I am FREAKING out as my poor furbaby is lethargic and in pain (he whined pitifully about 30 minutes ago) and I think it's because I let him eat raisins and grapes that my 1 year old DD threw to him. He didn't get a lot, but he's only 12 pounds to begin with so a handful of the stuff can cause kidney failure, according to the ASCPA! I just read 2 arrticles on their site about it. Here's one if you're interested:

I called the emergency vet but they said they close at 7 and that by the time I got down there, I'd just have to drive him to our regular vet so I'm waiting helplessly here.

I feel like such a horrible mom! Hope this warning helps someone else. I'll be back to post an update soon.

I got this warning from the rescue where we adopted our pup.

Just remember CORGI! No Chocolate, Onions, Raisins, or Grapes, Indeed!

Chocolate I knew, but I never would have thought about onions, raisins, or grapes.

Yikes.. I give our lab grapes every time I buy them. He *loves* them. And he was munching on a piece of onion yesterday. I feel like a bad dog owner now.

i hope your furbaby is Ok!

rocky 'steals' bad stuff all the time - he once got a hold of an avocado (which i've also heard is bad for them) and ate the entire thing minus the pit. *shaking my head*

Oh, dear, I feel like an awful mommy now. I had no idea grapes were bad for dogs! We've given Blue grapes sometimes, or let him eat one or two when they fell on the floor. Luckily nothing happened to him, but he's a big guy. I hope your furbaby is okay, smiles33, keep us posted!

Sorry for the delay in updating this thread. I am thankful (though a little embarrassed) to report I jumped the gun. Poor Scrappy was hurt, but it was a slipped disc so he's on Prednisone (sp?) for a few weeks. The vet doesn't think the grapes and raisins had any effect on him. Thankfully, he's already back to his old self as the vet gave him a shot and I've been giving him the Prenisone pills every morning. The silver lining in this scary incident is that now I know all about the other foods dogs aren't supposed to get! I always thought it was just chocolate.

Thank you all for your support!

I feel your pain! A couple weeks ago our bigger dog ate half a bag of chocolate-covered raisins- I was in a panic! Thank goodness he's a big fella, so the people at the ER vet said the amount he had shouldn't be poisonous, but whew! it's a nerve-wracking thing, isn't it?

When I was 12, and we had our first dog, a toy poodle, he got into my mother's handbag, and ate an entire bag of toll house morsels! He had thhis huge grin on his face, then began vomiting, thank goodness . . . Never again!

Glad to hear your dog's okay smiles33, and thanks for posting that info. I had no idea that those things were bad for dogs (other than chocolate), and have given my dog grapes from time to time (maybe 1-2 only). Luckily she's a big girl and never had any problems, but I won't do it again.
