Question for a vet or vet tech??

I have a german sheperd/akita mix. She'll be 7 September, 25th. She has akita like fur. We get her shaved a few times in the summer. She has these pimple like bumps on her skin. Like ingrown hairs. We find them because they're hard. Sometimes they'll even fall out and then a white, cheesy substance comes out of the hole. It doesn't look like pus and it does not have an odor. She has one spot on her rear leg and that is big. That thing fell out today and a lot of "cheesy" stuff came out. They never go away either. That hole will just crust up again and the process will be repeated.
What is this? Are they just ingrowns? They don't seem to hurt her. Has anyone seen something like this before? I will take her to the vet is need be. Right now we don't have the money to just off and take her if the issue is no big deal. If it is, off to the vet she goes.

Well, you know what I'm going to say, right? ;)

Without examining your dog, it's impossible to say what the problem is. The skin is just so darn complicated, it could be any number of things ranging from no big deal, to very big deal. The "cheesy" stuff is kind of concerning.

I do think it's worth a vet visit, especially since it hasn't gone away.

I took her to the vet. They're sebaceous cysts. The vet said it's no big deal. If they're not causing her any pain just leave them be. If the big one near her hind is messed with we have to make sure it doesn't get infected. We're to call the vet and get a dose of antibiotic treatment. The vet said this is common. I'm relieved but I'm still a little grossed out by them.
