Is there a website or anything you can access to see who owns a particular property or if the property has been condemned, repossessed, etc? There's a home down the road from us that is quite obviously abandoned. The yard is overgrown, no people in or out, etc. Curiosity is starting to get to me. I've searched MLS for it and came up with nothing. I've also tried searching the state and local websites for property searches. The only thing I've retrieved is for locating your own property/money that is missing. Is there a way to access such information or am I out of luck? I'm in TX if that helps any.

You can find this information out from your county Auditor (or comparable position). I'm not sure that they all have websites, but I'm sure you could call and ask who owns it. If it's a foreclosure, you'd be able to tell by the owner information.

If you go to your county assessor's website, there should be a property search. Most counties have them.

If not, jennylou's advise to call is what I would do.

I know Maryland has a free on-line database with all the property owners, size of lot, yr. home was built, amount paid, assessed taxes, etc. I tried to google "Texas Real Property Database" and got the following:

Texas Land Records (https://www.texaslandrecords.com/txlr/TxlrApp/index.jsp)

Texas Public Record Search (http://www.publicrecordfinder.com/states/texas.html)

I didn't try to use them, though.

Depends what county you are in. In Bexar county you can look it up via the appraisal district's website. If you do live in BC the website is www.bcad.org. If not, maybe they have outside links.

In our city, we use the city assessor's website.

Thank you! I was able to find the information I was looking for on the county's appraisal district's website. I appreciate all the help! Looks like an individual (as opposed to a bank) owns it. I'm still wondering why no one lives there, but at least I know the status. Thanks again!
