Okay, maybe it's just b/c I am getting up there in years, but it seems that the older I get, the longer my PMS symtoms last!
I get bloated about 10 days before AF. This is almost 1/3 of my cycle! In my early 20's I either had little/no PMS, or just had symptoms for about 2-4 days pre AF.

Crap...now you've scared me.
I don't really get any symptoms. The day of AF, I usually have some light cramps. However, before I was on BCP, I had major cramps, usually at night and I couldn't sleep.

When i was on the pill, it was like i never got AF, it was so light, no cramps nothing. I have been off the pill now for about 1.5 years. 2 days before I get Af, i am so sensitive and emotional, 1 day before i get upset, mad, angry, over stupid things of course. LIke clockwork every month.

Here are my typical symptoms in order:
1. Become very hungry. I just keep eating and I am still hungry, UGH!
2. Become very emotional, depressed and I usually cry at least once or twice over something that would not normally make me cry.
3. I get a terrible headache and my body is achy.
4. Cramps, UGHHHHHHHHHHH.

I feel your pain. I pretty much have one week a month totally free of PMS symptoms. The degree of symptoms varies, but I usually start getting irratible or weepy about a week before, crampy and headaches and bloating a couple days before, then headaches sometimes migraines and emotional ups and downs for 3-5 days after. Blech.

I'm on a three-month pill cycle because of my awful symptoms. Pre-pill, I was menstruating heavily for about 15 days, with about 6 days prior of cramping/bloating/migraines/nausea, and about 3 days after of listlissness/general yuckiness. Add all that up and you'll notice there were very few good days in a month.
Now after 7 years on the pill, it's condensed to about 3 days of pre-pain, 7 days of menstruating, and 2 days of post-yuckiness.

My moodiness lasts 365 :)
Seriously, I can sense the shift in my moods exactly 1 week before.
I only get cramps on day #1

Same for me, but add:
3. My IBS w/ constipation is not manageable about a week before my period as well as the week of 'ovulation'. It's weird that I've been on the pill sense like 1998, but I still get PMS in the middle of my cycle when I would O.
~with the eating, I can't get enough salt, which makes me more bloated and uncomfortable w/ the IBSC. However, I also crave sweets, which is weird b/c I really hardly ever want sweets.
I never had PMS growing up even pre-BCP except for constipation. I went on BCP, b/c my cycles were really out of whack, but I still never got PMS. In grad school (on a BCPill), I actually got sick cramps every couple of months, which was my first time ever. The other 2 PMS symptoms that I get now are definitely more and worse that I am on the NuvaRing, but these annoying things aren't worth not having the ease of the ring so I guess I can't say much.

My symptoms come and go throughout the week before AF but DH would probably say I have symptoms for appx 30 days!! ha ha :p
Usually about 6 days before I am extremely irritable then about 4 days before I'm sweet as pie (drives DH crazy) - I get bloated about 2 days before then have terrible cramps on days 1 and 2 which makes me a very unhappy camper.
I think my PMS has always been this way - but as I've gotten older my tolerance has definitely gotten worse ;)

Isn't this wierd? I've been on BC for the same amount of time, and I still feel a bit of cramping in my ovaries (I'm guessing here, but I think so) about half way through my cycle. It is so wierd! And sort of scary, considering the fact that BC is supposed to prevent ovulation. I can't say I get moody or anything, but definately crampy (usually the pinching feeling and then a sore lower back for a day or two). I know this is off topic, but can anyone explain?
And to answer the OP's question :o I'm 24 and on BC. The first sign for me is HUNGER! I'll start eating more than usual sometimes 2-3 days before I pull out the ring (Sunday). Usually I'll start to feel yucky - sort sour/dried out feeling (personality and physically!) on Sunday or Monday, then crampy and grumpy through Wednesday, then just tired, hungry, gassy, and crampy from Wed - Friday, then tired, then by Sunday I'm back to normal. The joys of womanhood
