since they are sour but I put sugar on them - what does that say about boy/girl??? I'm feeling o.k.- but mentally still feeling a little down and stressed. The job situation hasn't helped and when I go home all my husband does is stress about money. He's making me a little crazy. Anyway- just wanted to quickly check in. Hope all is well.

Oh! Landsend overstock is great!!!

angelgirl, you look great!

Work has been super-stressful lately. They basically canned the project I was working on, so I was worried for a couple of days that *I* would be canned, too. But, I've been reassigned to manage another team within the group, which is actually a far better opportunity. And, I have a new manager (which, trust me, is a great GREAT improvement!) So, as the week winds down, I feel less stress than before the big announcement. Ahhhhh.

Not much to report here. Am definitely starting to feel the 2nd tri kick in. No more nausea. Energy level is better. But, now I have the most pleasant aching in my pubic bone area. I guess the ligaments down there are stretching. Each time I get up from standing, I feel like I'm just going to rip in half. It's not painful, per se, just uncomfortable. I'm sure the discomfort will switch to outright pain in the 3rd tri, though. :p

Have my next appt tomorrow. My OB was on Good Day Live this morning (local morning TV show in Los Angeles), talking about fertility. She's so awesome! She does regular features on that show, in addition to other things. Sometimes I wonder how she manages to fit in her patients, being so busy, but she does.

JennaPeach Your doctor is famous! How cool is that?? :) I'm so easily impressed. Glad your job situation has improved that must be a relief. I've been feeling the ligmant pulling for awhile now as well.... Ah stretching!

Does anyone else have a super overdeveloped gag reflex? The slightest things like coughing hard (which I do fairly often cause I have asthma) and gargling too long in the AM send me to the toilet to throw up. It's very frustrating.

Kelly Is the dizziness when you change positions suddenly? That was happening to me when I was confined to my prison oh I mean on bed rest and the doc said it was just cause there is more blood in your body now so it rushes fast when you change elevation.

Angel Look at that belly! My is just barely starting to show. If you didn't know me and saw me, you would just think that I had a slight belly always.

QOTD What has your DH done to make you feel good on this roller coaster ride we are all on? I got breakfast in bed this AM. It was pretty funny cause I went to get up before I was supposed to and headed downstairs and he said, "GET BACK IN BED! What are you doing? You are supposed to be in bed!"

tray622
08-25-2005, 04:33 PM
QOTD This is a good one :) I have to say that I appreciate DH so much more now that we have an infant and I am pg. He is so good about taking over as soon as he gets home from work at 4, lets me sleep in on Sat. while he takes Zoey to breakfast, and watches her most of that day so I can get my pedicure. He gets up at 5 all week and never gets to sleep in, yet he doesnt complain. Plus, he does all the housework. Ah... I feel so mushy for him right now :) I think he feels bad because with Zoey he worked a lot fo hours and I spent a lot fo time alone and he was the absolute WORST labor partner in the entire world. So bad that I considered banning him this time. Not kidding at all!

edsbabyrhi Your DH is so sweet! I have been craving breakfast for dinner all day and am counting down the minutes for dinner. You made me even more hungry lol

*snort* I hope she's not doing a morning show segment while I'm in labor. ;)

I, too, was bitten by the Fashion Bug. I ordered the following today:

Gah! Must. stop. spending. money. :D

edsbabyrhi, The overactive gag reflex was me, two weeks ago. I'm pretty much past that now, but I was definitely making a run for the bathroom when I'd have to cough.

QOTD: He's been pretty accomodating. I've gotten breakfast in bed a few times and haven't had to do much of anything around the house. That's cute that your hubby told you to get back into bed!

Fashion Bug - that site is great and awesome deals. I started shopping yesterday but got side tracked by work. One of my co-workers had a home interior party last night. I ended spending some dinero there. At least i got my spending fix.

Has anyone seen Ann AKA ausmarchbride? I have not seen her posts in a few days and am a little worried.

QOTD-- DH stepped up to the plate and hit a home run (even though i tell him i am waiting for the grandslam- hehe). I still make the dinner after work- but he takes care of all the clean up- come to think of it he should probably do that whether i am pg or not- but i spoiled him.

Well I just got back from my monthly checkup and everything looks good the doctor said. I gained another 3lbs. and my BP was good. It took him a while to find the HB which at first was freaking me out a bit cause at almost 17wks I would think it should be easy. He finally found it. He said it took him so long because of the baby's angle and the fact that he or she is moving like crazy in there.
I signed the decline form for my 16wk bloodwork and was given an appointment for a 20 week Level 2 ultrasound (because of the decline). I can't tell you how much I want that ultrasound to be here....I can't stand not knowing the sex of my little one!!! I give all you women who are keeping it a suprise major credit. There is no way I could do it!

edsbabyrhi- I know what you mean about the overdeveloped gag reflex. I get it all the time, especially when I yawn...

jennapeach- cute clothes! I'll have to check out fashion bug too!

kaylag- welcome to the group!

Well I gotta get back to work but I'll try and post more later!

hi everyone!

thanks to all of you for the compliments on my twinbelly shots! it definitely made me feel better with all this nausea still around!

astro...i'm so jealous of your 45 minute video. i'd watch it every day. i'm bringing a video to my anatomy scan on sept. 13, so hopefully we'll get a long one.

kaylag...welcome!

jenna...my ob has been on "the view" before. cool to see your doctor on tv, huh?

clothing...i went shopping a couple of days ago with my sister. got some good stuff at h&m, gap and old navy. i know i've grown, but i was so surprised at how well maternity clothes fit me. so comfortable!

qotd...my husband (a complete doof) has been amazing. through everything we did to get these babies, he was incredible and he continues to take care of me now. besides for trying to force-feed me foods i don't want and vitamins, he's trying to make things as easy as possible on me.

___

someone asked about movement, but i can't find who! silly pg brain. anyway, i had also heard something about feeling twins move earlier so that's why i asked about movement the other day.

i think i did feel them move the other night. or one of them. who knows, but it made me happy!

Went to the dr. yesterday afternoon. Everything looks good, got to hear the h/b, rate 155, Girl??????? I gained back the 5 lbs I lost, so I am now back to where I started.

Kelly: I asked my dr. about the dizziness I am having and she said to just make sure I am taking my vitamins, which I am, and she also looked at my iron level and that was fine too, so she said not to worry but call if it got worse.

edsbaby: GAG.....all the time for me :( When I cough, brush my teeth, or even see something remotely disgusting I may have to run to the bathroom.....it has definately gotten a little worse of the last couple of weeks.

Kaylag Welcome to the group!!!

Hi everyone! I am so regretting wearing these pants today! Just another article of clothing that will be removed from my closet for a few months! I'm getting closer and closer to the full maternity garb. :D

LooLoo
Thanks! I definitely take that as a compliment since you are already my sweater twin. ;-)

Grapefruits, huh? That is interesting! Would you eat them before you were pg? I would say that at this point, just eat what you think you can keep down and if its grapefruits, then so be it!

jennapeach
Whew on the job situation! I know that can be nerve wracking. And I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better, well less the ligament pain. But you are right, I’m sure we will be much more uncomfortable in the 3rd tri so we should enjoy it now, huh? Cute shirts!

tray
Thanks and thanks again for posting that code! I just hate to spend so much money on temporary clothes so when I find a sale, I am giddy! That deal was almost as good as a pair of $3.71 pants I got at the mall last year.

edsbabyrhi
Ah, your Dh sounds like a sweetie! I fortunately haven’t had any gagging episodes but I have heard many a pg lady say the same thing as you.

roe
I haven’t been to a Home Interiors party in forever, it feels like! Glad you got some good stuff!

cgriffin
There is no way I could wait either and have the sex be a surprise at the birth! I am so impatient! I’m glad your appointment went well and you got to hear the heartbeat. I know the babies are moving around in there like crazy. I think it will be so fun when we actually can feel it!

angelgirl
That is so awesome that you felt the babies or baby, whichever one was moving around in there! I am with you on the maternity clothes. Comfort is definitely becoming key!

jenryan
So glad to hear that everything looks good!

QOTD
Mostly hubby carries things for me and does all of the hard work. :D And he makes me feel good about my bulging belly.

Hi ladies! I hope everyone has minimal sickness today!

Just had to answer the QOTD:

DH has been wonderful (I am a lucky gal- he always is). He has been doing a lot more of the cleaning lately though. Last night he actually helped me out tremendously because my little bird is sick. We had to bleach her cage and buy her medicine, and new dishes, etc. He completely cleaned everything while I played with her. No complaining, no nothing! As background, my bird is not very nice to him, so she is not his favorite pet. It was very sweet.

Bird just laid an egg this morning, so that might have been making her more sick. She seemed much better this morning. He even checked on her this morning. I think he secretly likes her! ;)

I love it! So the bird was pregnant and she was sick! Just like us! :) I love it!

jenryan I am so glad you gained weight and are feeling better.

QOTD hmm- DH has actually been making me crazy a bit so I'm a tad jealous of all of you. But overall, I'd say the nicest thing he's done was make me feel o.k. about leaving my secure job to be a contractor at my old company. He said - let me worry about me and you- you just worry about the baby. It was sweet at the time. And when he saw my belly the other day he thought I was begining to show and he said that he was so proud of it.... :)

Appointment today:

I'm up one pound from a month ago - still 2 lbs down overall. Doctor was ok with that. BP looks much better. Whew! And, I got to see the lil' monkey again. I think she does u/s on every visit. She tried to do a vag u/s, but the head was directly over my cervix, thankyouverymuch. No wonder I've had more pressure down there - crazy. So, I had my first abdominal u/s. I can't believe she could see bebe under all my *padding*. Heh. Anyhow, bebe has started to catch up in size. I was measuring about a week behind consistently. I'm 15w/2d today. Bebe measured 14w/5d, so (s)he's movin on up. And bebe waved. I saw the lil' fingers and everything. Amazing! I can already tell bebe is a naughty lil' monkey... just dancin' around in there. I left the doctor's office on Cloud 9. :D

Has anyone seen Ann AKA ausmarchbride? I have not seen her posts in a few days and am a little worried.

Aren't you sweet to be worrying about me, thank you.

I'm fine, just been pretty busy with the social life. I sort of stayed low key and didn't socialise too much when we were doing the IVF cycle, and then I was soooo sick the first 3 months that I couldn't go out much. So now I'm trying to ensure that potential babysitters ;) (also known as "friends") remember us :D

I'd love to get involved with all the maternity clothes buying you guys have been doing online, it's such cute stuff. Most of the shops however don't ship outside the USA, and your sizing is very different from ours. It's all too hard to return stuff if it doesn't fit. So I'll just admire all your selections from afar :D

edsbabyrhi
Does anyone else have a super overdeveloped gag reflex? The slightest things like coughing hard (which I do fairly often cause I have asthma) and gargling too long in the AM send me to the toilet to throw up

Oh that's me too. Coughing starts the dry heaves with me. But my super overdeveloped gag reflex is trumped by my innate hatred of vomiting. So I cough, then gag like a crazy woman (you know when you see a dog about to be sick, it's stomach starts heaving like the hiccups? That's me. Very attractive  ) But then I manage to stop myself from vomiting (I think it's sheer willpower) and just sit there feeling nauseous again.

But my real gag-inducer is raw meat. Still can't go into the butcher, can't cook raw meat. My poor DH is being so patient but I'm sure he'd love a steak :) But if he wants one, he's going to have to buy, prepare and eat it not near me.

angelgirl I know I posted in your LJ, but you are one CUTE mum-to-be :D

Hi to everyone else. I'm also a bit slack about replies because I hate coming in here and not doing shoutouts to everyone, so I wait another day and then there's loads more posts to reply to. So then I put off replying again etc etc etc Vicious circle.

Me: Had my 2nd OB visit on Friday. Very quick, weighed and she poked and prodded my abdomen for a couple of mins, then got out the doppler, heard baby's H/B and that was it.

I go for my next ultrasound on 21st September.

edsbabyrhi

Well my Mom came down to visit today and took me maternity shopping. $250 later and I have the start of a wardrobe of clothes that actually fit me and look good. Although I think its amazing how PG i look in maternity clothes, esp when you compare to a normal hoodie (what I was wearing today). The rest of the day was just a rainy Sat relaxing. Also taking care of our 1 dog. We have 2 a pug and a boston terror. The pug has these stomach episodes once in a while where she can't keep anything down and acts like a big baby (wants to be in your lap, etc) all day. She's in my lap right now laying on my arm as I type. I know they will have to readjust when the baby comes but I hope we will still be able to give them some attention now and then.
Any other pet thoughts?

glad to hear all is well in australia! where will you get maternity clothes?

islandgirl Congrats on being all in maternity clothes, but given that you are so tiny and you're carrying twins, I'm not surprised. :D

where will you get maternity clothes?

We do have them here, it's not that backward ;) I'll just get mine from the shops. I was just envying the selection that you US based ladies have, we have a much much smaller population therefore the choices are smaller.

edsbabyrhi Congrats on your maternity wardrobe also, how fun that your mum went shopping with you. I don't have any pets but I'd love to get a dog. However, I think I'll wait now, don't want to be housetraining a puppy and heavily pregnant ;)

Hi to everyone else, hope those babies are cooking along nicely.

I also hope none of you are in New Orleans, or down that way. What I see on the news looks awful.

Ann- I am glad everything is ok with you. I think Igot used to your early morning posts :D

I also hope anyone down in New Orelans/Mississippi area is safe adn sound.

vent Sorry but i need to vent for a minute. This is sort of a long stroy, so i wil try to abbreviate it. I used to be friends with this girl a million years ago (reason we were friends mostly is bc our mothers were friends). Anyway she got married about 9 years ago and made me her MOH adn then made me her son's God Mother. Fast forward a few years- she just became a compelte and utter B---h. Everything was about what i would do for her and her son. I never aksed for a lot- but when i grew up my mom always made me travel to my God PArents' house to wish them a merry christmas or call them to say happy birthday, etc. WIth this person- she made me responsible for EVERYTHING. With that said- I will admit, I could have been a more active God Mother- i don't want to toally make myself look innocent. Anyway- we tried to work things out prior to my wedding last Sept. I even tried to include her the wedding. I asked her to do a church reading- she never responded to my request; I invited her to the bachlorette party- she never RSVP'd; she did not come to my bridal shower. Then I heard rumors she did not want to come to my wedding at all. She came to the wedding. I am so sorry to say this in public bc it is so catty- but she gave me the cheapest gift ever. I felt like she should have at least given me the same amount of $$$ that I gave her 8 years earlier. She gave me half of what i gave her. We have not spoken since the wedding. I saw her yesterday at a mutual friend's baby shower. We said hello to eachother and that was it. But she knows I am pg and did not say congratulations. At one point some other girls at the table with us started congratulating me and she dtill did not say anything. I think that is just ill-will. Perfect strangers say congratulations. Anyway- that sort of ends the book on that friendship. I have to admit that I am glad she took the low road- bc now i have no regrets. Thanks for reading

I need to go nap, but wanted to check in quickly.

* My AFP results came this weekend - normal. Whew! I really wasn't worried, but you know how that goes.

* Made the decision to find my puppy (4 months) a new home last week. Luckily, my mom wants him. I just am not doing the right things for him as far as excercise, etc. and he deserves someone with energy. I have none.

* Going to the urologist today about the UTI's I just can't get rid of. I'm a little nervous about it all. Hoping I won't have to take antibiotics through the rest of my pregnancy.

All of the maternity clothes you ladies are posting are so cute! I feel so far away from needing them. I know that I'm going to need them, hate the ones I have from last time and then get grumpy shopping for new ones.

roe - I get so dissapointed in old friends sometimes. Sometimes it's better to just write them off. I would just send your God Daughter a card on Chritmas & Birthdays to let her know that you do think of her.

Ok - time to nap now. Stay safe.

Happy Monday ladies -
lynn sorry you had to get rid of your puppy. Sounds like you did the right thing though. I'm glad he'll be with your mom.

angelgirl8 I'm almost 16 weeks and also threw up this weekend. And it was probably one of the worse vomiting incidents I have. I keep hoping that I'll feel better soon.

roe UGH! Thanks for venting- sorry you had to deal with that.....

Also, wanted to update that this weekend my sweet husband did all the grocery shopping, laundry and vacuuming! I was so grateful! Felt a little guilty for my vent on Friday. I'm envious of all the shopping that has been going on. I'm still not ready to make any maternity moves yet. :) Thinking good thoughts for our friends on the Gulf coast.

Hi Ladies --

Hope everyone had a good, safe weekend. Nothing too new to report here. Been on BabyPlus.com reading about the size of the kid (4 inches), which still amazes me. And I love all the food references. This week he's the size of an avocado. Next week a large onion. One week it was a giant shrimp, which was by far the oddest food reference.

QOTD answer - My Benny has been amazing in a lot of ways, though I find him emotionally more demanding now (in a very cute way, he's constantly talking to my flabby belly when all I want to do is cover it up.) Anyway...he rinsed the dishes the other night when I went to bed with a killer headache but somehow they did not find their way into the dishwasher  . However, he did clean the bathroom last week (first time I have ever seen him clean a toilet so I took a picture!) He always gets me anything I ask for and has picked up cooking a ton more (I just have no interest in cooking right now). I feel very lucky that he's been so great - for the most part!

Headaches Anyone else having a few a week? I had two last week - total killers - and from what I hear headaches stick around until week 18 (bleeech).

Roe - I find it very difficult to keep up with old friends, especially when they have disappointed me - in my old age. Sorry you had to deal with her at the shower.

Lynn - Sorry about the pup. I would have taken the dog if I lived close!!!

LooLoo - I'm a broken record, but I really do hope this goes away for you soon.

Angelgirl - Let us know how the sonogram goes!! Can't wait til week 20 so we can see the kid again! Glad you habve ahd good luck with clothes. I find it all really frustrating. Nothing seems to fit right. I'm going to need some serious help in the clothes dept (as usual!!)

jenna - How exciting!! He waved! That is so cute...

ann...hee hee, pregnant brain? you called me islandgirl

Ahhh, sorry about that. Yep, that's baby brain kicking in. I'd like to say it's the first example of baby brain, but that would be a filthy lie :D We don't have much in the way of winter maternity clothes around, it's all summer stuff now. Our winter ends tomorrow and the weather is already quite warm, it was 62F overnight and 70F during the day. So we're on our way to summer.

Enjoy your sonogram tomorrow, I hope you get lots of nice pics and views. I'm sorry to hear you're still throwing up. I said to my DH about my morning sickness, you know what, worst case I have it until February, best case, it goes away earlier. It'd be nice if I knew the end date for it, say 25th October or whatever, would make it easier to get through I think.

lynnh Congrats on your good AFP results. I know what you mean, even though you're not worried it lurks in the back of the mind. I really hope your doc can sort out the UTIs, they are so not fun.

LooLoo I'm sorry to hear you're still throwing up also, hope it goes away. And your DH sounds like an absolute gem, how nice to do all that for you.

meatpie LOVE the food references. I don't get/have Babyplus so I've not seen that. I'm sorry you're having the killer headaches, I hoope they stop very soon. I'm prone to hormonal migraines every month and have so far only had 1 headache this whole pregnancy and I'm loving it.

I hope everyone else is doing well and all those yucky first trimester symptoms have lessened.

angelgirl and any other NY ladies, I've a question for you.

My in-laws are going to NY in October/November, and my MIL is hucking my DH about finding out what sex the baby is because she wants to go to the "Grandmothers Dept" at Macy's.

Now, my in-laws have been going to the US a couple of times a year for about 30yrs so I know she knows her shops. But do they really have a dept at Macy's where the grandmothers can go and indulge themselves?

meatpie- I have also been suffering from God Awful headaches. I was not sure if they were sinus related or prego related. In any event it totally sucks bc the Tylenol does noting to eleviate the problem. I hope i remember to mention the headaches to my doc when i go this Friday.

Ann - I am not in NYC- but live vey close. I don't know about the Macy's having a grandma dept.- but i would not be surprised. If they don't- it's probably a good idea to start one. Your MIL might be onto something....While she's at it- maybe you can hint to her to stop at Tiffany, burberry, Louis Vuitton. ;) They have really cute baby stuff. Well I don't know about LV-but I had to throw that in there.

Roe come on- babies need purses don't they? LOL!

meatpie I also love the food references. I saw that shrimp one also and laughed- I don't know why - but picturing my little baby as a shrimp cracks me up.

AusMarchBride I like your attitude. You're right- the MS will go away sometime either now- or in February but some time! ;) It's a little strange to think your winter is just ending when we are almost in to Fall here. I have never heard about a grandmother's store at macys but you'll have to keep us posted!

I took a prenatal yoga class last night. I had never taken yoga before, but I've been working with a personal traininer for the past 4 months and a lot of what we do was the same. It was lots of stretching and some balance. There were some 30+ weeks pregnant ladies in my class and they had better balance than me! It was good. I didn't LOVE the class, but I can see how it will help once things start to ache more. We did squats and kegel excercise and lots of things designed to make labor - easier.

angelgirl I hope the sonogram goes well!

Roe come on- babies need purses don't they? LOL!

Maybe they don't but their mummies sure do :D

I'm glad you enjoyed the yoga class, I'll have to look into that, see if there's some around here.

roe I like the other shopping ideas you had :D I'll have to have a look online to see what Tiffany, Burberry & Louis Vuitton sell. We have a Tiffany here but it really only sells jewellery, what do they sell in NY for babies? Personally, I'd be happy to accompany my in-laws to NY to help them with selections (even though my MIL has impeccable taste), they need me surely to carry the bags or something.

Sorry you are still having the headaches, there's definitely some parts to this whole pregnancy deal that aint so good.

Ann Tiffany has some very nice baby stuff... silver rattles, spoons, cups, etc. I think your MIL should have you come carry the bags. :) While there you can say hi to Angel. :D I think she lives in NY Here's the link to Tiffany's baby stuff.

Welcome Elizabeth!

Meatpie & roe - I've been getting nasty headaches too. They don't come until after 1:00 and last all day. I've been trying to drink more water, but I'm not sure that's it.

I hope all of you with continues m/s start feeling better soon! I've never thrown up, but have gotten a bit of a sick feeling once in a while. I consider myself lucky.

Well, the Urologist has put me on meds for the rest of my pregnancy because of these darn UTI's. I guess it's good since it'll help me not go into preterm labor, but I'm so bad at remembering to take medicine! And, he wants me to take one pill every other day. Would have been easier just to take it every day!

Angelgirl - any news on the sonogram? Or did I goof up the date and you just haven't had it yet? It's hard for me to keep this all straight still.

Bbbethie- Welcome!!

angelgirl8- The u/s pics are amazing! You have two beautiful babies in there! I can't wait to get my next ultrasound! Hope you start feeling better soon.

Ann- I wish my baby's grandparents were so enthusiastic about buying stuff for the baby. I am praying that my shower is a good turnout or else we are in trouble, i hope that doesn't sound too bad  My MIL is pretty generous, especially compared to my mom (she isnt the spoilling type), however she does have a 1 year old of her own so her priorities are a bit different which I totally understand.

Nothing too new except for the fact that you can count me in for one that gets those nasty headaches. And now as if I'm not putting up with enough my back is killing me!

Welcome BBbethie!

Angelgirl- BEAUTIFUL babies! Just gorgeous! (I love the "Hi Mom and Dad XOXO!)

Looloo- How great that you took a prenatal yoga class. Lately I have not been able to get off my rear end. I have a balance ball and pre-natal exercise book, but have not been able to get motivated. Oh well, maybe tomorrow. :(

Meatpie, Roe and Lynnh- I thought I had gotten lucky and not had any baby related sickness. Well, I will join your headache club. It is so difficult to concentrate at work when it seems that every afternoon I get these throbbing headaches.

Lynnh- I am glad they are able to give you some medicine to prevent the UTIs. You should be so much more comfortable now! :)

Yeah, grandparent spoiling. I know that our child is going to be SO spoiled by his(her?) grandparents. Although you ladies and the Tiffany's baby items I am very impressed by! ;)

Oh dear, I am so behind! I just wanted to check in really quickly and say that everything is going well on my end. I have my free u/s on Tuesday and I am pretty psyched about that. My friend that works at the place said that they arent' able to determine gender with the machine they are training on so I was kind of bummed about that. But I will definitely not complain about getting another peek at the munchkin!

Welcome to Bbbethie!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I have a couple general questions for you guys...I'm so excited about being able to speak with people who are approximately as far along as I am! First of all, have any of you felt the baby moving yet? I'm wondering if maybe I've felt the baby the past couple days. I don't want to get excited if it is just gas! Second, for those who are going to learn the sex of the baby, how far along will you be when you have the big ultrasound? I had one small ultrasound at 12 weeks but now they want me to wait until 24 weeks for the big one. That seems like too far away!

aligirl
08-31-2005, 11:13 AM
Welcome Elizabeth! I haven't felt the baby yet. I'm looking forward to it - dr told me 18-19 weeks and I should feel the baby move. My "big" u/s is at 19w, 5d.... 24 weeks seems late to me too but every dr is different! So what do you think you're having??

Angelgirl: LOVELY babies - just lovely!!! :)

Not much new here - just working a lot

Oh - the big news here - heartburn has set in. YUCK.

And, fatigue is back. I think it may be that I overdid it this past weekend. We were out late each night. I actually called in sick yesterday from exhaustion - and slept all day.

I think I may have FINALLY gained 1 lb. Woo hoo. Hopefully my dr will be happier with me! :) We'll see what the weight tells me when I weigh myself again next Tuesday (they told me to just do it once a week, at the same time). I'm almost afraid this means a big weight gain - but if I gain an average of 1 lb a week, that's only 23 lbs total - so that's not so bad.

cgriffin
08-31-2005, 11:41 AM
Bbbethie- I thought I felt the baby move once but I was half asleep so I couldn't really tell. But like aligirl said I hear it usually happens around 18 or 19 weeks. I have my "big" ultrasound around 20 weeks. I still have to schedule it but I know it will be before 9/28. For me 24 weeks sounds late (only because I have no patience) but I have heard of some women who's docs waited till 24 weeks as well so I'm sure its normal.

I haven't felt any movement yet but I am only 15 weeks so it is early. At my big u/s, I will be about 22 weeks along.

aligirl
Ugh, that stinks about the heartburn, but awesome about only gaining 1 lb! 23 pounds sound great to me!

LRL
08-31-2005, 12:11 PM
BBbethie- Just wanted to say that my doctor also wants to wait a long time- 28 weeks for me. I am going to request an earlier one, as an anomalie scan should usually be done at 18-20 weeks, but sometimes is done at 22 weeks. 28 weeks is the THIRD trimester. That does not sound right to me at all. You might want to ask your doctor, (as I am going to do) for an earlier one.

Part of my anxiety of course is to see the baby, but the other part of me thinks that this might be negligent of the doctor. I guess I will have to see what happens at my next appointment on the 13th of Sept.

LooLoo02
08-31-2005, 12:41 PM
Angelgirl: Your babies are adorable! Thanks for posting!! That is just so cool. I will say that they look a lot like my baby. (ha! ha!).

Aligirl Yay on the pound!!!!! I hope that means that you are feeling better...

BBbethie- Welcome! I haven't felt the baby move yet- but I read it happens between 16-20 weeks (more like 18-20). I'll be excited when that happens.

I haven't even scheduled my "big" ultrasound yet- but I'm thinking I'll do it at my next appointment - September 7. Not too much going on. I'm also getting headaches- and still not feeling that second trimester mysticalness.

Just checking in... Once again I am pitifully behind and can't possibly do all the s/o's that I want to.

Welcome BBbethie! My big u/s won't be until 22 weeks which sounds late to me just because I'm impatient!! :D I guess every doctor is different....

Angelgirl - Thanks for sharing the pix of your beautiful babies! It helps me imagine what mine must look like about now (although I'm a little bit behind you).

And to answer some of the old questions floating around here...

I'm with you girls on the gagging and the headaches. Both of those symptoms seemed to have picked up now that the m/s (dare I say it out loud?) seems to be tapering off a bit. Ugh. I guess it will always be something! And even though I'm sorry to hear that some of you are suffering too - somehow it's comforting to know I'm not alone!

I have to take a minute to share what a saint my hubby has been through all of this so far. He's taken on the cooking (just easy stuff, but he's happy to run through drive-thru's for random cravings too!), some of the cleaning, the grocery shopping, and just generally waits on me hand and foot. He even went shopping with me for maternity clothes. I'm so spoiled, I know. I don't know how I would've survived these last few months without him.

Okay, that's all I have time for right now... Hope everyone is feeling better and feeling those babies kick soon!!

I'm behind as well. I have a big conference next week at work and I have just been working like crazy, along with starting to re-arrange the house so we can start on the nursery.

Welcome BBbethie & anyone else I might have missed!! My big u/s is schedule for the 14th. I will be 16w3d. I asked my Dr. yesterday to make sure that I would be able to find out and she said this is when they do it in their practice. I'm thrilled! Hopefully the baby won't be shy! :)

I have finally been able to eat! Althought I have been getting headaches quite often. I am up a pound from last week so that's good.

We order the nursery furniture last weekend. It will be in in 12 weeks at the latest. I'm happy we found that out sooner than later. It will be Thanksgiving when it should get it.

Hope all of you have a great day!

Good morning all!

Okay I have to start off my telling my little story of feeling the baby yesterday!!!! I thought I had been feeling movement the last week or so, but yesterday driving home I knew I was definately feeling the baby move. I was sitting at a stop light and I just pushed a little bit on my belly, and I guess the baby was right there b/c he/she moved very suddenly and I jumped b/c it scared me and I must have scared he/she b/c it was such a big movement....I am still smiling about it. I was 17 wks on Tues. so hopefully I will start feeling the movement consistantly now.

bbethie welcome....my big u/s is scheduled for the 12th I will be one day shy of 19wks, I think most drs try to schedule it b/w 18 and 22 wks, and around the 20th wk is supposed to be the best time to see gender, so I would ask your dr about that.

angelgirl those babies are so cute, I can't remember if you are going to find out what you are having???

Hope everyone else is doing okay, I will try to do more s/o to everyone later.

Have a good day!!!

angelgirl - the u/s pics are amazing. I am sure it made everyone so much more excited for their u/s. I know i cannot wait for my big one- which has not been scheduled yet.

bbbethie Welcome to the boards!!!! As far as movement- i felt a flutter a couple of weeks ago (was not sure if it was gas or not) and have not really felt anything since then. I honestly cannot wait for my dr. appt tomorrow to hear the h/b again.

I guess i better go catch up on work that i missed yesterday :(

So we are having a baby BOY! :D

All along I was convinced it would be a girl, then I got an overwhelming feeling as I was driving to my appointment that it would be a boy. (I guess it's a 50/50 shot) The doctor said everything looks good and he is measuring 3 days ahead which puts me around January 29. He was 2 or 3 days ahead at my last ultrasound too. I am just very happy that he is healthy in there. It always makes DH and I nervous when the doctor is poking around with the ultrasound wand getting measurements but not really saying anything. And now I have to start focusing on boy things. I was obsessed with pink and green bedding.

I've also started feeling movement the last week or so. At first I thought it could be gas bubbles. But the movement doesn't always come along with gas. ;) He seems to be most active at night. I hope I don't have a night owl on my hands.

And my belly is finally starting to pop out. It seemed to happen within the last 3 or 4 days. I'll be back with belly shots.

I wish I had a scanner so I could post a pic of him.

I have to cath up here again. Hope all the February Mommies are doing well! :)

Hello Ladies!!!

Glensgirl - Congrats on the boy! Do you have a name picked out yet??? Please show us your belly!!

jenryan - How exciting!!! I think I may have felt the lil guy/gal Tuesday, it was a definite flutter and a bit different from all my gassy feelings, but I'm not sure. How's that for being in tune with my preggo body!!

jordan - Sorry about the headaches but happy you can finally eat! Funny...my stomach has felt a bit queasy lately after escaping the entire first tri with no m/s...And I can't believe you ordered the nursery furniture. Can you post a picture. I'm so curious to see what you bought!!!

Bought my first diaper bag the other day from babystyle.com. I LOVE all that is brown and so I had to buy the thing - plus it was on sale. Anyway...I'm not a bag girl but I can't seem to stay away from diaper bags. I almost bought another last weekend?!?!

Any Labor Day plans? Headed to MN to visit the in-laws is all for us. It will be a nice trip because we get to see a good friend of the hus' and it looks like MIL wants to take me maternity shopping. But we are also going to see my Benny's 84-year-old grandpa and he's in poor health - well mentally he is. Physically he is fine, but he has trouble remembering and it's going to be very hard on my Benny. He's nowhere near the same man he was, and he was sharp, sharp, sharp. Sorry for the vent. Anyway...any fun plans out there?

Jenryan- Yeah! You felt the baby! I was laying in bed looking at crib brochures last night, and I felt a little push too! SO exciting! I guess we were both all smiles last night! ;)

Glensgirl- Congrats on the Baby BOY! I am sure you will find some cute boy stuff to replace the pink and green. I guess we will all soon be adding the gender! Can't wait to see an ultrasound pic and a belly shot!!! :)

Meatpie- I'm sorry to hear about DH's grandfather. I hope you have a good weekend with family!

Labor Day plans- We are taking DH mother on a cruise next week. It is a short one, 4 days down to Mexico. I haven't taken any vacation in over a year, so this should be great. I just have to remember not to eat anything in Ensenada! We are also going to try and catch the King Tut exhibit in LA before we head back up, (Goodness, I live for these exhibits! It really brings out the supressed archaeologist in me.)

Have a happy Thursday everyone!

I've been reading just have had no energy to post so of course I'm way too far behind for proper shout-outs.

Glensgirl - Congratulations on your baby boy! How exciting to know!

I'm still on bedrest. It's getting old really fast, it's been almost 4 weeks now with a toddler. I go back to the doctor on Tuesday and I really really hope I am able to get off bedrest. I'm still bleeding but it's all old/dark blood with some clots which I hope means the clot is passing through my body and is resolving itself.

We have no plans for Labor Day since I'm still on bedrest. I wish we could go do something, anything but I'm stuck sitting around here. We are buying a new vehicle and should have it by the end of the long weekend. We're getting a Toyota Sienna, we've been eyeing it for a while now and my SUV is just a money eating machine in more ways the one at this point so it just makes sense. That's the only exciting thing going on around here.

glensgirl Congrats on your baby boy!!!!

meatpie So sorrry to hear about DH's grandfather. I wasn't going to order furniture this early, until I heard about the 12 week order time. Having it the end of November is still a bit early, but I didn't know if the holidays would delay anything. We ordered the crib, changing table with hutch and a 5 drawer chest (which they don't have a picture of). The armoire only had a closet bar on the inside and no shelves which I didn't like.

Glensgirl - Congrats on your baby boy!

OUR UPDATE:

We had our second dr. appt on Tuesday and we got to hear jrs. heartbeat.
It was absolutely amazing!! I could have listened to it all day long. I
actually kept replaying the sound in my head through out the day.

I also rented a doppler from www.babybeat.com for $30/month for 3 months!! Now I can just listen to jrs. little heart beating away.
I can't wait for it to get here!!

You could also hear him/her sloshing around inside me in between picking
up the heartbeat. WOW!! Don had the biggest grin on his face I have ever
seen!! He is such a proud papa!!

Everything else is looking good. All of my blood tests came back clear, I
do need to get vaccinated for German Measles after I give birth, but that
was it. I am measuring right along based on where I am at.

We have decided to go ahead and do the triple screen test - since it's
just a blood test and non-invasive. I am sure everything will be fine.

We scheduled our BIG ultrasound for Tuesday, Oct 4. I am still undecided if we are going to find out the gender. Not
really sure what to do. I think I want to wait and have it be a surprise - however, it seems as though Don wants to know.

Oh, and our next appt it set for Sept 30

Well, just wanted to post an update from the doctor.

Hope you are all having a great day!!

LRL I love the Munire cribs and they were top rated in Baby Bargins, which did go into the decision.

cgriffin I was actually surprised to find out that the prices were similar to the lifetime cribs at BRU. I ordered from www.usababy.com. I figure when it's something that you don't have to replace in 2-3 years you can spend a bit more.

jordan- Thanks for the info. I just visited the website for Munire and found that they were located only about an hour or so from me. I wonder if the sell them directly or only distribute their furniture to other stores....I'll prob. end up calling and asking them. Thats great about the price because I was thinking about the Lifetime crib from BRU but I really wanted something a little different.

LRL - I'm in LA as well!!! We should get together sometime. I've been on a RC 4-day cruise to Ensenada with college friends and our men and we had a blast. Have fun and I hear the Tut exhibit is great, especially if you did not see the first tour some 26 eyars ago.

angelgirl8 Hope your results come back quickly and right on target. :)

Sorry I don't have time for individual shoutouts. Just a quick post.

If you have nationalgeorgraphic channel on your tv (cable, us), you might want to watch a great show tonight. In The Womb is on, and it is fantastic! it's 2 hours about the development of the baby in the womb. It's only about the baby, has amazing 3d and 4d pictures (4d is 3d with time added). I highly recommend it and am watching it again tonight.

Hi ladies, hope you're all doing well.

Astro That show sounds fascinating, pity they won't show it here.

angelgirl Hope you get great thryoid results next week. How's the M/S?

roe6373 Happy anniversary to you and your DH

meatpie Glad the cruise was good, sounds fantastic. I've never been on a cruise, they're not so common down here and the one's that do exist are hideously expensive. I actually think it's cheaper for us to fly to the US and then take a cruise from there, than do a cruise directly out of Australia

The Future You had a great doctor's appointment, hearing that heartbeat is just wonderful. Sounds like your DH was thrilled, just like mine :D

Kellymb75 I'm so sorry you are still on bedrest, it must be so frustrating.

LRL More cruising people, I'm quite envious. Hope you have a great time.

I'm not sure if I've felt the bub or not. Maybe it's gas, maybe the baby. Although I think it's the baby. It's an odd sensation whatever it is :D

DH and I had a wonderful time choosing nursery stuff and prams on the weekend. We'll order it in a little while, but we found a great shop with a lady who spent two hours with us on Sunday going through the major purchases (car seat, pram, crib, portacot) and giving us the pros and cons of each brand. So we decided on

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

I'm home alone today and tomorrow, cause DH is doing a repipe job. Ah well... more $$ for the bebe fund. :) I dared to step into BRU and boy, did I regret it! Their staff is so ridiculously incompentent. I won't bore you with the details, but they did have a 10% off sale, ending today, on Shermag gliders and ottomans, so I (EVENTUALLY) got a raincheck on the super-dooper-deluxe model to order once it's back in stock. Yay! :D Of course, in the process I had to get a little preggo-tude with a woman who would not butt out of my business while I was trying to order. Don't mess with the preggo lady, folks!

I'm doing well, except I have a UTI. Having a lot of pelvic and back pain/discomfort yesterday. I ran errands all yesterday and was just exhausted. I think I overdid it a bit. I did get a lot done yesterday - pedicure and bought a ton of new bras and undies that *fit*. Amazing how much better one feels when one's undergarments fit.

We bought a king-size bed last weekend, upgrading from a queen. What a difference! Now, there's room for me, my bed-hog hubby, ALL of my pillows and our two kitties - with room left over. It's a super-plush mattress and it's so much more comfy to sleep on my side now.

OK - time for dinner!

16 weeks on Sunday

Cross-posted to IVF Anyone, Feb2006 Mommas, Mothers of Multiples, and Pregnancy after Infertility.

Hi all. I do not want to retype this as we've just been through the worst 12 hours in our lives. Here's the short story.

I started cramping Thursday evening. Bled a little (not much, but red blood) on Friday morning, went to the MAternal Fetal Specialist and they could find nothing wrong. The kids were moving around, their hearts were going strong, they measured on track. The specialist checked the placentas (all good) and my cervic (long, tight, closed). The cramping died down a bit as did the bleeding (old blood spots, not new blood). Saturday and Sunday I felt better.

Now's the bad part. About 10:30pm on Sunday, I strated getting very sharp difficult pains for 1-2 minutes every 3-10 minutes. We called the OB on call that night. He was to return our call in 20 minutes. Within that time, I went to the bathroom (felt a gush), and delivered the first baby in the toilet. The Dr called, we said we were on our way to emergency. He said he'd meet us there and we'd go directly to labor and delivery. The 2nd baby was born about 30 minutes later. We waited 3 hours for the placentas, but they never appeared. At about 4am, I was taken to surgery for a D&C.

The kids (two boys) were absolutely perfect (but stillborn). They measured correct and looked so good. We named them Steven Alexander and Ryan Philip. We're currently trying to work out the details for their cremation.

Please remove me from all lists EXCEPT the IVF Anyone board. I plan to return there eventually to try again. For now, my DH (that doesn't even come close to my feelings for him at this time) and I are going to concentrate on healing ourselves. I will probably be reading/lurking, and I wish you all the best.

thanks.

I just got back from my appointment. No u/s today but I have one in two weeks with a perintatal group. It's the same place I went for the very first u/s this pregnancy. Same doctor too and I really like him so that should go well. We heard the heartbeat again, nice and strong between 158-162 and the little bugger was moving around making it hard to hear, just like Morgan.

I have more info about what's going on, not sure how well I'll get this written out though. I have a subchorionic bleed that is sitting between my placenta and the wall of my uterus. I have placenta previa, the not so great kind. My previa is completely around and below my cervix. It's less likely to resolve itself then the other previas that they see where the cervix isn't completely covered. My chances of needing a c-section are higher because of that. She told me that by around 18 weeks they can have a good idea of what will probably happen.

Still on bedrest, no pelvic anything, I can do things with Morgan but I cannot pick her up at all. She told me if I promised to rest as much as possible she would say that I could probably get up a little more then before but still go slow and not do too much for at least another 2 weeks until the u/s and my follow-up appt. with her.

My u/s is 9/19 at 8:30 and my follow-up with her is 9/20 at 8:20. I will of course have a lot more information by then and we should know if this is a girl or boy at that point as well. She told me to also just page the OB on call if I can't get through to their office ASAP if I'm having severe cramping or bleeding really really badly. She didn't seem to think that it was great that I was passing clots but she also said that it could also mean that the previa is moving up and giving the "bubble" which is the blood clot room to pass. She said it didn't make much more sense to do another u/s right now since we know what we're dealing with when it 2 weeks we'll have even more answers. I tend to agree with her.

If I'm not making sense, PLEASE asks questions, I'm still trying to figure it all out too.

I plan to read what I've missed and come back in a few if DD allows me too.

I'm still having horrid headaches as well. I hate to say it but I had them through the majority of my last pregnancy. I'm taking tylenol and chasing it with a bit of caffeine, it usually does the trick and was recommended to me by my doctor.

tinagirl26
09-06-2005, 04:23 PM
Headaches - Me too, me too! I spent part of Saturday and all of Sunday with a splitting headache. I finally caved and took some tylenol which helped a little. They hit me every 3 or 4 days or so - alternating with the nauseous days.

I had my 3rd appointment today and finally met my new doctor. So far I like her. :) Nothing new to report - I finally gained a few pounds and the baby's heart is still beating away (of course I already knew that since I rented a doppler weeks ago!). My next appointment is Oct 19th and they will be doing the big ultrasound then. I can hardly wait!

kellymb75 - Hang in there, girl! I can only imagine how hard it must be to be on bedrest with a little one running around! Praying your placenta previa resolves itself and you are back on your feet again soon.

AusMarchBride

Headaches Oh yes, they've started in the last couple of weeks for me. Delightful

kelly I'm sorry they've still got you on bedrest, must be so frustrating especially with your toddler running around. I'll have my fingers crossed that the placenta previa starts to resolve itself.

jennapeach Oh isn't it wonderful having a king size bed. We bought one about 18mths ago (upsized from a queen size when we moved house) and I love it. I think I'm going to be very glad of it by the end of this pregnancy as it'll be really hot here then (end of our summer).

For me, nothing exciting to report at all. Which is a good thing :)

jennapeach Oh the joys of a king sized bed. Ours accomidates all my pillows, my DH plus our 2 dogs. Although they will be kicked to their cages soon, the pug is fighting me for pillows every night.

headaches YES! I am blaming mine on sinuses/allergies, which are really bad here right now.

Wierd dreams anyone?

roe6373
09-07-2005, 06:05 AM
headaches- yes, yes, yes. Tylenol does not seem to help. However, I do have some caffeine each day which i think helps a little.

baby furniture - MY SIL offered us her daughter's old baby furniture which is about 3.5 years old. we looked at it over hte weekend and decided to take it. The furniture is white and has little paintings from Peter Rabbit. The set includes a crib, a dresser (which doubles as a changing table), a tall dresser, a toy chest, and a glider w/ ottoman. Once we move it out of her place and into ours, I will take pictures to post.

swollen Ca-nkles i sufferd from swollen ankles last night. anyone else? It seemed kind of early for swelling. I blame it on my activities from the day before- I sat in the car for 2 hours each way to Atlantic City and then was on my feet the entire time we were there. I did some yoga exercises last night to eleviate the swelling. It seemed to have wokred. I don't think i will call the dr. yet unless is gets bad again. Any suggesstion on what to do while i sit on my arse all day at work?

roe6373- You dont have to answer this if its too specific but where in NJ do you live. I grew up in Lawrenceville and now live across the river in PA but still really close to Trenton. When you said it took you 2 hours to get to AC I was wondering if you lived by me..??

aligirl
09-07-2005, 06:15 AM
Headaches - yep! Oh they can be terrible - tylenol helps a little but caffeine is (unfortunately) best!

Heartburn - that's my latest complaint. Yuck. Maalox and Mylanta are the names of my 2 new best friends...... and Pepto isn't too far behind!!!

Cankles ;) - I'm noticed some swelling if I sit for too long as well. At work, I try to get up and walk around once an hour - if only to fill up my water bottle or glass with water. Sometimes I'll wander to the shop floor and check out production - but I have to be really desperate for that. Those guys can be creepy! I try to rest my feet on something too if I can't get up - it's supposed to keep swelling down. Elevation helps.

Baby furniture - we checked it out this weekend - registered for some at BRU - but I'm still looking. I think I might take it off the registry - see if we can get the same stuff someplace cheaper. I really like what we picked out - should be good for either gender... but something tells me that if we have a girl I'm going to want to change it a little!

Kelly - I'm sooo sorry you're still on bedrest. Like everyone else said, I hope the placenta previa resolves itself and you're up on your feet again soon! Hang in there!

Kellymb75
09-07-2005, 08:20 AM
Thank you all for hoping I am able to be off bedrest soon. I'm not nearly as optimistic about it all as I was. I've actually finally done a bit more research on everything and it's not looking like it's in my favor for the previa to resolve itself since I have full previa rather then partial or other kinds. I hope it does resolve itself but I need to realize that it's not likely so I don't get my hopes up again. I wasn't clear on everything going on before my appointment yesterday so the previa really wasn't on my mind so much.

I haven't been swelling but my BB's are getting really sore again, like sharp pains here and there and it's driving me nuts. I'm wondering if this is more normal after one or more pregnancies because I had none of this with DD.

Holy cow, I am 4 months pregnant!

Kelly
I’ve been taking some Tylenol too when the headaches are too much to concentrate. I will have to try chasing it with some caffeine and see if that helps any! I’m still thinking of you on bedrest and hoping you will be free from it very very soon!

tinagirl
Oct 19! Woohoo, it’ll be here before you know it! How are you liking the Doppler? Have you been able to easily find the heartbeat with it?

Ann
Yes, nothing exciting is a good thing. Uneventful is good. :)

edsbabyrhi
We have a king size bed too and I don’t know how we’d sleep in something smaller! I love it!

roe
Score on the furniture! But that stinks about your ankles! Ack! Is there anyway to elevate your feet a bit at work? I would think even putting them on a stool or something would help. I would make sure to elevate them when you are sleeping too. Also, my doc said the best way to combat swollen ankles is to drink more water so maybe that will help too.

aligirl
LOL, I have been best friends with Mylanta and Maalox for a while now but because of gas. The heartburn hasn’t hit yet!

angelgirl
Awesome news about your thyroid levels! :)

I had my free “model” u/s yesterday morning. I had no idea what to expect so I just went with the flow. There were two ladies in the room training and one person training them. They just looked around for about 20 minutes and worked with the machine then brought hubby in and we got to see what they were looking at.

It’s not just a blob anymore! There is an actual baby in there. So very very cool. Munchkin was moving around quite a bit and kicking me, but I couldn’t feel it. At one point, the tech says, “Did you feel that?!?” I was like, “Nope!” I guess I got a whopper kick or something. Anyway, we saw a head, spine, two arms, two legs, the heart fluttering. It was pretty awesome. Their machine was not so great though so the image was pretty blurry compared to the first u/s that we got at Kaiser. They did some measuring and the baby is measuring perfectly with the due date, down to the day and everything so that was good. I don’t know what the heart rate was and the question of sex never even came up. They were pretty focused on technical stuff with the machine so I didn't ask or push it.

I got a couple of pictures –
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b5d727b3127cce93b6c284fff500000015109AYuWbVu4aO

Ok, the top picture scared the tar out of me at first. It is a front facial shot (on the right side), but hello Skeletor! Geez, nothing like scaring a new mom to death. You can only see the bone structure so it looks like the front of a skull! You can see the eye sockets and the forehead looks ginormous. That may help orient you to the rest of the picture. The light thing at the top is one of the arms. I personally will not be requesting a front facial shot at the next u/s! It kind of reminds me of a gremlin. :D

The bottom picture which I like much better is a profile. If you look closely, you can see the munchkin’s little nose and lips. He/she has a big head yet but hopefully he’ll/she’ll grow into it. :D

We watched the munchkin move all around. At one point, its little feet were crossed over each other. But not for long, because it was kicking me again. The arms were moving a lot too. Ha ha, so I am really paying attention to any possible movement but so far, nothing!

Dreams
Just a few. The one I can really remember is my OB/GYN, who does my annuals but I haven’t even seen this pgnancy, was doing the u/s and told me it was a girl. Weird because she is not a u/s tech!

Headaches - God, yes. It seems like I get one every day. Thankfully, I'm headache-less so far today. But, the day is young. I find that taking Tylenol Rapid Release + a chaser of soda usually does the trick. Of course, this weekend, that did nothing. :(

The king sized bed has been worth every penny thusfar. :D

Swelling - I did have some swelling on a hot day recently. And, I was sitting on our chaise lounge with one foot hanging over the side the other day. When I got up, the foot that was up on the chaise was fine, but the one hanging off the side was HUGE and it hurt. Trying to be conscious of that going forward.

I have noticed two rather unsavory "side-effects" lately. Sorry if it's TMI, but #1: more sweating. Ick! I'm always doing a pit-check to make sure I'm not stankin'. I'm totally paranoid about it. #2: more hair. Not just on my head - everywhere. I'm having to shave twice as often. Think I might just go get waxed and be done with it for a while. I'm not a hairy person normally, so this is freaking me out.

Ah well, I guess you endure these minor irritants for the big pay-off, right?

We got some more quality time with the kid today. Heard the heartbeat 150-55 and then they took blood for the triple test to screen for all those things I don't want to think about.

Funny story - OK. So my bb are out of control. Almost 2 cup sizes larger and I was a 32C beforehand and 5-2 so they were always very prominent on my bod. Well apparently my co-worker and another person who works at the school were talking about fake breasts and celebrities and she actually asked "Your new co-worker, Joanna, do you think hers are real?" My co-worker laughed and said "Oh, yeah they are." I still can't believe it. Apparently she said something about mine being a little unnaturally large for my body.

Next appointment - Sept 28 for the 20-week u/s. I can't believe we'll be halfway done in just three weeks!!!

Mindy Those u/s pictures are amazing (freaky, yes, but amazing ;) )
I suggest not getting a 3-d u/s then. That is REALLY freaky. Sometimes I think we just can do way too much.

Jenna - Not sure you can say TMI here. I'm sweaty too. And hairy, hairy, hairy. So I feel your pain!

Kelly - I hope you get off bedrest really soon as well. I can't even imagine what that would be like, especially with a toddler!

LooLoo - Swollen boobs. Uggghhh. I am already out of my new bras I bought in July. They are sooo out of control. Silly looking sometimes. And they don't move much. Sometimes the Hus comes up to me and just starts to shake me a bit, like you would to wake someone. I look at him and he's just staring at the bbs. Then he yells "They don't move!" Niiiice.

angelgirl - hope the appointment went well. Glad to hear your levels are better.

I'm not sure why but I've been feeling a bit more panicky yesterday and today. I'm really anxious about nothing and I feel off. I have been really tired so most of the afternoon/evening yesterday I spent in bed staring at the ceiling or watching mindless TV. I napped for about 2.5 hours yesterday afternoon and woke up feeling even more anxious/nervous. I've been having cramps again (I get them mostly in the evenings) and every single time I feel a cramp I touch my stomach to make sure I don't feel like I'm having contractions along with them. No real reason, just freaking out. My heart has felt like it's beating faster then normal too. I've been drinking plenty of water and have eaten fairly well. I've probably done less yesterday and today then almost any other days I've been on bedrest and yet I'm feeling totally exhuasted and freaked out.

I hope this feeling goes away soon, I just can't seem to shake it and it's starting to freak me out. Anyone else going through this?

Kellymb75- I am kinda feeling like that as well, maybe to a different degree of it but still. I have been feeling paniky and anxious lately as well but not about anything inparticular. Its not me worrying about the baby or anything its just sometimes I will be sitting there and start feeling anxious all of a sudden. Its wierd but I have just been writing it off as another crappy preggo symptom!

My neighbor called me yesterday to let me know that her 7 month old came down with the chicken pox. Morgan had been playing with her a few days earlier so she wanted us to know, especially since I'm pregnant. I went back and forth like crazy about getting that vaccine but in the end she got it, at this point I'm so thankful she did because this is not a good time for her to get something like that. I had the chicken pox when I was in 3rd grade so we should be fine right? I mean I know kids can still get chicken pox with the vaccine but it's supposed to be a much milder case and a lot less likely, right? Is this something I should call my OB about? I had a nice big case of them so I definitely shouldn't be catching them again but I'm at such a loss since I've had less then a normal pregnancy.

I felt the baby move yesterday!!!!!!!! :D I was talking to my mom and all of a sudden I felt a kick in my side! I yelled for Jay to come over but the baby didn't cooperate. Hopefully, after work we can poke him/her a little bit more and the response will be a kick :) :D

... Also learned that (Jay's) Grandma’s full name is Anastasia Catherine – that she was named after her Aunt Cate! YAY! So now if we’re having a girl, she’s definitely going to be called Cate – Gma is awesome! I’m excited to name a baby after her (if it’s a girl). We all knew her first name but I guess Jay forgot that Catherine was her middle name. I’m such a dork – I’m so excited about that!

aligirl - Yay for feeling the baby move! How would you describe the feeling? I'm beginning to think that I've been feeling the baby for the past week or two. I was worried that it wasn't the baby at first, but I've been feeling it so consistantly that I'm thinking that it actually is the baby. Now I'm just waiting to be able to feel him/her externally so DH can feel also!

HEARTBURN- It has been horrible for me. It was really bad with my DD, it turned into acid reflux. Now that I can't take my Nexium it is really bad. I am taking right now Maximum Strength Zantac 150 twice a day.

Aligirl- YAY :D

So Andy-DH, was able to feel the baby move a week ago, which was my first time feeling a real kick. I haven't really been able to feel anything since then :(

Should I worry?

Woohoo for feeling the baby move! That is so awesome. And FWIW, I love the name Cate and I love that it’s a family name too.

Yes, the profile saved me from totally freaking out!

Oh my gosh, you explained the more hair thing perfectly! I swear I have more hair on my arms, my legs, even my stomach. I looked down the other day at my stomach and was like, “Where did this hair come from?” And I am with you on the shaving!

meatpie
Yay for hearing the heartbeat! I can’t believe your coworkers are talking about your boobs! That is crazy. The boob fairy has yet to visit me. Maybe she came to your house twice!

Thanks for the suggestion of avoiding a 3-D u/s. I will definitely keep that in mind! I don’t want to give myself any more nightmares. ;)

Kelly
I have been a bit anxious the past two days as well. I have bouts of feeling like I am going to crawl out of my skin. cgriffin explained it very well! What is that all about? I give you kudos girl, because I have seen how hard bed rest is on one of my good friends and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Are you getting some help from family and friends?

That is an excellent question about the chicken pox (and so not what you need right now either!) I tend to go along your line of thinking that since you have had them, you should be free and clear, but I don’t know if that is right or not. I think when you are pg, you enter into a whole new world and often times, things don’t make sense.

michiganbride
That is awesome that you felt the baby. I wish I could answer your question but I don't know how much we should be feeling him/her at this stage (especially since I haven't even felt anything yet!) My friend who is about 24 weeks only feels her baby at night when she goes to sleep. Then, my BIL's wife who is around 20 weeks, has a lot of fetal movement. Also, on that National Geographic show, In the Womb, they said that babies sleep 90% of the time in the womb. I don't know if that helps or not!

QOTD--Round Ligament Pain
Can you ladies describe what yours feels like? I *think* I am having round ligament pain but I honestly don't know if that is it or not. Sometimes I have small shooting pains that go up my cervix, then sometimes I have a pain that just feels like a pulled muscle down there.

I am hoping to hear the heartbeat again at my dr's appt tomorrow. And hopefully I didn't gain too much weight either!

Joann- that is a funny story about the bb. Mine were always pretty small- B cup- I don't know what they are now- but I know DH is blown away when he sees me changing. and they are oddly firm

Kelly- I would probably call the dr. about the chicken pox- you cannot be too safe. I am sure you are safe since you had them as a child- but some people do not become immune to them- plus the baby might be at risk if he/she is exposed.

aligirl - congrats on feeling the baby move. I cannot wait. I felt a flutter a few weeks ago- but not much since then and it worried me, but then i hear the hb last week. I think in a few weeks we will ab be feeling litte kicks.

I had my tri screen blood work last week. It's almost been a week and I have not heard anything. I think that may be good news......I am scared to call the dr.'s office to ask.

Baby movement: I felt a kick - it was a weird sensation - but it was definitely a kick! It felt like my whole side moved! I think I've been feeling the fluttering for the last week or so and didn't know what it was - thought it was gas!

Round Ligament Pain: I get the shooting pains too, Mindy. My nurse practitioner said it would feel like that. I also get some uterine stretching pains which feel similar - a pulling type of sensation - and only last a second. Not too much discomfort but it's strange.

jennapeach I too have seen a lot of extra hair on my legs and this might be TMI but a little on my ENORMOUS breasts. ;)

aligirl so excited that you felt the baby move! How totally cool is that!

Kelly I agree with Roe - no harm in calling the doctor. Hopefully all is fine. I hope you are doing o.k. and not panicking as much. You've been through a lot so far- I'm sending you good thoughts.

Mindy I get weird pains sometimes- but sometimes I think it is the uterus growing and sometimes its gas - so i don't think I can help here.

Had my 4 month appointment today. Heard the heartbeat. I LOVE that sound. Gained 2 pounds. I guess that wasn't quite enough because my doctor seemed a little displeased with that. She did say that at least I was going in the right direction though now- so that's good. And we scheduled the BIG ultrasound for next Thursday the 15th. Very exciting.

Thank you all for your kind words and words of advice. I did call my OB and I'm going in tomorrow for a blood test to see if I built up immunity to the chicken pox when I was a child or not. I have no clue what they'll do if I didn't become immune but I'm thinking I probably did. The fun stuff never ends around here. DH's car died on him on his way to work this morning and it's an old piece of junk and isn't worth fixing so he's off with DD shopping for a used commuter car now. We just bought our minivan on Sunday so we are going to be really feeling the money constraints soon.

QOTD - Yesterday I felt similar pains to the one you described for round ligament. It scared me a bit because it was so different than the normal stretching but it didn't last long and was not constant at all. It didn't hurt, but it didn't feel good and it was much stronger than anything I have felt before. I decided if I felt it again today I would call the doctor, but I'll go look up round ligament pain first.

According to BabyCenter Plus (sorry if this is too long...)
What is round ligament pain? It's generally a brief, sharp, stabbing pain or a longer-lasting dull ache that women commonly feel in the lower abdomen or groin, starting in the second trimester of pregnancy. You may feel it as a short jabbing sensation if you suddenly change position, such as when you're getting up from a bed or chair or when you cough, roll over in bed, or get out of the bathtub. Or you may feel it as a dull ache after a particularly active day, say when you've been walking a lot or doing some other physical activity.

The round ligaments support your uterus in your pelvis. As your uterus grows during pregnancy, the ligaments stretch and thicken to accommodate and support it. These changes can occasionally cause you pain on one or both sides of your abdomen. You may feel the pain starting from deep inside your groin, moving upward and outward on either side to the top of your pelvis (where your hips are). The pain is internal, but if you were to trace it on your skin, it would follow the bikini line on a very high-cut bathing suit.

When should I call my doctor or midwife?
The sharp, jabbing type of round ligament pain shouldn't last longer than the few seconds in which you're changing position or getting up. Don't hesitate to call your caregiver any time abdominal aches or pains continue after a short rest or are accompanied by:
• Severe pain or cramping, or more than four contractions in an hour
• Bleeding or spotting, or a change in type or amount of vaginal discharge
• Fever, chills, faintness, or nausea and vomiting

REPLIES
Kelly - I feel anxious every now and then, yes. I completely lost it last night, sctually. Told the hus to just back away for a few minutes because I was just losing my mind. And yes, I could call about the pox as well.

Ali - YEAH!!!! How exciting! I can't wait for that. And I LOVE the name Cate. We still have not figured out names.

Michigan - From what I've read it's not uncommon to feel it sporadically at this point in the pregnancy. They say to worry really late, like third tri when you haven't felt the kid for several days straight. But if it makes you feel better - call. That's my motto!!

Mindy - The boob fairy came more than twice!!

Roe - Mine are so firm they apparently look fake!!! I don't think I could hold out and not call on the blood screening. I think that's part of my recent anxiety. Plus, there is just so much bad news around lately.

Next appt is Sept. 28 u/s and regular checkup!!!

Dropping by to say I am def feeling thr round ligament pain.

Aligirl Yay on baby moving, that must be a great feeling. I am still not detecting anything down there.

Well, my stomach has really popped in the last week. It sticks out farther than my boobs now.

QOTD Can anyone recommend some good maternity underwear? My Vic Sec bikinis are digging into my stomach and I bought some Old Navy pairs but my butt has not grown enough for them to really fir comfortably.

QOTD- My undies were digging into my sides so i went and bought the Old Navy bikini underwear. THey are very comfie- but OMG- I almost died whan i saw the size of them. They really are humungous. i cannot imagine what the over the belly briefs might look like. I actually went to WalMart to see if they had maternity undies- they don't.

I never bought bigger undies while pg with DD, I'm not sure why I didn't need to but I didn't.

I already need to buy some this pregnancy and yet it's kinda hard to send DH out for underwear and I'm on bedrest. I guess I'll guess at the size and he can go to Target or Walmart and pick up a size bigger then what I'm wearing now and hope that works. I can't even imagine what he might come home with though.

Maternity Underwear
Oh geez, I am kind of embarrassed to admit this but I got these from Old Navy:

http://www.oldnavy.com/Asset_Archive/ONWeb/Assets/Product/211/211582/main/on211582-00p01v01.jpg

They are the maternity briefs. They are large but they are soooooo comfortable, I really don’t care how Gma-ish they look! I got them for $9 for 3 pairs. I got 2 pairs of undies from JCPenney and they ran me $15. I haven’t worn those yet though so I don’t know how comfortable they are.

My friend who is around 24 weeks got these from Motherhood Maternity and she loves them:
http://www.motherhood.com/Images/Products/6414C.jpg
They are the seamless bikinis. You can get a 3 pack for $11.98.

I had my 16 week appointment this morning. Nothing major, I am happy to report. I saw a different midwife this time and decided to skip around to the different ones so I can see them all before we deliver.

Blood pressure good. Urine good.

I have gained 9 lbs which she said is right about where they like to see moms about halfway through. Note to self: chill on the potato chips already! I asked her how to keep the weight gain under control and her biggest piece of advice was to avoid white flour. Whaaaa! This means limiting my oh so beloved potato chips, baked potatoes, and pasta. Man. She explained why in that they instantly become sugar and get stored by your body as fat if not burned off. She said to try to lean on the protein side and make sure to get some protein with my breakfast in order to help balance my blood sugar levels. And of course, exercise which I have been totally slacking on. She said they no longer have a heart rate limitation for pg ladies so go for it on the treadmill. She said just watch my body cues -- I should still be able to talk and I shouldn't be exhausted when I am done. So that was very good information! I told her about my mom gaining 50 lbs with us and my sister gaining 60 lbs and she really warned against doing that if possible. She said a lot of women gain that much weight but when they do, they are automatically predisposing themselves to a hard labor because the baby is generally larger. As if I wasn't paranoid before! Seriously though, it gives me a kick in the butt to really watch what I am eating and to get back on the treadmill.

I got a brochure for the hospital and I need to pre-register by 20 weeks. This means I need to figure out who is going to be the baby's doctor because you have to put that on there (but I'm sure you could change it if you wanted). I think this warrants some questioning of my friends with babies because I don't think our family doctor focuses on kids. Another dr. in his practice does but he's not on Kaiser's list. I'll have to see who my friends use and what they think of their ped.

I asked her how bad lying on my back was at this point and she said that it’s not a big deal really until you get to 20 weeks, but then at that point, it will probably be painful or make you sick to your stomach to lie flat on your back. She said you can lie on your back with a pillow under your hips if you want and that would be fine. The goal is to not cut off the circulation of the vena cava and aorta. She showed me where the top of my uterus is right now. It’s just below my belly button and she said by 20 weeks it will have moved above my belly button. I have a short body though!

She instantly found the baby's heartbeat and we listened to it for a while. She said the baby was moving around a lot but we could still hear the heartbeat. You could also hear a lot of swooshing from his/her movement which was cool. She said full term the heartbeats range from 120-160 but the smaller they are, the faster the heart rate. And she said since the baby was moving, that would also increase the heart rate.

My next appointment is September 29.

Anyone know why my hand would be hurting after a quick blood draw?? I guess she could have hit a nerve? It's like I smacked my funny bone really hard and it's radiating up mostly into thumb and forefinger and the space between. Should I be concerned?

I'm behind again! I was out of town at my parents house for LD weekend and didn't have time to check CC, just quick glances at LJ.

I'm sure you're not reading this, but Astro, my heart is breaking for you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had my OB appt. this morning. In and out of the office in 10 minutes - nice! H/B was great - I didn't ask what it was. I've gained 2.5 lbs, but I'm still under pre-pregnancy weight. My doctor didn't have a problem with that and said I was doing great. He wants me to keep my weight down since I'm fat to begin with (my words, not his).

He didn't tell me to schedule an u/s, so that's weird. I wonder if he missed how far along I am? Honestly, I can't remember right now either! I know I'll be over 20 weeks at my next appointment. Oh well, I could have asked about it but I didn't. Probably better since DH and I are having disagreements about finding out the sex. I really want to, he doesn't.

Aaron's being a fussbucket now, so I'll be going now. Hope everyone is doing ok! I'll read more to catch up later.

Next appointment is October 7

Well just when I thought I was safe- the M/S came back! It took me completely by surprised- but then I was able to easily get back into position over the sink. :o I switched pre-natal vitamins because the ones that I was taking made me sick everynight just from the smell and my new ones are much easier to take, but now I"m wondering if they are making me sick. Granted- I took that one at night and then got sick in the morning - but who knows with this crazyness.

lynnh strange that your doctor wouldn't have scheduled your ultrasound. My doctor seemed to want it between 17-18 weeks but then I've heard other people want it after 20. I also didn't have to schedule mine far in advance at all.

Mindy3094 O.k. did you EVER think you'd be posting underwear on a chatboard? Thanks for the photos! Glad everything went well with your appointment. Thanks for the on the back information.

Kellymb75 I hope by now your thumb is feeling better - if it isn't than definitely call the doctor.

Astro - I know you are probably avoiding these threads right now. I am so sorry for your losses. We are thinking of you and sending you and your DH our thoughts and prayers.

Hi everyone! Catching up here is always a task when you have been away for a couple of days! We just got back from vacation, and had a fabulous time! I can't believe that I have not had any vacation for over 13 months- wow. Now everything is going to be saved up for when the baby comes. The cruise was awesome, and we saw so many pregnant bellies and babies on the cruise. It looks like cruising is a good way to go for vacation with a little one.

The baby's activity has really picked up. I can't believe that I am able to feel as many little kicks as I have been. DH first felt some kicks last Wed at 17 weeks! Let's see, I've also had somersaults, and a boxing match down there. The feeling is incredible! What scares me is that the baby is this strong this early. I am really going to be gettting socked in the last trimester!

I think I am going to tell my boss soon. My belly is popping out a bit now, although I just look like I have gained some weight. I have no idea what I am going to tell him- it's so weird to have to tell someone who is not family/friend. I guess I am a pretty private person, and I don’t like to draw attention to myself, esp. at work. I will probably re-work several scenarios out in my head over the next couple of days. DH thinks I am nuts to worry about this!

My OB appointment for tomorrow got postponed until the 16th of this month (Sept 16th).

Meatpie - We are actually up in San Francisco, so we drove down to San Pedro for the cruise. I wish we got to go down to LA more often, but we have to content ourselves with little trips up here. I'll let you know if we are in the area soon!

Ausbride- Yeah, we have cruises, but you have AUSTRALIA! Ahh. What I wouldn't give to visit down there soon!

Edsbabyrhi - Have to make you laugh- I am not sure my stomach will EVER outpace my bb's! These babies have been super sized since day one  and have been growing by leaps and bounds since I got pregnant. I sure am jealous of you who have normal sized ones out there!

Carisa - Happy Birthday!

Have a great Monday everyone! :)

I felt the baby move FINALLY!!! It was pretty incredible. It wasn't a flutter, or anything like that - the kid gave me a swift kick/punch/elbow and that was it. But i knew immediately that I felt the baby for the first time.

The hus' reaction "Maybe it was just gas." Niiiiiiccceee

Lynn - I'd call too and make sure you get the u/s at 20 weeks. Although it does differ from doctor to doctor. My gf just had a baby this weekend and she had 8 or 9 u/s total. I should have three in all. (7 weeks, 20 weeks and then the final trimester.)

LooLoo - I can't believe the m/s has returned. Hopefulyl it's the prenatals and this will go away for you!

Undies - I bought a size larger in 100% cotton for now, but regular undies. It's working for me!

Congrats on the baby movement. That is so exciting.

I am having such a crappy day today. FIrst my sinuses have been bothering and causing a headache. Then, I started to hotflash and feel nausious. i have been lucky (knock on wood)- I have not had any m/s. I have never realyl thrown up (except as a baby)- so i don't know what i would do. BUt now, I feel so icky.

Happy Birthday, Carisa!

QOTD - we started our registry already - but just basic stuff. We'll add the bigger things later as we finish researching it. We already have aunts wanting to buy stuff for the baby (yay!) so we thought it needed to get started soon!

Meatpie - congrats on movement! I felt the baby from outside yesterday, but maybe because I knew there was movement? DH wouldn't be able to tell, I'm sure. It took him a long time with Aaron!

On the u/s... i'm tempted to call. But, I wont' be able to find out the sex, so I'm thinking it's ok for now. I had a ton of u/s near the end of my pregnancy w/ Aaron due to preclempsia (I never heard the words "you have...", but my mom went to my last doctors appointment and said the doctor did say that to her). I'm hoping I won't have it again, but I'm sure there will be some u/s in the near future. It doesn't take long to schedule them. So, if I go at 24 weeks I can probably get it done that week or the next. If I did want to ask them about it, I can't get through to their phone. I need to reschedule my next appointment to an early morning appt. and I keep getting the answering service. I think their computers are down or something. They were on Friday, so they must be having some problems!

I WANT TO REGISTER AGAIN! :p

We did our registry at bru 2 weeks ago. It was mostly to have a place to keep track of stuff than to get stuff this soon.

No movement here yet, at 18 weeks. Starting to get nervous but the next appointment is Sept 15 (thurs) so trying not to freak out too much.

Totally unrelated story...found out we had a lice outbreak in my school today. And I am one of the few teachers (the only one in the elementary building) who had the healthcare screening class. So I had to check all kids. fun fun.

Hi ladies, hope everyone is doing well.

No baby registry here, or baby showers to plan. They're just not done here in Australia (I've never been to one or even heard of one being held). And I think I'm glad, I didn't really enjoy doing my wedding registry.

No real baby movement downunder ;) , but I think I felt something on a couple of occasions. Although the books say for 1st baby, it can be anywhere up to 22 weeks before you feel movement. I'm also quite tall, so that means I've got more internal room for bub to float around in before he/she starts being squished and coming into contact with all my insides.

meatpie Congrats on baby movement, it must feel so weird. Although I think it must be weirder in the 3rd tri when it looks like an alien is about to come out of your stomach!

edsbabyrhi I'm with you, I've now decided my latest worry is that because I haven't felt bub moving, something bad has happened. But I'm still nauseous most evenings (at 17w3d  ) so that's a good sign I guess.

Yeah, we have cruises, but you have AUSTRALIA! What I wouldn't give to visit down there soon

I don't think any of us will be doing major travelling in the near future. The amount of "stuff" you need to travel with a baby is incredible, I think it's easier to stay home

roe6373 I hope the sinuses and headaches have gone away and you're feeling better.

LooLoo That's just so unfair that your m/s came back. I still have mine and am trying not to jinx myself by saying that it has eased off a little the last couple of nights. I hope yours goes away soon.

Happy Birthday to The Future for this week :D

Kellymb Hope you got good results from your doc's appt re the chicken pox. I'm sorry to hear about your DH's car, there's always expenses like that when you need them the least.

Swollen boobs. And they don't move much Oh I'm hearing you. I find also if I sleep on my stomach, I wake up and my boobs are hard, especially around the nipple area. Very odd but I guess it's just one of those delightful side effects

angelgirl
i am insanely jealous that your boobs have grown. why is that the only symptoms i'm not having I know this was meant for meatpie, but I'd be happy to send some of my insane boobage your way. Be glad you don't have them yet, I'm beginning to feel like a cow with giant udders :D By the time I'm finished breastfeeding (assuming I can), I'll have to tie them in a knot around my neck to stop them from dragging on the ground behind me

I'm having quite a lot of the round ligament pain, most often when I'm in bed. If I turn over from lying on my one side to my other side in one movement, it's quite painful, but if I sort of turn to the middle, pause, and then turn to the other side (i.e. make 2 separate movements instead of one) it seems to be ok. But coughing and sneezing I now find I need to hold my lower abdomen and I don't get the pain. Imagine what I'm going to be like at 38 weeks, I'll need painkillers to move

And now I think that's more than enough chat from me. Hope everyone is doing well, and those bellies are starting to grow.

Ann- I totally get the same thing with the round ligament pain whenever i turn over in bed. I also do a little break in between rolling over. I think it's bc i so miss lying on my back- that i pause on my back for a moment just for a little comfort. I also have the same thing with sneezing/caughing. I feel as if i have to brace myself.

baby movement - I too was worried that i was not feeling much baby movement- then i went tot he dr. last week adn heard the heartbeat and felt much better. I told the dr. I was worried and i guess it's preety common feeling. MYphilisophy is- if you don't feel any excruciating pain down there- everythign is fine. that is until the baby actually arrives :D

19 weeks today!!!

Okay, I am way behind and I will try to catch up soon. I hope everyone is doing well, and all the headaches are getting better. I was having a lot the past few weeks, but knock on wood, haven't had any in a couple of days.

Well had the big u/s yesterday.....it is a BOY!!!!! The family is very excited and since we already have a ds and dd it would have been exciting either way. My DD was a little disappointed she wanted a sister but I just told her she would always be our little princess!!!

Have a great day!!!

Hello Ladies,

Jenryan It's a boy! Congratulations!!!!!!! Great answer to your DD. Do you have any boy's names picked out yet?

edsbabyrhi ewww- I guess that's a good practice for motherhood eh? did you find any little critters?

AusMarchBride Thanks for the morning sickness well wishes- I think it's back for a little while. Hopefully it won't be as bad as when I had the first time.... I hear you on the boobs. Oh my!

meatpie I'm so excited you felt the baby move! That is SO cool.

I haven't had any movement yet- but I still feel like it's too early - and I'm not really worried about it. For some reason I have it in my mind around 21/22 weeks I'll start feeling it. No reason- just what I think. I haven't registered yet- but probably will in early October. My shower is going to be in mid November- so I'll want to have it done before then.

We have been waiting on the u/s to register. I know that we are going to register at bru.

When is everyone planning on having their showers? The holiday's make it hard for us.

jenryan- Congrats on your baby boy!! Thats so exciting! I can't wait to find out....Josh and I will go for our big u/s a week from today!

To reply to the registry question....we started our registry a while ago (kinda jumped the gun) but as many people already said it was a good way for us to keep track of what we wanted....when we find out the sex we will add a few sex specific things to it as well...

meatpie- Congrats on feeling the baby move. I think I felt the little one yesterday but not 100% sure...I can't wait till I get one of those little kicks!

On the subject of round ligament pain...I'm right there with you girls! I also seem to be getting it while rolling over in bed, coughing sneezing or reaching for something....what fun

jenryan Congrats on the Baby Boy!!

Registry Question We'll probably register this weekend or next weekend since our Big u/s is tomorrow.

Shower Question I know I'll be having a shower in Florida the first weekend in November. It's early, but with the holiday and me being able to fly semi-comfortably it worked. I'm not sure when/if I'm having a shower in Connecticut. I'm sure my MIL will plan something, but probably not till after the holidays.

Baby showers: We're probably going to have 2-3 showers - one at work (who knows when), one for jay's huge family (january), one for my friends (december).

Jenryan, congrats on your boy!

We have our u/s in 6 days now... I can hardly wait!

No movement, yet, but I'm hoping it'll happen any day now. I get round ligament pain all.the.time. Definitely when I'm turning over in bed, etc. And I do brace my belly when I sneeze, so I won't get the pain.

My hair is growing like a weed. I need to make an appt for a haircut, pronto. Nails are fast-growing now, too.

Curiously, my kitty, Peaches, seems "in tune" with what's going on. She's extremely affectionate with me, and practically demands to be next to me now. She's such a sweetie - wonder how she'll get along with bebe? :)

ETA: Showers - I'll definitely have two - one at work and one with family/friends. I have a huge extended family, so it'll be interesting to see how they work that. Scheduling will be a b!tch - I can already see that. It'll be too early in November, smack-dab during the holidays in December, and cutting it close in January. Ah well.

Jenryan - Congrats on a baby boy!

Anyone else losing thier center of gravity? In the last two days I've fell down the stairs twice. What a klutz! Baby's fine, but my body aches. Today my feet just slipped from under me and I slipped at least 5 stairs. Doh! I'm sure it's the center thing because my I've just now noticed my body changing a bit. All of a sudden my pants don't fit anymore. And, of course, I hate my old maternity clothes. I think I'll hit the outlet mall this week. ;)

I'm so thankful we have a ranch rather then a two-story home becuase I'm sure I would have fallen down the stairs multiple times already. My sense of balance has been off for a while but now I'm noticing it even more. I think some of my lack of balance has to do with being on bedrest though. I don't move around a lot during the day (or I try not to) so when I do get up I think I also get "head rushes". Be careful, take your time and hold on to rails!

jennapeach
09-13-2005, 09:26 AM
lynnh, I have definitely noticed the change in my center of gravity! I'v ehad a couple of close-calls where I thought I'd lose my balance and fall. I'm very careful - especially getting in and out of the shower/tub! I'm asking our condo assn to trim away the hedges that butt up against our outside stair handrails, cause they make it tough to grip the rails.

My pre-preggo pants don't fit at all anymore. I have found stretchy pants from Old Navy that I LOVE. They're soft, stretchy and yoga-style. Nice enough that I can wear them to my (casual) office. I'm going to buy a few more pairs.

I wore a maternity shirt last week and people could really tell! I didn't quite feel comfortable in it, cause people who didn't know already were definitely staring at my belly. For the most part, I'm still wearing all my pre-PG tees to get by.

Jenryan- Congrats on the baby boy! :)

Meatpie- Yeah on feeling baby movement!

Edsbabyrhi- I wouldn't worry about not feeling the baby yet. I didn't expect to feel anything until 20 weeks either. My sister was 19 weeks before she felt anything. I am sure you will feel better when you hear the heartbeat though!

Lynnh, Kelly, Jenna- I think losing my sense of balance was one of the first things that happened to me. I think it was my version of some twisted morning sickness. Compound that with the fact that I tend to be naturally clumsy and I am a walking disaster. I know I am going to have to be super careful when I am carrying more weight down there. Be careful ladies!

Jenna- You lucky girl on having a casual office! I am having clothes trouble in a major way. I grabbed a shirt to wear this morning and when I tried to button it the gap that was left at the bb area was really bad. All my shirts are too small- but only in the bb area. I must have looked absurd, DH almost couldn't control himself because he was laughing so hard at me fighting with my shirt. I don't want to attract attention by wearing maternity shirts so early- I am highly uncomfortable with people staring at my mid-section. Between the shirt drama and a little bit of ligament pain, I made us both late for work. Sigh. I have dreams of a casual work environment- I don't even get Fridays casual. :(

I am so jealous of all of you who have "the big" U/S scheduled. I guess I have to live vicariously through your gender announcements until I can get my ultrasound scheduled! Very exciting! :D

We have not registered yet, but we will probably do so the first of October. I am sure that the Mom's will want to go to Babies R Us with us as they had such a good time last time. We will probably also place an order for the crib as we'll be 20 weeks.

I have no idea when we will have showers. I know that the holidays are super busy for people- hopefully that means that I will have a small shower with my favorite family and friends, and probably a work shower.

Hello everyone!

I think my belly has definitely bulged out the past couple of days. Hubby agrees and both my boss and his wife made comments today. Plus I have been having more round ligament pain lately and that area just feels like it’s stretching, kwim? So I think I will take a 17 week pic tomorrow to compare to last week’s. I am really curious!

Registry
We are not going to register until after our u/s on October 10, so hopefully sometime in the middle of October we can get it done.

Shower
My sister is planning my shower for January 8. She has contacted my ILs to ask if they want to be involved or have something of their own. My SIL emailed her and said that she didn’t know what she wanted to do because she didn’t know where she would be (never mind she planned a bridal shower for BIL’s wife by herself from 4 hours away) but that she would talk to her mom (MIL) and see what she said. That was at least a month ago and my sister has heard nothing from them. That is a little frustrating for me, but oh well. My sister did her part so what more can she do? We’ll also have a shower for our Sunday school class and I’m guessing that will be sometime in late November/early December since there are 3 of us expecting and the first one is due in December.

Round Ligament Pain
Oh my, if I roll over wrong at night, OUCH! It hurts like a bugger but only lasts 30 seconds maybe then goes away. It’s right along the bikini line on my right side mostly which is where the munchkin has been settled for a while.

jenryan
Congratulations on your little boy!

Holy behind I am!!!

Thanks all for the congrats. It was funny because I was driving to buy new bras  (already out of new bras) and I thought to myself -- "Self, when am I gonna feel this kid?" I'm only 5-2 and pretty petite and it just does not seem like the kid has enough room in there for being the size of a "yam" (according to Babycenter.com). And then THE KICK!!! It was incredible!

Jenryan Congrats on the boy!! how exciting!!! I have to live through everyone else here because we will not find out the sex.

Anyone else not finding out the sex?

Showers - I'm not sure how it will work. A gf wanted to throw me one in LA where we live but I don't know a ton of people here. My family is throwing me one in my hometown on Nov. 12, but then there are the in-laws, whoa re Jewish. Perhaps we'll plan one in MN, perhaps not? I dunno have to talk to MIL on that one.

Register - We haven't even started to look yet. I just keep compiling Consumer Report lists on the best buys, etc. I'm sure in October we will.

Jordan - good luck tomorrow with the big u/s!!!

jenna We live in Brentwood, work in Hancock Park. We should see if there are other LA gals. Pretty sure there are. You ever need a maternity shopping partner - let me know. I tried to go alone and it was unbearable!!!

Also, on bras. I asked the sales lady at some store and she suggested I go with a bra that stretches - and they are much more comfortable. I am currently in a Bali bra which is really comfortable. I also bought a size larger (band width) so I can grow into it if need be. That helped the comfort situation.

Thanks ladies, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hasn't felt the baby move, makes me feel much better :D

I'm also not finding out the sex. DH is adamant he doesn't want to know, I did want to so I could do the nursery, but I've agreed to let it be a surprise.

Bras - I normally wear an underwire bra (I'm a D-cup pre pregnancy), and I had to buy new bras recently. I bought one that has no underwire, not attractive at all but OMG it is soooo comfortable. It'll be hard to go back to underwires after I've finished breastfeeding (assuming all goes well).

meatpie We are not finding out the sex in advance. Although my ultrasound is tomorrow- so hopefully I won't just get too excited and make them tell me. :) I so wish that I could go shopping with you and JennaPeach- I hate maternity shopping I decided. I had a rough time of it on my own. I'm planning on going again this weekend.

Jordan I'm thinking of you today and can't wait to check out your journal.

Mindy yay for popping. I think I've started to pop myself but I can only tell when I am without clothes. Dressed - I look the same (well, with bigger boobs.)

Sense of balance I have been working with personal trainer and we do squats and lunges and lots of core strengthing stuff (I had been working out before hand so all of this is o.k.) anyway she said this should help with my sense of balance- we'll see though....

jordan - good luck today! :)

..... I popped (IMO) last week or the week before. I started really wearing maternity clothes this week and everyone is noticing now! It's fun :)

I haven't lost my sense of balance yet - I hope not to. I've always had good balance so I hope it stays with me. I wore heels to a bridal shower that my MIL was hosting on Sunday and she practically flipped out on me. I guess she fell when she was pg with DH and assumes that any pg lady who wears anything but flats will fall too. The kicker is that they only had about 1" heels and I took them off when I ran up and down the stairs (didn't want to scare her that bad!). She even mentioned that she was worried to Jay. Ack. Of course, he laughed....

My parents sent us a check yesterday... how sweet... for maternity clothes! Apparently, my mom wants to make sure I dress well since she never could - mumus and drawstring pants still haunt her I guess ;)

Did you know that in the US Sunday was Grandparents Day? I sort of remembered - it's on my calendar at my desk... Anyway, my dad's staff bought him presents for the day!!! Isn't that sweet?! :) They bought him an "I love my granda" photo album and bought something for the baby too - I don't know what. He & my mom were both tickled over this.

That is so sweet of your dad's staff to buy him presents! They all must be very excited for him! Is this a first grandchild on that side?

I need one of those checks too! :D

LooLoo
Well, I'm sure no one is complaining about the bigger boobs. LOL Can I borrow your trainer for a while? Maybe he/she can give me a kick in the pants to get my butt in gear!

Ann
Ah, no underwire? That sounds heavenly! The boob fairy is still yet to visit me, so I havent' had to buy any new bras yet (which is kind of nice but makes me wonder if they are going to viciously expand soon giving me stretch marks) No fetal movement here yet either.

I been having movement since week 15, is that early or what? But now baby has slowed down.

Nights are getting uncomfortable for me. I toss and turn and no position feels right. I thought about getting one of those snuggle pillows, but then DH, might be hitting the floor and I don't want that! This week I bought a little pillow and stick it under my stomach and it feels much better. I find myself holding my stomach to sneeze or even laugh hard.

Add me to the SURPRISE list. I hope we can contain ourselves when we have an ultrasound in October. We really want to be surprised though.

Congrats to everyone that found out the sex, can you believe we are almost half way done??

I envy all you LA girls that might go shopping together! I am from CA (most recently lived in Fullerton) but in late 2002 we made the big move to Northern Indiana! Talk about major change, but I had to follow my Indiana Boy! ;) My parents and I visit eachother often though!

I also found some comfortable-no underwire bra's at Walmart (out of all places!) But then again I am plus size (just my size brand bra's) They are very comfortable!

I haven't registered yet. We might do Target instead of BRU. We are undecided. We also can't decide what bedroom to have the nursery, which by the way, we don't think we want a theme or anything, so who knows what we will do. Anyone in the same boat as us??

angelgirl8

how do i continuously get so behind?! oh, yeah, it might have something to do with the computer being about 5 feet away from where i am. 5 feet being way too far to move these days!

i read everything i missed, but just can't catch up on replies!

i'll catch up on the qotd, though.

balance...i'm not having any balance issues, yet. we live in an apartment building with an elevator, so no stairs to contend with! i'm very careful going up and down the subway stairs, though!

round ligament....argh!! these are killing me, these days. i don't know if it's the extra space the twins are taking up or what, but every time i shift i get these pains. sounds normal, though!

registry/shower...we definitely won't be having a shower. we're jewish and there's a superstition about having baby stuff before the baby is born. we are on the fence about registering at all. i know there's stuff we'll need, but we'll get it and keep it at my parent's house. most people we know won't buy stuff until after the babies are born, so maybe we'll create a registry but not put it up until after they're born?

finding out...yup, we're not finding out!

movement...i'm definitely starting to feel more movement in the last few days or so. i think with both in there, they're already fighting for space. and it seems like they're fighting with each other and my organs. and they're winning!

____

i started a prenatal yoga and prenatal water aerobics class. both were great, but i worry i overdid it because i was in a good deal of pain after the water class.

had my level II u/s yesterday and eveything looks great! the babies are amazing. the only problem is that one of baby B's kidney's has extra fluid in it. they'll watch that and hope it resolves. if not, they'll do an u/s on the baby at birth and figure out where to go from there. apparently, it's fairly common and the dr. said not to worry. honestly, i'm not worrying (that much).

everyone in the room knows the genders of the babies, so we were almost tempted to find out! but we held out.

nausea is finally fading!! replaced by sleeping issues and back pain, but i'll take that any day.

question...is anyone else having trouble sleeping because of positioning? i cannot figure out what to do! i've got a ton of pillows but i was thinking of sucking it up and getting the snoogle. thoughts?

quick new baby photos!

Angel- Look at those babies! Can you believe how different those sonograms are from only a month ago? It's amazing how they grow! I hope the extra kidney fluid resolves itself soon on the baby!

Ali- That is SO sweet of your Dad's co-workers! Your parents must be super excited for his co-workers to have remembered this day for him. AND how nice was it of your parents to send you money for maternity clothes! Ali will not be a frumpy mama! ;)

Looloo- Yeah, I am not loving the maternity clothes shopping either. I just can't find anything that fits me right, and I dress pretty conservatively most of the time so that creates another issue. I am going maternity clothes shopping with my mom and sister this weekend. So hopefully I can find something to wear for next week. The end of this week is going to be tough. I am running out of clothes fast!

Mindy- I am sure you will feel movement soon! I found that I feel movement most when I am relaxed, and it happens that we were on vacation last week, so I felt the babe a lot. I am sure it's there, you just haven't noticed it yet, or it hasn't kicked you in the bladder!

Meatpie- I would go maternity shopping with you ladies as well if I were in the area. Can you imagine what a group of hormonal ladies we would be? :p

Wow- you ladies have a lot of willpower in not finding out the sex! Since we are not sharing names with anyone until birth, we decided that we HAD to throw our family some piece of information. Plus, I will like being able to refer to it as "he" or ”she".

Question- I have not gone out looking yet, but does anyone know if maternity/nursing bras come in underwire? I can't imagine not using underwire, but if they do not exist I need to start shopping NOW! I hate to resort to any old bra at the last minute because I am desperate. Also, anyone have any reccomendations for bras? I am a D pre-preg, and am popping out of my current bra.

roe6373

Angel- love the u/s pics. I am getting so exciting for mine. It's just a week and half away. I told my dh that I would find otu the sex of the baby if we were having twins. Sicne it's jsut one, we are waiting. I give you so much credit for waiting. It will be so exciting.

sleeping - I hate it!!! :( I just cannot get comfie anymore. All i want to do is sleep on my back. If i am this miserable at 19 weeks, how am i gonna feel at 36 weeks? I am screwed.

Has anyone gone to tshirthell.com? There is a baby section which has the crudest t-shirts for babies. They made me laugh- but i don't think i would ever put my kid in one of them. For instance, one shirt says "all my dad wanted was a B--w J-b." I laughed at that, but thought it would be terrible for a baby to wear.

Aligirl - that was so thoughtful of your father's workers to get him something for grandparents' day. He must be so excited. it's so sweet of your parents to send a check for maternity clothes. I Am still haunted by visions of my mom cleaning house in her moo-moo.

On the topic of shopping for maternity clothes I feel you ladies! I have gone to motherhood maternity and mimi maternity and the clothes just do not fit me right. But I have had alot of luck with Old Navy and Gap. Both seem to fit nicely and they aren't over the top at all. They are cute and trendy while still being pretty conservative.

sleeping- I am having alot of trouble getting comfortable as well. I think I may have to check out those snoogles. Although, I am with LucyandRyan on the price. I think Josh would hit the floor also!

I have another question to throw out there to you ladies... as of now are any of you planning on taking a trip after the baby is born (provided he/she is healthy) My parents live in Romania right now (due to my dad's job) and I spent my high school years over there. I really miss it and they offered to pay for me to fly over there whenever I wanted to. I told them I would like to take them up on that offer when the baby is aprox. 6 to 8 weeks so they could spend a good amount of time with he/she. Provided I don't have a fussy baby it would be better than waiting till the baby was older I think. Just wondering if anyone else was thinking of taking a bigger trip and if you looked into baby travel advice.

LRL
09-14-2005, 10:33 AM
CGriffin- My sister traveled cross country a lot for work with my niece when she was an infant. She told me she felt it was definitely better to travel when she was smaller and less fussy (that she was sleeping most of the time definitely helped too). She says that you definitely want to breastfeed/bottle the babe during take-off and landing so that there is no ear pain.

She really had no problems until my niece started to get really ancy sitting still at about 14 months.

It will be fantastic to visit your parents with the baby! How nice of them to offer to fly you out whenever you want to. :)

Finding out the sex - another that is going to wait here. I would like to find out, but DH doesn't and I can't change his mind. Oh well, we'll find out eventually. ;)

Bras - How I hate bra shopping! I think this time around I'm going to go to someone who custom makes them. I think the LC I see at BF group (when I go) has a list of specialty shops and one that makes them. I'm rather large there, so if the boob fairy visits me any more I'm going to scream! LRL, you can find underwire nursing bras. But, they are sometimes not recommended because they can lead to plugged ducts or worse. I wore my regular underwire bras some during the early months and I didn't have a problem with it at all.

Sleeping - Has been hard. Especially now with my achy shoulder from the fall. I have a pillow similiar to this one that overstock sells once in a while: http://www.matsmatsmats.com/pillows/maternitypillow.html?SOURCE=froogle It's ok. I can't sleep with it all night though, but I find that I do need support on my back as well. I actually still find myself the most comfortable on my back, but it's changing quickly. I can't sleep on my left side again, so right it is!

Well, I got the results of my quad test today and I screened positive for down's. From what I understand this doesn't mean anything - but I have to go in for my already scheduled ultrasound tomorrow and then I have to go for an amnio on Friday -and then wait 2 weeks for the results. I'm 31- and I guess the numbers are 1 in 611 but of course I am freaking out. I also hear there are a lot of false positives with the quad test- but still. I can't calm down. I'm really really scared. Anyone out there with a similiar (or knows someone) that can offer some encouragement?

Thanks- Loo

Hi Loo-

I have heard of a lot of these tests being miscalculated. You might want to get them to run the numbers again and make sure that all of your personal information and EDD are accurate. I am told that this can change the test a lot- it also sounds like it is not terribly complicated to re-calculate. Maybe they can do this today? And then remember, it is just a risk factor, and probably is not anything to worry about.

Take a deep breath- you will find out more tomorrow with the level II ultrasound. I am thinking abut you and baby... hugs!

LooLoo02- My sister in law had the quad screen test done and they told her that she had a high probability for her child to have downs as well. I think she may have declined the amnio due to risk factors but I do know that it is now almost a year later and her son is as healthy as can be! The false positive rate is very high and the slightest mistake in calculations can trigger it.

Hi ladies - thank you all for the birthday wishes!!

GENDER - I really don't know. Don and I are split, I want to wait and he wants to find out. We have our ultrasound on Oct 4 and he mentioned that he plans on looking at the screen and if he sees something, he won't look away - haha!! I don't know what to do - I have always thought I would wait. I guess, you can put me down for SURPRISE and if that changes we will let you know!

SHOWERS - my mom said she is planning on having a shower for me. The one thing though, she lives in AZ and we are in San Diego. My dr said that she wants to me stop traveling around 32-34 weeks - and week 32 falls over Christmas/New Years. I think we are planning the shower for the first weekend in January - hopefully my dr. will let me drive over to AZ one final time before I need to stick around near home.

MOVEMENT - I don't think I have felt the baby move yet. I am having some wierd pressure on my sides and around my belly, but I am not sure if it's the baby. I am not having any flutter sensations, or "gas bubbles" - I am just over 16 weeks, so it might be to early for me.

Oh, I did rent a doppler from www.babybeat.com - it's great!! We get to listen to the heartbeat whenever we want. We have still to determine the beats per minute - that's tough. I will probably have the dr. help us out with that at our next appt. We listened to the heartbeat over the weekend and it sounded like there was 3 horses galloping away in there - it was going so fast!!

Hope everyone is having a good day!!

The boob fairy is still yet to visit me,

I think that's because she got stuck at my house

aligirl That's so sweet your Dad's staff bought him presents :)

Lucy and Ryan We're not having a theme either in the nursery, and I'm glad we don't do the registering thing here. I think it seems harder to register without having a definite theme.

angelgirl
i think with both in there, they're already fighting for space. and it seems like they're fighting with each other and my organs. and they're winning! I know I shouldn't laugh as it must be very uncomfortable, but :D Great u/s pics.

LRL
Question- I have not gone out looking yet, but does anyone know if maternity/nursing bras come in underwire? I can't imagine not using underwire, but if they do not exist I need to start shopping NOW! I hate to resort to any old bra at the last minute because I am desperate. Also, anyone have any reccomendations for bras? I am a D pre-preg, and am popping out of my current bra. I'm sure there are nursing bras in underwire, but from what I understand, these present a much greater risk of blocked milk ducts and mastitis. Can you go to a place that specifically sells bras and has an expert fitter, they should be able to help you out. I was advised a couple of weeks ago not to buy nursing bras yet as when the milk comes in the boobs will get even bigger (and that scares the heck out of me).

I too was a D pre preg and am now a double D. The letters G and H have been mentioned as possibilities once I start breastfeeding  I bought 2 non underwire bras a couple of weeks ago, they're not attractive but they are very very comfortable and I haven't had a non underwire bra since I was a teenager.

LooLoo I'm sorry about your test results, and I understand that you're worried. That's not a definite result, it's only a risk factor and as a couple of other posters have said, there are high rates of false positives, you need to get a definitive answer from your amnio.

All well here, still some nausea at night and no foetal movement yet. Big u/s next Wednesday so that will be fun.

Jordaon Congrats on the BOY!!

LooLoo My thoughts are with you, but I have heard many times from many people that false positives come out a lot on the quad test. Try not to worry too much, and the u/s should tell you a lot more.

LRL Bras....I have always worn a bra with an underwire. They do have nursing bras with them and I am already wearing them not b/c I just can't bring myself to buy new bras, and then have to by maternity bras after the baby is born. I wore them with my first two children and never had any problems with blocked ducts, so I would say if you want to wear them do.

Sleeping I have started having trouble sleeping....mostly b/c my back has starting killing me the past few days, and by the end of the day it is really awful...I need to start looking for some type of pillow to use for extra support at night.

LooLoo -so sorry to hear about the results. You mgiht be dick of hearing this- but please don't forget- the false positive is VERY common. I think the numbers all depend on age, weight, age of fetus, etc. So there is a large margin of error. My girlfriend had a positive test result. She went to the hospital for her level II u/s and everything was pefect. SHe now has a perfect 3 year old little girl. Her advice to me was to always keep in mind that the false positive is very common. Good luck at your u/s.

Jordan- congrats on the boy. I cannto believe it's 4 boys to 1 girl so far!!!

LRL - I found this place by me called a lactation resource center. They offer lots of classes but also have a little shop where they sell nursing bras. Maybe you can do a google search for a lactation center near you? My place has a website. I have not bee to it yet- so i don't know what info they have but check it out... www.everythingmom.com (http://)

Waxing -will anyone be getting waxed down under during the next few months? I had a comical time trying to shave yesterday. I want to go for the waxing, but I am scared it may hurt too much.

Lynnh, Ausmarchbride, Jenryan, Roe- Thanks for the responses! I'm happy to know that I am not alone! ;)

I guess I should see if there are some specialty bra shops or a lactation resource center around here (Roe- you are way ahead of the rest of us here! :p ). The possibility of having mastitis scares me- my sister had it while she was pregnant, and she said it wasn't pretty. The more problems I can avoid the better, right? Ausmarch- Bra sizes G and H? How terrifying! I keep thinking I can shove them into my existing bras and they will look the same.... until I look in the mirror. These things are popping out left and right!

Jordan- Congrats on the boy!

Carisa- I have been wanting to rent a doppler, but I really can't justify the expense to DH. We have been listening to the HB through a stethoscope, which you can't really hear yet, and only sometimes. Did you get one of the dopplers which you can record on?

Have a great Thursday ladies!

Hey Ladies!! Nothing new to report except I need help maternity shopping for work clothes. Anyone? Anyone? Been to Gap (stuff OK, love their sweaters), but I'm worried about pants and skirts for the fall. Also seen Old Navy and Babystyle. Any other recommendations for shops?

cgriffin - We'll be going to Maine when the kid is about 4 months for a week. I think we'll try to talk my parents and MIL into joining us so we can have some help. Both Benny and I are in a wedding in June. Certainly not Romania, but a long flight from LA. My sister said travel as much as possible the first 8-10 months - it's easiest.

lynn - Overstock for pillows. Good idea!

LooLoo - Hang in there. I really feel what you are going through. We are waiting for the results right now. I read in my booklet that only 5% of positives are actually positive for Down. Also, my good friend's brother and his wife had a 1 in 3 chance of having a baby with Down and she is healthy and beautiful and "perfect." Please do keep that in mind, although I know it's hard.

Jordan - Congrats!!!

Lucy - We are not doing a theme either. I'm not much a theme gal.

Roe - Lordie, no. I'm too shy and have never waxed that region. Took me years to finally wax just the legs.

Almost the weekend!!

LRL, anglegirl, meatpie, roe6373, jenryan, AusMarchBride Thank you so much for your words of support. I do know a lot of people get the false positive so that's something to hope for. I also had my ultrasound today and everything looked normal. The doctor said that reduced my chances to 50% of the small chance - so that's something to hold on to. We are going in for genetic counseling tomorrow and then if we decide, the amnio. And then the waiting.

Jordan Congrats on the BOY! Hurray!

Theme we are going with a hey diddle diddle theme for the room. I wanted to do children's literature but couldn't find a lot that wasn't Peter Rabbit or Pooh related so we went with the nursery rhyme thing.

looloo Glad your u/s went well. Good luck on whatver you decide about the amnio.

Theme - I would say we don't have a theme either- exept our furnitture was given to us and it's white with chareceters from Peter Rabbit painted on it. With that said, I am not going to do the peter rabbit bedding or border or anything. I really want to be very neutral.

Meatpie- Too funny! I noticed that you are calling your baby "the kid". That's what we call the baby to family. It just cracks my Mom up as she thinks we are really weird when we say that (I guess we are supposed to say "the baby"?). ;)

Loo- I was waiting for you to post. I am glad the baby measured well in the ultrasound! It sounds like the odds are in your favor. Please keep us posted and let us know how the genetic counseling goes.

Roe- Have you seen the Bunny (Cotton Tail) toile print on some of the Graco things? They have carseat, Pack N Play and highchair in this print! It is SO cute in person and pretty neutral. We actually have the set (minus stroller because I thought it was too heavy for me). I think it is the latest pattern too. Loo- on that note- have you seen some of the bedding made with "Nursery Rhyme Toile"? It is SO cute! I have seen some custom sets going on Ebay for about $370. We almost bought this, but DH refuses to let me buy more baby stuff until the shower. Oh well, I can always look, right?

LRL -
Yes - the one we rented is $28/month and we did a 3 mnth rental on it. It's pretty reasonable, plus it is a peace of mind tool. It does have a recorder on it, and with the rental we got a recorder that we keep. We also have the capabilities of uploading it to our computer and then emailing it out to family. I thought that was really neat!!

This is the one that we got:

Advanced Technology BabyBeat Doppler with Recorder
(Model BB150A)

By they time we have to return in December, when our 3 months is up, I will be able to feel the baby move. Who knows, I might want to keep for a while longer.

Jordan - Congratulations on a BOY!

Wow - we do have a lot of boys, huh? I'm really curious to see what the final count will be of each sex. When I was going to BF group with Aaron it was interesting with the ratios. When I started, there were almost all boys, then as Aaron got older it started to be more girls than boys with the new babies coming in. So, I wonder if the boys will out number the boys in the final count?

kelly - great belly shot! Thanks for sharing!

I had to use the rubber band trick for my last pair of fitting "regular" jeans today. :( Now I have to find some comfy maternity jeans since I don't want to wear my tan pants all the time.

Today Aaron saw a tiny baby in Target while we were checking out. He went nuts. He really loves babies and signs "baby" constantly when he sees them. I hope he's this happy about babies when there is a new one in his house! That kind of scares me. He does show signs of jealousy when I work in the church nursery and I hold a baby there, so it'll be interesting!

Lynn- uour post about your son showing signs of jeaoulousy made me think about my niece Marissa. When she was about 9 months old, her mother was holding another baby, and my niece got jealous and grunted at her. It was the funniest thing ever bc no one ever expected her to do that. Even though she could not talk- she made her point.

lynnh
09-16-2005, 06:11 AM
Yep, he makes his point as well. He loves this baby, as long as mommy is not holding it. :( I'm sure he'll adjust.

On a good note: Bruce (DH) felt the baby last night! This seems much earlier than my first pregnancy. He didn't believe me when I told him that I thought he would be able to feel it, so we sat there for 5 minutes waiting for the babe to kick. This one is a brat - kicks away when I'm not trying to feel the movement from the outside and then stops the second my hand goes on my belly!

lucyandryan I just recently moved to Michigan close to the state line, but previously I lived in Elkhart, and I still work in Elkhart. I noticed that you said you moved to N Indiana, that is a big change from CA. :)

I have my u/s today! We will find out, unless we don't have cooperation. :D

I have found that the clothes that I bought from motherhood have not been very good quality. The don't fit me right either. Recently I went on a shopping spree to gap.com/maternity and I love their clothes. They are so much more comfortable. I don't think that the prices are horrible considering most of the clothes I have bought I can wear after I have the baby.

Kelly, Angel- Such cute bellies!

Meatpie- Ummm, yeah, my DH would go for that. In fact, I think he is mentally chronicling their growth. I with you- I hate just feeling thick.

I have an OB appointment this afternoon. I need to ask the doctor about any reccomendations for lactation centers in the area, and about some weird breast activity I have been having lately. I have been having really cracked nipples, and a pain shooting through my breast with a little lump on one side. I normally have really fibrocystic breasts, but have never been able to feel the lumps as clearly as this one. Maybe I have a clogged duct? Having my bb's be so inflated and dense doesn't help either. I hope this doesn't signify the types of problems I would have breastfeeding- I really want to breastfeed, but if my nipples are this cracked already? OUCH!

Have a great weekend ladies!

Belly Shots- Love the belly shot. My belly has popped- but I still have a waist line (fat waist- but it's there) so my belly does not look like the symetrically perfect ball that you seem to have. It's so adorable.

LRL- I have had a cracked nipple issue also esp. in my left nipple. weird huh? I am also feeling pain in the boob. My co-worker said they are growing pains.

Cracked nipples Yikes, sounds hideous. That seems to be an unpleasant side effect I've missed out on so far. I think I'm going to take meatpie's advice and start lotioning up each morning. My skin is already quite dry (winter just finished here) and the last thing I want is cracked nipples to add to my pregnancy whinges.

Oh I'm laughing at this. I put on (by mistake) a pre-preg bra yesterday. It looked VILE. I had an extra pair of boobs overflowing the cups, not a good look :o Needless to say it got shoved to the back of the drawer quickly, and I think it'll be there for a while.

Waxing -will anyone be getting waxed down under during the next few months? I had a comical time trying to shave yesterday. I want to go for the waxing, but I am scared it may hurt too much

I get my legs waxed now, and it hurts much more during pregnancy than before (and it didn't tickle before). But as for waxing of the hoo-haa area, I don't think I'd try it for the 1st time in pregnancy. I figure there's going to be enough pain in labour, and even if it's a jungle down there, the kid'll find it's way out :D I'm not subjecting myself to extra pain from waxing now.

All well here, ultrasound in a couple of days, OB next Monday. Time is rolling on, I cannot believe we're almost halfway there

Michigan bride-we are pretty much neighbors! I am in Goshen! I hope you know the gender by now :D

Cracked nipples-Add me to that list. I talked to the doctor on Friday about that. He said that as long as they are not red not to worry about it, but if I see any discharge to call him asap. He said to keep them moisturize with regular lotion at all times.

waxing-No, Like AusMarchBride said, I don't care if it's a jungle! :D

I hope everyone had a good weekend. My husband decided it's time to decorate for Halloween! He was like a little kid in a candy store at Target. He can't wait until next year, when we have our baby around! He said, if you think this is crazy, just wait until X-mas. He is such a sweetie! :D

First things first...baby is good. The heart was beating about 163 bpm. We did not find out the sex, this child takes after its stubborn sister and the legs were tightly crossed. The perinatalogist could not get a good look at the heart either. The baby was on it's belly the entire time he did the scan. The baby rolled over to its side and 2 seconds later back to the belly it went. AHHH the joys of a stubborn child, taking after it's mommy already...poor poor Kurt.

More good news...I DO NOT have placenta previa! It has moved (if I ever truly had it) and that looks good too. I still have a blood clot, the baby has swallowed some blood, some blood has settled at the bottom of the sac (he said that if I hadn't had the bleeding issues it would be worrisome but it's not since they have a reason for it). I also have a small clot around the wall of my uterus, he said it looks old and if I do bleed it would be a few smallish clots or brown blood, again nothing to worry about. I have a fibroid on one side, which made looking at the heart even harder (he was going to do a vaginal ultrasound but the fibroid also would have gotten in the way with the way the baby was positioned).

I go back on October 14 for another ultrasound with him and we'll look for the sex again and get a good look at the heart (fingers crossed the child cooperates). I asked him what his opinion was about bed rest and he said that at this point he doesn't think bed rest is necessary. He said he would tell me no heavy lifting, no sex and to listen carefully to my body and to relax and rest when it told me to. He said that besides not getting a look at the heart everything looked great. Baby was weighing around 7oz and was measuring 17w1d which is perfect really.

I am sooo relieved. Not finding out the sex of this baby isn't even that disappointing. I was totally disappointed when it happened with Morgan but this child is healhty and that's really all that matters to me. I almost started crying when we left the appointment because I just felt this huge wave of relief and this huge worry lift off my shoulders.

ausibride - Thanks for the advice on the waxing. I think I will forgo it. One of my friends who gets waxed said she takes advil prior to going and it helps her. But we cannot take advil and Tylenol does not work for me as a pain reliever- so I will chicken out and not go for the waxing.

I think I am finally in that stage of the 2nd trimester when they say you want to take on things. I decided to spend 5 hours in my garden on saturday and totally overdid it. I think I got a mixture of heat exaustion and muscle strain. I literally couldnt walk for the rest of the night. I know being pregnant and all that probably wasn't a good idea but it didn't seem to dawn on me until the job was done!!

I gotta get back to work but I will post later!

Michiganbride - Congrats on the Boy!

The belly shots are great! I won't be posting any, because I too am "thick". DH says that I'm definately showing, but it's all above my belly button. Then there is a big dip where the button is and then I go out a little again. Looks kind of funny, really. I thought the bump above my button was there all along, but now it's further than my boobs, so I guess I am showing a bit.

I get an u/s from the Urologist today. I'm praying that they are nice and give me a peek at the baby. Sometimes I worry that I don't feel him/her moving enough. Aaron was so active all the time and this one isn't at all. If I do feel movements there is a ton of time between them.

Kelly - I'm glad your u/s went well! I bet the babe cooperates with you for your next u/s.

Michiganbride: Congrats on your boy!

Kellymb75: I'm so glad to hear that your baby is doing well and that you don't have placenta previa! I hope the baby cooperates for your next ultrasound.

I have my BIG ultrasound today at 3:00 cst. Yay :D Hopefully I'll be back on after that or tomorrow morning with an update!

Kelly Its good to hear that your ultrasound went good. I think that when you are a little further along your baby will cooperate better.

My friend and I are 6 weeks apart and want to have a baby shower together. We were thinking that we could label it like this:

Two Friends...
Two Baby Boys...
One Big Party!
The only thing is that we don't know how to address our non-mutual friends. We don't want someone not to come because they don't know both of us. Any suggestions?

kelly- so glad to hear that everhting looks ok.

cgriffen and Lynn enjoy your u/s!!!!

cgriffen - that is so funny that you spent so much time in the garden this weekend. I did also. It was insane. In addition to the garden, i made a list of things to do around the house- clean out bedrooms; put stuff i the attic; hang pictures, etc. DH thinks I am beginning to nest. I thought it was too soon.

michiginbride that verse you have for the baby shower is so cute. I don't have any ideas for you though. sorry. Let us know what you decide.

roe6373- I think something is going on because I am doing the same things. In addition to the garden I am also going through closets and trying to get everything situated...I am also aiming high trying to get big projects done..its crazy, stuff I could have cared less about before is now bugging the heck out of me!

Goodness - I'm out of the loop.

We're having a girl! Had out Level II this AM and everything looks perfect (thank goodness!) We saw the "three lines" and the perinatologist said that she's definitely a girl. This will be my hubby's third little girl, but he's totally happy. We're both happy that she's healthy. She's measuring a week behind what "my" dates are, but it's been that way since day 1, so either my dates are wrong or I o'd late. Anyhow, they were concerned until I told them that. I'm going back in one month just to confirm that she's still measuring the same, then my DD will officially be moved to Feb 22 or so.

The bebe was dancing - VERY active. Each time I've had a u/s, she's been really active, so something tells me I'm in for quite a bit of action when she comes.

Nips are SORE! They are always errr... moist, too. I've seen a little dried colostrum on them. No cracking, but I'm not looking foward to that when it eventually happens.

Am showing, but haven't taken any belly shots yet, though. I need to get on that.

Roe, Meatpie, Ausmarchbride- The nurse practicioner told me to use Lansinoh Lanoline on my nipps for the cracking. I guess this is what they recommend for the breastfeeding mothers. It seems to help, although a tiny tube is close to $10! That is pricey! I might see how Mustela works for me- at least until baby gets here. She said that the little bump is probably the beginnings of a clogged duct and to massage it and hot compress it and it will go away.

Ausmarchbride- When I went for my appointment on Fri, I asked the NP about bras, since I know she has recently had a baby. She told me that there is a woman locally who is a genius at fitting bras on pregnant women and nursing mothers. Maybe you can find a good reccomendation from your doctor for your next bra too? (Who would have thought to ask the Dr's office about bras?)

Lucy- OH! Halloween decorating! I am normally not a Halloween person, but I am becoming increasingly excited as I realize that next year we will have a little one to dress up. I don't like to dress up, but having a cute little doll to dress in frills and shiny materials should be cutely sickening. LOL. I find that I am also finding that for some reason, the holidays can't come fast enough for me this year. I started some pumpkin baking last week, and the smell was incredible. Oh, what plans I have! :D

Michiganbride- Congrats on the baby BOY!

Kelly- I am really glad that everything looks so well with the baby! I hope the baby will cooperate for you next month- the 14th doesn't seem too long from now.

Cgriffin- GOOD LUCK tomorrow! I have heard that to try drinking a couple of glasses of orange juice before the ultrasound to get their little legs moving. I think I might try this at my U/S. Try not to overdo yourself when you feel energetic! I tend to do the same thing and then annoy DH with my ploys for sympathy later. ;)

I too am wondering where all the little girls are! I remember that Jan mommies also had a ton of boys at first. Hmmm, I guess that makes sense though, as the little boys are easier to spot!

Lynnh- I hope the urologist can give you a teeny peek today!

Ali- YEAH! It's baby sex time for you! Good luck!

We went this weekend to start a registry. It was packed at Babie's R Us! We are only planning on having a small registry, and I think we completed all the stuff we wanted to put on it for the most part. I am realizing that I need to do some more mattress research though. Those suckers are expensive, and I can’t decide if I should order a foam mattress or register for a spring mattress. Such decisions we have to make! Is anyone else looking at mattresses yet?

My next appointment is Oct 14th, and the big U/S is scheduled for Sept 27th. I can't wait! :D

michiganbride--Congrats on your little boy! We've all been saying that a lot lately, huh?

roe and cgriffin
I have my list of things to do as well! My one big one is to finally get our skylights replaced (they are leaking). I swear if that doesn't get done before the winter, I will blow a gasket when before I would just be annoyed and say, Ah, we'll do it in the spring. Can you imagine what we are going to be like when we are at the end and seriously nesting?!? Poor hubby!

aligirl
Good luck today!

kelly
That is such great news that you don't have placenta previa! And woohoo for getting off of bedrest. Such great news! I bet you are thrilled.

I have a QOTD if no one minds -- How far along are you and how much weight have you gained? I am wondering. If you think it's too personal, feel free to tell me to shove it. ;) At my last appointment at 16w, I had gained about 9 lbs which she said is where they like to see moms about halfway through, so I am average to a little high in that regard. And I'm still paranoid about gaining 50+ lbs!

I am going to stick with Baby Bargains recommendation for mattresses since I have no clue otherwise. They are:

Sealy Ultra Soft 150 coil @ $69.99

OR

Simmons Baby Beauty 104 coil @ $69.99

OR

Simmons Super Maxipedic 160 coil @ $99.99

We haven't registered yet so we haven't checked them out in store yet.

QOTD: I'm 17w2d and I haven't gained anything. I go back and forth with being down 4 or less pounds to back to where I started at. Nothing has been said to me yet but I also haven't brought it up. I did not gain a lot with DD either, I think in the end after losing and gaining I gained a total of 15lbs and I shed that in less then 3 weeks, probably faster. Let's just not talk about how much I gained AFTER I stopped BFing. ;)

Congratulations to everyone that's found out the gender! I'd be so jealous if we hadn't just received amazingly good news today at our u/s. Plus we get a bonus one in less then a month so I have that to look forward to.

Mindy3094- In response to your question. I am 20 weeks now and at my last checkup which was about 3 or 4 weeks ago I was up 8 lbs I think. They told me that is fine so I guess since I've never done this before I'll trust them!

Kelly So glad to hear the appointment went well.

Jenna - Yeah for the girl!!! Congrats! Post those belly shots!

Lucy- How cute with your husband. I just found out the staff (I work at a school) usually dresses up on halloween with the Head of School the leader. One idea is the Pied Piper. Can you imagine me a pregnant rat for Halloween?!? I think I might die...

Michiganbride- Congrats on the baby boy! So many boys! I can't believe it!! I have no advice on that, but that is hard because you would not want to come to a shower and NOT bring gifts for the both of you. I think it would be a bit awkward for some guests, but I dunno!!!

Cgriffin- GOOD LUCK on the big appointment! I can;t wait to go back to see the doc. First time i my life I enjoy going to see a doctor!!!

Lynnh and Ali- Good luck to you both!!

I think I got everybody. Sorry if I missed anyone.

Update on me - Stil waiting on the results of the triple quad tester or whatever they call it. Also, I think my boobs have stopped growing for now. Seriously, I think I woke up everyday looking at them and thinking - they are BIGGER! Then I got worried they were shrinking, which I read is a bad sign, but I think they just stopped doubling in size every other day.

QOTD - I think I gained about 6-7 pounds the last time I was in which was at 17 weeks. I think 2-3 of those pounds are in the boobs, though.

Hello ladies,

Thank you all for your support over the past few days. As you can imagine it has been very hard. I think I got a taste of what it is like to be a parent. I went in for my amnio in Friday and everything seemed to be fine. Saw the baby again and he/she looked FABULOUS. The amnio was o.k. It hurt like you would expect with a 4 inch needle in your belly - but the baby behaved and didn't move and I had no complications after. We opted for the "fish" test which gives you 90% accurate results within three days AND - I heard back today and there were 2 lovely cromosones- so it looks like things are fine. Of course they stressed that it was only 90% accurate and the one thing that concerned me was that there was a small trace of blood in the fluid- which could be a sign of something. (but she said it was faint..) I won't know for sure until 10-14 days- but this was very good news for us.

Congratulations to all the new boys and girl! I hope that none of you have to go through what I've been through the past couple of days, but please if you do feel free to PM me and we can talk.

Ali - Congrats on a boy!

Oh, I so want to find out!!!

As for my "u/s".... no peek. They didn't have a "real" u/s machine, just a bladder scan thingy. bummer. The baby did make an appearance though and messed up her first read. I had just gone to the bathroom 5 minutes before (I told her a half hour - I lied), but she said to try because the scan showed my bladder was FULL. I peed about a shot glass worth. When the nurse came back I said, "That's not good, huh?" And she shook her head. I commented on how this better be a girl, causing me so many problems, and she said "that's a safe bet!" ;) Well, she did the scan again and I passed! Then a light bulb went off and she figured the first scan results was probably the baby getting in there!

OMG- so much has gone on over night, I am not sure i can remember who to give s/o. I am sorry if i missed anyone.....

Jenna- -congrats on the boy

Aligirl- congrats on the boy

looloo- so glad to hear your initial tests went well.

crib mattress- ditto on the baby bargains. I read the section on mattresses and took some notes- which are at home. I cannot recall which they recommended-Mindy highlited the good ones. I think they recommend a few mattresses that are between $60 and $90.

registering - I think i am going to take a day off of work in October to register. I woule prefer going on a regular weekday when the store is less crowded than a saturday/sunday when everyone is shopping. I get too flustered.

weight gain - I weighed myself today. I am a tank. That's all i can say. I have realized though that in the beginning i ate like a BFA (big fat a$$) and now, i get full very quickly. Hopefully my gain will level off and i won't go over the 40 lb mark. Everything i read says 40 lbs is a lot. But all my friends who have had kids all gained around 40-45 lbs. That is where i go my # from.

cgriffen- I also cleaned my closets this weekend. :D

We had a contractor come over last night to give us an estimate on remodeling our bathroom. We definetly need a new shower bc ours is leaking. We stopped using the shower in the master bedroom adn started using the spare bathroom. Anyway- we are now debating what to do. The entire bathroom is about 20 years old. The shower is bad. The toilet and sink anre ok- but outdated adn the tiles on the floor are ok (there are two cracked tiles). We can do the whole thing for about $12,000. It kills me to spend that sort of money. On the other hand- we can do it now or never do it (once the babe comes i probably will not want to spend a penny on anything) My agita is flaring!!!! Any words of wisdom?

I am now officially OFF BEDREST!!!!!!! :D

I had my OB appointment today and for the first time it was a normal OB appointment. They just listened to the heartbeat, had me pee in a cup and checked my blood pressure. That was soo nice. We were in and out so fast. Baby's heart was in the high 150's to low 160's where it's been pretty much this entire pregnancy so far and that was about it. My next appointment is October 19 (that's 4 weeks away, that's the longest stretch I've gotten, I'm thrilled).

Congrats on your girl Jenna!

Congrats on your boy Ali!

I'm down 3 pounds from pre-pregnancy weight as of this morning. Nothing has been said at all about my weight and I'm not bringing it to their attention since I'm not worried.

Thanks everyone for answering my QOTD about weight gain. It’s good to know I’m not too far off base! I have been reacquainted with the treadmill so hopefully that can slow the gain of "maternal fat stores" down a bit. :)

I’ve been having this weird sensation in my right bb. It’s not painful at all, but it’s like a nerve is hit and sends a sensation to the nip. Strange, so I am going to ask about it at my next dr’s appt next week. The boob fairy still hasn’t visited me yet so I’m not sure what’s going on in there!

meatpie
So the bbs have slowed down their overtaking of the body, huh? ;) I hope you get your test results in soon.

angelgirl

i'm pretty sure my boobs have no idea i'm pregnant!
I know the feeling, neither do mine! Awesome on the weight gain for having twins! And you look fantastic. I never would have guessed 19 lbs for you. It would have been much much less. :)

LooLoo
Oh my gosh, that is such awesome news about your amnio! Yay, I am so glad you got good results. Are you feeling better and able to get some sleep?

aligirl
Congratulations on your BOY! That is what both of you thought you were having, right?

lynnh
I was wondering too, does that mean she sneaked a peek and it’s a girl for sure?!? Ah, I’d be dying to know! When do you get to find out the results of your bladder scan? I hope everything comes out a-ok.

roe
Wow, I would have a hard time parting with $12,000 to redo the bathroom too. Are you guys handy at all? Is it possible to redo the bathroom yourselves? We redid our upstairs bath two winters ago and it ran us around $3500, but we did it ourselves and it was a total gut job. It took us several months to get it done but was worth doing it ourselves to save the $$. If you are definitely going to hire someone, I’d recommend getting at least 3 estimates on it. (the average people get are usually 5). Good luck! I know it’s stressful to have a room torn apart for a while, but when it’s done, it’s so worth it!

Kelly
Woohoo for being off bedrest! That is awesome news!

:D Mindy, Roe- We ended up registering for the Sealy Ultrasoft Mattress (I think that's what it was called) at Babies R' Us. It has 204 coils, a little more that Baby Bargains recommends, but felt more solid. I was still worried about my decision though because I am a worry-nut. Anyway, it was the one with the Central Park Toile pattern on it. I originally wanted to ge t a foam mattress to make middle of the night mattress changes easier, but with the new California standards, I am afraid that all of the fire-proofing chemicals might be a little worse than the mattress actually having a little bit of fluff, KWIM? Then DH told me "Please, like you are ever going to be the one to change the sheets in the middle of the night-" LOL. I guess that's true. That's what DH is there to help for, no? ;)

Hmm- pain in the boob sounds pretty common from when I asked at my last appnt. Just make sure that you are checking for little lumps where you could have blockage or really red bbs. My sister didn't notice she had mastitis while she was preg and it got really bad. Her bb's looked like someone had used them as a punching bag!

Meatpie- I too am waiting on the AFP results. I waited on Sat 2 hours to get one little vial of blood drawn for the test. Argh. I guess next time I will take some time off work to go in the middle of the day.

Angel- Only 19 pounds at 19 weeks? Fantastic! You look so much smaller than that, and of course, you are all baby belly!

Loo- I am really glad that the amnio was ok, and that the baby stayed out of the way! Sounds great that the "fish" test results were good- hopfully the trce amounts of blood are nothing you have to worry about. Rest and take care of yourself!

Ali- Congrats on the little BOY!

Lynnh- I think you'll be adding a little girl to the mix too! Causing trouble already… ;)

Roe- I completely understand the weight gain issue. I am so embarrassed to tell what I have gained. I still have no little belly so you can't tell I am pregnant. I just look like I have been eating cheeseburgers everyday for the past couple of months, and have gotten a bb job. Doctor is not worried because she says that women gain the weight differently spread throughout the trimesters.

You should get some more estimates on the bathroom. 12K sounds ok for my area, but everything is double what it should be here. I know NJ is a littl eexpensie too. We also did our own remodeling of our bathroom, but we didn't do it while I was pregnant and heading into the holidays. If I were you, I would not want to take on a project like that right now. If you can afford to spend some money, I say get someone to do it for you now before the baby. We are constantly using our second bathroom, and when the baby comes all of our family will need to use it too- so we need to make sure that both bathrooms are serviceable. Those would be the factors for us- HTH!

Kelly- YEAH for being off bedrest. You must be SO ready to get out and do get things done!

Cgriffin- Congrats on the little girl! I guess you're where one of the little girls was hiding! ;)

Have a good Tuesday everyone!

LooLoo I'm so happy the amnio was ok. Very nice that the baby is cooperating already!

Lynnh I hope your tests come back ok.

Roe I would definatly get a few more estimates. We redid ours back in the beginning of the year ourselves and it was only about 1500. My FIL and BIL helped (they build houses), which caused the project to last over a month, but we did save money.

Kelly Yeah! No more bedrest!!!

Cgriffin Congrats on your girl!!!

I just realized that with all the other stuff that was going on with me they never even tried to get me to take the AFP. By the time I go in again I'll be about 21 or so weeks so then it will be too late. I'm actually relieved because I was going to decline. Last pregnancy I started with them around 20 weeks because we moved and they gave me some grief about not having had the test done so I anticipated a big push but it never happened this time.

As I said I'm relieved but also annoyed because it's their job to offer the test and they spoke about it when it was too early and then at the right time they just didn't even mention it. I'd be so mad if they had over-looked it and I had wanted it. Does that make sense?

LRL
09-20-2005, 10:31 AM
Kelly- I would be annoyed as well if I were you. It is their responsibility to mention these things to you, and your responsibility to decide if this is something you wanted to do. Maybe since you were on bedrest, they didn't think of it since it was primarily important to get the baby to stay put! (Read: Not an excuse though, IMO).

I too was offput by my doctor never mentioning a Level II Ultrasound, but I realized that they just never mentioned it, and that they were just going to give me the ultrasound paperwork at the next appnt. DH tells me that I should have asked so that I would not have been ticked about it between appnts. I have had a hard time finding doctors that I like/am comfortable with and who also realize that they cannot pull the wool over my eyes. I am an informed patient who knows a lot about what they are talking about and issues that may occur (esp since I have a ton of family in medicine). Maybe most doctors aren't trained to handle informed patients? It used to be that you trusted your doctor and just nodded your head when he told you something. It's so different nowadays when you go to the doctor, KWIM?

Sorry for the long post to tell you that I totally understand!

cgriffin: congrats on your girl!!

Mindy: Yep, we both thought we were having a boy - although Jay swears that he was predicting a girl....

lynnh: you have to be having a girl! she's giving you so much trouble already!

Sorry not too many shout-outs..... I really need to get caught up on work! I've been having baby on the brain the last 2 days!
------

so... We're having a BOY :)

He weighs in at 10oz which is a little big for 19w 5d but that's good. His head & brain were measuring larger and the rest of him was right on with the due date from what I saw. His HB was 134 BPM and when we listened was nice and strong. He was lying butt down but that's probably changed by now. He's a little mover. :) One thing we didn't see was the stomach filling... the doctor didn't seem too worried - we were only with the u/s tech for a few minutes - but he wants to do another u/s in 4 weeks just to be safe. That's fine with me. Since he didn't sound worried, I'm not going to stress. Hopefully, if there's a problem, it's fixable. But, I'm really hoping we just didn't see the stomach because of the way he was lying... seriously, he was all scrunched up. Silly boy - doesn't he know his parents want to make sure he's doing ok :) The doctor was cool though - not my regular OB - she wanted me to meet the other docs in the practice- but he seemed very similar to her - laid back, mellow... nice. Jay asked the u/s tech how sure she was that he was a boy (I noticed the little boy parts right away!) she said "I wouldn't tell you if I wasn't certain - and I haven't been wrong yet!" (she's like 55 or so and has been doing it since u/s were available) Man, was Jay excited!!! :)

So for names we're thinking Alexander for his first name. We'd call him Alex of course. I love the sound of it with our last name. For his middle name, we think Joseph (my dad's middle name). We ruled out Philip (my dad's first name) because Jay doesn't like the name, James (jay's dad's first name) because it has too many A sounds, and Henry (jay's dad's middle name) because Jay doesn't like the name. So, we could be having Alexander Joseph in a few months :) I like the sound of it. Joseph is a good family name on my dad's side so that's nice.

Anyway, I finally gained weight!!! 5 lbs in 4 weeks. YIKES! But, the doctor was pleased that I'd finally gained something - me too - since it's all baby! :)
