I am so incredibly disgusted with this I am shaking.
We visited my in-laws in a very rural part of TN last week and stayed in their basement apartment. They frequently have visitors stay in this apartment from their church - many of the people they hardly know.
Our first night their, my 20 month old DD woke up screaming and pulling her hair out. I assumed her ears were bothering from the plane ride and gave her some tylenol. She did this all 3 nights we were there. On the day we left, I noticed a very swollen lymph node behind her ear. I realized that I was dealing not with an ear infection, but probably a local skin infection. After searching her hair, I found numerous red welts on the back of her head.
I assumed these were spider bites from playing outside (I did see alot of spiders). We have been home for over a week, and now my 3 year old DS has similar bites all over the back of his head and neck. I also woke up this am with two very itchy red bumps on my neck and scalp. My son and I did not have any bumps until one week after we got home.
Is it possible that we brought these fleas home with us and now have some type of infestation? We don't have any pets and have never had anything like this in our home, so I really feel think its from our trip.
It's definitely not lice (I've seen it before) and I'm pretty sure it's not scabies (gross) since it's only on our heads and necks. How the heck do I get rid of this?
I had my husband call my in-laws and found out that the Pack N Play she slept in had been stored in the garage. They had also brought the Pack N Play to their church where random kids used it every now and then! I would never have put my daughter in that crib if I had know that!
My Dh recently lost his job and we haven;t applied from COBRA yet (hoping he will find another job quickly), so I really can't take the kids to their ped unless it's an emergency. And I don't want to sit in an office full of kids if this is contagious.
Any advice?
