I finally caved in and bought white capris. I even have the nude underwear that I've heard many of the ladies here say are necessary when wearing the white. However, when I bend over, I can see my panties through my pants! And I am a bit nervous that if people will be able to see through my pants even when I am walking or standing. Is that normal or do I need another pair of capris? Help!

I've noticed that certain white pants are much thinner and you can still see undies...even if they are nude. Do they have any type of lining? I had a pair of cotton ones from Limited that I returned before wearing because they were totally see through.
Also, are your nude undies too dark? I know I have a nude bra but I am pretty pale. You can still see it (faintly) through white shirts.

I have not found white pants in a looooong time that are made well enough to NOT show underwear. Everything is so cheap and thin these days. I'm thinking a thong or going commando might be your only options.

Commando is the way to go.

How about a pants liner, cut to fit? I'm still searching for one, but I think it's a good idea. Right now, for my white pants for work, I wear a spanx like thing - it's nude all the way down, so it's no-show underneath. I have casual white pants too, and I wear a nude trunk, but the pants are fuller cut so I don't have to worry.

Not sure if you have a pair of "dressy" capris, but for a casual pair, JCrew has a pair and I have them in white and they aren't see-through. But I will admit they are a little heavier weight. Here's a link. good luck!

I adore white capris but I usually buy mine in white denim--you can wear virtually any kind of underwear because the denim is thick enough to hide lines.

Thonging it obligatory if you won't go commando.
I wear a nude thong and that seems to work OK although not every pair of capris are made the same. I'm actually wearing a pair today from Old Navy that are cotton.
Commando seems like a worse idea for a thin pair of white capris than a nude thong to me but maybe that's just me.

It'd have to be commando with a full Brazilian wax.

Thanks Ladies! I am bringing them back and getting a pair of lined ones I tried on at Ann Taylor last night. I can't bring myself to get the full Brazilian and the whole commando thing just skeeves me out.
Commando is the way to go.
uh, commando would be a very bad idea for those women who go au natural. i just got my first pair of white pants and i just wear tunic type tops over them, so they cover most of the underwear area.

I am very pale, and nude undies don't look nude on me. Instead, I wear light, light pink or off-white (ivory). Works much better on me.

I've been keeping the same pair of white linen pants on life support for the past five years now. The are Ann Taylor Loft, don't show undies (well, nude, of course), and they are neither too tight nor too loose.
But every time I try to go shopping to "replace" them, it isn't just the undies that are a problem, its the pants own pockets!!! Why why why do designers do this?!?! And those little half-liners, where you can see the curve AND the pockets through the hips...
Argh!

Yeah, Cricket - in a fashion magazine I used to get, they suggested to either cut the pants pockets out completely, and have your tailor stitch them up at the seams (easy with slit pockets), or to replace the pockets with a nude pocket instead of white.
They don't make it easy, that's for sure.

I sew the pockets shut and then cut out the lining in all white and off white pants, except for chino style white pants. I just can't stand the look of the pocket lining, especially in the front!

Yes, at a very expensive Saville Row tailor in London, teh pockets were tsk tsked and promptly removed froma Paul smith suit and I learned two very important lessons that day:
Pockets in the thigh area are a bad idea on any woman heavier than the olsen twwns, especially with leaner cut trousers. Remove them promptly.
And not related to thsi thread at all but spending more ona a really great suit than you did on your wedding dress sometimes does make sense.
As far as white capris/trousers. I have two pairs. The first is sort of a pique material and the other are seersucker. Since both have a texture to the material they don't seem to show panty lines as much as a flat weave would. I honestly cannot bring myself to waer a thong, go commando or have a brazillian. Happy for thos eof yu who do, but it is just not me.

If you wear panties make sure it is a seamless white thong!!!

I saw white capris last night being worn with polka-dot panties underneath. Not a pretty sight!

I disagree. I saw a woman in white pants a couple weeks ago and her white thong was shining right through. I think whatever color is closest to your own skin tone would probably be best.

I'm with Wendalah - I try to buy mine in denim, or not at all. Everything is so cheaply made these days - most pairs are completely see-through. :(

I bought some lined white capris at Ann Taylor over the weekend. When I tried them on, I was wearing black panties and you couldn't see them through the slacks. They are comfortable and a great length.

Not sure if anyone's still looking, but I was in Banana Republic today and they had a ton of white capris/pants/skirts, all on sale. I scored a pair of full length Martin fit pants, fully lined, for $34--regular price is $88! :D
FWIW, my local store had a much better selection of sizes than the website.

PSA - if you have a tattoo on your backside, be careful with white capris unless you want people to know you have a tattoo on your backside. ;)
