This show is AWFUL! The crowd can boo the contestants and it just breaks my heart to watch. It's one thing for the judges to be harsh but for the audience to literally boo you during your performance is heart breaking!! I could only watch for a few minutes.
And as a sidenote, the girl who did the ventriloquism said she'd done a "few pageants" and what she meant by that was that she was the first ever Miss America Teen last year which is the new teen pageant associated with the Miss America program. I feel like it would be pretty embarrassing to go from Miss America to this stupid show!

We watched it. I think for the most part it's entertaining. I do feel bad for the kids who get ripped apart. Like the little girl, Breeze ( to her name, sorry). It was pretty clear that her mom pushed her into doing this but I don't think it was appropriate for Piers to say it to her. She didn't really seem to understand.
Oh! And the kid who sang the same song as Bianca Ryan. I HATE when someone comes the year after a winner and tries to outdo them. She wasn't as good. I felt bad for her. It was a bad choice.
The Pec Brothers were hilarious.
We watched last year and will probably watch this year out of boredom. It gets interesting once actual talent competes.

DH and I enjoyed it. I thought the human slinky (at least that's what I called it) was pretty cool. Kids would definitely enjoy it.
I did NOT enjoy seeing Piers talk to the kids the way he does. But I guess that's what makes the show. The judges are so like AI that it's crazy. I'm glad that Sharon stood up and said something the Piers and I'm glad he did say he was sorry to Breeze. I do agree with him in thinking that her mom pushed her. She sounded like a robot when she was replying to the judges.
We'll probably watch the whole season.
We watched it (since there wasn't much else on). It was entertaining to a point. I did feel bad was Peirs ripped into that little girl, but I do agree that her mom was the one pushing her. Sorry, I wouldn't let my little 9 year old girl (ok, when she was 9) dress like that or move like that.

I don't know. Yes, Piers was harsh, but please! That girl had no exceptional talent. Why was her mom deluding her? She can have fun and participate without being the best. Her lipstick was horrendous, too. On a 9 year old! Yuck! I didn't like watching her perform.
I liked the ventriloquist girl! First Miss America Teen - that's pretty interesting! I don't think it's enough to go much farther, though.

That was hard to watch, and I'm pretty much entertained by anything. (Some of) Those contestants reeked of desperation, and to me that was sad.
I told my husband this is why I think parents need to be more honest with their children. It's a joke in our house about how my parents crushed my childhood dreams when I was 8...but better they be honest then, than have that kind of thing done to you on live TV. I really can't sing...I'm OK with that now. :D

Brad was like...she's 9? She should be doing back flips not one handed cartwheels. :p
I think it's a shame that her mom did that to her. I mean, I get that parents are biased but seriously. And if she's on a cheerleading squad then that means there are 15 other girls who can do exactly what she was doing. I do feel bad for kids like that. Their parents really set them up for disappointment.

This show is painful to watch! I refuse to see it with DH anymore. However, if you have access to British Television their version (Britain's Got Talent) is SO MUCH better. It has Simon Cowell and Piers as judges (and a woman too). Sadly it appears that the UK has much more talent than we do!
I have been watching some of the clips from Britain's Got Talent on YouTube and its so much better. There seems to be alot more talent in Britain. I can barely watch this show, the talent is bad and the drama between the judges is just over the top. I know last year it got better once they got to the 2nd round. Hopefully, that will happen again this year. Until then, youtube clips of Britain's version is much more entertaining.

Did anyone watch last night?
I have no idea what the judges are thinking, but Boy Shakira and the Bollywood dancer are in the top 20. Bollywood guy is interesting because you don't see a lot of Bollywood dancing here, but the thing is, he's not actually a good Bollywood style dancer. :p

I didn't want to start a whole new thread for the newest season of the show that started last night so I'm bumping this one up.
I didn't watch the whole show but I do have to say that I am so happy I caught this little girl. Did anyone else see it and have some tears while she was singing??
If you missed it, here is the link on youtube

Smitten If it's the little 4-year old...I sobbed my heart out. My DH is 4 and while she's incredibly shy, when she sings it's so sweet and pure. So much like the little girl last night.
I also thought the opera guy at the end was amazing. I cried listening to him as well.
Did you see the Britney impersonator....OMG

I watched it and was so happy that the crowd was so supportive of the baton guy. He was teased enough in his life, for sure, for choosing to stick with a talent he loves so much (my brother played the flute and got teased for that) and boy was he not only entertaining to watch but he was really good! If I had attempted even twirling one baton I would have bonked myself in the head and knocked myself out. That guy had, what, 3 flaming batons?? Wow! And you could tell his mother was just so supportive and hadn't ever pressured him into doing it.

Loved Eli last night. He's pretty cute too!:)
And the girl with the two guys that jumped and did flips on the board/pipe thingy. She was really good.
No one else really caught my eye.

My friend Cassie was on last night - AKA Miss Pussykatt. I don't know why out of all of her "talents" she did the body grinding, it didn't seem that interesting. She does burlesque, so she's got quite a few routines of different things.

I feel like I'm watching Jerry Springer. Was the audience this obnoxious last season? Doesn't seem like it.

06-25-2008, 02:15 PM
I agree, I thought the audience's in each of the cities were really tought.
The young guy with the amazing blue eyes that sang...yowza!! The girl jumping on that pole...my heart was in my throat watching her.
meganth I LOVE your friends hair! That blue and then the purple...very cool. Her act was very interesting and watching David H. watch her was highly amusing.
It seems like they aren't showing that many acts as they have in prior years. Definitely more talking.
How funny was Sharon with the Elvis impersonator. I thought he was OK to watch, but he kept repeating the same lines of the song over and over and his dancing seemed a little stiff. Of course, it might have been the leather jumpsuit he was wearing.

I said it last year and I'll say it again, America doesn't have talent. LOL! The American version is downright painful to watch. However, if you have access to the Britian's Got Talent 2008 show it's great! The "hosts" are funny (subtle humor) and the judges are far less tacky (although Piers is on both shows, I'm a fan of him).
Just saying.

I think it's on "I tv". Some segments can be found on youtube as well. Yes, I agree that many British shows are better than ours. For example their Apprentice is SO MUCH better than ours it's hard to even think it's the same format. They have Sir Allen Sugar (billionaire) and I find it to be far less cheesy. They also have beautiful images of London as well as interesting music. Basically it has cinematography that is far superior to ours. And it goes without saying that the accents and unusual phrases/words are fun to listen to.

I watched last night. They have some excellent acts this year. You know, I hate to say it but I honestly think the little girl should go home. She's cute as all heck but she's too young to ever be able to do the Vegas prize and I think the other talent is better than her.
I also think the baton twirler, as wonderful as he is (and he is wonderful), should go home as well. He has a wonderful story and it's great he got this far but compared to some of the other talent, I just think he's kind of stuck as far as variety goes.

I've missed the last couple episodes because our DVR didn't record them.
I hear that the little girl is still in it, and I agree with you, she's cute and all but she's just a boring singer. I don't know how she got this far, it's not like she'll make on her own show.
I absolutely adore the piano player/singer. I hope he wins it, I can see myself sitting through one of his concerts. He sings with such emotion that I love watching him.

I'm still shaking my head about how the little girl got even past the very first round of auditions. She's cute and knows all the words to the songs, but does that really qualify her for having "talent"? The poor thing is 4 years old and simply looks confused. Love Neil E. Boyd. He is just magnificent.

We're DVRing it but I don't plan to watch more than Joe Hall and the little old man. I think (overall) the top ten this year are pathetic. Neil Boyd and the other opera guy are good, and I can see them on Broadway, but not in Vegas.
1. That little girl (fine, she's cute) does NOT belong in the top 10. She didn't belong in the top 40. I'm glad the judges seem to be realizing the horrible mistake they made by putting her through. What would this little girl do in Vegas?
2. What's with all of the singers? I don't get it. This isn't Aged American Idol.
My main problem with this season (besides the little girl issue) is the prize. I don't think anyone besides Joe Hall or little old Sinatra impersonator have a shot at a Vegas gig. Who is going to pay money to go watch someone sing? Sure, people will go see Celine or some other already famous person but I cannot imagine shelling out money to see a virtually unknown act.
I was hoping to see a dancing group (not the cheerleaders or college teams, that was silly) and the drummers (Cadence?). It's going to be a boring top 10.
And seriously, if the little girl doesn't go first, I will not finish the season.

Thank goodness the little girl is gone! My goodness. It was painful to watch her be so scared each week. How did that not kill her parents?
I can't believe Emily beat Joe Hall. I thought for sure an Elvis impersonator would be in the final.
I thought it was SO tacky when Jessica's family was booing that Eli beat her.
I'm hoping Nuttin' But Strings wins. They are amazing!

My Final 5 Analysis: :p
Eli - Good but not great. He wouldn't win Idol and he shouldn't win this. I'm sure he'll get a record deal, but he just sounds like every other singer who's popular right now.
Queen Emily - Um. No. Again, she's good, could probably get a record deal, but would I pay money to see her in VEGAS? No. I think the voters are forgetting that the prize is Vegas.
Donald - I love Donald, he has a sweet story and a great voice. He would be really good in a Broadway show but not as a solo performer.
Neil E. Boyd - This is going to get me in trouble but I had to look the top 5 up to even remember he's in it. I really like him. He seems like a nice guy with a great musical talent. However, I think a limited number of people who are voting would actually buy his CD or concert tickets.
Nuttin' But Strings - I think they are this is what AGT is supposed to be about. I really wish we had some more of this style and fewer singers. Of the final 5, they are the most deserving.
Again, I just think the prize is stupid. I wouldn't take time out of a trip to Vegas to see any of them.
Kimberland30

Kim- you are already married!
I know, Jeff reminds me of that anytime we watch this show. :o
Kimberland30

See, of all the Top 5, Eli is the only one I would buy a ticket to see or CD of. He is an incredible piano player, and his singing has so much raw emotion. IMO of course.
Nuttin but Strings is really good, but I'm already getting bored of them. Seriously, how many times do we have to watch them play whilst on their knees? They have a great sound and incredible talent, but each week they sound the same.
I'm not too keen on all the opera singers. I don't mind opera, but I can't imagine sitting through a whole show of just their singing.
imagirliegirl
09-22-2008, 03:08 PM
Yeah but would you want to see Eli in Vegas?
I'm just thinking it would take someone really amazing for me to spend time and money on a concert in Vegas.
I'm not even going to watch the final 5. I don't care who wins. There were a lot of great acts that didn't make it that would have been way better finalists for Vegas.
Kimberland30
09-23-2008, 07:17 AM
If I were going to Vegas, he'd the the only act I'd pay for.
Maybe it's because he reminds me so much of Elton John - who I paid $150 to see in concert. :o

Whoa! My husband and I were just watching The Life of David Gale and Donald Braswell is in it!!! When she's looking through tapes at Dusty's house he's got one of an opera singer. We were both like, no way!! I imdb'd Donald and it was totally him! :)

Just happened to catch Neal & Eli tonight. For the first time, I disliked Eli. He just sounds like he's trying way too hard. I thought he killed Against All Odds. Wouldn't buy that CD.
Not that I would buy Neal's CD, either, but I do think he sounded much more talented.

Well after watching last night, I truly believe that Nuttin' But Strings will win it. And I'd be okay with that. They put on one hell of a show last night, although I still think they sound the same every week.
Eli was good, but I didn't like his song choice. It was nice to see him without the hat though. I love the song he sang, but it sounded like he missed words (you couldn't hear them) and yeah, it did sound like he was trying too hard. But I still like him, I just don't see him winning - even with my 20 votes.
Queen Emily: Very very good, but up against NBS I don't think she will win.
Donald Braswell: I'm so very tired of that song. He has a great voice, but again, I don't think he will win.
Neil E. Boyd: He wasn't my Top 5 to begin with. He's good, but not great IMO.
I still think it will be Eli up against NBS, with NBS winning.

This is my first season really watching the show (I caught just the finale last year), so I didn't know how they did the finals. But I kinda like it instead of drawing it out longer.
Anna Low

I really like Nuttin but Strings - they are an unusual act in that they aren't singers or dancers.
Eli is ok - I think he plays the piano much better than he sings. Queen Emily just kind of screams.
Donald and Neal are my favorites and I think that Neal's talent is just so far beyond the show. But I think Donald is a fan favorite.

They've made it sound all season like they'd get a year-long gig in Vegas. Yet last night Springer made it sound like it was a ONE night headlining gig. Does anyone know what the real deal is?
I watched, but only because nothing else was on. It didn't really matter who won. Well, I didn't want Emily to win. The rest of the singers were relatively equal (as in equally uninteresting). The top 10 singing "A Moment Like This" was so stupid.
Kimberland30
10-02-2008, 08:06 AM
Yeah, the Top 10 song was stupid.
Anyway, I can't believe that NBS didn't win, or at least place higher in the standings. However, I'm surprised with the winner period, just because I didn't think he was all that great - never have. And it's not just because his genre of music isn't my thing...he just didn't really stand out to me.
I thought for sure it would be a toss up between NBS and Eli.
Oh well.
