Last year we had a Luau and roasted a pig. It was really good! If you've ever had it, you know what I mean!!
However, I think some people might have been a bit turned off or afraid to try it. I had put out sauces to make sandwiches but I don't think that cut it.
This year I want to put some of the pork directly into BBQ sauce and people can scoop it out.

BUT, I want a killer, tried and true BBQ sauce recipe rather than using bottled.

Please post if you have one you love. Any difficulty is fine.
TIA!

A luau sounds like so much fun! I've made Barefoot Contessa's recipe a few times and it's quite good. There are a ton of ingredients though which is why I don't make it all that often--it has some stuff that I don't always have on hand. I think if you look on Food Network you can probably find it. I also love Tyler Florence's recipes, he probably has an "ultimate" BBQ since that's his thing. I personally haven't tried it, but I would bet it's probably good. Let me see if I can find anything.

Tyler's utimate BBQ ribs (he also has BBQ chicken which probably has a slightly different sauce:

Barefoot contessa (chicken) (this is the one I've tried):

Here is mine tried and true BBQ sauce:

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 onion , minced
4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 cup root beer
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup tomato paste
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown mustard
1 tablespoon hot sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)

Heat oil in saucepan over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Whisk in remaining ingredients, except for liquid smoke, and bring to boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until mixture is thick and has reduced to 4 cups, about 1 hour. Stir in liquid smoke, if using.

I love this recipe from Dinosaur BBQ. We used to go there all the time upstate in college:
