I'm talking a real prize, gift, etc. (Not like $5 on a lottery scratch ticket or one of those wedding scams, that we all win...) What was it? How did you win?

About 10 years ago, I won Hootie and the Blowfish concert tickets. I was caller 10 or something and won the last pair of tickets off the radio. And I won a free car rental at a seminar I went to, but I was too young to rent a car. But that's it for my luck!

I win on the radio all the time. I usually get concert tickets or CDs. I've won at the casino also.

I won a trip for two to New Orleans to meet and see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in concert from a radio station. They also put us up in a pretty swank hotel. It was really cool!

When I was younger I used to win all kinds of drawings for things like gift certificates, but that luck ran out a long time ago. Oh, and when I was in 3rd grade I won a writing contest. I think the prize was $25. Woo hoo!

I think I've been pretty lucky... in HS I won $100 and a freshwater pearl necklace during a BINGO game on a cruise ship. In college I won concert tickets to see REM and also to see the Black Crowes & ZZ Top. We got to go backstage to meet the Black Crowes. I won a free pizza by knowing the address to the Munsters house (1313 Mockingbird Lane). :) Oh, and I also won a version of The Dating Game that I played in my college dorm.

Another radio winner here - I won a trip to the Grammy's a few years ago. It was a very live show and when you get a little drunk before hand - it makes it an even longer show!

I indeed have:

I won ten bucks in a drawing contest our local paper had. I was 15.

They called it "The Mung Contest" -- you had to create a person, place or thing out of a triangle.

I won for my depiction of a "Mungalow".:)

I also won two tix to a Broadway play that a local radio station (now defunct) sponsored. "Valentines To Broadway" was the name of the contest -- you submitted a greeting card for Valentine's Day -- mine was a card in the shape of a cube.

Twice I've won a prize for selecting five numbers out of six in the NJ Pick 6 Lotto. The first time, I won $1300; the second time the amount was a bit over $1400.

My family and friends think I have a horseshoe up my butt or something. :D I have been winning stuff as long as I can remember:

Tons of concert tickets (off of the radio)

Movie Premier passes (off of the radio) (X-Men 2, Sin City, a bunch of others)

Six night, seven day stay in Laughlin, Nevada at Harrah's Casino and tickets to the rodeo being held there. (I was the Grand Prize winner drawn during a radio contest, I had to win an earlier contest to qualify)

Two round trip tickets anywhere AirTran Airways flys (just won these a few months ago, about a month before our wedding!)

Tickets to the circus

Tickets to the Nutcracker

$500 in a progressive Bingo game (my biggest 'jackpot while living in Vegas. The kicker is if I had hit the bingo in two numbers less, it would have been worth $88,000!!  After I won in the bingo hall, I went outside and put $5 in nickel slot machine and won another $80)

Four five-day passes to Disneyland in California. (off of the radio)

$250 on a Mega Millions ticket

About 10 years ago I won Bush concert tickets (at the Mayan Theatre) off the radio station KROQ by being caller #20. Also scored a cd, tshirt, some stickers, and other random souveniers. That was pretty cool, I was totally stoked about it. The only downside was I had to get a friend to drive me to Burbank to the studio to pick everything up (I was 17 and didn't have my license yet).

I also won $500 in video Keno at Stateline on the way home from Vegas a few years ago, playing with about $5 in quarters. That was nice and completely unexpected. I'm not a gambler, I've been known to stick to the nickel slots for hours because I don't want to lose money, and I *know* I'll lose. :)

At a roller hockey game several years back, I was sitting in the winning seat that was called out and got to pick out a new set of wheels for my rollerblades plus some of the home team's gear (tshirt, stickers, roller hockey puck) which I gave to some local boys b/c I was there to see the away team play.

At a Ducks game I was in yet another winning seat and got a bag full of Mighty Ducks loot which I promptly handed over to my Duck-loving mom to sort thru. (P.S. I *hate* the Ducks!!)

I also scored (but not quite won) tickets to a movie b/c a friend and I were attending a preview of Pirates of the Caribbean and the theatre got filled before we made it to the front of the line (there were 5 people ahead of us) so we got to pick whatever movie we wanted to see and whatever concessions we wanted for free. I always enjoy a free movie!!

I've won a lot!

When I was 11 I won A YEAR'S SUPPLY OF LIFESAVERS!! On the back of an Archie comic book was a contest where you had to write in and tell them why lifesavers was your favorite candy. It wasn't mine, and I have no clue what I wrote, but I actually won. A "Year's supply of lifesavers and lollipops" anded up being 20 boxes (one box of each flavor) with 20 rolls in each, and 12 boxes of the lollipops, with 12 lollipops in each. I even was in the newspaper because of it, a photo of me sitting on my living room floor, holding the lollipops in my hands, with the rolls all spread around me. :) :D

Then the very next year when I was 12, I won a trip to Shawnee-on-the-Delaware. A 3-4 day 2-3 night (can't remember now) trip for 3 (I guess the person who won and their parents, but since mine were divorced I took my mom and sister) We had stopped at burger king and I filled out the form there. We got to stay at the condo there, and we got $150 spending money. I remember the condo was a 2 br place, the upstairs had it's own bedroom, and since I was the winner I got that room!! My mom and sister shared the downstairs room. That was awesome. We went horseback riding, went to the theme park, and other stuff that I can't remmeber now. It was really cool.

When I was 19 I was playing the radio station game, where you had to listen to clues, and find the "96krock money maniac" somewhere in town. When you thought you had the right place, you had to ask that person exactly this "Are you the 96krock money maniac?" and if it was the right person, you win up to $1500!!!!! Well this one day, I was driving home (in the next town over) when I figured it HAD to be at Toys'R'us, 30+ minutes away. I called my boyfriend, told him to meet me there right away. He wouldn't (jerk, I should have broken up with him just for that) and he was only 5 mins from there. So anyway I went, and was asking everybody in the freaking store if they were the 96krock money maniac. When it seemed the store was being flooded by more and more people, we began asking each other multiple times if we were the 96krock money maniac. I KNEW I Was in the right place, so I decided to comb the parking lot. So I went out the front doors, and there was the woman walking in, with a man excitedly walking RIGHT behind her. I called out to her first, "Are you the 96krock money maniac?" And she looked surprised, but said yes!! You should have seen the look on the guy's face right behind her, who followed her all the way across the parking lot!! So she took me inside to the pay phone, with people asking us if we were the 96krock money maniac, and I had to tell them I already found her, the whole group followed us to the pay phone. (yes, this was before cell phones) We called the station, and I got to tell her to "GIVE ME THE MONEY!" And she started counting it out to me $20-40-60-80-100!!!! And the DJ said "Tell her to give you some more money!" So I did, and she kept counting $110-120-130-140 MORE MONEY!! $150. That was it. I could have won between $100 and $1,500, and I only won $150. Hey, whatever! I'll take it!!! It was so fun and so exciting!!!! :)

And what did I do with that money? Took my stupid boyfriend out for his birthday IN A LIMO to a fancy restaurant. But hey, that was fun too. :)

When I was 22 I won tickets to an Ozzy concert in Miami, but I gave them to my friend, and I stayed home and stole her boyfriend that night. Hey, obviously he liked me better; we were together for 2 years after that.

Then about a year and a half ago I won a 50 CD "brick" from the local Christian radio station. That was another fun story but I'll spare you all the details and just tell you that was fun as well. :)

When I was in elementary and high school, I won a bunch of essay contests and read-a-thons, resulting in $1500 in savings bonds and a cool for 1985 Casio keyboard. Being a nerd was remarkably prolific for me.

In 1990, I announced the number one song on z-100's "Hot Five At Nine" (it was the Ninja Turtle Rap), and they sent me a box of five cassette tapes. Woo-hee!

I won a ski trip for 2 to Whistler in British Columbia. Airfare, hotel, ski passes, the whole she-bang. My husband and I went, and neither one of us skis. So we pretty much just went clubbing and shopping. One day we did go snowmobiling though. :D

Entering sweepstakes is a hobby of mine so I have won quite a few small prizes in the last year. My biggest prize so far was won last December, $5,000 trip to Nashville to see the Titans play. They flew my Dh, me, my DS, and two of our friends. Put us up in 2 Suites and gave us $300 to spend, took us to see the Titans play etc... it was awesome!
In the last 2 years I have also won:
year supply of Brawny paper towels
year supply of Clorox cleaning supplies
a really nice fishing set
2 DVD movies
3 CDs
a huge basket of Caress soap products
books
magazine subscriptions
lots of cosmetic products
a huge Aveeno products basket
$100 gift certificate to REI

I enter everything I can. If I'm entering a contest in the grocery store, I follow a tip I saw on a tv show once. I fold my paper in an unusual way with at least one bendy corner. Its easier for them to grab. I've never tried it, but I was told to attach a very bright blank post it note to draw slips. It attracts the eye subconticously(sp) so they choose your entry. Radio contests I speed dial and never stop calling until they answer or I here someone that has won. If I can think of more tips, I'll let you know.

Well, with internet contests (which I have won a few times), I don't think there is anything you can do to improve your odds. It is just luck. Unless (and this applies to any kind of contest) you are allowed to enter an unlimited amount of times!! In that case, enter as many times as you can before the deadline! Every entry improves your odds of being selected, right? Here's an example: Redbook Magazine has giveaways in every issue, multiple prizes. In their case, you may enter by mail and internet. So, what you would do would be to bombard them with entries over and over until the contest deadline!! (www.redbookmag.com)

I keep my favorite radio station phone number saved in my cell phone. When it's contest time, I just keep hitting 'send' and 'end' over and over.

About 7 years ago I won a limo ride and 4 front row penguins tickets to a playoff game and dinner at a local sports bar. They had a booth set up in front of the sports bar and they called my name. This was the only thing I have ever won and I probably will never win anything again. I try and try for radio station stuff but I never win anything.

I've won several things from radio contests (the kind where you have to be caller #___). 3 months of free Internet access, $50 gift card to Staples...those are the biggest ones, I think. My mom once won a drawing for a large framed print. Seems like she also won one of those huge stuffed animals for my little sister at one point, but gave it away because she (Mom) didn't want something that huge - she'd registered in hopes of winning a different prize. :)

Ooh, Eta that I won a coloring contest when I was eight. I won a trip for my family to Wildlife Safari and it was so cool.

When I was a little girl I won a "Barbie" contest. You had to draw an outfit on a Barbie and I was one of the winners. Sad though, I didn't do it, my very artistic sister did. Yeah, I know it was cheating, and it was her idea, since I knew darn well I couldn't draw! But, I still got the prizes which included a huge Barbie house, my name and picture and the picture that was drawn in the magazine and a years subscription. Oh, and they did actually make the dress from the pictures.
Thats about it for my winnings. $50 at bingo isn't much to brag about, but I'll never forget it! :D

I used to win stuff from radio call ins all the time when I was younger. My favorite.....4 Big Macs from MacDonalds for calling in and singing the "Big Mac" song when I was 9 (even though I didn't eat Big Macs). :o

ETA: My cousin won a car by being the however many customer to walk in the door that day. It happened like last year. I want to say it was a Mazda or Kia something but I can't remember. She had to pay the taxes on it but it sure beats having to pay for the whole car.

I won a book in a raffle once.

Also, when I was a little girl, I did this Easter Egg Scramble thing where there were a bunch of eggs in a pen and kids ran around grabbing eggs. Inside some were slips for prizes. Well, all the other kids ran straight for the center of the pen, but I stayed on the edges and picked up like triple the eggs. In the end, I won about 10 stuffed animals of various sizes. I still remember the dirty look another little girl gave me who only won a toy car! :p

and i also won a $5 coupon for ice cream in college by answering a trivia question in a contest run by the class officers during graduation week.

I've won concert tickets, CD's, and stuff like that. A few month ago I won $1000 for being the 9th caller when the cow mooed from the local radio station. It was way cool!

A coworker/friend of mine in HS won a car under the cap of a Coke bottle top. The game had expired the week before. How's that for luck.

Myself....I just won movie tickets, but that's about as exciting as it gets for me.

The only thing I've ever won was $1600 on the slot machines in Lake Tahoe this past weekend when I got married..... Never anything else

I won about $250 playing Caribbean stud poker at the Venetian in Las Vegas a couple of years ago. Total dumb luck.

I just recently won $300 worth of laser hair removal! Though LHR is really expensive, so I wonder how much it will cover.

I won a big bag of gift certificates in a raffle once. That was awesome. I did all my Christmas shopping that year. Then I found out some stores would even give me cash back!

A couple years ago, we won concert tickets to some Coca Cola festival. It was invitation only though so everyone there was a winner basically. It was one of those deals where you call the number on the coke can and give them the code on the bottom. So now I ALWAYS do those contests.

My inlaws won $10,000 once in the lottery!!!

I win stuff on the radio quite a bit like concert and sports tickets. I also won $500 in an internet contest. It was some kind of daily drawing and I was one of the daily winners.

eta: Oh forgot about my winnings in the lottery, scratch-offs and a little gambling here and there.

For afterprom, they had a drawing and people were winning things like $500, a mini fridge, a diamond ring, etc. I won a ticket for a free oil change that was expired. Go me.

I think my biggest win was a Budweiser rolling cooler that I won from the restaurant I worked at. When DS was waking up in the middle of the night when he was a baby, I got myself addicted to online instant win games. Through those, I've won tickets to a movie I never went to see, a Tide to Go pen, A 5 pack of Stoner Car Wash products, a golf shoe bag, a Bacardi t-shirt and napkins, a garnier fructis highlight kit, a $10 Shell gas gift card, 2 free packs of keebler cookies, and some other random things.

One of the guys at Dh's job won a million dollars from Iwon.com.

I was on a winning streak in elementary school. In various raffles and contests, I won a yo-yo, a massive gingerbread house and a bike reflector. I remember those because when you're a kid, it's so cool to win anything! As a teenager and young adult I won various little things here and there (a Carly Simon record on a radio call in contest, Billy Idol concert tickets, passes to an amusement park) but then hit a dry spell for a long time. Then last year, I won a $250 gift card to an electronics store (Circuit City maybe?) in a charity auction. It is cool to win the things but I sort of feel like I used up all my good luck on some piddly prizes. Maybe fate should have kept the yo-yo and the bike reflector and given me a comfy Lotto jackpot instead. :D

Seven or eight years ago, I hit the jackpot on the Triple Diamonds slot machine in Vegas for $850.00. Paid for my hotel/airfare.

Now every time I play the slots, I expect to hit the jackpot. Unfortunately, history hasn't repeated itself.

Oh, and I hit TWO (almost three) trifectas a few weeks ago at the track. The third ended in a photo finish, and the outcome didn't go my way. I only won around $180.00 combined, though I would've won a LOT more if the third trifecta had gone my way.

We've won a good deal of money at the track (Arlington), we've hit the scratch off lottery tickets for $25 here and there, um - I can't think of anything else, really.

When I was like 6 or 7 I won a Spiral-graph (remember those! :D ) from the Burger King Kids Club.

I just recently won concert tickets off of our local rap station but I didn't go b/c my BF had to work...

Nothing too big.

But my Economics teacher when I was a senior in HS won over $10,000 worth of cash and prizes when he lived in NCarolina. He owned his own video rental store and listened to radio stations in the store and just always won when they had contests.

You guys have won some really cool and fun things!!

When I was 11 I won a year's supply of Lifesavers (320 rolls of lifesavers and 144 lifesaver lollipops) by writing "Why lifesavers are your favorite candy" found on the back of an Archie Comic book!! no one helped me with any of it, I just decided to do it, and then won!

When I was 12 or 13 I filled out a ticket at a Burger King or something for a free vacation, and I won that as well. It was for 3 people, I took my mom and sister, we got 3 nights at their condos (at Shawnee on the Delaware), free entrance to Shawnee Place, and $150 in spending money. That was awesome!

When I was 19 I found "The 96 K-Rock Money Maniac" and won $150 cash, that was exciting! Could have been up to $1000, but hey $150 was great for me!

In my 20's I won tickets to see Ozzy in concert, but I gave them to my roommate and her boyfriend, they were much more gung ho about Ozzy than I was.

4 years ago I won a drawing at the local Christian radio station and won a "brick of CD's" which had 50 CD's in it! That was awesome!

6 months ago I won a drawing and got a portable radio/CD player/tape player. I've never had my own CD Player before! Wait that's not true, I had one for a little while but it was old and the switch had a short in it and it would just turn off all the time.

I'm a sweepstakes freak (although I do take off time for good behavior!) I've won a few smallish prizes - a bath/shower pack from Calgon and some American Beauty products. It was probably through Lucky or Redbook or something similar.

I'm holding out for one of those week-long, spa packages!!! :D

My father is always winning things at conventions, including an ipod shuffle, several TVs, a discman, and other electronics. My mother won a $250 gift cert to a really good seafood restaurant. I won a stuffed bear and an essay contest ("My Mom for President" in second grade).

In my teens, I was the radio contest queen. I won money, tickets to movies, and even won my mom a spa package with an essay I wrote about her for Mother's Day. But the funniest thing I ever won was in the McDonald's Monopoly game. When I peeled off the sticker, I had to read the prize a couple of times to really believe it. I won free french fries for a year! I was laughing so much and had to call everyone I knew to tell them. They sent me 365 little cards that looked like Monopoly cards, each one for a free med. fry. I gave them out to all my friends and family. It was just my luck that me, someone who shouldn't be eating french fries, won them for a year!

When I was in 5th grade I won the writing contest for what "fire protection week means to me". I got to be chief for a day and went to all the local fire stations and got to ride around with the firemen all day (didn't go to any fires).

Lately I have been getting in on giveaway sweepstakes but its for about 500-1000 people so its not like I am just winning. Those are mainly for beauty products.

I won $500 worth of camping gear on "The Price is Right" (and then lost a car).

I've won t-shirts and concert tickets from radio station contests. My husband wins tickets and CDs all the time-- he's really good at winning radio station stuff. Oh, and I once won $80 in the lottery.

When I was about 8 I won a BMX bike at a concert. I was too scared to go up on the stage though so my sister went and my mom let her have the bike! I guess I was painfully shy at that age.

I also won a Father's day contest at JC Penny where I wrote an essay about my dad and he got a gidt certificate for a couple hundred bucks or maybe it was only $50.

DH won a tv at his grad night. It only lasted a couple years though.

I won tickets through a radio station contest as a teen (had to BREAK something over the air, so I smashed a plastic pencil case with a hammer!) and the tickets were to see Young MC and Milli Vanilli in concert!

Also recently, DH and I won a 3 night stay at the Stardust Hotel in Vegas in a raffle during his companys Christmas party.

About 3 years ago, I won a Mercedes from a radio station. All I did was call in for the right song one day which won me tickets to this party where everyone's names were put back into a drawing and I ended up winning the Grand Prize!!! It was the luckiest thing that's ever happenned to me and I can't imagine ever winning anything that big again so I don't even bother with contests anymore. I think I've hit my lucky quota already.

Dh and I won a tv a couple years ago from his company xmas party, but I came in 2nd place TWICE in bingo. First time was about $300 for winner, and I think the second was around $100.

I won a copy of The Little Mermaid in a coloring contest when I was 9 or 10. The contest was held by a local video store. The cutoff age was 8, but I lied because I was such a kick ass colorer that I knew I'd win :D

I won two free round-trip tickets on Swissair at a party (for press and travel trade) they held to celebrate their 50th (?) anniversary of their first transatlantic crossing. Each person was given a ticket to enter the party and then they did a random drawing.

I also won a good watch at a company party drawing a few years back, but unfortunately it was a men's watch. DH likes it though. :)
