I am extremely involved in the anti-war movement. I have to say I am definitely really disappointed in the Democratic Party for basically passing a bill that does not include benchmark dates...basically giving Bush a blank check to continue the war.
WTF?
At what point do the politicians REPRESENT the wishes of the PEOPLE?
Surely I can't be the only liberal who is extremely annoyed with my party. I think it's time for Instant Runoff Ballots. I don't know if I would go so far as to say Democrats are the same as Republicans, but I it certainly appears that way sometimes.

I am in agreement with you. I am so tired of thinking to myself "Well, so and so seems to be the lesser evil!" I should really believe in my canidate!
So far, none of the democratic canidates are impressing me. No one is standing up and giving a clear view of what they want for the country and for the war.
It seems like eveything is on hold until these elections next year. Until then, we are at a stand still. Bush is vetoing everything and nothing is getting done. I REALLY want Bush out and admit that anything is better than Bush but at this point, I still do not feel comfortable with any of the democrats running.

I agree. Sometimes I wonder WTF Cheney has on all of these people, to get them to cave the way they did. I wrote my Senator a scathing email a while back for voting for the Iraq funding bill...I've yet to hear back (big surprise  ).

My answer is kind of complicated. Even though I don't identify myself as a democrat (or a member of any party), I nearly always vote democrat. So I do feel I can answer.
I am disappointed in the party, but for many reasons, and not the one you stated.
I've been against the war since Bush first proposed it, but here's the thing. Now that we're there and Iraq is in turmoil, we can't just pull out and leave. Iraq will be a mess if we do that. We need to first make sure the country is as stable as possible and that it has a system of government that is working. We made this mess in Iraq and we have an obligation to clean it up. It's not fair to the Iraqi people to do otherwise.
I hate how the war is going right now. I want to see a solid plan for stabalizing Iraq. I'm hoping at least one of the candidates will understand that and make that happen.
As for the bill passing, the Dems were trying to get a point across, and they felt they did with the first bill that Bush vetoed. If they had kept passing the same bill, Bush would have kept vetoing it, and then the troops eventually would have suffered. I don't think the Dems were willing to put the troops at risk to keep making the same point.

I really just think they're biding their time until we get a Democrat president in there to really change things.

I'm an anti-war Democrat, and no, I'm not disappointed in the party. I'd like for us to get out, but it's not as though any one bill is for only one issue.

This is basically how I see it.

I agree. The Dems weren't willing to starve the troops until Bush gave in and I am with them on that decision.
Plus, now we know which party REALLY supports the troops. ;)
