Hi ladies! I'm kinda in the central FL area, maybe more north, in Gainesville. Andrea, I know we talked about doing one before, I really think it would be a lot of fun to plan!

Hey Ladies... checking in :D

I'm in Orlando-- East Orlando (not far from UCF)...

I have to say-- isn't it nice to all be on "equal" terms? No separation between who's married and who's not? I always felt that way on the WC... maybe it's just me though??? :o

Anyways-- a GTG sounds fun!

Wrighty26: Hi, I am in East Orlando also near UCF (Waterford Lakes to be specific). What about you?

Nice to see so many of us Central Floridians are on CC!
I think some of you are fellow UF alumni like me also!
It would be great to have a GTG and meet everyone! :)

bellaprincess-- We, too, live in Waterford Lakes! We are building a house near Avalon Park (the neighborhood is off Avalon Park Blvd) soon (we have a lot, and it's just sitting there). Things like this remind you that we live in a very small world.

I must admit though- Dan (my hubby) and I are FSU alumni:D

Are you orginally from Orlando? or did you move here after college???

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Wrighty26: What a small world! I live really really close to the shopping center( actually just right off Alafaya). I am originally from a tiny town just north of Gainesville. Are you from Orlando?
I came to Orlando when I graduated from UF to do my Master's degree( in Public Administration) at Troy State University's Winter Park campus. I really love the area we live in! Avalon Park is beautiful and you are going to have a great house! I drove out there the other day and was shocked to see the Publix is already finished!
Did you and your DH meet in FSU? We can have some friendly FSU/UF rivalary here ( or at least during football season!). :)

Hi Annielynn! Your son is ADORABLE... what part of Orlando do you live in?

Andrea--I'm all for staying to plan! Where do you think we should have a GTG?? Where's a good halfway point?? I'm of course hoping to stay in Orlando for this shingdig-- but I'm flexible :D

Bellaprincess-- We live REALLY close to each other! I live in the apts off of Lk Underhill, near the corner of Alafaya :D Oh, and my husband works at the Ashley Furniture in the shopping center! We really should meet up for coffee or something soon! I did go to high school here (Boone...woo-hoo!), then left for Tally for 8 years (it sucked me in!), and then finally moved back here last November.

I'm so excited to actually meet some of you :p

I'm all for staying in Orlando too for this GTG. Last time, I drove to Tampa, and the drive took me 3 hours each way. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time, but I'm not up for driving long distances this time. As far as a place, I'm up for anything. Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney kinda jumps out at me since I'm right here at Disney. But anything is fine with me! :D

annielynn- For real? You graduated from Boone too? I graduated c/o 96-- so I'm a little behind-- but I guess I was a freshman there when you were a senior! Strange world we live in :)

As far as a GTG goes-- I was going to suggest one of the restaurants out near Mall at Millenia (they have Cheescake Factory, Brio, PF Changs, among others)... because it's also an excuse to go shopping--but I'll go with the majority, of course :D

I like the idea of something over by the Mall at Millenia. But I am up for any place local.

I think the Mall of Millenia restaurants sound good! When are we all available? Weekends, weekday nights? I'm available Thursdays-Sundays all day.

I don't even know if I can ask this on here, but was wondering... I'm planning on hosting a Southern Living at Home party sometime in July or August, and I was wondering if any of you would be interested in coming. If you are, PM me and I'll keep you updated on when and where the party will be. Thanks!

I graduated in 1995, my class reunion was just a few weeks ago when I went to FL for vacation but I didn't go. We drove to FL from TX, & stopped in MS on the way to see my inlaws and the reunion was actually a 2 day thing, we arrived in FL on the day of the 2nd event but I didn't want to go after being in a car for 10 hours and it was $70 a person. My sis went to OHS too I think she graduated in 98 if I remember correctly. Sure is a small world. :)

Annielynn-- It is a small world. Hee. I'll have to whip out the yearbooks and see if I recognize your sister! I would probably recognize her if I saw her-- names have started to slip (although, I'm still in denial about graduating from high school 9 years ago!). BTW- the area you live in is where I grew up (for most of middle/high school I lived in Conway Place)...

Hey maxandmolly! Do you like living in Lakeland? My hubby had to work at his store over there last week... he was surprised at how close it was!

As for a GTG, my schedule is generally wide open. I usually do stuff on Mon and Wed nights-- and I work M-F 8-5 :D

For the GTG- How about the weekend of July 29- 31 since we're all pretty much open on weekends?

The restaurants at Mall at Millenia are (as far as I remember)...
California Pizza Kitchen
Cheesecake Factory
PF Chang's
Blue Martini
Brio Tuscan Grille
TGIFriday's
Mimi's Cafe

What do you all think?

Hiya,

I kept my name from WC - "jeepgirl." I live in the Orlando/Altamonte Springs area... I'm also very familiar with Waterford Lakes since I have family over on that side of town.

I would be interested in a get together, just haven't kept up with this thread because if it happens during one of my semesters "in session" (meaning not on a break) its really hard for me. (They've been cramming tests close together and finals are coming up. I've been averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night. Its Crazy.) The good news is I will be off for about a month after July 28, so, other than working and taking a vacation in August, I might be able to make it. Consider this my "subscription" so I can keep up and see if I can go!

Hi everyone- I live in Winter Springs. I have lived in Central Fla since I was 2 (well, except for those college and military years). Anyway, I graduated from Lake Howell High School but I must be quite a bit older than all of you because I was in the class of 1987! Anyway, it's great to see so many of you from this area!

are you looking to rent/buy? The New Tampa area is nice. St. Pete and Clearwater are nice but if you work in Tampa the commute can be horrible with the traffic and accidents on the bridges.

What else do you want to know?

ITA, with Kristen. It can be a horrible commute. I did it daily for a few years while I attended USF in Tampa and the best part about graduation was knowing I never had to do that drive again! :)

I can honestly say it is one of the biggest factors keeping me from applying to USF for my masters degree. It is just too awful for words. I'm hoping that eventually I will be able to take classes at the St. Pete campus. I just can't do that commute again!

Thanks girls. Well, we'll probably move to the clearwater area because my dad and step-mother live there and taht is a big part of the move. I plan to enroll at USF in the summer after we move up there, so i'm now thinking that maybe we should look into student housing there (when i went to FAU down here they had student housing on campus that was realy nice and SOOOO inexpensive). However, that is still up in the air. I may not enroll until NEXT fall, in wich case i would want to be closer to my dad when we move up. We are looking to rent for now, but would like to buy in the next few years. W'll see what happens. Anywhooo....DH and I are putting our resumes together to send up to my dad so he can start handing them out, lol. And we're looking into apts near or in clearwater. Thanks for all your advice girls.

Hi Ladies-

I hope you don't mind if I chime in here...I don't live in Central Fl yet, but will be moving there shortly. My husband got promoted/transferred and we'll be moving in a few short months. I know nothing about the Orlando area (except that I visited there to go to Disney when I was 7!). We're heading down this weekend to look around and start the house hunting process. Do any of you mind telling me where in Orlando you live and other areas you would suggest to someone? A few we are considering are Oviedo, Windermere and Waterford Lakes. Are those good areas, bad, etc.?

I'm sure as the time for us to move gets closer, I'll have a ton of questions. I'm so happy to have found this group!

Wrighty26
08-08-2005, 03:02 PM
All 3 of those areas are nice :)

I live in Waterford Lakes and we're building a house near Avalon Park. A lot of my coworkers live in Oviedo/Winter Springs. I don't actually know anyone who lives in Windemere, but my parents came *this close* to moving there when we moved to Orlando in '89.

The reason we picked Waterford Lakes (I grew up in Conway, and my DH was born and raised in Winter Park) is because it's a young area, there's a lot of opportunities for growth, and because it's close to my job :) It's also convienent to almost all of the highways/toll roads.

What exactly are you looking for? Where in Orlando will your DH be working?

Feel free to PM me with any questions :) We just moved back here ourselves (from Tallahassee) last November!

jeepgirl
08-08-2005, 06:41 PM
I agree, all three areas are nice. Here's my take on the two I'm more familiar with.

Waterford Lakes -
Pros: Very nice, everything is "new" in the area, great shopping.
Cons: Even though there is easy access to the highways, you'll pay a lot in tolls to get almost anywhere... I know, cuz I lived with relatives for a couple of months when I moved here and they lived right off of Alafaya Trail (main road in the Waterford Lakes area). I also feel the cost of apartments, homes, etc. tends to be a little bit higher in this area than in other areas of Orlando (such as Winter Springs). There are also less trees and greenery/shrubbery in general in this area (not a big deal if you aren't a "tree" person like me!) :)

Oviedo/Winter Springs -
Pros: Great shopping here too, although the shopping "areas" are a bit more spread out. I also feel that housing is a little bit less expensive in this area, and that the "population" is a little bit less "congested." You can actually find spots that feel a bit more "tucked away" here, in my opinion.
Cons: Depending on where you live, highway access may not be as convenient as it would be in Waterford Lakes, therefore making "getting around" somewhat more time consuming.

Thanks for the feedback, ladies! Like I said before, I really know nothing about the Orlando area and am excited to find out more. I'll be heading down there tomorrow for about 4 days, so I know we'll be doing lots of driving. Hopefully it will all start to make sense to me. One more question...I've also heard a lot about the Deland/Debary areas to the north. Are those totally far away, more rural, etc. or is it a nice place to live?

Thanks!

Deland and Debary are pretty far out. The commute to Orlando is pretty bad from Volusia county (I-4 is often a parking lot). The commute to Seminole county wouldn't be so bad, but I would just choose to live in Seminole county if you're working there. The housing prices are lower in Deland and Debary, though.

BTW, I've never posted in here before but I've lived my whole life in Central Florida. I've lived in Lake county, UCF area, Clearwater, and I'm now living in Seminole county. Hi!

Wrighty26
08-11-2005, 04:55 AM
Yeah, the commutes from the North are a little insane! My brother works for Lockheed on the East side of town (in Waterford Lakes area)-- he used to commute from Lake Mary and on a good day, relatively early in the morning, it took him about 45 minutes to get to work.

I have a coworker who commutes from Deland every day. It takes him an hour-- only because he found some crazy shortcut! I work by UCF (in Research Park), btw.

If you would rather live in the vicinity of Orlando you might be better off looking into Titusville (east coast)...though that area is supposedly getting pretty crazy too-- or go southwest and look into someplace near Lakeland (between Orlando/Tampa). Of course, this all depends where you/DH will be working!

Hope you have a great trip :) Despite some traffic issues and highway tolls I really LOVE living in Orlando!

GA_GAL
08-11-2005, 09:14 AM
I've heard lots about the traffic (from a number of people) and I'm sure that might play a role in our decision. We currently live in Atlanta and deal with crazy traffic on a daily basis. I drive about 45 min. to and from work now and have gotten used to it. However, my DH will be working from home most days and will have a very flexible schedule. I have no idea what I'm going to be doing yet. Since we don't know exactly when we'll be moving, it is hard for me to tell a future employer when I can begin. I'm figuring I can just take my time, get settled down there, and then start looking for something. We'll see! Although I'm not teaching right now, my background is education, so I've thought a lot about going back to that. Then, I could work close to home and it wouldn't matter where we lived.

You all have been so helpful already and I know that you will be a great resource for a number of things (good restaurants, things to do, dr. recommendations, etc.). I leave this afternoon for Orlando and can't wait to drive around. My hope is that I will just fall in love with a particular area. I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks again.

Well, my trip to Orlando was quite an experience. I feel like we drove a million and one miles and saw every area imaginable. It was kind of depressing though. The real estate market in Orlando is very different from Atlanta. To get a home comparable to what we have in Atlanta we'd be spending about $100,000 more than we will get for our house. That is a lot of money!!! My husbands promotion will help and we could afford it, but don't want to be "house poor" and since we don't know what I'll be doing for a job yet it is hard to justify paying that much for a house. We know that we don't want to rent though.

The area I really liked best was Oviedo. I'm a suburbia kind of girl and it is very similar to the suburb we live in here in Atlanta and I liked the style of homes there. Also, the nearby shopping is great...give me Target, TJ Maxx and Home Depot and I'm good to go! The other area we really fell in love with was Winter Park or Maitland. Although it is different from the newer communities out in the suburbs, I loved the quaint feel of the neighborhoods, the big oak trees, sidewalks, parks, etc. I think we are going to try and get an older/smaller home and "update it" with some renovations. My husband is very handy and likes doing that sort of thing. I just hope I can live through the renovations without pulling my hair out. We figure if we are ever going to live in town, now is the time (before we have kids and need a bigger house). I think I was just under the impression that I would be able to move to Orlando and have the same type of thing I have here...now that I see that isn't really an option and that we've started to think about going another route, I'm really getting excited about it. It will be a big change and an adjustment (I don't know where we are going to put all of our furniture...storage, I guess), but it will be fun.

We just got an offer on our house. It was not as high as we were hoping, but we are going to counter and see what happens. I may be moving even sooner than I had thought. I will keep you all posted!

The real estate market in Orlando is depressing! I keep thinking about how we COULD have moved here a year prior and bought a FANTASTIC house for a lot less than we are spending... but at the same time, I'm happy with what did got (or will have once the building is complete!).

Winter Park is definitely a cute place-- DH grew up there-- and his grandparents still live there-- if you could find a house there, it would DEFINITELY keep in value.

Good luck selling your house! Let us know when you move down here :D

I go to school in Daytona Beach, FL (I'm from NC) so I'm not too familiar with the central florida area other than how to get to the airport....lol

However, I do have a friend who lives in Altamonte Springs and loves it. She and her husband are a young couple (in their early 30's) with two girls (9 and 13) and they really like the area. Just thought it might be something you'd want to check out. Again...I don't know a whole lot about the area.

I'm so glad to have found this thread. I moved here last October. DH and I rented and didn't realize how expensive houses down here are. We moved from Ohio. We did buy a house and we closed in June. I'm so glad to have a house. I too kept thinking we should have moved here a year earlier. And our house would have been a lot cheaper! Let's just say the house we bought was built 8 years ago and the owner made more than $100,000 on it. It is terrible the prices of homes here. When I have kids that are looking for a home, what will the prices be by then? They will never afford it.

Is there any word on a gtg? I was on the wc as ashleybam. I would love to gtg. We live 30 minutes from orlando.

Yeah the population has been exploding for the last 15 years - I lived out by UCF on University Blvd near the econ trail and have seen a lot of changes/developments in the area. When my FH's parents bought in the early 1990's their subdivision was in an orange grove on a dirt road - now it's Darlene drive and the houses are over a million dollars in that area. It's insane.

If you want more housing bang for your buck you might want to consider oviedo or davenport. both are only recently becoming suburban areas.

The entire nation is under a house buying bug. As soon as the rates go back up then it'll dribble off again. That's when you buy land for cheap in the middle of nowhere. After all, that's how one of the first new york millionaires made all his money - buying the majority of the island of manhattan when no one wanted it and leasing it/selling off chunks a bit at a time as the market demand rose!

Someone mentiones windemere to move to -my FBIL lives there and wouldn't do it again if given the option. You're right next to ilesworth (aka basketball star winter home ville) and the police there LIVE to give people tickets for going 2 miles over the speed limit or not completely stopping at a stop sign. I have personally experienced the latter with a Winter park policeman. I went to winter park high school and saw first hand how little those people have to do there! :p

Anyway, you'll like it in Orlando - I've been to a lot of places and never met more friendly people in general. When I lived in Michigan people took a while to open up. Not here!

Hey, did you ladies ever decide on doing a GTG?? I think I might be interested since I'm over in Daytona Beach and don't know a single person. :( Where exactly is the Millenia Mall?? I know it's in Orlando off of I-4, would it be faster for me to take I-4 all the way to the exit or hope on SR 417 to aviod traffic. I would be interested in coming over and making a trip out of it and doing some shopping.

Wrighty26
09-04-2005, 05:57 PM
We still haven't done a GTG! We're such slackers ;) Mall at Millenia is right off of I-4 (the Conroy Rd exit). If you are close to I-4, it's honestly just easier to take that into Orlando (well, at least it's cheaper!). I commuted for a summer from Orlando to Daytona and it took about an hour every day, even with traffic (sometimes longer on the way home--but that's b/c I would hit 5 o'clock downtown traffic).

I'm still up for a GTG!
BTW- Hi Sonia!!!!

I'm in-- I can only do daytime stuff on the weekends though!

P.F. Chang's is great! They give you SOOOOO much (good) food-- and for a decent price.

Now that we have a place-- let's determine a date/time!

I'll throw one out: October 16th (Saturday) @ 1

bellaprincess - I was wondering where you were-- I hadn't seen around these boards at all! I'm sure you did great on the MCAT-- good luck filling out Med School applications-- where do you want to go/where are you applying? What field of medicine do you want to go into? Sorry about the 20 questions. My brother's girlfriend just finished med school and is now doing her residency.

I love love love the great Wall of Chocolate cake there!! So delish!
P. S. I just answered you in your journal!

So ladies, I guess we can go ahead and announce that our first GTG is tentatively planned for Sat. Oct. 15 @ 1pm at P.F. Chang's in the Milenia Mall! ;)

We should try and get a rough idea of how of us will be attending so we can call and make a reservations a couple of days before the event.

Can't wait to meet everyone!

*****Attention Central Florida Ladies*****

I am a photography major (for any of you that haven't visited my journal..lol) over in Daytona Beach. We are ALWAYS looking for people that are willing to "sit" for us and do portraits. Usually in the studio or on location such as in a park or at the beach.

I"m from NC and just came down here for school so I don't know a lot of people so it's hard for me to find people willing to get their picture taken. Also, I don't know many people with children down here and some people feel funny about a stranger wanting to take pictures of their kids.

If any of you ladies are interested/willing to have your picture taken or would like family/kid's portraits done and are in the Daytona Beach area or near by and willing to travel please contact me. I do most of my work digital would be happy to give you some prints for free if anyone wants to get their picture taken.

Feel free to check out my journal or e-mail me for more information or to see some of my work. Also if you have any questions or you would like to speak to someone in my department at Daytona Beach Community College (some people like to confirm who they are meeting) I would be happy to get you in touch with the department head.

*Feel free to let anyone you know that might be interested.

My e-mail is ManteoChik@aol.com

Hi ladies,

I just called PF Chang's and made the reservation ( in my real life name) for us at 1pm this Sat. the 15th.

I tentatively booked a table for 10 because I wasn't sure how many of us are attending for sure. I told the hostess that I would call on Friday with a final count because she needs to have an idea of how big of a table they should set up ( bigger or smaller than 10 people). She told me that I have to have at least of half of my party there by 1:15pm to ensure we are not downsized to a smaller table.

Please RSVP here and I hope everyone can make it! :)

PS: If this GTG is a success, maybe we can plan another one before Christmas at a later time in the day or on a Sunday to accomodate all the ladies who can't make it this time.

Here is the address to PF. Chang's:

Mall at Millenia
4200 Conroy Road
Orlando, FL 32839
Phone:
(407) 345-2888

The mall is off I-4 on the Conroy Rd. exit. You can see the mall from I-4. Here is a link provided on the PF Chang's website to see a map of the location:
http://www.pfchangs.com/cgi-bin/mqinterconnect?label=P.F.+Changs&streetaddress=4200+Conroy+Road&city=Orlando&state=FL&zip=32839&iconid=34&style=1&icontitles=1&lat=284883&lng=-814297&level=9

Saturday is just a bad day for me... on the bright side (for those of you fortunate enough to make it) I know it may not sound like very many... but sometimes that is the BEST way to get to know other people (smaller group). I can't go either! (And I'm actually pathetic enough to drive all the way from the West coast!) I've got a meeting with our photographer, a wedding, dinner with a friend and a going away party to go to all in one weekend. :(

Ok, so far there are only 4 people coming:
1. Brandy
2. Udsweetpea
3. Maxandmolly
4. Bellaprincess ( me!)

Do you three ladies who have RSVP'd still want to meet anyways or should we cancel for now since so many people can't make it?

The GTG is canceled because so many ladies are not able to join us this Saturday.
I just called and canceled my reservation at P.F. Chang's.

Just a note to whoever is going to plan the next GTG :
*I can't meet weeknights b/c I have class
*Sundays are out for me b/c FH is off and if I visit with my family I go on Sundays.
* Saturday early afternoon or lunches work best for me

I was looking forward to meeting everyone ,but I guess this was a bad weekend!
Hopefully someone else will arrange another GTG soon and more people will be able to come. :)

Grrr. I subscribed but didn't get a notice there were new posts!

I can't make the gtg - we still live on island until december.

Jeepgirl - I love the waxing they do at ULTA (there's one in waterford lakes and one near the FL mall) they do really good and hide all the redness on eyebrows. The first brow wax i ever had with hardly any pain - I'm never going to the nail salons for a wax ever again!:D

I was sooooo excited to hear something on a Saturday night (since I work until 3pm on Saturday)..BUT it just so happends that the 12th I have a photography job for a "Ball" that I already commited to doing. Any other Saturday would work for me though. Also, I'm driving from Daytona and hardly know my way around Orlando (like only to get to the airport...lol) and so I'd need to leave pretty early so I don't get lost. :D

You know what, 5 is fine with me too. Whatever works for everyone interested. I give up, cuz my schedule seems to just keep changing!

I was gonna suggest going to see a "chick flick" after rain forest cafe, but... I just found out (or was reminded rather) that I'm supposed to be going ice skating later that night to be supportive of young adult social committee events related to a local church I attend. (Ice skating anyone? :D ) Seriously, my social life is either dry as the desert or else it pours when it starts to rain! Hmmm... Maybe I'll just skip the skating! :p

Also, how do I get there?

udsweetpea
11-08-2005, 07:58 PM
Well, to me, its not expensive. I would say you should expect to pay about $25 for yourself.

I believe the exit number is 69 off of I-4. Take a right to go towards Downtown Disney. Once you come to the Downtown Disney area, make a left where it says "Marketplace". Park around there and head towards the big volcano that says "Rainforest Cafe".

maxandmolly

maxandmolly
11-09-2005, 05:06 PM
Early!

jeepgirl
11-09-2005, 05:10 PM
Anything sooner than 5:30 doesn't really work for me. 8:30 would be okay... but some might feel that's kind of late, especially if you're driving from a distance. Are there any other interesting/reasonably priced restaurants in the area? No matter what, you all do what is best for you. If I can make it, I'm there. If I can't make it, then I can't. What do ya'll think?

Oooh... or here's a thought. You guys can just go ahead and start without me... I can be there by 5:45ish and I could just get dessert. If you started around 4:30, do you think you would be done by 5:45????

Bahama Breeze rocks! I love eating there! I personally think the food is so much better there than at the Rainforest Cafe. The West Indies patties (beef empanadas) are awesome as is the Jamaican(jerk) grilled chicken with mashed sweet potatoes and strips of toasted plantains!

What time are you all going to meet? Is it still 6? Anything after 6pm and I can't make it because I am going somewhere with E. to hear his sister sing at 8:30pm and I have to go all the way back out to my side of Orlando. After that he and I are going to the Blue Martini and I will have to go home and get ready for that.

Keep us posted ;)

Girls, I'm afraid I'm going to have to bail out of tomorrow night. I just don't have the money (or gas in the car) for it.
Have a good time, and an extra drink for me though, ok?

Bellaprincess - I think the time is 6, but there was some mention of earlier... hopefully one of the others can "chime in" here and confirm.

M&M - I am not very happy about this! I really wanted to meet you! But, I DO understand. Hope you have a cozy weekend at home. Is there a weekend that you know for sure would work for you sometime?

I'm not happy about it either! :(
As for a weekend I could do it-let's aim for a weekend after payday, not before, and we should be good. ;)

So there's four of us plus my roommate, right? Is that cool with you all if I bring her? Should I call Bahama Breeze around 5:00 for call-ahead seating?

jeepgirl

Sure... bring your roommie! And absolutely call ahead regarding seating. Anything to get us and the food closer together! ;)

What are everyone's real names, etc.??? Mine is Jess, I'm 29, I am currently a full time nursing student and work PRN at a local hospital.

Ladies, I will meet you all at 5pm, but I have a cold. I am so congested I can't breathe and my ears are congested also. I think what I might do is go and meet you all, order my food to go when I get there and when it is ready, I will leave then.
I don't want to make anyone sick because I would feel terrible. :(

PS: If you have a live journal account, let me know your name over there and I will add you as a friend so you can see my real name and see a picture of me. I am gatorchica over on LJ.

Bella- please come!!!! I really want to meet you!!! If you're so sick you can't make it, we'll understand but I personally, will not be grossed out if you cough and what not. Everyone around me has been sick the past two weeks and I still like them :)

I am coming because, well, I just need to get out of the house and have some fun. Hope everyone else can make it too

jeepgirl
11-12-2005, 11:58 AM
I agree with Brandy... If she still wants to come all the way from Sarasota, and if we're gonna do this, then BELLA by golly, you could look like Phoebe [from Friends] with the chicken pox and sound like Ed the horse, and we would NOT care! Seriously, stay for more than long enough to pick up your food, kay?

jeepgirl
11-17-2005, 06:22 PM
Later in the evening on December 3rd would work for me, or if something earlier in the day is good, possibly brunch, lunch or even a late lunch on December 4th. January would also be fine for me... as long as its not when I'm working (I'm anticipating starting a new job during my school break).

Keep in mind, Bella, it will probably be really hard to find a time that will work for EVERYONE! Its too bad, I know, but I guess just whatever time works for the most people, ya know? If its a time I can't go, but everyone else can, you should still go for it. KWIM? :)

Hi Ladies:
A Janaury GTG sounds good!

I will have to wait until I see what my school/work schedule is like and when I will have my first Organic Chem. 2 test before I commit myself to anything.

I wouldn't be able to do Sundays but like Jeepgirl said, if the majority can meet that day then I say go for it ladies! :)

Right now (this semester),Saturdays before 5pm are good for me.
I could do Saturday evenings (like to go to a club/lounge/bar such as Blue Martini or to City Walk /Pleasure Island) if no one minds if my FH tags along. ;)

If anyone still wants to meet and have lunch in December and go shopping/browsing in the mall let me know and we can have a mini GTG on a Saturday or even a Friday could work for me.

Have good night everyone!

Anyone know of formal (black-tie) New Year's parties in Tampa/St. Pete? Don CeSar is having one, but they have a 2 night minimum and the hotel and @ $600 a night I don't want SO to do that. Plus we live in South Tampa and would like to go home the day after the party.

Marriott Waterside is having nothing.

Hyatt Regency is having one, but I need more info.

Waiting for Vinoy to call me back.

Any other suggestions are appreciated!

The 13 Ugly Men usually do a big party for NYE. I think it was at Jackson's last year. All proceeds go to charity.

They haven't started promoting it on the website yet, they're not past T-giving yet.

Hello! I'm new around here and would like to introduce myself!

My name is Heather and I'm 24. I used to be on WC awhile back (WC username: io_the_moon) and just started poking around here recently. DH and I live in Altamonte Springs. I've lived in Central Florida since age 9 but I'm originally from Boston (where my heart is). DH was born and raised in the West Palm Beach area and has lived in Central Florida for the past eight years or so. DH and I both graduated from Lake Brantley High School, class of 99, and I graduated from UCF with a degree in Psychology in 2003. I currently coordinate commercial roadside assistance programs and DH is a student working on a degree in graphics. We actually can't wait to get out of the Central Florida area, but for now it is home.

Nice to meet everyone!

ruledbymercury Welcome! I can totally relate....I'm from North Carolina and only in FL (Daytona Beach) for school and my SO's job. You better believe that come next December we'll be heading back to NC. I've found FL to be a very undesirable place to live...lol. Anyway, welcome to the boards.

jeepgirl
12-18-2005, 06:35 AM
Hi RBM! I live in Altamonte Springs too... but before here, lived in Washington State for almost 5 years. I miss the Northwest - the huge, grand trees and looming mountains... takes my breath away. But, Florida is serving its purpose in my life for now, and its nice to have a beach within about an hour that actually has WARM water, instead of always having to wear a wet suit! ;)

ruledbymercury
12-19-2005, 08:27 AM
ManteoChik - I can imagine it would be tough to live in a place like Daytona Beach if one doesn't like Florida very much. It's not my favorite place in the world either. Although, I'm not a beach person, so others will likely disagree. I just find places like Orlando and Daytona to be completely devoid of the character and charm that I love and miss in New England. This area seems to be just a lot of stripmalls, apartment complexes, and parking lots! There are bright spots here and there, and it certainly isn't all terrible, but all in all, it's just not for me. I'm ready for a big change in scenery! My parents couldn't disagree more though. They love Central Florida and have vowed to never, ever leave.

jeepgirl - So interesting to find someone else in Altamonte! Thanks for the welcome!

DH is hoping to break into the gaming industry, which means we will likely end up on the west coast somewhere. That would be ok with me. I'm hoping for Seattle or San Francisco. I just love the Pacific Northwest. Seattle and San Fran both remind me of Boston. They are similar in so many ways, but still very different and unique, if that makes any sense. I could definitely see myself being happy there (scary-steep cost of living aside!).

bellaprincess
12-22-2005, 10:14 PM
I am considering the following NYE ideas
(most cost more than what I want to/probably will spend that night, but am posting them in case anyone is interested):

1) The Blue Martini at the Milenia Mall.
$40/pp general admission includes passed appetizers, champagne toast, band/DJ or $300 total for a reserved table for 6 with a bottle of booze included.
http://bluemartinilounge.com/orlupcoming.htm

2)Posh Ultralounge (the new club on Universal Blvd, I heard it is *very* nice). $25/pp admission w/ champagne toast.
http://www.poshorlando.com/

3) Tabu
$30/pp gen. admission w/ champagne toast or $50/pp for premium open bar till 1am
http://www.tabunightclub.com/tabu/events/

4) Club Paris
$60/pp 1st floor admission w/ open bar ( well drinks & cocktails).

Hey everyone!
I currently live in South Florida. My husband and I are building a house in Polk County, Babson Park.. From what I can tell its a small town. Anyone heard of it? I'm looking forward to moving there, it seems like a slower pace of life, and we can't wait! We live in a condo/duplex, and we have a road that is behind us that is getting busy. So cars are very loud, and its getting old.. Everytime we visit our property we get more excited thinking about the calmness of the area. There are cows behind our fence. I'd rather hear mooing all night, than the loud booming cars.. Anyways.... Just thought I'd stop in and say hi.
Lauren

maxandmolly
02-27-2006, 07:41 PM
You mean there are people who move to Babson Park on purpose?
Um.
I think calling it a small town is uh....generous. I don't think it even has a grocery store. Pretty sure it has a gas station, though. Get used to the cows. Lots of cows. And orange groves. Lots of orange groves.
I've been stuck in Polk County for more than 4 years now.

LSirola
02-28-2006, 06:15 PM
Where in Polk County do you live?
We have driven through Babson Park, and it seems like a very slow-paced area. We have a nice little piece of land, with groves across the street and cows in the back. We won't have neighbors on the other side our wall like we do now. So we are thrilled. There is a gas station, and its down the street from where we are building. I also pass by this fire station, but the lights are never on, so I wonder if its even operating. There is an elementary school close by too, and the college, not sure of the college name

Not sure what I'll do for work out there. I've been a pharmacy tech for the past 6 years, and I'm in school to be a kindergarten teacher.

So anyways, whats got you stuck in Polk?
Lauren

Tampa Bay area ladies!!

I found a forum for people who live in the Bay Area. It's tampaforums.com. It's a little different from CC. You make your own profile, similar to myspace where you have "friends", a wall for them to comment on and groups you can join. But still with the same forum - thread idea. It's men and women of all ages. Mostly ranging from early 20s to mid 30s. It's a little more riske than CC (ok, a lot more) but fun none the less. People post about stuff going on in the area as well and they have GTG all the time but they call it Shenanigans, lol. I have the same name on there, Nikker. Hope to see some of you on there. Send me a friend request or PM to let me know your from CC.
