Did anyone watch Miss universe tonight? I was really surprised at the outcome - Miss Japan won.
I was also surprised that Miss Angola and/or India was not in the top 5 and probably even more stunned that even after Miss USA fell on her ASS that they let her in the top 5 only to place her 4th runner up! I would have thought that if she made it that far she would have gone a bit farther then 4th - Somehow I also thought the Trump organization would exploit her connection to Oprah!

I saw when she fell. I was flipping through the channels and POW! I felt bad for her. I also saw that it seemed she was being booed when asked her question by the judge?
I didn't think Japan answered her question well, but I only watched all of five minutes of the entire thing, so I am not sure who deserved to win.

i watched last night. i was definitely surprised USA made it through the top 5 - i also thought it was quite rude of the Mexican crowd to boo her and shout 'mexico' while she was being asked her question.
i like that Japan won - she carried herself quite well through the whole show. I did think that Brazil answered the last question the best from all of them in the top 5.

I watched most of it but missed the ending. I was shocked that Ms. USA made it to the final 5 after she fell. Made me feel cynical about the whole thing - maybe that's why I changed channels.
I'm surprised that Ms. Japan won. I thought it was going to be Brazil.
I'm not surprised that Ms. Angola didn't make top 5. She is stunning and seemed articulate but I just knew that with her shaven hair, they won't pick her.

I missed the show. I saw the very beginning when they introduced themselves and then fell asleep. Dang!! It seems like it might have been a pretty decent show. So Miss Japan won? Hmmm, maybe there are some clips on YouTube.
Amaye, I remember seeing Miss Angola and thinking how beautiful she was. DH said right off the top that there was no way she could win b/c of her hair. Then we had a 5 minute discussion about standards of beauty around the world and how she may be very beautiful, appealing and attractive in her part of the world, but in many others, maybe not. Sorry to get OT. Just thought that was interesting you mentioned that and DH and I talked about it too. :)

I like Miss Japan. She seemed spunky and a little out of the mold. Her evening gown was atypical, she added some pizazz to her walk, etc. I thought she had the best answer.
Miss Angola was beautiful, I thought it was great that she got into final 10 with a shaven head. Certainly unusual for pagents.
I couldn't believe Miss USA fell on her rear! I've never see that happen before - a stumble, yes, but a full on fall!!

Its pretty funny because as soon as I turned it on, DH called out from the other room Ms. Brazil is going to win! (he was close)
Then he came and watched with me and chose Brazil, Korea, and Venezuela as top three. Not bad I think he's got a pretty good pageant eye LOL
But did anyone else think they all looked the same!??! It was almost hard to tell them apart because they all had the same look?
eta: despite the fall, I think Miss USA pulled it together pretty well and bounced back. She gave a little giggle, an eye wink, and kept on going. You have to have a sense of humour when soemthing like that happens. Poor thing.

Tanzania was actually the one with the shaven head. i remember thinking she wouldnt win for the same reason. she was beautiful but she walked kinda funny!

Watched last night (of course). It's interesting because I was telling someone that USA had a good chance this year, for the first time in years. I say this because we've had very short contestants recently but this year she is beautiful, tall, and incredibly bright. Plus, Oprah (gag, but it helped her win). And then she fell on her cute, tall, perky butt.
Mexico was booing because Miss USA made the final 5 and Mexico did not (even though Mexico was not cute and was awful in the evening gown competition). My husband thinks it's because we beat Mexico in the World Cup 5 years ago 2-0. Mainly I thought they were mad she was there and not Mexico.
Tanzania was beautiful. Angola was as well. Overall I was happy with Japan, and with any of the final 10. They were very nice looking women, not stick thin, and intelligent. I think Venezuela may have been the most beautiful.
Did anyone hear about the protests? Sweden dropped out because in their country they no longer require the swimsuit competition. And Jamaica had the first contestant with dreadlocks this year.

I saw Ms. Jamaica's locks...boy were they super, super long..a really pretty girl. Like others, I don't know how Ms. USA ended up in the top 5. Dh and I were watching and if I'm not mistaken, based on the points, she did not score high enough to make the top 5...
Japan was impressive throughout the night, she had that spunk about her....

My mother and I picked 8 out of 10 of the semi-finalists and then 3 out of 5 of the finalists.
Ya know, I told my mother they were booing USA and she kept saying no. I knew I heard booing - that was sad but i can understand that they felt someone who fell on her ASS should not be in the top 5 - sorry I feel that way too.

Didn't hear about the protests. Were people protesting b/c Miss Jamaica had dreadlocks? I did a search to find out more info and the only thing I could find was one or two of the same articles rehashed by the same news sources, but neither of them mentioned protests.
Just curious.

I checked out Miss USA's spill on YouTube. She did recover pretty quickly and quite well. Goodness, it wasn't a little trip or slip, it was an all out fall. I think I would have wanted to just crawl under a rock and disappear. ;)

Sorry, Adaya. The protests were by the Miss Sweden organization. They wanted no part of the swimsuit competition and (from what I read) said they will drop if she is required to participate. It was a big deal because Miss Sweden has been very successful in the competition.
No one protested against Miss Jamaica. She was just the first contestant ever with dreadlocks.
I'm surprised Miss USA did not burst into tears after the fall.
