I have searched but found nothing.

I am going to a conference in Geneva in September. The easiest place to stay would be the hotel where the conference is, but I noticed it is a little out of the centre of the city (it is near the airport). I would rather stay in the centre and travel to the meeting when necessary, that way I am close to restaurants, museums, the lake etc so may see more of these.

Has anyone been to Geneva? Can you confirm the cbd/centre is where most things are? Can you recommend any nice hotels in the area? I have really (obviously) only done very preliminary research.

Thanks in advance.:)

I spent a summer in Geneva in 2000, but I lived in a flat, so I can't give you any hotel recs. Well, I did stay in a hotel near the train station while I was looking for housing right after I arrived (my internship came together at the very last minute, and I didn't have time to make all the arrangements), but it was just OK.

I do agree that downtown is the place to be if you want to explore, but it's also not hard to get into town from the airport. They have a very good bus/light rail system. In general, I found the travel guides I used to be right on about the most interesting areas of the city, so I'd do some research and go with your gut, honestly.
