We're going to be in Toronto in September over our 1 year anniversary, and we want to go out to a nice restaurant for dinner. Unfortunately the TWO different guidebooks I got aren't being much help, as all their 'nice' and even some restaurants they're calling 'casual' are $100-$200+ for 2 people. I'm looking at maybe $75-$100 tops (and even that will be the most I've ever spent on a meal) but we want a place that we can dress up (at least I do!) Neither one of us likes seafood or Oriental food... really we're not 'foodies' so nothing too adventurous. Bonus points if it's Italian, my fave. We're staying on the Harbourfront. Even though the trip isn't until September, it'll be during the Toronto Film Festival, so we'd like to get reservations made sooner rather than later.

It's been way too long since I've visited Toronto, so I don't have specific recommendations. But I attended college not too far away, so my then-boyfriend and I would spend lots of time there. And being college students, we didn't have a lot of money, so when we had a special occasion, we usually headed to one of the restaurants near the theaters because they usually had reasonably priced prix fixe menus.

Here's just a couple I found online near the King Street West theaters that might fit the bill and got a few really good online reviews:

Like I said, try searching around the theaters. Good luck and a very, very early happy anniversary!

P.S. If it helps, I'll hope the conversion rate between US and Canadian dollars sways in your favor in September ;)

We have eaten at Canoe, Elephant and castel, there is also an east side marios near the Air Canada centre, Jack Astors is about a block away from that.

I will try and think of more.

Little Italy is always great for food! There are tonnes of Italian restaurants and fun bars (College - west)

There is a fabulous restaurant down there (blanking on the name now) but really any restaurant along College once you get into Little Italy is great. PM me if you want more details. I live downtown. :)

There is a really good Italian restaurant in Little Italy called Vecchio Frak (http://www.vecchiofrak.com/). I went there a few months ago and everyone I was with really loved the food. It's nice but reasonably priced too and you can totally dress up if you'd like to.
