DS's birthday was on Friday. We're having his party this coming Sunday at our house, so that will be fun. I'm getting sort of stressed about it, but it should be a good time. I can't wait to see how DS reacts to cake, lol.

Here's a picture of DS when he was just a few hours old:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/emilyvonrueden/109_0982.jpg

And one taken last week:
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/emilyvonrueden/IMG_0587.jpg

I cannot believe we have toddlers!!!

DS had his 12-month WBV today.
Weight: 24lbs, 10oz
Height: 31 1/4 inches

Apparently he has an astigmatism in one eye, so we have been referred to a pediatric opthamologist for further evaluation. Does anyone know about this? The ped didn't give me much information - whenever I asked a question, he said I should ask the opthamologist. WTH...

QOTD: How often do you read to your DC? Everytime I try to read to DD she has a fit and wants to close the book or turn the pages in the book before I can read the page. Does your DC like to be read to?

Pink_Converse
05-31-2007, 10:19 AM
My DS likes books, but he won't usually let me read more than a page of two. He likes to touch the books, turn pages, chew on it, etc. The touch and feel type books are the ones he really likes. Those will sometimes hold his attention because they are interactive. We probably sit down and try to read a couple of times every other day. Not enough probably. I must be doing something right though because if he finds a book on the floor he opens it and "reads" it out loud!

DS was watching Sesame St. this morning and he heard Ernie laugh and then he laughed like him. It was sooo cute.

Question: My son fusses at dogs, people, the tv, etc. He points his finger and gets onto them verbally. He has seen me do it to the dog when the dog barks and scares him. I did it to be funny and make DS stop crying and he started immitating me. Now he does it in front of people and they laugh and encourage it. It is funny and cute but at the same time I think it looks bad. Like he thinks it's okay to "yell" at everyone, or like people will think I do it to him. Any idea how to make it stop other than to just ignore it and hope he forgets about it?

No other DC (yet)

Reading - DD loves being read to and reading on her own. She does try to turn the pages much faster than I can read and I often don't finish books. From what I heard, any exposure is good, whether it is reading books, chewing on them, or whatever. I used to have to give DD a book to hold and chew on while I read her another one. It seemed to help w/ her grabbing and eating the one I was trying to read.

Pink_Converse - Yeah for some weight gain!

QOTD: What is your DC's sleep schedule?

Before we moved DD would sleep from 7:30pm to 6:30am and then nap at 9am and 2pm (both naps around 90 minutes).

After we moved DD has been sleeping from 8:30pm to 7-7:30am and then nap around 10ish and 2ish.

Anyone down to one nap a day?

shortcake
06-01-2007, 09:35 AM
MMH - We go between one and two naps depending on the day. Lately he's been waking up BEFORE 6 am which I could do without! Interesting that her sleep schedule shifted when you moved.

MMHinCA
06-01-2007, 09:39 AM
shortcake - We actually had pushed back her bedtime. It allows my DH to spend time with her in the evenings plus with the days staying lighter later it just has been working for us.

Parrothead
06-01-2007, 10:52 AM
Sleep - DD goes to bed between 7:30 and 8 and wakes around 6:30. She naps at 9am and 2pm. Usually her morning nap is 2 hours. I don't let her sleep past 11am or maybe 11:15am. Her afternoon nap usually begins right around 2pm or about 3 hours after she wakes up from her morning nap. That nap is about 1.5-2 hours. I wake her by 4 or 4:30 if she's not up already. Seems we are very far from moving to 1 nap!

Em7.31.04

DS's sleep schedule varies depending on if he goes to his nanny's house or if he is home with me.

Nanny Day:
Sleeps 7:30pm-6:15am (we wake him up)
Naps 9:30am-1pm, 4-5pm

Mom Day:
Sleeps 7:30pm-8am (wakes up on his own)
Naps 11am-1pm, 4:30-5:30pm

There have been a few days when he naps just once (like today, little bugger!), but we aren't anywhere close to doing that official transition. I need him to take two naps!! :p

mrst2001

Hey, ladies!

Books: I usually read to her about two books a day (generally both bedtime). B likes to "read" and play with her books a various other times of the day, and I might put one in the stroller or car to entertain her if we have errands to do. She definitely has preferences for certain books, too! But I will say that part of what she loves is the "act" of reading (like pretending to turn the pages and read, point at pages, mimic me) most often.

Sleep: DD usually sleeps from about 7 or 7:30 pm to 7:30 to 8:30 am. Her first nap is usually about two to three hours after waking, for about 2 hours (as shorts as 1.25 hours, or as long as 2.5 sometimes). Her second nap begins about three hours after waking from her morning nap, for about the same amount of time. We certainly have days when Brooks only has one nap, either b/c we are out or b/c she refuses (!), but she really needs to have two still. And, hell, I need her to have two!

Pointing/Fussing/Yelling (Pink_Converse): DD does this sometimes, too, and it is hard not to laugh, since it can be so funny! I find it best to just ignore her, though, and not "reward" the behavior when she does it and she will stop. I figure it will pass!

Had the biopsy yesterday--was a little scary and more extensive than I thought it would be, for some reason. Took 10 "core" tissue samples and put in a little stainless steel marker that will remain in place. Feel sore and bruised, a little scared. Will get the results back on Tuesday. Got in a huge fight with DH last night b/c he was being a typical man and not being "caring" enough. I wanted to talk and neede comfort, and he was trying to "fix" things and do stuff around the house when I just wanted him to be loving. Why do they need to "fix" all problems!!! Grumble. Today, in the aftermath, he was very solicitious and caring. Talk about speaking different love languages!

Have a great weekend, y'all!

Wow Toddler section!

naps
David usually wakes up between 8- 9am, then goes down for a nap at 10-11/11:30. Afternoon nap is normally from 12:30- 2. Today he got an extra nap in from 4-5:30, then was in bed by 8pm.

mrst2001 Hope all turns out well and in the clear!

walking David still isnt walking on his own yet. Today he was walking with assistance from his Fisher Price toy. So weird seeing him walk with it without me close by to catch him falling.

mimicking/ pointing/ect
Caugh David mimicking his daddy's farts with his mouth and giggling. Nothing gets by him ;) He loves to point and 'oot' for things that we are eating.

readingHe loves playing with the books and turning pages, but his attention level to sit and listen to me read to him isnt there. On the other hand he loves when I sing to him and now requests Ba Ba (Ba Ba black sheep)half way through ABC's

Potty Training Things are going really well. Only 1 poopy diaper all week! This morning he woke up and his diaper was not even a little bit wet! Still I think I may wait til he does walk to start him in big boy underwear.

Hope everyone has great weekend!:D

Books: We read to her as part of her sleeping routine, so it's at least 3 times a day. We've been doing it since she was a few months old, so she really is used to it and likes it. She will even sit through fairly long books, like Curious George. Her favorites right now are The 3 Little Pigs and The 3 Billy Goats Gruff. (Because she's way into animals and also likes the voices. Especially DH's voices!) We also often read to her when she's sitting on her potty chair. :)

Sleep, we have an unusual schedule, because she likes to sleep in more than most babies. She wakes up at 8:30 or 9am, takes a nap around 10:30-12:30, and then takes a second nap around 3-4pm. She goes to bed at about 8:30. I've considered 1 nap a day, and sometimes we get by on that, but I've read in a lot of places that most children still need both naps until about 18mos. And I know she lasts better through the evening when she has 2 naps, so she must still need them.

Mrs U, wow, that's great that you are having so much potty-training success--maybe I missed it in the other thread, but how are you going about it? We've been putting DD on her little potty chair whenever she wakes up because she is pretty consistent about needing it then. I'm just trying to put her on it to get her used to the idea--and then she sits there we sing or read a book to help her relax. I don't think she's really connected what's going on yet even though we always make a big deal about it when she pees in the potty.

MrsT, good luck on the biopsy results. Sorry you had to go through that! This is a late reply from the other thread, but my DD is a little peanut, too. At her 12mo WBV, she was 18lb 4oz and 27.5 inches. People comment all the time. They act shocked when I say she's a year old and so I always have to add "but she's small for her age."

Mrst2001 - Sending positive vibes your way!

QOTD: Is anyone still using a sleep sack? If not, what are you doing? - I still use a sleep sack for DD. Does anyone else? I would like to move her out of it and to using a blanket to cover up. Any suggestions on this?

Mrs U
06-04-2007, 10:51 PM
Scooter
Personally as a SAHM I have the time to enforce going to the bathroom during the day and keeping it consistant. We've been putting him on the potty several times a day- as soon as he wakes up in the morning, just after breakfast, just before naps, after naps, ect and it's been working like a charm! I use 2-3 diapers a day now (and they are barely wet) I find it best when I leave him alone in the bathroom and make my bed or his so he can do his business.
Praise is the key when he does something- we do yeahs and hand clapping and big hugs ;) When he doesnt I just tell him maybe next time you'll need to do something.
I think with the next one I'll start as soon as he or she can sit up unassisted.

Sleep Sac
Never used one. DS sleeps on top of a duvet instead of under it. I think he gets too warm when we do put a blanket on him because it doesnt stay on him too long.

Em7.31.04
06-04-2007, 11:20 PM
We still use a sleep sack...I imagine we'll be using them for awhile still. DS flips around constantly in his sleep, from end to end, so I don't think he's ready for a blanket. Halo makes toddler-sized sleep sacks, from what I understand. I bet we will be buying one soon, lol.

MMHinCA
06-05-2007, 08:40 AM
Sleep sac - We do not use one anymore. I just put DD in feet pajamas (light weight ones now that it is warmer). She has a blanket in bed with her but she usually cuddles with it rather then using in to cover her.

Fun news... DH and I put a deposit down on a new house! :D It should be finished in July so we will probably be moving in around August! I am so excited to finally be a home owner!

Bedtime/wake up: try around 7:30-9pm.. (depends on if we are doing anything) and wakes up usually around 7am sometime. We usually leave him in his crib until 8am.

Naps: am with daddy at around 10am from either 1-2 hours. And pm naps at around 3:30pm at daycare from about 1.5-2 hours.

Reading: our little one doesn't really like listening to books when i try readying but at least he isn't screaming anymore. the only book hel'll listen to is the good night room.

Well, I'm happy to report that DS is no longer taking formula - he's 100% on whole milk now. He seems to be taking to sippy cups full-time, so we may be done with bottles too? We'll see... :p

For those of you with walkers...How soon after DC started standing alone and walking with a push toy, did he/she walk alone? DS stood unassisted and walked using his push toy this weekend, so I'm wondering how much longer it will be until all he** breaks loose.

I finished installing kitchen & bathroom cabinet locks today. What a pain!!

Congrats, Mrst2001! Great news!

Em - Hard to say about the time from standing/walking with pushtoys to walking unassisted. DD stood on her own at 10 months and used walking toys from about 9 months up until she took her 1st steps on her own just before her 1st bday. I think that the older they are when they stand on their own and use walking toys, the sooner after they walk. So, I would think that you may only have a few weeks of peace, not months!

How is Mary doing these days?!
She isn't quite walking yet, but almost there. I think she just knows she can get to something faster by crawling still. I think she'll be walking by the end of June.

Bedtime/wake up: In bed by 8PM, up about 7AM,

Naps: takes a 2-3 hour nap at school (daycare) at noon.

Reading: We don't read to her every niight but at least every three days. She does however look at the pictures and carry books around when we play in the evenings. I know they read to hear at daycare too.

sleepdsack: never used one, but I do put Mary in footed pajamas. We have a few pairs of pj's without feet too and I think she prefers those sometimes. She sweats in her sleep. That said I was wondering if I should just let her sleep in a onsie and use a receiving blanket just so she doesn't get cold. She does sleep with a fleece blanket at daycare but they sleep on cots. She is all over the place in her crib so I don't think a blanket would stay on her now anyway.

We're home today because Mary is sick again. She just keeps catching the virus of the week. We've been in 3 times since her 12 month WBV. Luckily she seems to get over them quickly but still. She's better now, so I hope that stays true so I can go back to work tomorrow. I have so much to do!

I better go back to page one and catch up with how everyone is doing now.

We must be busy with our little toddlers... no posts for a few days!

DD Updates:

- She has taken up to 4 steps! She is very proud of herself.
- She talks / babbles up a storm... all day... nonstop!
- She loves TV... we watch a couple shows on Disney in the morning while I am getting things organized and she loves them. She dances to music, talks back to the characters and loves all the colors. Since I work at home she does watch a few DVD's through out the day (Baby Einstein, Sesame Street).
- She is a little monkey... she climbs on everything! She definately keeps me on my toes!
- She still will not eat vegetables... NONE! I hope this changes soon!

We should be closing on our new house in July and hopefully be moving in in August! I can't wait!

Mr. Man decided to stand ON HIS OWN twice last night at our friend's son's b-day party. He was holding onto a play kitchen and them he picks a toy banana up in one hand and a tea cup in the other and stands up and starts playing! Totally steady and totally oblivious. I felt like a saw a ghost! It was so weird to see. A friend was there as my witness and I went to get H's daddy and he was already on the way in so I helped H and he stood a second time but for less time and less steady. Could walking be soon?!!!!

She isn't quite walking yet, she walks along all the furniture and if she wants to get to something that the furniture doesnt get her too, she ploops down and crawls. she hasnt tried to let go yet, and has maybe 2-3 times stood alone for short times.

Bedtime/wake up: In bed by 7:30-8PM, up about 7-7:30AM (i actually think shes awake earlier but just layes there making no noise

Naps: takes a morning nap at 10-10:30am maybe an hour long, and afternoon nap at 3pm sometimes 1.5-2 hrs long.

Reading: we have a ton of books for her, we try to read them, but she'd rather flip thru them so you dont have time to read the page! hehe. she likes the books that have animals in them, she oohs and aahhhs them and gets all excited. its so cute.

sleepdsack: i have no idea what that is. sorry. hehe.

Talking: she says momma, dada, pop-pop, ba-ba, sssss and ffff sounds, Oohh, sometimes i think she says Hi. she waves bye, gives high 5's, just started opening her mouth for kisses, knows where your nose and mouth are but wont point to hers, points to yours. dances like no ones business (rythem like her daddy, the poor girl) claps, does so big. she points to everything now and goes "oohhh" its so funny when she does it when food get put in front of her, like she is starving! hehe.

she also has learned to ploop down and scream/cry. she is very attached to me, always wants me. if i am not around she is fine with someone else, but the minute i come into the room, she has to be by me or in my arms. how do i break the tantrum thing. she sometimes plays herself, but then sometimes she has to be by me and wont play with anything.

Subscribing. I don't post a lot in here, but I do try and follow along.

DD: Annabelle
May 5th
me: petdoc08
me: Rebecca, 26
DH: Brandon, 26
DC#2 Due in Feb 08 :)

Bella is such a sweet heart! She loves to pet the kitties and says Nice Kitty while petting them. She took her first steps two weeks ago and is up to 5 or so steps at a time. She is a very cautious little girl. She only takes steps when she knows she won't fall.

Bed time/Wake Up: She has been going down at around 8 or so. She won't let me put her down, so DH has to do it. She just wants to nurse when I'm trying to get her to sleep and she hasn't fallen asleep nursing in MONTHS! She wakes up at around 8 for the day. She is still waking once or twice a night. We cosleep so I think it is because she knows her midnight buffet is open for business.

Naps: These are a struggle. The kid hates to nap. She has bounced between one and two naps for a month or so now and has no predictable schedule. I have given up trying to fight her, so I just go with the flow.

Reading: Books are probably her favorite things ever. She will flip through books all day long if I would let her. DH and I both try to read at least 2 books a day to her outside of the bedtime routine.

Sleepsack: When it got warmer we just put her in a onsie. For a while we gave her the sleepsack to cuddle like a blankie. She did fine with the transition.

Talking: Mama, dada, kitty, meow, woof, Hi, Bye, night night. I am sure there are more than I can't understand. She says Ffffff alot when eating. Maybe she is trying to say food??

kmfroggi: I hear you about the tantrum thing! DD has started to stick her lower lip out in a huge pout and whine to get her way. We are trying to nip it in the but, but her pouty face is too cute to resist.

Today is my first day of not breastfeeding! Since her 1st birthday we had cut nap BFings and have only been doing BFings first thing in the morning when she woke up and then at night when she went to bed. For naps we had gone to bottles of whole milk. Then last week we cut the night feedings and DH started giving her a bottle of whole milk before bed. Well this morning I made the decision to cut the morning BFings. It was a very sad decision but i think we are both ready! We will continue the bottles at naps and at night for another month or so and then work on cutting those. She takes sippy cups of milk and water throughout the day and at meals so I know eventually she will be fine with loosing the bottles at bedtimes.

Other fun news...
She has taken up to 4 steps.
She can stand from a sitting position on her own.
She can stand for a good amount of time.

I think we are VERY close to becoming a walker!

She is still a pretty picky eater... I need to work on this with her. Still not eating vegetables. Very picky on fruits... I can get bananas and pureed fruits in her but other fruits she will chew / suck on them and then spit them out. Here are some the foods she will eat:

-pancakes (I make sure to get the whole wheat ones so they are little bit healthier)
-bananas
-oatmeal (I but the vanilla Kashi oatmeal)
-grilled cheese
-turkey & cheese sandwiches
-mac n' cheese (Annie's organic)
-pasta w/ tomato sauce
-yogurt (organic Yo Baby)
-applesauce (all natural, no sugar added)

She LOVES milk!

Anyone have any other healthy food suggestions I can try with her?

MMHinCA -

Just a thought for fruits. . . we just bought fruit leather (the healthy kind in the organic section) and Elliot loves to munch on those. He holds the whole thing and takes off bites. Also he loves dried cranberries and the toddler dried fruit (apples). Not sure if your DD will take those, but there are some ideas for fruits.

Vegetables are hard, although you could mixed cooked spinach into alot of things like tomatoe sauce, put a little in mac n cheese or grilled cheese. Elliot also loves the graduate ravioli which has chicken and carrots, cheese and spinach, beef and tomato, and turkey and something. I think they smell horrible but he loves them. Ravioli in general are a big hit even if you do the adult kind with stuff in it.

Update-
Hope everyone is doing well. I read long but never post. We are in the 4-5step stage, but really mom crawling is so much quicker . . .We are moving in the next couple weeks to a new state and new jobs. Should be an interesting month but a good move for the long run.

Back to reading along :o

And an update on us:

Bed time/Wake Up: DS goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:30 every night and can be counted on to sleep for pretty much exactly 12 hours. He has also recently started cuddling with a stuffed octopus when he's going to sleep, and I think it's adorable.

Naps: We have to go with the flow here. Some days DS takes one nap, some days he takes three. It depends entirely on his mood. He also is very good about telling us he's tired - he'll just go lay down in the middle of the floor when he gets tired.

Reading: He loves to "read" books but he'll rarely let us read one to him. Mostly I just try to point out things quickly as he flips pages. He probably spends at least an hour a day flipping through his books.

Sleepsack: We've never used a sleepsack. DS slept in onesies and a swaddling blanket when he was first born and is now sleeping in footed pajamas.

Talking: mama, dada, baba (milk), dah (dog), maah (more), and probably some others that I haven't figured out yet.

Food: Will eat pretty much anything we give him EXCEPT fruit. He will not eat fruit in any form (aside from applesauce). I've tried apples, bananas, pears, plums, kiwi, grapes, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, and cherries. He won't take any of it. His favorite foods are waffles, green beans, and peas. Weird kid.

Walking: He is a steady walker now. It's so nice, especially with me being so big and pregnant. Now I just need him to learn how to go down the stairs so that I don't have to carry two kids down at once.

Our update:

Bed time/Wake Up: Still down at 7, up between 6:15 and 6:45 am

Naps: Most days just one 3 hour nap, some days a shorter am nap (usually if she poops in her sleep she wakes up) then an afternoon nap. Some days a shorter am nap and nada in the afternoon.

Reading: Will sometimes let us read to her, sometimes not. Likes to look at her books.

Sleepsack: Some nights we use light footed jammies and a cotton sleepsack, some nights just footed jammies. Really just depends on how cool it is and what I feel like doing.

Talking: Her latest thing is "uh-oh" She loves to drop things just so she can say it. She probably said it 200 times today. Also, mama, daddy, "day-dee" (the dog), doggy, ba "bird", duck, buh-bye (by by), hi.

Food: She eats most things when she feels like it. The worst thing I can do is go to a special effort for her because then she refuses. She eats a lot of deli turkey, yogurt, blueberries, {bread product} with cream cheese (breakfast)

Walking: So close, but nothing yet. I spend a lot of time hunched over with her holding onto my fingers. My back aches!!

Our update:

Bed time/Wake Up: Still down at 7-8, up between 7 and 8:45 am

Naps: 1 morning and 1 afternoon.

Reading: He loves flipping through books or magazines, but not patient enought to sit while mommy reads.

Sleepsack: footless pjs now for summer. Never used a sleepsack.

Talking: Like Bloomwood's daughter, David's latest thing is "uh-oh" Also, mama, da da, danke, baba (for Ba Ba black sheep), ente (duck), ciao ciao (by by), hoi (hello) Ike for spike.

Food: No complaints here. He eats everything and anything.

Walking: So close, but nothing yet. Caught him standing without holding onto anything yesterday for a good 5 seconds. One of these day..

Potty training: Waiting till he walks to step it up a notch. There have been a few 6 am wake ups just so he can go to the potty (and diaper dry from the whole night long)

US: We are moving again! We found a room bigger apartment with less eastern block foreigners for the same price we are paying now! I'm thrilled but I hate packing/unpacking.

Update on Lila:

Bed time/Wake Up: Down at 8-8:30, up between 8 and 8:30

Naps: sometimes 1 morning, 1 afternoon. sometimes one long nap smack dab in the middle of the day. It depends on our schedule.

Reading: She likes when I read to her but often tries to rip the book out of my hands.

Sleepsack: Eh. Sometimes. I put her in whatever is clean-footies, a onesie and a sleepsack, a onesie and leggings. Whatever happens to be available. I do give her a lightweight blanket though.

Talking: Uh-oh, hi, mama, dada, up, sit, duck, goose, pa (grandpa), cat, "oof" (woof, aka dog)

Food: She pretty much eats anything as long as it's table food. She isn't a fan of babyfood anymore, although I do try to shovel it in if we're out and about and I don't have time to sit down at a table with her and feed her an actual "meal".

Walking: Walking, running, climbing. She keeps me busy. ;)

Bed time/Wake Up: Down at 9:30 pm -- up at 5:00 am to eat and back to sleep usually until 7:30 am

Naps: usually 1 morning and 1 afternoon

Reading: He chooses either Are You My Mother or Where the Wild Things Are -- One Fish Two Fish was an option as well -- before.

Sleepsack: Don't know what a sleepsack is -- Gabriel sleeps in a tee-shirt or pajamas.

Talking: A few words (uh-oh, ba for bus/book/boy, da-da for me/daddy/sister, nuh-nuh for no way)

Food: Gabriel loves food... He had two dinners two nights ago because he was still hungry.

Walking: He's been walking for 3.5 months now... And he is into everything.

Potty training: I don't think it is a good idea until he is physiologically ready.

US: If you want details, I have been trying to update my blog/website (see siggy below) --but in general my husband and I have both been swamped at work, my daughter finished 7th grade, we're planning our summer family trip, we went to Florida to visit my dad, Gabriel had a horrible ear infection and is getting his molars in, etc.

Bed time/Wake Up/Naps: H wakes around 7:30 or 8 am and goes backs down for his morning nap at 10 or 10:30 am. He has an afternoon nap around 3:30 or 4 pm and is down for night between 8 and 9 pm.

Reading: He pretends to read and likes books but only lets me read him a whole book sometimes. If I catch him in the right mood I can read him 3 or 4 books.

Talking: He mainly says "no" and "uh-oh" and "oh yuck" right now... pleasant child that he is ;)

Walking: I think we are getting a little closer. He stood on his own once and he creeps around furniture.

Bed time/Wake Up: Down between 7:30 and 8, up between 6:30 and 7.

Naps:T wo/day. One around 9 or 9:30. It lasts until about 11am, when I wake her up! She would sleep for a LONG time in the AM if she could, but then she doesn't sleep in the afternoon. So, I wake her after 1.5-2 hours. She naps again in the afternoon around 2 or 2:30 until about 4 (again, I often have to wake her or she doesn't sleep at night).

Reading: Loves to look at books on her own and have them read to her. She'll bring them to you and say "uh" so you'll read.

Sleepsack: Only at night now. She wears footy pj's at night and whatever she's wearing during the day for naps.

Talking: Dada, dog, duck, mama. She also says "buh" for balloon, baby, and blueberries. Will say "uh-huh" as an affirmative response to questions.

Food: She's getting a bit picky these days, but the foods I can count on are sauteed squash, cheese, meatballs, ravioli/tortellini, yogurt, cottage cheese, and fruit.

Walking: She's been a steady walker for a month and half or so and is now running and dancing. It's a crack up.

Other stuff: We just finished music class last week and swim lessons yesterday. We are starting MyGym this Friday and I can't wait. She's going to love it. We also signed up for the Mommy & Me class that begins in Sept. at the place where I am pretty sure DD will attend pre-school. It's such a racket around her -- you need to get your DC in the Mommy & Me to give you "priority" for the preschool you want them to attend. It's a stupid game, but you have to play!

smiles33
07-02-2007, 01:02 PM
Bed time/Wake Up: Down between 7:30 and 8, up between 5 and 6:30.

Naps: Two/day (about an hour each) when she's at home with us: one around 10 and one around 2:30 in the afternoon. At daycare (she's there 3 days/week), it's often only 1 long nap at 12 but then she sleeps in the car on the way home another hour.

Reading: Loves to turn the pages of her books and sometimes turns them so fast I can't even read them. Her favorites are "Ten Little Ladybugs," "My Dad" (a book from the UK DH's aunt bought for us), and "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."

Sleepsack: Nope. We stopped using one when it started warming up. She wears footless pj's at night and whatever she's wearing during the day for naps.

Talking: Dada, mama, uh-oh and some random babbling.

Food: She apparently loves to eat, and everyone keeps commenting on how much she eats--daycare teachers, my parents, DH's parents, etc. We offer her a wide variety of food but her favorites are sweet potatoes, whole grain pasta, udon, rice, peas, corn, green beans, chicken, pork, tofu, bean curd, avocado, apples, bananas, blueberries, yogurt, and cheese.

Walking: Still just cruising. She has taken 1-2 steps here and there but immediately falls down.

No swim or music classes, since I WOHM 40+ hours/week and am too exhausted on the weekends. DH works 36+ hours/week and watches her on Monday, but he won't take her to classes. I feel badly about not getting her into those classes, but we just don't have the energy.

New QOTD: How many pairs of shoes and what kinds do you have for your DC?

Since she's not walking yet, we still have her in Robeez or even barefoot (now that daycare does water play). I did just order a pair of See Kai Run Qwynn shoes from Zappos that I can't wait to have her wear. They're black leather Mary Jane style shoes with a cute red flower. But given how fast toddlers' feet grow, I'm not going to buy more than 1 pair of nice shoes until she can wear them for more than a few months at a time.

karlatta
07-02-2007, 02:17 PM
Shoes: DS rarely wears shoes and never has them on in the house. He has two pairs of Robeez that he wears when we go out and either he won't be walking or he'll be walking on even surfaces. He also has a pair of sneakers that he wears when we need a really sturdy shoe - like when we go to the playground or to play at a park.

nettreefrog
07-03-2007, 08:19 AM
Shoes - Gabriel has two pairs of sandels -- one with a strong back (from Umi) and the other is a pair of water ones (from Stride Rite). He wears a 5W. We had a pair of Robeez -- but he walks on the sidewalk so we had to change. I agree with Karlatta that sturdy shoes are important.

Update on us:

Abbie is fully walking. She took her first "REAL REAL" steps the night of her birthday, then a few for a couple days after. She hasn't crawled in about a month.
Talking:like crazy. Dada, Mama, Doggie, Bird, no, night night, and others. Today, before her nap, she said, "Mama, night night'. It was adorable.

She is doing really well. She takes 2 naps a day (morning and afternoon), and goes to bed at 8:30 and sleeps till about 8. She's so happy. But, she will yell when she wants something, and that just IS NOT pretty.

Her new thing is dancing. It's so funny. She bounces up and down and walks in circles. If we are in the car, and a fun song comes on, she'll bob her head.

Ok, im back for good! Congrats to all the mommies that got BFP's lately!

Wow! It's been forever since I've posted. I didn't even realize that a new thread was started. Here is an update on us.

Bed time/Wake Up: She goes down at 9:30 pm usually. She'll sleep until 10 a.m. if we let her, but we usually have to get her up at 7 (8 in the summer)

Naps: usually 1 in the afternoon, but today she's not showing any signs of wanting/needing a nap

Reading: She'll listen when I read ho her older sister

Sleepsack: Don't use one

Talking: A few words (doggy, kitty, bye-bye, hi, what)

Food: Rach loves to eat...always looking for something more, but she's picky at the same time

Walking: She's been taking steps here and there since she was 10 months old. She's been walking full-time since about her birthday

Potty training: I'm not going to train her until she shows signs of being ready

Other stuff: We went to visit my stepmom at Cape Cod a couple of weeks ago. Both girls seemed to enjoy it. We're going to visit my stepmom in Florida next week. We're surprising our oldest (bc I don't think Rach will care either way) with one day at Disney. I'm excited about it because we'll be there on our fifth wedding anniversary, and that's where we went our honeymoon. I'm off for the summer, DD1 is going to camp for three hours in the morning which leaves Rach and I some mommy/daughter time. That's about all from here!

Yes! I have no idea what the deal is! And it's driving me crazy. I know that he is cutting his molars, and I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Fortunately, he's still drinking milk like a champ, so I think we're okay. But we just went to the doctor this morning and he hasn't gained any weight in the past month. :(

I don't know what is up with H. He used to love meat and veggies and now all he will eat is junk, certain pastas, spaghetti, cereal, cheese sometimes, cereal bars, bread products, pancakes and bananas. That's it. No other fruits ever and rarely any meat or veggies. I feel like he's starving even though I know he is not. I feel like he's not getting any nutrition either. Very worrying since he's so small anyway.

DD will sometime seem to eat a lot, and other times just a little. There are a few things I know she will always eat, like yogurt, cottage cheese, pretty much anything dairy. Oh and Ritz crackers, loves those! Last week I gave her a fresh fruit salad and she was eating so much of it I was worried what the next day's diapers would look like! She loves strawberries and watermelon the most.

Abbie will definately eat yogart, cheddar cheese, and whole wheat penne. Grapes and peas as well. Sometimes I can trick her with other things, but she's not a fan of red meat at all. She'll sometimes entertain us with chicken. She does love Fish...but we rarely have that at home. I've resorted to making her fruit smoothies for afternoon snack (Soy Milk, whole milk organic yogart, frozen berries, and orange juice), and she loves that.

My bf does this with her daughter. Her daughter was always a little chunky monkey (Born at 10lbs), and once she really started to walk everything seemed to slow down. She's tiny now, about 1 pound heavier then DD (They are 7 months apart). She just grazes throughout the day. Sleep questions....

Is anyone's DC on 1 nap/day? How was the transition? Did you do anything to help them transition?

DD seems to be moving in that direction, but I can't quite get things right. So now she is waking at 6am (vs. regular 6:30/7), throwing tantrums when I try to rock her at naptime (even though she is clearly tired), wanting to sleep forever on her AM nap, and yelling and screaming about her PM nap. I have been trying to push the start time of her AM nap later and also shorten it by waking her after 1hr 15min or so, but she's just so messed up right now!

lolly: So sorry for your loss. ((hugs))

DH and I are both on summer break, so we are go-go all the time together as a family. It's nice to all be together, and the summer is already going soooo fast. We just returned from a two-week vacation in California. We drove 13+ hours each way, and DS was such a champ. We drove overnight one way, and DS slept most of the way. Coming home we left at 4am and he still slept for about half the drive. Such a trooper. While we were gone, he got two new teeth (2 canines) - so he now has 14. He took his first steps on July 4th, and has done it a few more times since. He still crawls (on hands & feet, sort of like an orangutan) super-fast but is standing alone more and more confidently. He says "mama," "dada," "nana," "ny ny" (night night), "bye bye," "ba ba" (bottle/sippy), "ki ki" (kitty cat), "hi," and probably a few more I can't think of right now. He is signing more and more - uses signs for doggy, cat, more, food, all done, and night night for most often.

We are driving to the Oregon coast next weekend to stay at a friend's beach house, and then the weekend after that we fly to Hawaii for a week. Fun plans, but so busy!!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Em-Sounds like a fantastic summer for you!!

Parrot-I have no advice for naps. We are constantly on the go, so I don't have "Set" nap scheduals for Abbie, but she usually takes 1 in the am (10-11am) and 1 in the afternoon (Between 2 and 3 for about 2-3 hours), if she misses one, then she misses it, but she usually is back to the same routine the next day.

We took a train to NYC on Thursday. It was so much fun. Abbie didn't really like it on the way down, but LOVED it on the way home. We took her to the American Girl doll Store, and let her pick out a doll. She ended up with an bitty baby. She was petrified of the dolls with real hair (which is weird, because the dolls with plastic hair creep me out). Anyway, on the train home, she was cuddling and loving on her doll wiht hugs and kisses, holding it up and saying dolly, it was adorable. We were on the 5:35 train to upstate, so it was packed with business people. So, she was kissing her doll, and notice people looking at her, so she SLAPPED IT IN THE FACE! Everyone laughed, so she laughed, and proceeded to do it. I was so afraid that people were going to think that she learned that from us!!

It's the weirdest thing, last Tuesday DD woke up a different baby. She decided she was not going to crawl anymore, so she's 100% toddler now! But it isn't just that, she also started doing all these other behaviors, like running away from me and tantruming when I come get her, or pushing me away when we're out because she wants to go where she wants to go. It's just funny how walking=different attitude.

Anyone else notice this with your DC?

Parrothead
07-18-2007, 11:49 AM
Scooter - YES! Once she started walking, DD has become MUCH more independent (and occasionally defiant)!

Update: We've moved DD to one nap/day. Over the past few weeks, she'd become very difficult at naptime to get down, sleeping way long in the AM and refusing the PM, and waking in the middle of the night and/or too early. So, on Sunday we just pushed her to go down for her nap at 11am (vs. 9am). She slept for 3 hours and woke up happy as a clam. She did great all afternoon and slept great that night. It's been that way every day since. I just keep her up until 11 or 11:30 and then let her have a big nap. It's a TOTAL paradigm shift for our schedule though! I was used to being free to do stuff from 11-2 and 4-6, but now I am free from 6:30am-11:30am and 2:30pm-6pm. I can do so much more fun stuff with her, but find myself running around like crazy during her nap to do all of my chores, work, etc.

Walking David took his 1st steps on Thursday at our mommy and baby/ toddler meet up. It was nice that he had an audience to witness it :D

Other updates...
We are moving all next week to our new apartment. I cant wait since we had an all out fight with the neighbors upstairs (non Swiss from eastern Europe)
It was the same day we put our lil dog Spike to sleep- so I wasnt in the mood to deal with them to say the least. So far David hasnt noticed that Spike is no longer with us.

We've been going to the lake with David a lot since summer weather returned. We had almost of month of 50/60 degrees. David loves the lake! He's a lil water rat like his mum :D

Gabriel is busy now throwing his umpteenth temper tantrum of the day. He is screaming and and clenching his fists. These temper tantrums are frequent occurrences in our household of late -- but they seemingly don't happen at day care. We're working on trying to determine the cause of the tantrum before we take action -- a lot of them seem to come from our saying "no", exhaustion, or thirst (or a combination of the three right now). Yesterday, we went to the park -- and Gabriel was having such a good time sliding down the slide and playing with the kids around him that when it was time to go home, he screamed out in anger. Of course, he proceeded to scream the entire stroller ride home.

He is a one nap a day at day care as of this week. Of course he still wakes up at around 5:00 am for a bottle... It doesn't help that I have been getting to sleep at midnight... We walk him to daycare in the morning -- I work from 9-5 in the office, rush to get him at day care, put him to sleep at 9:30 (after dinner, a bath, books, and a bottle), do other work for the office, post in my blog and go to sleep...

In other news, he seems to be making more sounds -- from "rah rah" meaning to bottle to "wah wah" meaning flower. We did not try sign language with him -- but I wish we had because I think some of his frustration derives from his inability to communicate what he wants to parents who don't speak toddler.

I think that he is 24 or so pounds now -- and is wearing 18 month and a few 24 months pieces. We also got his hair cut finally because it was getting into his eyes.

His sister is at sleepaway camp right now -- and we're going on vacation ourselves in a few weeks. There will be some long car trips ahead of us... and we've got to figure out what activities will keep him occupied.
--

My thoughts go out to you Lolly...

Nettreefrog-we cross posted!! I hope the temper tantrums stop soon for you! I'm sure that much of G's distress is the inability to communicate!

Congrats PinkConverse!!!! Wishing you a H&H 9 months. :-)

DS is a full-blown toddler, OH MY GOODNESS. Whew. He has a cold right now and might be teething again, so that could be contributing...But this week he has all of a sudden developed such an attitude. If I take something away from him that he's not supposed to have, get him down from a place he isn't supposed to be, tell him no, or sometimes even just do nothing, he screams. He even threw himself onto the floor screaming the other day because he walked his push toy into the couch and got stuck.

He is taking up to 10 steps at a time, but not yet truly walking. He is taking forever to fall asleep at night, possibly because he wants to be walking around? He climbed onto the coffee table this afternoon, and tried unsuccessfully to climb into his highchair as well. He is refusing most foods and throwing everything onto the floor. Sure makes me wish we had a dog to clean up all his messes!!

Congrats Pink! H&H 9 months to you!!

Emily, I hear you about the attitude, story to follow. Things will get better, I'm sure (When they are 18 and off to college ;) ). I hope if it's his teeth, they come in very very soon!!

So, we have a little comedian on our hands. She thinks she's a riot (And she is, but i refuse to laugh in front of her). Yesterday, after her morning nap, she was playing with he doll. Then she got quiet, and when I looked up, she was peeking at me over the corner of her eye. She was standing in her time out corner with her doll, like she was in time out. It was cute that she put the doll in time out, but what followed what the funny part. She went in the other room and got her father. So, he came out (She has this way of latching onto our legs and not letting go until we realize what she wants), and she went into the corner by herself, and started to bust a move. She was totally making fun of my timeout corner. She took her morning snack to the timeout corner, and her toys there. She kept looking at me with that smart look. I think we are going to have some attitude problems in about 12 years!!!

Congratulations PinkConverse! How exciting!!!

Standrea, that is funny, but not, lol!

Thank you everyone for your condolences on the miscarriage. I'm just looking forward to trying again and getting another BFP in the near future. :)

Mrs U, so sorry to hear about Spike. Last week Casey, my almost 9 year old chocolate lab passed away. Last Tuesday he really wasn't acting like himself and got sick a few times. So I took him to the vet the next day and we found out he had a tumor in his abdomen. He stayed overnight at the vet to receive fluids and antibiotics to get him ready for surgery the next morning. The vet checked on him at 11:30 PM and he was stable. The next morning they found he had passed away during the night. :( I am so very, very sad about this.

in other news...

Walking: I bought Mary new shoes yesterday. Her feet have grown so much in the last few weeks. She walks, but not full-time. She still prefers to crawl.

tantrums: Mary has been having a few of these herself lately, although they are short lived. If I tell her no or move her away from something I don't want her near, sometimes she arches her back to get away from me, or just collapses herself on the floor and cries. But it doesn't last for long, so that's good. She is geting 4 teeth in at once. I think they are molars maybe, so that may explain her attitude.

Em7.31.04 - I could have written your post word for word... It describes DD perfectly the last week or so. Teething, tantrums, screaming, taking longer to fall asleep.

Walking - We are taking steps all the time but not full on walking yet. She is very close!

Congratulations Pink_Converse!

************************
Ack! So far behind. I have been a busy little bee. We went on vacation and then moved to a new house. We are first time home owners and knee deep in getting settled. And, DH is gone all week/weekend.

DD is a crazy little girl. She took her first steps on July 4th while we were on vacation. Then, just this week she seemed to have become a full-fledged walker. Today I saw her walking and my heart broke a little. My baby is walking. She is growing up.

She is also talking up a storm. Bye, dog, bird, ball, mama, daddy, "day-dee" (our dog), shoes, uh-oh, eye, up, all done, "neeneenee" (no no no). She also has a bunch of words that she'll mimic us saying but doesn't really know the context: thank you, oh boy. Yesterday she walked over the fridge, banged on the door and wailed "blueberry." So, now I guess we can add that to the repertoire.

We have done a few signs. I wish I'd been more aggressive with her on them because she picks them up really quick - like after just one day. She knows bird, all done, airplane, flower, shoes, and eat (of course, her favorite).

We haven't really hit the tantrums yet (knock wood). She will scream and arch her back when she doesn't want to get in the stroller or carseat if it means she has to stop playing.

She has 6 upper teeth and just the two front lowers. But, she is teething right now and about to pop two more lowers. She has been pooping a ton and taking a little longer to settle to sleep at night as a result. We leave in 2 weeks for a trip to Europe; I'd really like to not be teething for that!

She is down to one nap a day. It varies from 1 1/2 hours to 3+ hours depending on...I don't know what...just depending.

I have an appt tomorrow to meet with a potential in-home daycare for her for 2 days a week. In our last town, I had a nanny 1-6 two days a week. I might try 9-5 two days a week so she gets socialized and I can use one of the days to work with a womens shelter or something similar. But, it'll be hard to leave her for so long.

We start TTC when we're back from Europe! I'm really excited to A) be pregnant and B) get it over with as we're done with 2.

Here're a couple of shots of my cutie from vacation.

Isn't that funny how that's the only time its socially acceptable to say "Beautiful Pudge"?? I love it! She's beautiful Bloomwood! And congrats on the new house!

My child keeps getting bolder and bolder. She did two things the other day. 1), the phone rang, and I didn't answer it. it was my girlfriend that I didn't feel like talking to. Abbie went and grabbed the phone off the end table, put it to her ear, and said hello. (It automatically answers when picked up) She was so proud of herself. I immediately moved the phone to another location.

2) I had left my keys in the door. I opened the door and went back out to the car to get packages, but forgot to take the keys out. She started to yell because she wanted them so bad, but I just said no. Next thing I knew, she was pushing a box across our living room, stood on it, and got the keys out of the door.

HOW DOES SHE KNOW HOW TO DO THESE THINGS?? ARENT THEY ALL SUPPOSED TO BE BABIES STILL??

In other news, I spent the night in the er the other night because of awful pain in my stomache. I have to go in today for more tests, because they think its my gallbladder...what a way to end the summer!

Pink -- he's very cute...Kyle won't walk on his own yet either. He's let go, but at soo as he realizes he drops to the ground.

It's been forever since I've been here. I've checked in, but haven't had the chance to post. Kyle is getting big, eating everything in site, but still not walking on his own. Why should he, he can get there crawling and big brother gets blocked by him when he's crawling and he'd never be able to outrun him. We took the boys to the Aquarium today and they loved it. Kyle kept trying to catch the fish in the tanks.

StrideRite Shoes-I went and looked at them and couldn't bring myself to buy them. I basically told the saleslady to convince me he NEEDED $50 shoes and she talked me out of them and said stick to the Robeez 'til he starts walking! My mom told me to buy him some with her money. Now that's another story. I can waste someone else's money ;) so he will probably get a pair this week.

Quoting myself from another thread. We had our first injury here yesterday:

I thought I was going to lose my cookies yesterday. DS was in his PNP standing up watching TV (mommy was tired) and I was lying on the couch behind him. All of the sudden he falls and begins to scream. I go to him and there is blood on his knee and hands, I can't tell where it's coming from! Then it begins to POUR from his mouth. I rush him into the bathroom and begin to rinse his mouth and try to find the source of the injury, I think it's his lip o tongue. He is not being cooperative but I see blood pourinig down his front teeth. I rinse him again, throw on my shoes and call the Dr.'s office. They say come on it, I am right down the street. Turns out he tore his frenulum. That tiny piece of skin that connects your upper lip to your gums. How sad is that? That sucker is REALLY connected onto your gums big time when you're a baby. It was between his teeth. It's all cut and bruised on the inside. The worst part is there isn't anythiing they can do about it. I don't even know how he did it. Maybe he had a toy or cup in his mouth when he fell? I looked it up and it said it was commonly caused by blunt trauma to the mouth. I don't think he hit it on the outside though so I don't know. He seems fine but it was nerve wracking and GROSS. I can't handle blood but somehow I spring into action when someone I love is hurt. Thank goodness. Maybe this doesn't belong here but in the worst mommy in the world award thread?!! I felt like a dog.

Pink - I agree - don't blame yourself! These things happen! DS got his first stitches at 10 months old after falling and cutting his hand on the metal miniblinds on our bedroom windows (he didn't let go when he fell). I was two feet from him, but there was nothing I could do. I'm so glad we haven't had any other experiences like that.

Congratulations Karlatta!

Long time no post here. Things have been crazy around here... on vacation, a move and now we are settling into our new house! We spent 10 days in San Diego at my parent's and had a great time. DD had a BLAST at the beach! Loved both the sand and the water. Then last weekend we moved into our new house! We love it! It is so nice to have so much space!

Onto DD...

Oh how I love this little girl! She brightens my days (and sometimes drives me crazy at the same time)! She is getting so big and developing everyday.

15 month WBV - Weight: 20 lbs 4 oz - Height: 31.25"

Walking - We are a full time walker! She will crawl occasionally but is mostly walking.

Eating - We have our days... Some days she surprises me and will eat anything I offer her and then the next day will eat nothing. We are still working on the veggies.

Naps - We are still on 2x day. It just works for her!

Talking - She is talking up a storm. Not a lot of real words but a TON of jibberish. Her new word is car.

Teeth - We have a mouth full of teeth... well 12 of them!

Shoes - DD is not a fan of shoes but now that she is walking they are neccessary. She has a pair of Keds (I know not the greatest) and then yesterday I bought her a pair of PediPeds... SO cute and I have heard they are good for their feet.

Now for my QOTD: What are you guys doing about disciplining your DC?

Standrea
08-16-2007, 04:04 PM
MMH-Abbie has 3 strikes and then timeout. She's put in the corner for 1 minute. She gets it too, because she totally will go right to the corner if she knows she did something naughty.

Abbie had her 15 mo WBV tuesday.
She was 34 inches, 23lbs 4 oz. Everything looked great.

I'm sad to say that Abbie has weaned from nursing. I had been really sick, and was put on some medicine and narcotics, and I didn't want to chance it. I'm sad, but since we are TTC #2, it's ok. She was fine with it. We made it just about 15 months.

I hope everyone else is doing well!

I can't remember the last time I've posted. And, I don't have the excuse of moving (congruations MMH) or having a baby (congratulations Karlatta!!).

15 month WBV:
weight: 24lbs 12oz
length: 32.25 inches

My little peanut is not so little anymore. He's been walking well for the past couple of weeks. He's so very excited about it. The bad news is he only wants to be held for quick hugs and kisses before he's off again.

DS has 9 teeth maybe, but has been teething for a while now. We only have one molar to show for it so far, but I'm hoping others are on the way. He'll say mama and dada, but while he uses them correctly, mama is also used whenever he wants something. Charming. The best is his uh-oh. Useful for whenever he accidentally drops something, but also fun for whenever he throws something on the floor. It's pretty cute.

He's been learning body parts. His favorite is the belly button, both his own and ours. It's cute when he lifts up my shirt to find mine, but doesn't work so well when I'm wearing a dress or when we're in public. He makes me laugh often.

Discipline DS understands no, but often choose not to stop what he's doing. Re-direction still works well though, so we haven't attempted anything further. One of my biggest frustrations is throwing food, ugh. We'll take it away from him, let him sit for a while and try again.

Lolly

MMH Congrats on the house!

15 month WBV
She's in the 25th percentile for weight and height
weight: 21lbs 15oz
length: Yikes! don't recall at the moment

walking
She's been walking everywhere since a few weeks ago. It makes some things a lot easier now that she can walk well. We just take things slower though. I think she even ran a little the other night. She was going so fast and couldn't stop herself, so she fell, but got right back up again.

teeth
Mary has 11.5 teeth now (one more molar is almost through!)

new stuff
No new words really but she likes to 'sing' along and dance. I love when she dances, its so cute. I could probably loose some weight if I would dance like her. She folds her arms up and twists from side to side, like she's working out. And she squats a little while twisting. Girls gonna get a six pack and muscular legs!

Discipline
We tell her no, and if she doesn't stop right away we remove her from that situation. That's the extent of it for now.

weaning
I just weaned her last Friday, so its been one week now. A little after 12 months she was down to two BF a day. One first thing in the morning and one at bedtime. The weekends would be during the day sometimes too. Then one night last month we skipped her bedtime feeding and had no problems. Then last Friday, I skipped her morning one and she didn't care. I think we were just doing it out of habit by then anyway since she was only on for about 2 minutes. So I guess she was fully weaned at 15 months.

Discipline-Re-direction, no, putting him in his PNP away from whatever he's doing for a few minutes. Not much works!

QOTD:

What are your DC eating these days? Are they using utensils?

How much milk are your DC drinking?

Parrothead
08-20-2007, 09:26 AM
QOTDs Food, utensils, milk....

Food: A typical day looks like this. FYI, these are the things that I offer, she eats very little of each! Food is a bit of a battle...I find myself offering tons of stuff and ending up w/ a tray of uneaten food b/c she really doesn't want much these days. Ugh.

B: Yogurt w/ blueberries, cottage cheese, broccoli, waffle
S: Raisins & crackers
L: Diced meatballs, cheese, sauteed eggplant w/ tomato sauce, pasta, banana
S: Danimals yogurt
D: Canned white meat chicken, cheese, pasta, broccoli, pineapple

Utensils: Will play w/ them, but not really use them. The best she does is if I scoop some yogurt and then hand it to her very close to her mouth. She'll usually get it in there.

Milk: I offer milk when she wakes up, before her single nap, and before bed. Each time I offer about 8oz. She drinks most of it each time.

Pink_Converse
08-20-2007, 11:45 AM
QOTDs Food, utensils, milk....

Food: Not eating much right now. He has an ear infection. He usually eats a little of whatever we eat for L and D. For breakfast it's a couple of frozen pancakes or a piece of toast and a whole banana and milk. Usually he eats peanut butter or jam on his breads for breakfast. Snacks are usually freeze dried corn, a baby cookie, string cheese, pb snack crackers or goldfish.

Milk: Maybe 3 cups a day. I offer it at meal times. He's not nuts about it. Sometimes I add Danimals Yogurt to it.

Utensils: If I give them to him he will eat even less than usual because it's more interested in them than the food so we have not tried much. Sometimes he will spear a piece of food with a fork and then take it off to eat it

smiles33
08-20-2007, 01:15 PM
Food: DD loves to eat and fortunately DH does all the cooking so I don't worry about it. Our regular rotation includes pasta (udon, macaroni, rotelle, penne--she eats it all!), rice, chicken, meatballs, pork (including meat sliced off baby back ribs!), corn, green peas, green beans, carrots, tofu, blueberries, bananas, apples, yogurt, cheerios, wheat crackers, and most recently--sundried tomato bread.

Milk: I'm not sure how much cow's milk she drinks each day as I am still nursing and she won't take cow's milk at all when I'm around. I WOH 4 days a week so I think we go through about 1/2 gallon of cow's milk those days. And, DD is still drinking from a bottle. We've tried a cup, but she sticks her hand in or pours it over herself, so we haven't weaned her from the bottle yet. Anyone else's DC still on the bottle? She moves to the next classroom at her center in 2 weeks and they don't allow bottles, so she's going to have to adjust fast!

Utensils: We rarely give her utensils at home (she tends to throw them on the ground), but I gave her a spoon yesterday for her yogurt and she fed herself most of it before throwing it to the ground!

Food: B, L, & D is whatever we eat. Snacks are veggies with Hummus, Yogart, crackers, raisins, cheese, or fresh fruit. She eats a frozen gogurt after dinner everynight.

Milk:She drinks about 2 cups a day of soymilk.

Utensils:She has them with her meals, but she usually only uses them at dinner.

Food: DS goes through phases every few days. Luckily right now he is eating everything we put in front of him. Usually banana, blueberries, pancake, waffle or dry cereal for breakfast. Fruit, dried veggies, grilled cheese, quesadilla, yogurt are typical lunch foods. For dinner he usually gets what we are eating, but sometimes we'll give extra things if he isn't eating much of our food. :-) He drinks about 3 cups of milk a day and would probably drink more if we offered it. He really seems to love it.

Utensils: He throws them on the floor. He just started daycare so I'm hoping they will work on this with him!

Bottles: DS has been completely off bottles for over a month now.

Is anyone still avoiding giving DC certain foods?
The reason I ask is because I have a few friends IRL whose DCs are close to DS's age and they are offering certain foods that I thought were still off-limits? We are still waiting to offer peanut butter, shellfish, honey and juice (juice is just a personal decision, not because of specific recommendation from our ped). Am I the only one?

Food: She eats pretty much everything we offer her although the amount she eats varies from day to day. Some days she can't get enough to eat and other days she picks at her food. Breakfast usually consists of some combination of Cheerios, pancakes, eggs, yogurt, or fruit. Lunch is often either a sandwich (maybe grilled cheese or turkey), quesadilla, hummus, fruit, sometimes leftovers from dinner the night before. Dinner is whatever we're eating that night. Tonight it was chicken, rice, and asparagus. Come to think of it, pretty much all of her meals consist of whatever we happen to be eating. She also nurses frequently throughout the day.

Milk: She really doesn't drink all that much milk since she's still nursing.

Utensils: I haven't even attempted to give her any yet. Bad Mommy. :o

Bottles: She never took one. She's still nursing but she will take a sippy cup if I offer it to her.

Is anyone still avoiding giving DC certain foods?
Yes. We're abstaining from peanut butter and shellfish until she's three. Food allergies run in the family and I'm not taking any chances. Aside from that she eats most anything unles it's a choking hazard (nuts, popcorn, some raw veggies, etc).

Has anyone ever heard of Infant Swimming Resources? It's basically a survival swim class and it is amazing! Lila is graduating this week. If you have an instructor near you I highly recommend it. http://www.infantswim.com/

Food: mostly the same as us, although I don't give her much spicy stuff. She's also lactose intolerant and we're raising her vegetarian. She loves scrambled eggs, soy yogurt, pretty much all fruits and veggies (except tomatoes), tofu, beans, rice, whole wheat breads, hummus, veggie hot dogs, cheese. Gave her some of my falafel last night, also a big hit. :) I can't complain, the girl loves to eat a variety of foods!

Milk: sadly we're in the process of weaning, so she's drinking more milk. Lactose intolerant, though. She gets a cup of soy milk when she wakes up and before bed, and a cup of rice milk before her one nap.

Utensils: She's a champ with the spoon. Can eat an entire bowl of soup or yogurt etc with it, with no help and minimal spilling. It was like overnight she decided she needed to feed herself, and she figured out how to do it immediately.

Avoiding foods, yeah, we're definitely doing this. No peanut butter, honey (obviously, that one's not for allergy reasons), or any nuts, for at least another year. We're cautious because there are food allergies in our families. We also don't do any juice. There's just no point, IMO, it's like junk food.

avoiding foods-Not really. She had lobster at my girlfriends house and licked the plate clean (literally, I'll have to post pictures, it was hysterical). She loves her peanut butter sandwiches, and I was told that they could have honey after they turned a year. We have yet to just give her straight honey, but she's had it baked inthings.
We do not give her juice though. We know so many kids that refuse to drink water and only want juice. Our DD is happy with water, just the way we wanted it!

15 Month WBV
21 pounds (between 5th and 10th %)
30 inches (between 10th and 25th %)
12 teeth

He's still a little guy, but his bio mom is rather petite, so we're not surprised. I am fairly certain that his little sister will pass him up within a year or so.

Avoiding Foods - We don't really avoid anything. DS eats pretty much anything he sees. We do peanut butter and honey (baked in things like Standrea) - we started those at one year. We do avoid juice, although he always gets it when my mom is visiting.

Milk - DS LOVES milk. I always say that he gets it from me. (I am a huge milk drinker.) He drinks a full sippy cup with every meal and water with all snacks.

Utensils - DS can feed himself with a fork and spoon, but we still load them up for him. Mostly just because I don't want to deal with the huge mess he makes.

Avoiding food-Honey, things that could pose a choking hazard. I have one of those kids that doesn't like straight water so I wish I would have avoided juice, although I would not say he drinks more than 2 or 3 oz watered down per day. I was big on that and just let it slide eventually. I think I will be more diligent with No. 2! DS eats pb regularly, he hasn't had any other nuts, he eats fish containing no bones and shellfish. We have no food allergies on any side that I know of so I haven't been too worried. I was worried about pb but ready to try it and it was fine.

Are most of you scared of raisins still or is it just me?

We had a veggie breakthrough with DD last night (corn, carrots, peas, green beans) and then today she wouldn't even touch them! :(

I have the worst eater... for dinner tonight I offered her the mixed veggies, rice, turkey, grilled cheese (all things she likes and has eaten) and she wouldn't touch any of them! So for dinner she had grapes, a pancake and 1/2 of a yogurt.

What do you guys do when your DC won't eat something you offier them? Do you continue to offer them things until you find something they will eat? I get so frustrated with her!

To answer my other QOTD:

Foods: The only thing I am guarenteed to get her to eat are pancakes, bananas and yogurt. Everything else is a hit or miss. Last night was the first time she has eaten veggies in months!

Milk: Ususally a sippy cup of milk with each meal. We just dropped our bedtime bottle!

Avoiding foods: We don't really avoid anything. She has had peanut butter but haven't really offered anything else. Not to avoid it just haven't had the opportunity.

Utensils: She loves to use them but I have to put the food on them.

Standrea

MMH-have you offered the veggies with some sort of dip? Like, maybe yogart or something? That may make it more appealing to A. Or, if you've given her peanut butter, you can give her celery with peanut butter and raisins.

QOTD-I do offer Abbie different foods until she accepts one. She usually will eat the first though. Today she had a melt down, and didn't want anything, until I made vegitarian vegitable soup. It was messy, but she ate it.

I'll come back and update later, but just need to vent. DD has become an amazingly picky eater. We just spent 10 days in Sweden. Bread, Bread Bread. I mean, I understand she doesn't want to eat salmon or herring (i had quite my fill by day 3, too), but nothing. Don't even ask about Swedish meatballs. Not a winner. We'd special order her all these meals or sacrifice what we wanted to choose something she'd eat. Bread. I got her to eat some of my spinach on the plane home last night and felt it was a huge coup. We managed to buy her some yogurt and fruit at the market but the poor girl. I really hope it was just a travel thing and she gets back on track now that we are home. Oh, she's also cutting like 5 teeth so that could have something to do with it as well.

Call me crazy....But I am already starting to think about what to get DS for Christmas. Anyone else thinking this far ahead?

Ideas I have so far:
easel, smock, finger paints, crayons
sand/water table
pass to local children's museum
(more) Mega Bloks

Also, have any other DCs figured out how to remove their diaper? DS kept taking his off yesterday...I was literally chasing him around our 1st floor trying to put a diaper back on him. He loves to be naked, and loves to be chased, so he was laughing hysterically. So funny.

Hi ladies!

DH took DD in for her 15 month WBV, as I noticed all of you were mentioning it, and it turns out our ped doesn't expect 15 month WBV.

Anyhow, her stats are:

24 lbs
31"
47.8 cm head circumference

Basically, she has a GIGANTIC head for her frame. :)

Still only 8 teeth, but swollen gums and fussiness over the past week lead us to believe the molars are heading in soon.

Haven't thought about Xmas gifts yet. She's got way too much stuff already (first grandkid on both sides, 2 aunts, 1 uncle, 4 grandparents). We might just pick a sentimental gift like a special book.

I was thinking of getting a kid-size table and chair set for her in the next month or so, though. Anyone else have one of these?

Nope, DD hasn't figured out how to remove her diaper *yet.* Is this something they all learn? I was wondering when folks move to the Pull-Up diapers. Would that make it more difficult or easier to pull off?

Hope everyone's having a good Monday!

Christmas - For sure, I am buying DS a table and chairs set (from IKEA, and then I'll paint them myself). That will be from Santa. I need to come up with something from us, though. My mom bought him a Stephen Joseph backpack, which I can't wait to see!

Diaper - DS has been removing his for months. But last night he managed to take it off while keeping his clothes on. I found a used diaper on the living room floor, looked over at DS, noticed his butt was smaller than usual, and when I pulled down his shorts he was going commando! I have no idea how he managed to do it.

We were just talking about Christmas gifts the other day! I am going to ask my family to get us a year membership to the zoo (5 mins away, and the membership includes parking, admission, and comes with some guest passes). Plus, maybe the cost of it will scale down the gift explosion this year. ;) She's just now starting to play with some of the toys my family got her LAST Christmas! They got her stuff to grow into. I'm considering a table & chair set, because it'll be good for coloring and projects and things. She LOVES her little armchair, so I know it would go over well.

Now, she's not taking off her diaper, but she's in cloth so maybe it'll take her a little longer! Let's hope.

I'm nervous about the molars, but she's still working on teeth #7 and 8 on the bottom. Hopefully they'll come in before the molars really get moving.

DS is in cloth. He can get out of a bumGenius in no time flat. FB's slow him down. My favorites are prefolds and covers - at least then he has to work through two layers before he's bare-bottomed.

We bought DD's table and chairs from BRU-it matches her bedding. But since she is getting a big girl room soon, we are just going to turn her playroom into that theme (Sea Life).

Diaper-DD hasn't taken her diaper off yet, but I have pants or bloomers on her at all times, so I think this kind of deters her from it.

Christmas- I started shopping in June (I'm crazy, I know!!). I bought her a shopping cart full of groceries, an "Abby Cadabby" bookbag that was just too cute-the a doll thats a bookbag. Little People Princess Castle. She will get child sized cleaning supplies (She LOVES to help me clean). We are going to ask family for stuff for her big girl room.

Big girl room-I think we are going ot have to move her to a big girl bed sooner then anticipated, because she's scaling the sides of her crib, and I'm pretty sure soon she'll be able to get herself out.

Karla & Emily, DD's always in Bummis Super Whisper wraps and prefolds--I think the velcro on those wraps is pretty strong because she can't get it undone yet! With FB snaps I bet she'd just be able to yank it right off.

Standrea, funny about the cleaning supplies, I was thinking about getting DD some of that too. So she can stop dragging the full-sized broom around the house while I'm vacuuming, "helping" me. I need to get her a toddler sized one. ;)

Scooter-I give Abbie a rag while I dust, and she just follows me along. SOmetimes she wants to mop the floor with it too. She has been known to dip the rag in the toilet to get it wet and try to "wash" the floors. Not one of her better moments. It was still cute though.

Hi Ladies!

Wow I havent checked in for a while. We moved, then had 2 weeks vacation, and now I'm packing again for vacation.:D

Congrats Karlatta! She's beautiful!

Christmas Not really into buying things, but we'll probably pick up a new toy or 2 for David. Rather have him raised that it's a family day with traditional dinner.

Teeth Man oh man- 4 came in at the same time 2 weeks ago- 2 which were molars and not fun to say the least. David's working on another molar and the rest of front bottom teeth at the present time *joy*

avoiding foods We still refuse to let him try fish until he can clearly say if he likes it or not. I have a really bad reaction to fish *meaning puking my head off for hours* and rather have him tell us that he doesnt like it or if he feels like he's gonna get sick. He's had honey. Peanut Butter I think is what we'll try next. Juice is only apple watered down.

foods we were doing really well until the last batch of teeth came in. He still eats everything, but with the teething I found myself pureeing again so he would eat something.

walking David is finally walking full time- just in time for our vacation!:D

From this past Wed. weigh in- David is:
25 lbs
31.5 inches tall
head is 47.7 cm

Walking-H is still not walking!!! His ped set a goal for Sept. 16th and if he isn't walking by them we will see a physical therapist just to make sure nothing is wrong. His ped and I both think he is just overly cautious but want to rule out any problems. It drives me crazy that he isn't walking yet but I don't worry about it, I just WANT him to walk. Especially in time for Disneyworld in October.

M has started Mother's Day Out!

It is wonderful. He loves his teachers - one of them has been teaching his class for 15+ years, so she's absolutely wonderful, and M took to her right away. In fact, at meet the teacher day, he kept asking her to hug him, and when I tried to take him from her, he wouldn't let me!

He's been doing really well at drop-off too. Most of the other kids scream and holler when their moms leave. M couldn't care less. He just gets down and plays with the toys, and every once in a while looks around like he's confused about why so many of the other kids are upset. He is precious.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Welcome IronHair! Wow, that's great you're having 2 May babies....I was just thinking the other day that May was a GREAT time to have a baby.

Teeth- 8 fully emerged, 4 visible and about to break through completely (6 on top, 6 on bottom)

Favorite foods - Varies widely, as she loves one thing for a while and then refuses it the next week. Right now, she just got over a mini-love fest with cranberries and is now obsessed with carrots

Least favorite foods - I don't think she has any either. She eats EVERYTHING.

New skills - Running, signing "More" and "Eat"

What kind of social activities are you involved in? I WOH full-time (with a 1 hour RT commute) so DD goes to a NAEYC-accredited daycare center on my university campus 3 days a week where she has 11 other toddlers in her classroom and 4 teachers. She also spends 1 day at home with MIL and MIL's parents (DD's great-grandparents who are in great health for 85+ years old!) drop by every week. DH also watches her 1 day while I work from home that day. He only works 4 days/week as he was able to adjust his patient schedule. We don't do any play groups or classes because weekends are family time.

I'd like a QOTD to this too: How much hair does your DC have?

DD STILL looks like a little boy with no hair. There's not even enough to put in barrettes! Apparently, DH's sisters were both bald until after they were 2 years old!

Just jumping back in to answer Smiles' new QOTD:

Hair - VERY little! We are FAR from being able to use any kind of bows or barrettes! I try to dress her in TONS of pink to try to eliminate the "he's so cute" comments.

How much hair does your DC have? Alot. It's very very very curly though. When I wash her hair, It goes to her shoulder blades, but when it's dry, it kinks right up to the back of her head. The has been able to have pig tails since she was 2 months old. I really think we should cut the top to even it out a little (The top is MUCH longer then the back and sides), but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Thanks for the Welcomes! Standrea - a friend from the May 2008 Mommies board :)

Teeth: 12 (6 top, 6 bottom) at last glance - he won't let me in there often!

Favorite Food: green beans, cottage cheese, crackers

Lease Favorite Food: tomatoes - he eats just about anything else (including dog food if I'm not on top of my game!)

New Skills: CLIMBING! Operating the push-button on his battery-powered 4-wheeler

Favorite Activity: stockpiling

Words: hi, bye, mama, dad, uh oh, no, yah, Dane & Addie (friends from daycare), kitty, Jack (dog), duck, be-be (name for his blankie), shoes, down, and sound for cow, dog, lion, kitty, bird, and sheep. We tried signing, but he wouldn't have any of it

Naps: 2

Bedtime: 7:30pm to 6:30am

Clothing Size: 12-18 months

Shoe Size: 5

Activities: Not much for group activities offered in our area

Hair: Lots! He was born with a lot of hair, but I held off on getting his first hair cut until after his first birthday and we've had two since then!

I found that she pushed her activity table into our bedroom, and climbed on that, to get onto the box spring, to step up onto our bed. Fun times ahead!!

Welcome Ironhair! I joined you and Standrea as well :)

Teeth: 12 (6 top, 6 bottom)

Favorite Food: rice, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, mac & cheese, cottage cheese, crackers, breakfast bars, yogurt, cereal and milk (like rice crispies, chex), cheese, fruit, especially watermelon. Basically anything dairy, she loves. Broccoli, tunafish, eggs, pork, and chicken sometimes, it depends on her mood.

Lease Favorite Food: depends on her mood but she'll usually eat anything

New Skills: running! And loves to carry anything, everything all over the house. Makes for fun clean-up time!

Favorite Activity: playing with shopping bags, purses, baskets. Anything she can put things into and carry around. Oh and playing in the sand box.

Words: buh bye, dah (dad), Momma (sometimes Mommy), uh oh, doh (dog), bee-bee (belly), noh (nose), muh (for her cup or as in more food), hhahahaha (baaaaaa for a sheep), and many more that I can't think of now.

Naps: 1 a day at 2 to 3 hours. Well at daycare she naps that well. At home on the weekends its more like one hour and half nap.

Bedtime: 7:30pm to 7:00am when I wake her

Clothing Size: 12-18 months

Shoe Size: 4 wide

Activities: nothing right now, but she does a lot of activities at daycare already.

Hair: more now. And its starting to curl up. I've always put bow clips in it. Right before she turned one I started putting tiny pig tails on top of her head. Now I can put in two low pig tails on the side of her head. Some days she keeps them in for a while, until she gets sleepy then she pulls them out. Then she looks like bozo the clown, lol. Still cute though.

Welcome ironhair! Congrats on your pregnancy!

Good idea for the quick topic updates, MMH. :)

Teeth - 6 (only 2 on the bottom still), but the molars are coming in and its MISERY!

Favorite foods - She eats pretty much everything, but is really loving stuff that she can bite off of. Like bananas, toast, etc. And loves flavor--garlic, onions, last night we (not DD) had sushi and after one taste she was begging for all of our pickled ginger!

Least favorite foods - Doesn't like raw tomatoes or veggie burgers, but will eat everything from cabbage to green beans to Brussels sprouts!

New skills - Running, walking up and down stairs using the railing (!), climbing onto the furniture, can walk all the way around the block without me carrying her.

Favorite activity - Reading books, playing with dolls and stuffed animals (washing them, putting them night-night, giving them a bottle),

Words - She's really talkative, she's got 57 words and phrases now. Newest words from this week are: outside, grandma ("gra-gah"), all done

Naps - 1 two-hour nap. She cut down to that at about 13 mos and has been fine with it.

Bedtime - 8:30 to 9pm, wakes up about 8-8:30am

Clothing size - 12-18 months, barely! She's 29 inches and 19.5 lbs.

Shoe size - just starting to outgrow a 3.

What kind of social activities are you involved in? We have playgroup one day a week, and besides that we just make lots of plans to see friends and family all the time. :)

ETA: Oh, I almost forgort the most exciting news...we're working on potty training! I just put her on her potty chair when I know she's probably going to go soon. Like when she wakes up or after eating. So far we've been successful the last three mornings with both pee and poop, and have had some luck later in the day, too. :D It just takes such a commitment from mom here, I know she can do it if I stick with it. It's just hard to dedicate that much time to it, but I know it'll be worth it.

Those of you who have started with potty training... what were your clues / signs that your DC was ready?

Standrea
09-11-2007, 01:19 PM
DD started to hide when she pooped. The Pediatrician said that that's a good sign, she knew what she was doing.

I'm not consistant at all. I just put her on her potty seat (Kandoo), before bed, before tub, and when seh wakes up, or if I can catch her. I'm afraid to push it, because i've read articles about children regressing if its pushed.

Scooter
09-11-2007, 01:24 PM
MMH, I don't think at this age they really give signs they're ready. I think that comes more when they're 2-3 yrs old. We're not doing the usual potty training thing, I'm just timing it according to her own rhythms to see if we can catch it--she's not telling me in any way that she has to go or anything. Mainly I'm trying to get the idea in her head early that she can go on the potty chair, too, so it's not such a struggle later on. And if we have enough success with it that she moves to training pants etc, then that'll be great! I'm not using any rewards, I just sit her down on the potty seat in the bathroom, and we read a book or two together. When she stands up there's usually something in there, in which case I make a big deal about it and we flush it away saying "bye bye!" But if there's nothing, I just say "Look, no pee pee this time! Maybe later." Then put her diaper on and we leave the bathroom. She's in cloth diapers, so she does have a better general awareness of when she goes than babies in disposables, because she can always feel it! That'll be an advantage.

Lolly
09-11-2007, 02:12 PM
Potty Training, wow! I wasn't even going to think about this for at least a few more months. But since its been brought up. Mary has had many nights when she wakes up and her diaper is completely dry. I mentioned this to the pediatrition at her 15 month appt. and she told me that, that may be a cue that she'll be easy to potty train. I haven't done anything in that area yet. Haven't even looked at buying her a potty for home. I was thinking that when she around 18 months I'll start looking into it (thats less than 2 months away though!)

Copying the format!

Congrats to Ironhair (and welcome) and Lolly!

Teeth: 12 (6 top, 6 bottom). At 14 months she only had 6 so she has had an explosion!

Favorite Food: hmmm...depends on the day. Besides crackers, go-tos are spinach and cheese/turkey toast. She loves spinach and broccoli except for the days that she doesn't.

Least Favorite Food: meat and anything with a sauce.

New Skills: giving the dog love.

Favorite Activity: loves to be outside and loves playing with the dog. She's very social. Also loves to read. and have the tv on, but I limit it quite a bit.

Words: She has about 30: mommy, daddy, sadie (said dog), dog, cat, hot, buhbye, bubble, ball, corn, berries (beez), cheese, hi, hello, baby (which is baby, blankie and many other things these days), shoes, bath, car. There's more, but I can't think of them right now. Today she learned the names of her daycare provider and playmate at daycare. She got a big smile when I said their names when we got home.

Naps: 1 a day for 2 to 3 hours.

Bedtime: 7pm (sometimes a little earlier when it's been a long day for mommy:o) until 6:45 or so.

Clothing Size: 12-18 months, but quickly approaching 2T:(

Shoe Size: 4/5

Activities: daycare 2x/week, music, playgroup, and starting gymbo soon

Hair: a fair amount but it is really fine. She also won't keep clips in which bums me out. I keep trying.

ETA: Signs: more, all done, eat, water, bird, airplane, night-night, and "dances" (swings her upper body back and forth) when she wants the radio or tv on.

Just a quick question? Has anyone else's DC been acting up within the past week? I don't know if it is the moon, or what, but DD has been in a funk, and so have all of her friends. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess her molars are coming in (I say she's teething, but then again, when AREN'T they teething?!), but, I can't be so certain. Maybe the terrible two's? I've read that that can hit anytime after 15 months.

And, I wanted to drop off a picture of the little one herself.

Yeah, this thread is always kind of slow. I know that I'm pretty busy with my toddler and newborn, but I'm usually around.

M has been having a lot of separation anxiety lately. I think it's a combination of having a new baby sister around (and all the visitors that have come along with that) and starting MDO. It seems though any time someone new is around, he gets really scared and literally will not leave my side. It makes it way less helpful when people come to "help out" with the new baby, because I usually just end up with two crying kids and some random adult looking around not knowing what to do with themselves.

Standrea

Standrea-Abby is so cute. H has been acting up too. He's not really napping well or on a schedule these days and I think that is part of it.

This thread is slow!

QOTD-Is everyone's little one walking but mine? H is 16 mo. old today and still no walking. Our ped is referring him to a Early Childhood Interventionist to see if he needs physical therapy! I really wanted him walking before our trip to Disneyworld next month. I hope he starts soon.

Me-I had an u/s today and saw baby no. 2. It was so cute. It kept opening and closing it's mouth and jumping around. Can't wait to find out what I am having!

Karlatta-Hope M gets over his seperation anxiety soon. It was so nice to meet you all finally!

I'm around just behind. Between one in kindergarten and Kyle with his separation anxiety!!! it makes it tough to get much done (not to mention the laptop screen keeps going funky). He's been awful with sleep lately too. He started a PMO program, but it's only 1 morning a week, so that shouldn't throw him off that much, but something has!

Kyle is cruising big time and has taken a couple steps, but that's it. Our ped. won't even begin to worry about it until 18 months. 16 months is when my older one started to walk too. Pink -- is he walkling along while holding on to things? I know Kyle drops to the ground when he really wants to get somewhere, like to a ball ahead of us or up the stairs, etc.

Congrats to those expecting and best wishes to those trying.

De-lurking to say that I drop by to visit now and then, but often don't post as there's nothing much to report about DD. Since she's in daycare 3 days/week and w/DH and MIL the other 2, I really only spend quality time with her on the weekends and in the evenings. But I do like reading along to see how the other May toddlers are doing (especially those of you who SAH and can report in more detail!).

We're taking off for a week-long vacation to go houseboating tomorrow (the first since she was born!) as there is finally some stability at my office so I can leave. I'm a bit anxious about the sleeping arrangements (no room for a PNP) but figure worst-case scenario, she sleeps with us.

Hope all is well with the rest of you!

I'm way behind in posting, but I do check back here often. Sam seems to be a bit off the past couple of weeks too. Not really separation anxiety, but he's having trouble falling asleep at night and he gets frustrated easily. We have daily meltdowns over the simplest things. It started when we got back from vacation, and there have been some changes at daycare. Next month he starts in the toddler room. I'm not sure either of us is ready for that change!

Pink DS has been walking for a little while now, but I know that I didn't walk until 18 months. Still, it sounds good to be able to talk to a professional to ease any concern and address any problems should there be any. I promise you that despite my late start, I'm a fully capable walker now.

Words Wow, you all have some chatty toddlers! DS has a few words, but is very limited. He's great at imitating our inflection though. He likes to pretend count, "anh, onh, eeh" mimicking us as best as he can.

Favorite Activity We took a few lengths out of our swiffer handle and gave it to DS to use as his broom. He does a pretty good job, getting under furniture and into corners. I'm taking advantage of this helpful stage as long as I can!

Yes, he came 5 weeks early. I think that may be the "problem". He crawled late too, he army crawled but I don't think he really crawled properly til he was around 1! I can't remember exactly :o

I am not really worried about him, I just really want him to walk! T he ped office called this am and told me they faxed over the referral to the ECI and I should be hearing from them soon. I really hope insurance covers it.

That's so funny, that's one of DS's favorite activities too! He goes to the closet where we keep the brooms and things and gets out his swiffer and brings me the dust mop - pretty bad when your 1 year old tells you it's time to clean! He loves to use the dustbuster too.

Pink - We went through ECI for M's therapy. It won't be expensive at all, even if insurance doesn't cover it. Here (http://www.dars.state.tx.us/ecis/fcsfeescale.shtml)is a link to the expected payments a family would have to make (monthly). It's really quite reasonable.

Standrea - M is doing great with the new baby! He just loves her to pieces. He likes to give her his toys, and he's recently started trying to get right in front of her and make faces and stuff to try to make her smile. It's so adorable. He has become a little more clingy than usual, but he's really adjusted so well.

What a very quiet thread! Nothing really new or exciting here. DD is in her first wedding next weekend (my BIL's). Should be interesting getting a 17 month old down an aisle, to sit through 45 minute ceremony and get through almost an hour of pictures!

I have also started to think about Christmas / Holiday gifts... Anyone know what they are doing yet? I know for sure a kichen and a table & chair set but I will need some other ideas for grandparents and relatives.

I also ordered DD's Halloween costume... the Babystyle octopus! I can't wait to take her trick-or-treating!

For christmas, we are getting her a shopping cart, cleaning supplies, and a new kitchen (I think. I have DH 98% convinced that she wants the PBK one). There are other things, I just can't remember.

Pink-How is H doing with his walking?

We are doing well here. I have my first OB appointment today. I can't believe I'm doing this all again, at the same time as when I had abbie. It really worked out with maternity clothes, I only need to buy a few things (I have alot of dressy work stuff that I won't wear since I'm not a SAHM). For sure I have a pudge already, and have resorted to wearing maternity, which I don't think I touched until about 20 weeks with Abbie.

H is still doing the Frankenstein 3 or 4 step thing. Can't wait for him to take off but it's a start. He looks so big to be crawling. He kept playing with the toys at the Dr's office (ewww) waiting room today and crawling over to them and I felt like people were looking at him like "why is that 15 year old crawling"? He needs to start walking by October 13th when we leave for Disneyworld!!!

H has another ear infection! It's the same ear as a few weeks ago so I feel really bad, like maybe he's had it this whole time and I didn't see any signs of it. Hopefully it hasn't been too painful for him :( He's had very loose stools since Sunday too. He pooped in the tub earlier this week. It's was SO GROSS! Believe it or not DH cleaned it for me. I couldn't with this m/s. It's all I can do to change his diapers even these days.

Halloween-I'm thinking of making him a pirate. He'd make a cute one :) I love all the animal costumes but they are too hot for Texas.

Christmas-I want to get him that kitchen set that is a kitchen on one side and an outdoor grill on the other. It's really cool. He loves kitchens. I may also get him a shopping cart, play food, another puzzle, books, a dump truck or firetruck, clothes, maybe a swingset or table and chairs, a toybox, a lego table if I can find one that holds those Mega Bloks, DH jokes we should get him a play DustBuster because he's always picking stuff off the carpet and bringing it to us ;), I know there is a ton of other stuff but I can't think of it. I'll suggest the cheaper items to friends/family if they ask what to get him.

Hope our RO mommys are doing well! We didn't get pg this month, hopefully next month. DH has been a working/traveling machine, so I shouldn't be surprised, but I was hoping.

Halloween - I think DD will be a monkey as she says "ee-ee-ee" when I say she's my little monkey.

Christmas - I want to get her the "high-low" table from land of nod (http://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx?c=149&f=665&pc=9) for the playroom. It has a paper roll and 2 sets of legs to grow with her. That is the only thing I am set on. Maybe a little playhouse or swing set for outside.

I am loving that the Christmas outfits are coming out. They're all so cute.

She continues to be a picky eater, but I am doing the "Child of Mine" approach to get her used to new flavors. I am trying to resign myself to the fact that most kids become picky at this age. I am hoping that if I keep offering the new foods she'll be more likely to eat them when she's older.

Pink: My DS has been walking for a few months now, but just this week he's reverted back to crawling! We're not sure what's going on with that! No one probably even noticed at the Dr's office... You mentioned another ear infection...DS had maybe 3 ear infections during the first 12 months and at no time did he even act sick. The only way we knew the first time was b/c it was discovered at one of his well-baby check-ups (I know, bad mom!). Anyway, on to my point...after only 3 infections the ENT Dr said we needed tubes! I'm a first-time mom, what do I know? So, we had tubes put in... Like I said, he never really acted sick so I don't notice a difference with him. This may have been covered earlier, but I'm new to the thread has anyone else's DC had to have tubes yet? How was that experience?

Halloween: It's not even October yet, I can't begin to think about Halloween! Last year he was the cutest little purple dinosaur from Children's Place (and a lion, and a pea in a pod...I may have been overly excited)

Standrea: I love the Fairy picture. How does trick-or-treating work where you are? We do door-to-door here hitting neighbors, friends, and relatives. But that's a lot of in/out of the carseat and in/out of the cold so we have to find costumes that keep DS warm, yet allow us to strap him the car seat often...what a pain!

Christmas: Well, if I haven't given a Halloween costume a thought, it's a pretty good bet Christmas hasn't entered my mind yet! Maybe I'll get some great suggestions from you guys though?

Pink - Just wanted to say that it's "normal" for them not to walk until 18 months (and that would be "corrected" age if he was early). I'm sure no one thought twice about it at the dr. office! And that's so exciting that H is starting to walk some!

Halloween - DD will be the pink "Stuck on You" octopus from BabyStyle. I tried it on her this morning and it was awesome. She is completely obsessed w/ octopuses (yes, seriously) so when she saw herself, she started saying "octa! octa!" -- it was so funny.

Christmas - Since DD will be moving to a big girl room early next year, I am sure that her Christmas (and mine!) will be full of things for her new room. I know that I want to get her a table and chairs and a kitchen. She also needs furniture and bedding!!!

little table & chairs
play tunnel (Ikea)
kid's Nalgene bottle
books, books and more books!
PBK Anywhere Chair

You brave woman! You nearly just sent me into heart failure. I think finger painting would be so cute, but I know Abbie would have it EVERYWHERE.

Pink, sounds like H will be walking in no time. Maybe he's just waiting until he can show off for Mickey? Have fun at Disney!

Bloomwood, I agree that table looks great! I love that you can adjust it later too.

ironhair, no tubes here so I can't help you but I think its more common now. Mary's friend in daycare had them put in a while ago. It seemed like he always had an ear infection. Now I don't think he's had one since.

Standrea, I bought Mary the Crayola color wonder paint and markers that can only write on special color wonder paper. The stuff is clear until it hits the paper. She hasn't really been into it yet but the few times she has used it, it wasn't massy at all.

Halloween:, This year Mary will be a Redskins cheerleader and a fairy. The cheerleader outfit was really bought for this football season (but we don't take her to any of the games yet), but I think she could wear it for Halloween too. One party is held on game day so she'll wear it then. Then she also has a school party, and at night we'll go trick or treating. Last year I drove Mary to my parent's house and then to the inlaws, then home and we walked down the block to just a few of our neighbors houses. We'll do the same this year too.

Christmas:, We've already started buying her things here and there. Mostly more little people playsets for now. She'll be getting the family house, fire truck, dinosaur set, and a zoo set. I want to get her the nativity set too. They have one in the childrens room at church during the Christmas season and its so cute (they have the Thanksgiving one too). Then we'll be getting her a table and chair set. And lots of others things. She already has a kitchen she plays with but we keep it at my parents house for now. I know my MIL wants to get her a shopping cart, and I know my mom wants to get her a new tea set. I have a feeling she'll be getting a ton of stuff again this year!

My DS has an easel that we use with a smock and chalk. Getting him used to the smock, but chalk isn't messy at all.

I actually want to get this stuff for my older DD - but it didn't even occur to me what a disaster it could be if DS gets into it! Yikes! Well, I guess that's what she can do during naptime.

I haven't thought about Christmas/Chanukah gifts for him yet...he still doesn't really care. I think I need to get him some really BOY things - right now he plays with all my DD's girly stuff and has nothing of his own.

Hi Girls!

We are in the process of buying a new house, and getting this house ready to sell. I do not envy any of you that have done this before, especially with a toddler...It's impossible to keep things neat and organized. thankfully, Abbie still takes 2 naps!

Pink-CONGRATS! :)

It's amazing how quick I can do things. Abbie took an hour nap this morning, and I packed our bedroom up pretty much done. We'll have the last minute stuff the day that we move, but otherwise, count another room done. I'm so excited about that!

DD's Room-now that's another story. I never really put "baby" toys away, so I have to sort through everything, and get packing that way. I think I did myself a disservice when doing some things...

Pink- awesome!!

Standrea - there is NOTHING easy about moving. Even if you are the most organized person it just stinks. Good luck! It will all be worth it!

Update on us - ugh. DD was in the ER on Saturday with a temp of 104.8. She was dehydrated and had 2 bags of fluid. She still couldn't keep anything down, so we stayed the night in the ped ward where she had another bag over night. Now she has a rash, so it appears it was roseola. The worst part of the whole experience was the ER nurse trying to get the IV in a pudgy, dehydrated, 17-month old. It took 4 times and they finally got it in her foot. After the 3rd try I told them one more try or they're getting a ped nurse in there. She is still a little grump and pretty clingy. I don't blame her!

Bloomwood-Sorry to hear that. Poor baby.

H had some kid of bug or something last night. He projectile vomitted EVERYWHERE for 4 hours last night. He just laid around and couldn't even sit up to vomit. We had to force him. I don't know what happened. It was very scary to see him that way though. So far today he is fine. He is eating bananas, toast, cheese, Pedialyte, etc. and keeping it all down. No fever of anything. We leave on Sat. for Disneyworld so send me good vibes that it's really over!

karlatta-Yes we do! Maybe in November before Thanksgiving. We have so much going on this month. It's our favorite time of the year so we end up wanting to get out and do a lot with friend's and family and we have our anniversary, we usually take a vacation, etc. I hope cool weather is on it's way soon!

Thanks for the congrats on the walking. Just waiting for the little stinker to take off. When we tried on his Halloween costume in front of our friend's and their kids he was strutting around like nobody's business, walking, walking up and hugging people, etc. He looked so proud of himself. It was adorable.

Pink, yay for H walking! Hope he feels better today. poor baby:(

Bloomwood, Yuk! Mary had to go into the ER months ago because she just couldn't keep anything down either. I felt so bad for her. But she was a trooper and did very well. Hope M is feeling much better today!

Standrea, I still can't believe how fast the new house situation is moving for you. It's so exciting!

me, have another OB appointment today (8W)! Also, spent the day with Mary on Monday (since her day care was closed). I don't know how you SAHM's do it! She wore me out! But we did have a ton of fun running errands and going to the park. I was imagining that it must be like it would be if I were a SAHM. Although I'd probably throw in a few group activities as well. Anyway, bless you all who do it!

Bloomwood and Pink so sorry about the sickies!

We are heading out tonight for our first family vacation ever! We're going to Laguna beach - it's about a 7 hour drive so we're leaving around 7pm and spending the night in a hotel, and then finishing the drive tomorrow. I'm nervous about the drive and also having the kids share a room! But it should be a lot of fun.

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes.

Yesterday was TOUGH. Probably my hardest day in months. She was so clingy and grumpy. And, DH is traveling so I didn't even have him to bail me out. Today is already better she slept almost 13 hours straight and woke up happy.

shortcake - have so much fun! Sharing a hotel room is the hardest part of travel, I think. I can't imagine with two. Don't forget the dishwashing soap for their cups (I always do!).

shortcake-Have fun! We leave on Sat. for ours.

The longest car ride H has had is 8 hours and he did great. He mostly slept. As long as you stop every now and then to change them, let them stretch and refill their cups I am sure they will be fine! H was!

Forgot to add H is all better now!

Hi Gals!

We converted David's bed so now he can get in and out on his own. Advantage is that he doesnt wake me up screaming anymore which makes me a happy camper in the morning :D Getting him to stay in bed for naps is still a challenge although at bedtime he stays in without a problem.

Pink Congrats on H walking!!!

Wow Mrs. U! That's great. We are considereing doing abbie's soon after our move...she gets her leg up over the rail of her crib, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time before she is climbing out. My concern is that she'll just end up falling asleep on the floor, instead of her bed.

We made it back from our trip! It was great. The car ride went so well - we bought a DVD player for the ride and it was perfect. Actually, we ended up doing two 3.5-hour rides and staying in a hotel - mostly because on the way down we decided to leave the night before to get there earlier the next day, and on the way back we ended up leaving the night before also because there was a huge accident and I-5 was closed, so we weren't sure how the drive would be and were worried it could be more like 9 hours. It actually was fine though. Also both kids slept in a room together like champs - that was something we'd been really nervous about.

Wow, I can't believe some of your kids are starting to climb out!! I hope Josh doesn't do that soon. Not ready for him to be in a bed.

MrsU: I was actually going to ask that question today - when any of you were converting your cribs or moving DC into a real bed. #2 will be here in May and DH and I are trying to decide if we should buy another crib or transition DS into a twin bed - he seems too little yet to be in a big bed!

karlatta
10-17-2007, 08:34 AM
CribBed - We are planning to switch DS over to a twin bed in December. I want to do it when my DH is around for bedtime in case we have a lot of problems, so my only options are December and May. I don't want to wait until May, because I'm pretty sure that by then he'll be catapulting himself out of the crib, so December it is!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We're doing okay around here. M has been really sick. He ran a fever of between 103-104 for about three days earlier this week. After blood tests and a urinalysis, they can't figure out what was going on. But it's broken now, so I guess that's okay. Although I didn't like holding him down so they could take his blood. Not the highlight of my week.
I know it sounds funny, but DD still has never slept in her crib by herself, with the rail up. :eek: She just never did it and I wasn't comfortable with CIO. So we took the railing off of her crib and strapped the crib to our bed. She's been sleeping alone in her crib for all of her naps, but has the ability to crawl out and onto the bed by herself. She just doesn't until she's ready to get up. Sometimes she'll wake up, change positions, and go back to sleep, without getting out of her crib.
So I'm sure a toddler bed would work for some of you, depending on the personalities. ;)
Mrs. U, just saw you in the June 08 mommies thread. Congrats!
crib/bed, DD shows no signs of climbing out of her crib...yet. She does already have a twin size bed in her room so when the time comes we will just transition her to that bed. Even with #2 on the way, I think we'll wait and see what DD does. #2 won't even need the crib for a couple of months anyway (DD slept in a bassinet in our bedroom until she was about 5 months old). I don't plan on letting DD sleep in her crib as a toddler bed, unless the transition to the twin bed doesn't go well, because we'll need to use the crib again as a crib. Really, we'll just figure it out when we get there. :)
Congrats Mrs. U!!
So, someone gave me a good tip yesterday. They said, if your DC is about to climb out of their crib(Or already are), and you have a crib with a higher back, then flip it around, so the shorter side is at the wall, and the higher side is facing out. It's more of a pain in the but to get them in and out, but it will keep them in! I think I'm giong to try this.
Standrea - that's a great tip!
DD was in her crib till she was (almost) 3, and it was heaven! And then when we moved her into a big girl bed (we went straight to a twin with a rail) she STILL didn't realize she could get out on her own for many months, LOL! You definitely lose some security when you put them in a big bed and if you can wait, it's nice.
One other tip I've heard if you do switch them - make sure their room is baby proof and then put a gate up on their door at night so you don't find them wandering out the front door carrying a kitchen knife and lit matches. :) (Ok that last part was a joke but the gate is nice for peace of mind).
