We have a wonderful coffeemaker that I love (the Krups grind & brew). However, it is white and even though I clean it every time I use it, areas that are regularly splashed with coffee just aren't as bright white as the rest of the machine.

Does anyone have any good tips for getting the coffeemaker & pot really clean and getting rid of coffee stains?

Considering it's plastic, I'd probably try the magic eraser

I've never heard of the Magic Eraser-- just had to Google it. Does it really work? Has anyone out there tried it on coffeepots? It won't scratch?

It's definitely worth a try. I'd test it out on an inconspicuous area first, to be sure - but it would definitely get the stains out. I just don't want to say with 100% certainty that it won't scratch. But definitely worth a try.

RB, Try lemon or vinegar.

The Magic Eraser is amazing. Go buy one, even if you don't use it on the coffeemaker.

You might also try one of the oxygen-based bleach cleaners (Oxy-clean, etc). Basically they eat up stuff that's organic (like coffee) and leave the other stuff (like plastic) aline. Careful, though, they do like to munch on some kinds of metal. Stainless is fine.

The standard thing for cleaning coffee-makers is vinegar, but that's meant to get hard water stains off, not coffee stains.

It's also helpful to run a cycle with just white vinegar -- it helps clean out the gunk that can accumulate in the workings of the pot. Then run a few cycles of plain water to clean out the vinegar taste.

That doesn't help the white/not white issue, but it is part of coffee pot maintenance!
