I was wondering if anyone has the E3 stroller. My kids will be 18mos apart and I need a double stroller. What I really want to know is, will a toddler actually enjoy sitting in the bottom seat? I can't imagine one sitting down there!

You know I don't have two babies, but spend so much time on the stroller boards it's easy to regurgitate what I've read.

the only grumblings that I've heard about the E3 is that you have to take off the back seat to fold. there were no complains on other child sitting in the back.

I thought there was a thread about the zooper tango twin that everyone loves since you can use a baby carseat with it as well.
http://www.babycare-direct.co.uk/zooper_twin_platinum.jpg

but if you're looking for one that is narrow/umbrella style fold.
the marco sky has the one in the back elevated so both can see, but it's not yet available in the states, but you can probably find one on ebay.

If you're looking for a running stroller here are some other options.

I did some research on the E3 when we were thinking of buying one for a friend for her baby shower. Some people said their toddler liked to reach down and grab the wheels, and got ticked about not being able to see. Others liked it fine.

Wow genndan, those are some cool strollers! Where did you find them?
I remember that Zooper thread but with the new models you can't use an infant seat. I think people do anyways, the same with the Peg Aria.

emschwar thanks for the post.

I adore that Powertwin - there's one on Ebay right now - brand new, but it's $465 and hasn't even met the reserve yet! Plus, that doesn't include the $60 S/H from Canada! If I had lots of $$$ to spend, I'd get it though ;)

I know I'm jumping the gun big time here- I'm not due for 71/2 months but I like to plan and this is driving me nuts. Right now we have the Pliko 3 and LOVE it. Ideally, I would like to get the Peg Perego double stroller but the only one that is available that fits an infant seat is this one:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00067ADUO.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I'm wondering if its going to be hard to get in and out of stores with it being side by side. And does anyone have this one and tried using it with an infant seat? I'm not even sure a snugride would adapt to this stroller.

The other option: The duoglider-

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0008JIMDA.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

This stroller looks like it might be easier to go up and down aisles with and get around. But we had a graco travel system before our P3 and I wasn't really impressed.

Any feedback would be appreciated! TIA!

my kids are 20 months apart and we got the SBS tango zooper. The 04 model takes/holds the bucket seat. I couldn't be happier w/this stroller. Yes it's on the heavy side but IMO it's a very small price to pay for the quality and one handed steering. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my stroller and got in on sale for $150. It also comes w/all the accesesories like the rain cover, cozy toes and sun cover.
ETA: and since it's a side by side it can be tough to be in small stores like gymboree but I've never had any trouble getting through a door.

We have the Zooper Tango too and LOVE it! It steers so effortlessly even though it's on the heavy side. We live in the city and I put a lot of wear and tear on strollers. I love all of the accessories that it comes with and the customer service for Zooper is awesome. BTW, I have a 6 mos old and a 2 yr old and I've never had a problem with the stroller feeling out of balance. It's a good, sturdy stroller.

I picked up a used duo-glider. More or less happy with it. It fits down most aisles (mostly only use it for shopping) but it is a bit hard to steer with a 2 year old up front and a baby in a carrier in the back with all the weigh "up front". However I only paid $65 for it so I can live with it's faults. :)

It does not. I had an AT and I thought it was really hard to steer. It's nice and light, and the kids loved the trays. But, a pita to steer.

We used a Mac TT for most of the time, recently sold that and now use a Sit N Stand.

Thanks Linda! I'm dissapointed! I checked out the Maclaren TT and it doesn't have a snack tray. We definately need a snack tray.

I really am hesitant about the douglider but probably will end up with one.

I have a duoglider and a combi and I use my duoglider all the time. i really like it. it's a bit heavy when I'm putting it in the car but other than that, I like everything about it.

The one thing I will say is that I thought it was a pain to get the carseat in and out of it when we were using the infant seat. So I didn't use it much in the beginning. But now that my kids are 1 and 2, we use it all the time.

Hi!!

I am in the same vote! I thought about getting the Peg Perego Aria mt but then I found out that the Valco runabout tri double stroller works great!!

Go to the web and read about it . It is expensive and its not a unbrella stroller so it wont be very light. all though it does it all ,and its infent car seat friendly.

kindermom That does look cool! The toddler seat looks a little small, but the weight limit is 35 lbs and the little girl in the one photo didn't look too squished. My first thought was whether there was some way to use that seat with the Bugaboo frame...that would be perfect! Anyone seen one in person or even used a Bumble Ride single? I'd never heard of it.

tgal we LOVE our single bob. i still haven't tried out any doubles, but it's at the top of our list because we enjoy driving our single. what are the three doubles you ruled out?

Does anyone use the Phil and Ted's with children that are about the same size?

My kids are 15 months apart, but since they have different bio parents, DS (older) is very small for his age, while DD (younger) is likely going to be a bit larger than average. I want to buy a P&T, but I'm wondering how well it will work with two kids that are very much the same size. (I expect DD to outgrow her older brother by the time she's 18 months old or so.) I've been able to test drive with my kids now, but I haven't test driven with larger, same-sized kids.

Elly: We ruled out the Valco that has the option of adding a 3rd seat, the Jane and the P&T. Before that we ruled out the Joovy because Eva is just too young to do a sit and stand. I can't imagine her being ready for that by December either. We loved the Bob and now that I've looked at their website, we have no clue what model it was. It had a wheel in front that could turn and be locked. There were a couple issues with it. It is big and when you fold it there isn't a locking mechanism to keep it closed. It is super easy to fold, but I am clueless as to why they didn't include something to keep the thing closed. As you try to lift it to put it back in your vehicle it opens. I'm hoping they correct the issue with the 08 model. With all that said, we keep flip flopping with the P&T. We love that it is so compact, but I worry about wanting to use it for jogging once I've recovered pp. I had just started jogging two months before I found out I was pregnant and loved the exercise, so I would really like to get back into it. Again, I am excited to see the 08 improvements and new releases come November. It's funny how much time and energy we are putting into making a decision since this is one of the only things we really need ;)!

Okay, I have to brag about the Maclaren Techno Double. We ordered it online, never saw it in person, but knew that we loved our single triumph. I have a 2.5 year old and a 4 month old and even with a large weight discrepancy (she is 37 pounds, he is about 15) it drives and steers very well. It has gone through every doorway we have attempted, including our front door. I have taken it shopping several times and I do occasionally get snagged on a clothing rack, but nothing too unmanageable. My DD does occasionally stick her leg out to the side and it catches on something, but this is a behavioral issue, not a stroller issue. We like the higher weight limit (I think it is 50 pounds per seat). I think the baskets are actually quite large for this type of stroller and I have no problem sticking my purse or a few groceries in them. I will say that my DD is broad across the shoulders and on the stocky side, so if she were any broader, she may have trouble fitting in the seat. But on that note, I would have to say that the average child would fit just fine. We are getting ready to take a week long vacation to San Diego, so I will let you all know how we like it after more extended use. Overall, I would have to say that I LOVE this stroller and it has changed my life as far as leaving my house is concerned!

New here...

Got a quick question. Are there any good double strollers that aren't that expensive? I have a DD due 2 days after my DS' first birthday so we're definitely going to need a double stroller. DH isn't convinced we need one though so I'm thinking if I can find one that isn't too expensive he'll be more apt to agree.

If it matters, DS is large for his age (was 30 in long & 22lbs at 9 months) and I have a feeling DD will be too. And for a $$$ reference, the stroller we do have now is a Eddie Bauer travel system that the IL's bought for us (I think it was $150) and DH balked at that price

Pink - It is hard to find reasonable prices on double strollers. My DH had a major cow when I started asking for a double stroller, but he finally broke down and spent the money when I stressed how much happier it would make me to be able to leave the house without worrying about what to do with my kids. If I were you, I would check craigslist. I actually found a sit n stand with the extra seat for 75 dollars, which was very reasonable. We ended up not going that direction, but you can find good deals if you look hard enough. Even if the listing price is higher, I think a lot of people are willing to take less.
Also, consignment stores, especially those that are specific to kids, often have used double strollers. It is worth a shot.

PinkMartini Definitely check out craigslist and if you have a Once Upon a Child nearby they often have doubles that are much cheaper than new ones. Good luck!

As someone who has 2 kids vey close in age (11 months apart), I can tell you I absolutely couldn't live without my double stroller. I use it everywhere.

My car was recently stolen, and my double was in it. I looked everywhere for an affordable double. I went with www.allbeebaby.com , they always have sales and good deals. Baby Depot usually has decent prices in store if you have one of those around. Craigslist, freecycle and Once Upon a child are definatley worth a shot (My area stinks though, and I'm never able to find anything good at any of those!) Anyway you could get the grandparents to chip in on the price, as a gift to the new baby?

Ditto this. Except my kids are 14 months apart, and I still don't have a double stroller. DD is 3.5 weeks old, and we REALLY need one. There are places that I just don't go because I don't have a good way to transport/carry the kids once I get there. Right now, I carry DD in a Baby Bjorn and put DS in my single stroller. It works, but I can only do it for so long, you know?

I'd recommend searching out craigslist or consignment shops. You don't NEED a super fancy stroller, but you do need something to get both kids from Point A to Point B.

PGBG: Have you gone to a store and tried out the P&T or did you already get one? Obviously we haven't made a purchase, but have gone to a store that is conducive to trying out all various strollers, i.e. walking around the store and putting them in your car. I'm 5'9" and dh is ~6'. When you put the chair on the back of the stroller as the smaller child gets bigger it sticks out directly below the handle bars. From time to time just walking around the store dh and I would knock our shins on the back of the attached chair. Given that we had that experience just walking around the store, I highly doubt at our heights this stroller would work for jogging. However, if we only took one child without the attachment or with two using the front seat dropped as a bassinet, I think it would work. Hopefully someone who has one will respond, but this is just my minimal experience with the P&T.

Orion: Lol, just about every P&T owner shares the same opinion! Do you jog, can you help us out on this one?

We're moving in less than 2 weeks to Wyoming to a town with only 8500 people though so I don't know how much luck I'll have with that. I'll see if I can find something here though before we move... I know we don't have a freecycle here and will check to see if there's one where we are moving too.

Sebski, Hi! :) If you get that stroller, let me know... I am very, very intrigued by it and have been stalking my local Craig's List to see if it ever pops up. It is just so crazy expensive! Normally I would just bite the bullet and get it, but I'm afraid since DD is 24 months now that she won't want to ride in the toddler attachment. But it just looks SO convenient for our situation.

I had the single valco w/TS. It is very plush and has a nice basket. What I didn't like about it was that the sunshade stinks. So plan on getting a double rayshade to make up for that. The only other double w/toddler seat that I know of is the ABC (adventure buggy co.) double w/toddler seat. In that setup the toddler seat is up top by the handlebar (kind of like a shopping cart). Also the valco can be hard to push/steer with the TS because it concentrates the weight on the front wheel(s). It should be better with the double because there are 2 wheels instead of 1, but it was still an issue for me.

tgal i agree that the lack of a locking mechanism on the BOB when folded is certainly a downside and annoying! i mean how hard is it to add a little clip? even the single is pretty weighty lifting into my suv. i'm interested in trying out the AW 12" model, since it's a little narrower than the Revolution Dualie, both have a front swivel wheel w/ the locking option. did you try out a BJCSD?

Anyone have any recommendations for me? When my new DC is born DS will be 22 months old. I'm looking for something not hugely bulky or expensive, easy to steer and I *think* I prefer a tandem but only if it's not gigantic. I feel like a SBS would be awkward but haven't driven one yet. I have a Chicco Keyfit infant seat so I would like for it to be compatible with that. Thanks in advance!

Can you really not jog with the P&T?

Friends of ours use it for jogging and say it works fine.

Dh is a "runner" (he says there's a difference between a jogger and a runner ;) ) and he is going to borrow theirs and see what he thinks of it while on one of his runs. I'll report back and let ya know what he thinks.

tgal

Shannon: Could you have him try it with the second seat on the back? :D I think jogging is fine without it, but I am skeptical about it with the extra seat in the back. I think if they extended the handle bar a bit more for taller people it definitely wouldn't be an issue. Let me know, PLEASE!!!! This is the only reason why we are flip flopping at this point. TIA!

Elly: Yeah, had there been some sort of clip that would have been perfect, that thing folds like a champ! Chris and I are debating over which one we tried out in the store. I'll have to call to verify because they only had one duallie. I think it was the 12" and dh thinks it was just the Revolution. You've got me stumpped on the BJCSD???

Sure! I'd be happy to let you know Tara! It may be a little while before we actually get around to doing the test run though. This weekend is shot so we'll have to see about the weekends to come.

One thing though is that I don't know if he runs with a jogging stroller like most people- he runs off to the side of it a little (not directly in back of it) and just steers it with his right hand.

No hurry! We won't buy until around November anyway! ;)

Sebski: If you already have 3, you sure do have slim pickins! We really liked the concept of this stroller because we do want to have one more baby and thought it might be best to plan ahead. However, given we don't need this option for 3 right now we ruled it out because it felt heavier than the others (not that we actually compared weights) and it was much more difficult to stear. Again, we don't have to buy something for 3, so the Bob and P&T in comparison pushed like a dream.

Does anyone have the Valco Runabout Trimode Twin stroller?

I think we're pretty much going to end up w/ this as our stroller since it has the toddler basket for DS while the twins ride in the stroller.

Any reviews/comments etc. on this stroller? It's a lot more than we planned on spending, so I'm hoping that people have some commentary for me. :D

My friend has this - she has twins and an older boy (they are 20 months apart). I think it was really the only thing that she could find to use that suited her (she does a lot of walking around her neighborhood). I pushed it once with her three boys in it, and my God, it was like trying to steer a ship! Are you planning on taking it to the mall, or walking your neighborhood? She prefers the mac twin for the mall, as the valco is big and bulky. In fact, I don't think she's ever folded it up - it's permanetly at her home. I think that the toddler seat is great, and suitable when you have your DC in it for a longer period of time.

I have a question for kindermom (or anyone else using the P&T with an infant carrier).

Are you using the special infant seat kit that you can buy? And do you have to recline the main seat any to get the infant seat to fit?

I just bought my P&T, but it's not here yet, and I'm trying to figure out how I could use it with the infant carrier and DS in the back.

I am going to need it for trips to stores (like BRU) and the mall... is it too big to maneuver through doorways and such?
No, it fits fine through standard sized doorways. The doubles are only a little wider than the standard Valco, actually. Not sure how they managed it, but it isn't the width of 2 normal Valco's KWIM? The only problem you'll have is if the aisles are quite narrow in a store, but most Mall stores tend to have larger aisles so it shouldn't cause any problems for what you want it for.

BJCSD--Baby Jogger City Series Double I bought magdesilver's when she got her P&T, and so far its FABULOUS. I, of course, haven't taken it in the car yet, but it folds really easily, and we have an SUV and a wagon, so no fit issues. I don't think it has a clip either, though. It pushes and steers effortlessly. But she has said in the past that it's not a TRUE jogging stroller; that if you're going to RUN with it, there are others that are better. For an everyday all-terrain, it's great. We especially *heart* the adjustable handle as I'm 5'6" and DH is 6'5"!

Hi Karlatta,

We have the P&T Sport and technically, I don't think you are supposed to use it with an infant carseat and toddler in the back, because the heavier child is always supposed to be in front to prevent tipping... That said, for the past two months, we have been using it with DS (now 3 mo.) on top in the carseat and DD (26 mo.) on bottom. My husband installed the carseat adapter kit on the stroller and instead of fully reclining the upper seat as instructed, he only reclined the seat the minimum amount that it needs to fit the carseat in (we have a Graco Snugride). Then we put the doubles kit on bottom/below. It is a bit tight sliding DD into the seat with the carseat on top, but once inside, she has plenty of room to sit comfortably below DS. I haven't had any problems with tipping, though I am extra careful knowing that it is a possibility (especially when going uphill or trying to get up a curb). But my DS is big for his age and DD is very small, so I figure they are almost the same weight if I add the weight of the carseat to DS's weight. Anyways, hope this helps!

Thanks, eldub. I'll be careful with the tipping, but like you, our older kiddo is small (20 pounds at 15 months). He actually weighs quite a bit less than DD plus the weight of her carseat.

What does the carseat adapter kit include/look like? All the pictures I've seen just show the finished product - the carseat on the stroller. Thanks again!

The kit includes a bar that the front of the carseat rests on that is installed against the back of the main seat. Then it has some straps that go around the carseat and also a little clip thing to attach to the back of the carseat where the carseat normally clips into the carseat base in a car. Does this make sense? It is hard to describe... But I have read elsewhere that people use the P&T w/o the carseat adapter kit, but we just felt it was a bit more secure with it installed. Hope this helps! We really love this stroller. I especially love it when I take both kids out by myself. Easy to steer, convenient to be able to put DS in the carseat right into the stroller and still have DD sit beneath.

Karlatta - As edub said, just watch for the tipping. OTOH, my DD is tiny and my DS is huge so the weight distribution was about equal with the weight of the snugride added in.

I use my stroller around the neighborhood and at the mall and do not have a carrier adapter. I have no problems with the security of the car seat. Like eldub, I only recline the seat enough to secure the car seat. OTOH, I tended to kepe DS in the bassiet in the beginning and rarely used the carrier. I posted some pics several pages back of the carrier in the stroller and with DD in the bottom.

I hope you guys can help me this one - DS will be 25 months old when DC#2 arrives, and I'm at the planning point where I'm deciding if I even need a double stroller? I've heard such conflicting advice IRL. DC#2 could be slung alot of the time, but I tell ya I love having a place to put the baby down for a bit (like I did DS). DS is a wild child, and I really don't think he'd be ready for a sit n' stand arrangment. It's sad, but sometimes it just works better if he's tied down :p But that's now, at 18 months, so maybe he'll have matured? What did you guys find? How long did your eldest really need the seat in the stroller? It would be mostly for long walks, mall walking, and day trips...
thanks!!

Hi Kindermom -- I didn't see any pictures, would you mind posting them again?

Also, eldub is there any way you can post pictures too of either the carseat adaptor alone and/or with a carseat? Or can anyone post a link to a website with that? I've only seen the toddler seats as the accessories, but don't remember a carseat adaptor. If we can use this stroller w/ a carseat that just may seal the deal for me!

Thanks, kindermom, I figured it was the old thread! Those pictures really do help. I can see that you probably don't need an adaptor kit. Also, I guess you must have your oldest sit first, then put the seat down for the carseat, right? Can you also put the carseat into the folded-flat bassinet seat and still fit the toddler seat on top?
Thanks!

Now, you have to have the main seat slightly reclined and the toddler seat on the back to make it work. It is because the toddler seat on the front goes in the same place the stroller bar does. So you can only have one or the other.

My DD is in the 50th for height (33" I think) and I can put DS in first, anchor in the weight, and then I let her climb in on her own.

For those interested in the P&T, I found this website which has videos of the stroller. I found them very helpful.

Here (http://strollermama.com/philandteds-sport.htm) you can see a general overview and a video of how to fold the stroller. Further down the page, there's a link for how the doubles seat works. And then on this (http://strollermama.com/philandteds-stroller-accessories.htm) page, you can see a video of the carseat adapter.

ETA: There are videos of other strollers on that website too. www.strollermama.com

Hi everyone!

For those of you with the Joovy Ultralight - are you happy with it and can you hang a diaper bag from the stroller while the toddler is in the jump seat?

Also, is the improved steering and lighter weight worth the price difference over the baby trend?

Thanks so much for any info you can give me:D

I got my P&T today from ebay. I ordered it on Friday of last week, and it arrived this morning (shipped out Tuesday due to the holiday). I'd recommend the seller to anyone. He has all colors available - you just have to wait for the one you want to be listed. (I actually emailed him and asked him to list a charcoal one for me, and he did.) Anyway, the seller's name is discountsales1, and they're only $435 with free shipping with Buy It Now.

karlatta- sorry this post is so delayed. I have not been on CC in over week. I am going to use the double stroller for just about everything- the mall, walks in the park, anyplace we go that requires a stroller (and when DH is not w/ me). i don't think DS will be big enough/mature enought to do the stand and ride. he'll be 2 years and 3 months when baby arrives. my sister has a 3 year old and she still goes into the unbrella stroller when we take her to fairs and carnivals. right now i have a great umbrella stroller and single travel system. This would work perfectly if i always had another adult with me when i leave the house. i def. need the double stroller for those days i am on my own.

I read through the double stroller thread and two other people had a similar question with no answer. I hope it's okay for a new thread for this topic.

So, moms of two 2 1/2 to 3 years apart, did you get a double stroller? If so, how often do you actually use it? If not, why not? Do you wish you had bought one?

DS is almost 27mos now and is still a stroller baby. If I let him out of the stroller, he will run away from me (at stores-the mall, Target, the library, etc.). He rides nicely in the stroller and never asks to get out, so I'm okay with that. I don't know how much that will change in 9 months, though? Some have told me he'll walk nicely with me starting around 2 1/2 (I'm skeptical, can you tell?:p). If it rings true, I'm wondering if I will really need a double stroller? I could see for long walking trips like the zoo or Disney, but don't they rent double strollers usually?

Obviously, I'm thinking it would be great to save the $$$ we would spend on a double stroller and spend it on something else we may need more. but, if this is something we will really need, I want to start my research to find a stroller that will work for us.

TIA for your thoughts!

my kids are about 30 months apart. I really want to get the Sit n Stand by Baby Trend. But I want to see it in a store and test it out. Unfortunately, the one I really want (the silverado) isn't in any stores :( And I just can't take the plunge. I don't want to spent 160 bucks on a stroller that doesn't work for us.

I know what you mean about your older kid just running away. We took DS to the zoo (during the week, so it wasn't crowded) and he just jets away. No care in the world!!! He LOVES his stroller though, so I know he still needs to be able to sit in one.

I haven't had #2 yet, but after talking with other moms of 2 here's my tenative plan. DD is 27 months and will hold my hand in the mall, walking into the store, etc. I plan to put DS in the moby or other carrier and then hold DD's hand. If DD asks for the stroller (we don't use it much anymore) then I will put her in the stroller and use the carrier for the baby. I'd love to have the option of a double stroller but all the ones that look good to me are ridiculously expensive (IMO) and I can't justify spending that money when I'm not positive I'm going to use it. So if I'm calculating correctly Leslie, your DS will be 3 when #2 comes along? I think that you might want to wait and see what your DS is like closer to #2's arrival. Maybe you could even start "weaning" from the stroller or giving him the option to walk and hold hands or use the stroller. That's what I started doing with DD when I found out I was pg and she's done really well holding my hand and/or staying right by me.

I'd love to hear what other moms who have gone through it think about this too. I read both double stroller threads and didn't see the answer either.

We went this weekend all prepared to buy the Joovy Caboose and my DH decided that there is no way DS (2.5) would be happy sitting backwards for long periods (plus no cup holders/snack holders for back or parent on that one).

My DS can sometimes run off if out of the stroller, and I'd hate for him to do it if I have another babe in a stroller, ya know? I have about 3 months left, so I don't know how much that will change...

I also desperately don't want a 40 lb stroller!! The lighter ones are SO expensive so I don't want to make the plunge if I really don't need it!!

Anyone have newer models of the Peg Perego Twin Aria or Zooper Tango? Want to give a review??

If I have to get a double, I just cannot bring myself to get the Duo Glider or Quattro because of the weight - and these two seem to look like they would fit my needs the best (still want cup holders/suncovers). My kids will be 34 months apart so quite a differential in weight and I want to make sure that these will work in that aspect. I'd also like to know how well they wear. I'd be using for walks around the neighborhood and mall/zoo outings. So daily use, but nothing too crazy.

My DD was 3 when DD2 came. She just had to learn to walk. She was in a stroller until the baby came, and we live in the city without a car, so we walk/take public transport everywhere. It was a little tough at first, but ok. She learned to hold onto the side of the stroller.

You could always get a buggyboard/kiddyboard, they are very popular here, but I personally think a healty 3yo can walk and that's what we taught my DD.

I always had a double stroller, even when I only had one child. We would shop at the farmer's market and fill it with fruits and vegetables. There's no way that I could've done that with a single stroller.

Then I used one with 2. Then when we had 3 children 3 and under, we put all 3 in the double stroller. By laying down the back seat, 2 can fit in that section. It was wonderful. Sometimes, only the 2 youngest used it, but it sure was nice to be able to put all 3 of them in there and just go.

If I had it to do again, I'd definitely get another double stroller!

Oh yeah...the 2 youngest would even take a nap together in the back section while the older one sat in the front.

I love the ones that convert to one long stroller (the front seat lies down level with the back seat) for either an older child napping or more than one napping. You can even flip up the front foot rest and make it that much longer. :D A 6-year-old could sleep in there!! :D (Actually, we might have done that.)

MrsT, I don't remember either of my double strollers being overly heavy, and they weren't expensive, so I hope that you, too, can find one that works for you! The last time that I bought one was 9 years ago, so I have no idea what's out there now.

Hmm...I was just remembering that I used to let the 4 and 5-year-old ride in the back while the baby was in the front (while I was still pregnant--before the next baby needed the space). They thought that it was great fun, and it helped to keep me in shape. :)

Double strollers are also handy to have around when friends or nieces or nephews come to visit.

(I'm sure that this post is confusing. We had only one child until she was 5, then we had a 4-year-old and an infant join our family. I was pregnant at the time, so we had another baby soon after. Then we had another less than 2 years later. In case anybody was confused. That's why the ages and number of children might sound kind of off.

Well, I'm tired, so the whole post seems kind of disjointed. Sorry about that!)

DS will be just shy of 3 years when DC#2 arrives. We don't use the stroller much these days since DS is a good walker now. It took some time but he will actually hold my hand or stay close to be at the mall or stores. I am skipping the whole double stroller because they seem $$ and HUGE. I plan to sling DC#2 so that by the time I am ready to put he/she in the stroller, DS will be well over the age for a stroller.

I should add I am a WOHM so we are weekend stroller users mainly. But the whole reason I made DS get out of stroller habit was to get him exercise and tire him out for a good nap. Love my Pliko but it was kind of a waste.

My kids are just shy of 3 years apart. We did not buy a double at first because by then, DD was not interested in riding in a stroller that much. We figured that we could have her walk most of the time and if we went somewhere where there ws a lot of walking then we'd just take 2 strollers or wear the baby.

However, once she saw the baby using the stroller all the time, she wanted to ride too. We made her walk for a while, but it persisted. Finally, when DS was around 5 months old we bit the bullet and got a Joovy. It's been really great. We don't use it a ton, but it is perfect for their ages. DD loves that she can get on and off at will and she likes to stand up and turn around. The kids are now 4 years and 16 months and I see us using this for quite a while longer.

Our DS has not ridden in the stroller since almost exactly his 2nd birthday. He'll be 3-1/2 when we have our second baby. We don't plan on getting a double stroller. Instead, we plan on getting a new Pliko for the 2nd baby. (We trashed ours with so much use with DS.)

my kids are 25 months apart. we tried the double at first, but my dd was at the stage where she didn't want to sit in the stroller.
about a month after my ds was born, the sit and stands were out in the stores, after taking 1 look at it we knew it would be perfect for us!
It allows my dd the freedom to walk, but if she gets tired, can sit in the back

now that my dd is 4, and my ds is almost 2, we still use it. My ds is at the point where he is not loving the stroller, and would really just rather walk, which is a disaster since he will NOT stay next to me or hold my hand.
The sit and stand allows him to sit on the bech, and he won't fight me

My son was only 23 months when DD was born, but we didn't get a double until the spring when DS was 2.5. Honestly I never missed it and the only reason we got one was because DD was not content in the sling/bjorn and I really wanted to do some long walks for exercise. We got a cheap Jeep side by side and it has been great - we use it a couple of times per week for long walks to the park. Also I never did real errands when both kids were little so if we went to the mall, it was just to walk and sightsee not to actually shop. DS has always been a good hand holder and does not run off so I am happy fo him to walk and get the exercise. When DD was under 6 months I always wore her. Now if we do an activity where she might get tired I take the single stroller or if DH is along, he will bring the backpack carrier.

Mine are 20 months apart - they are 3 years old and 16 months old now and I never bought a double stroller. I just used my sling with the little one and put the big one in the stoller when I needed it.

And I used my stroller nearly every day when I took them to daycare. But I just never really had the need for 2. When Little got too big/wiggly to be worn, then she rode in the stroller and Big walked. Now they both walk pretty much everywhere, or Little rides and Big walks.

My kids are right at 3 yrs apart and we did not buy a double stroller.

When I got pregnant DD would still ride in a stroller, but as the months passed she stopped. She'd want out all the time and did fine walking and holding our hands. I also preferred not to spend the $ on a stroller she wouldn't want to ride in all the time, esp. as we may only have 2 children.

DS was born in March and we have our "big" stroller, then a smaller umbrella stroller. The umbrella stays in the car and sometimes the bigger is put in as well. If we happen to be out shopping and have both strollers in the car then DD might request to ride in the umbrella. If we only have 1 then she's content to walk.

OUr 2 are 1 month shy of 3.5 years apart. Noah is still very much a stroller rider. But, at almost 3.5, I didn't see the need for a true double stroller. We got the joovy ultralight, and so far (we've used it a few times), we love it. Noah thinks sitting on the "big boy seat" is fantastic, especially since he can turn a little and see his brother. It steers like a dream, and is easy to fold too.

Thanks for all of the replies! It looks like it could go either way. I'm a SAHM, so when we go to the mall or other stores that don't have shopping carts, it's usually during the day when DH is at work. Generally by myself and maybe sometimes with other moms. The more I think about it, the more I don't think I could let him loose while shopping unless things (he) drastically changes in the next 9 months. It might be a good idea for me to look into one of those sit and stand type strollers. I could say I'd sling the babe and push DS in the stroller, but I was never very diligent about slinging DS when he was a baby, so I doubt I will be this time either. Anyway, thanks again for all of your thoughts. Very helpful!

I just went to the Baby Trend web site and saw the infant carrier in the front seat of the Sit-N-Stand Plus. The carrier can only go in the front seat???? I don't think that would fly with DS if he were riding in the rear seat. He wouldn't be able to see over the carrier, right? It doesn't appear to be stadium seating. We have the Sit and Stand Plus and the infant seat attachment does only go on the front seat but I always put the carrier/infant seat in the back. It doesnt lock onto anything but it didnt move or go anywhere. DD#1 always wanted to sit in the front most of the time so I would just put DD #2 in the back in her carrier. It is not stadium seating either. My girls are 27 months apart and this stroller has been great for us. Im about ready to convert it to the bench seat for my older one now that the younger one can sit up on her own and will do okay in the front seat.

Augt2002Bride, thanks for the tip. I never would have thought to put the carrier in the second seat! I tested out the regular Sit and Stand at Target today and I thought it seemed pretty easy to steer and fold. Do you feel that way about the Plus?

09-27-2007, 03:05 PM
I definitely think its easy to steer and manuever around. It folds pretty compactly too...the only issue I had with it and folding it to fit in my trunk was that the sun shade on the first seat sticks out quite a bit when its folded. So I just took it off and only have the sun shade over DD2. Sometimes I even take the cup/snack tray off the front seat too and when you have both of those off it takes up the same amount or even less room than my Graco Quattro Tour single stroller.

I have a random question that maybe you girls can help me with. Our friends want to sell us a never used Maclaren Twin Stroller (i'm not sure what it is- the triumph or the techno). We are going to have twins in February- but also have a toddler. I'm trying to decide if we need a double stroller or a triple because DS will be about 23 months when they are born. I will need some way to get them to the park, etc. I am wondering if I should get a double and one of those attachments so he can stand on the back (if he would cooperate with that- but he really likes his stroller rides) or a triple. And if I get the triple, would it also be good to have a double as well for trips to the mall with the twins? I just don't know what we need. Any input?

Amy-
I think in your situation I'd recommend either the Joovy big caboose (like a sit 'n stand with 2 seats/spots for carseats and the riding board/jump seat in the back) or the valco twin w/toddler seat. This way you'd have a way to have them all contained at once. Personally I'd probably go for the valco because of the air tires and the toddler seat that is a real seat. But both would be good options. I have a 29 month-old and I can't imagine not having an option of a stroller seat or spot for her- she can not do a riding board full-time, especially at places like the zoo.

Aug2002Bride

I dont have any experience with either stroller that pp recommended but I do know that I had to have DD1 in a stroller at 27 months when dd2 was born. There was no way she would stay with me if walking when I was out by myself. I would say go for one that your toddler can also be in!

Oh my goodness, now you have me LOVING the Valco that I absolutely can't afford right now. But that's the best option we've got for sure. Maybe I will wait and save up for it instead of getting the Maclaren! I know Sam will want to ride is the thing- he loves his stroller rides. And we will have a snap and go for the twins for the first few months while they are in their infant seats... Thanks for pointing out that stroller!

amy,
check your local craigslist and ebay for used ones for less $$. Also look on strollerswap or post an ISO there looking for one. You should be able to find a good used one there for a more reasonable price.
It might be more $$ than you were planning to spend, but the reality is when you are alone and out with 3 little ones you need a mode of getting around! So maybe sell some of your other strollers and stuff to raise some of the funds to make it okay with DH :).

Hey Leslie
I'm not in your situation, but I was just out with a friend this week and it made me think of your thread. She has a 3 mo old and a 2.5 yr old.
For her, loading both kids into a stroller was a safety thing as much as a convenience thing. We were having lunch and had to park several blocks away. She the older DD in the stroller in the parking lot while she loaded up DD#2. This way she didn't have to try to keep #1 from walking around in the parking lot, or running away while walking to the restaurant.
I think that #2 ends up walking a lot (like any kid that age) but when going to and from the car she puts her in the stroller.

Thanks BeachBum! That's kind of my thought-safety. It just seems to make more sense to have a double stroller so that we can get around without me having to worry about #1 running or wandering off. I can't see myself getting much shopping done while worrying about him wandering off from me. Time will tell, of course, if he will stay put, but better safe than sorry!

What I would recommend is waiting until your #2 gets here and reevaluating then. It is very easy to wear a newborn in a baby bjorn or whatever. At that time you can see how your son does and if you in fact need a double.
Personally, I could not live without some sort of double. It is how I get around with both kids. My DH is gone a lot (military) and so I am almost always on my own during the week and lots of weekends too. My kids are 29 months and 8 months. We have the phil and ted's and it works great for us. It is also nice because it can be a single or a double so I'm not stuck with a double when I don't need one. I had a baby jogger double that was so nice, but it was too much stroller for us. I do use my phil and ted's all the time- the mall, the zoo, park, etc. My DD is not one to run away but she does get distracted and walks fairly slow, plus she likes the stroller so I do use it plenty. And at places like the zoo or state fair there is just too much walking involved so it's nice to stick her in there and move on to the next thing to see.

DD1 was almost 3 when DD2 was born. DD1 was never much of a stroller rider, but we decided to try the Sit N Stand anyway. Both girls love it. Yes, it is bulky and heavy, but it's great for those outings where a lot of walking is required.

That said, I would not travel with it because it's so heavy and bulky, and it's a bit of a PITA to keep in the car, too. But these cons by far outweigh the benefits. DD1 is nearly 4 now, though, so she just has to walk these days.

So I was looking on the Valco website- the toddler seat looks pretty cool but I want to see a picture with actual kids in the stroller so I can see how close the toddler would be to the actual kiddos in the stroller. Anyone know where I can find such a thing? I couldn't find them on their website. Or does anyone have this stroller that can give me some insight?

I'm soooo excited -- tomorrow I'm buying a P&T in the color I was eyeing (charcoal) from someone off Craigslist for $300!!!! That includes the toddler seat!! I can't wait to see it! It's barely used, and bought in 2006.

I read a lot about the changes they're making in the new version (and who knows when that will be out...), and although it does sound great (lighter, folds w/ toddler seat on, etc), it's also going to be closer to $600 which is a bit too much.

YEA!! I'll post here after I try it out with DS (and I can't wait until February to try it with #2!)

Has anyone bought the Kolcraft Contours Options double stroller? Do you know if it fits into the trunk of a Honda Accord? I saw one at the mall the other day and it seemed really cool. I'm concerned that it won't fit into my trunk and that it might be super heavy.

I also read on a couple of websites that you have to remove the seats before folding it up. Is this true? Thank you for your help.

Yes, the seats must be removed to fold, though that is not hard to do. However, the seats are very small so unless your toddler is very small for their age or very young, it will not last you a long time. If you want to try it out and it isn't sold in your area, I'd buy from somewhere like walmart that has a lenient return policy and free shipping (site to store) so you can return it and not be out any money.

Would you guys buy a stroller with a toddler seat assuming you would have another child when the first was 2-3 years old? Our first is due in April, but I'm considering the Phil & Ted Sport because we'll probably have #2 when #1 is 2-3 years old. I wouldn't actually buy the toddler seat now but it seems like having the option would be nice. I guess the Valco is also contender. I do like that the P&T toddler seat can go on the front or the back and it seems to be a favorite on here. But is it silly to buy something I'm not even sure I'll need?

Both of these strollers would be in contention for me even without considering the toddler seat though. I want big tires in a 3-wheeled all-terrain model.

Why should I go with P&T over Valco, or the other way around? Thanks.

You are very smart to consider the future. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely buy a stroller with a toddler seat option. My other two strollers seems like such a waste of money.

I know the post was old, but thought I would chime in. I have the Joovy Ultralight, and I LOVE it! I was pretty much convinced that any non-air tire double stroller would be a monster to push, but this one is very nice to push. So I would say definitely yes, it is worth the extra $$ to me. I think you can hang a bag, but it may not be a very nice option for the toddler seat occupant. I haven't tried yet.

Anyone have any experience with the Stroll-Air Spider Duo NV? It looks really cool but I don't think I've ever seen one in a store or someone using one. I'm not even pregnant yet - but thinking positively and already researching double strollers!

I had a Stroll Air, and I loved it. I only sold it because my oldest was getting a bit too big for the seats (the seats are small...probably a better stroller for twins or kids close in age like mine were.)

I don't know...I get bored w/ strollers, and always have this silly need to have the "latest & greatest." For me, I would have definitely wanted a new stroller when I had two (and I did.) In fact, I often buy a stroller, use it for a while, get bored and sell to buy a new one. :)

Any idea when the car seat adapter for the BJCS double comes out? At first I really thought I wanted a BOB Revolution Dualie, but now after reading this thread I think I might prefer the BJCS. The only thing that is swaying me towards the BOB is the car seat adapter. DC#2 isn't due until May so I have some time, but I need the time to convince DH. DS will be just about 19 months with #2 is born and DH feels that a Sit n Stand or a Caboose would be fine. I don't think so! I told him if we sock away $100 a month we'll be fine, but he doesn't feel we need to spend that much $$$ on a stroller. I'm hoping a test driving trip will change his mind. He loves our Schwinn TT Safari jogger right now so I'm hoping to swing him with an in-person visit.

Baby Jogger City Series Double
Bob Revolution Duallie
Valco Twin
Mountain Buggy Double
These are all out of my price range but I need something that can go over sand easily and will save and save to get one. DD is 4ys and 38lbs and DS is 8mo and 25lbs. Any thoughts?

I don't think the P&T was around (at least I had never heard of it) when my first was born, but I wish I would have been able to buy it for the first and then add a toddler seat when the second came along. Especially since it is so pricey. I used it as a single stroller for my toddler for a few months before #2 came along, and I love it as a single. I have also used it with my second son alone while the first is in Mother's Day out. It fits my bucket carseat fine. I think it is a fantastic stroller even with only one kid, infant or toddler, so I don't think it would be a waste even if you never had another child/wanted a different stroller later.

I have to disagree. I would NOT buy the phil and ted's as a single stroller. It is a nice stroller, yes. But it is lacking in some things that for the same/similar $$ you can get with other all-terrain strollers. For a double, it's great, and it's nice to have the flexibility in one stroller. For me, the main area the stroller is lacking is the canopy. It sucks big time!! Pretty much no sun coverage whatsoever. But that's a compromise I have made becuase it fits a real need for me as a double. If you are looking for a single, I'd look at the bob revolution or the baby jogger city single (the BJCS will be on big sale in the next few months as the new models come out). All these strollers have excellent resale value if/when you have baby #2 and decide to get a double. In addition, in 3 years there will be a whole slew of new doubles out there- a probably a new version of the PT (by the way they are coming out with new versions in the next few months anyhow). So if you got the PT you might want to "upgrade" to the newer version at that time anyways.
Bottom line, I'd get the best single you can now, and see what is available when you need one for the future #2. And honestly I'd probably not buy a single all-terrain unless you get a great deal on one right now until closer to/right after your #1 arrives.

My DS just turned 1 and we bought the P&T for him, assuming we would be saving money buy the time we got around to having DC #2. I like it a lot, and don't regret buying it. But, if it's the only stroller you will have, consider that it is very bulky and heavy getting in and out of the car, and very bulky if you're going to be attaching the car seat to it. For this reason, I regret not getting a snap and go to use when he was still in the bucket. Yeah, P&T will probably come out with an upgraded version, new colors, etc. (in fact they already have since we bought ours over a year ago) but I guess that's the risk you take in buying any stroller you expect to convert into a double down the road. I agree that the canopy is not it's best feature, but it steers great, is comfortable for DS, and is a nice higher end stroller. I would say the only disadvantage as compared to more expensive strollers like a Bugaboo is that you can't switch which way DC is facing.

kindermom
10-31-2007, 11:12 AM
P&T for single use...
I rarely use my canopy so it doesn't bother me. But there are other single-to-double convertibles that may work for you as well. The Bumble Ride Queen B is one that I really like. The Valco not as much (too heavy).

For the PP who said that the P&T is bulky and heavy did not have my Graco metrolite which was not much less in weight (and was a lite stroller) and just as bulky. That said, little compres to teh snap frames then a move to a umbrella stroller.

karlatta
10-31-2007, 11:58 AM
If I had to do it all over again, I still wouldn't have started with the P&T. In my opinion, what makes it so great is its flexibility as a double. As a single, it's just kind of "meh." I mean, I use it as a single all the time, but really just because I don't want to carry multiple strollers in my car. Not because its so awesome as a single. It is missing a lot of features that I really liked on previous strollers, but I deal with not having them because it's so nice to only have one stroller to deal with, no matter which kids I have with me.

I would have started with a snap n go when DS was in his bucket. And then I would have moved to a jogging stroller (I had the InStep Safari TT). My jogging stroller was about the same size and weight as the P&T, so it didn't really help with that aspect, but it had more storage, a parent snack bar, a child snack bar, etc. It was just as easy to manuever as my P&T is. It was also only $100, and I was able to sell it for $80 on Craigslist when I got my P&T, so in reality I paid $20 to use it for about 8 months. Not bad at all.

The last I heard, it was postponed till fall. But I don't see anything on their website. I thought this was a do-or-die for me at first, but the more I consider it (#2 isn't here yet), I think I'll do without. I'm planning to wear #2 and put #1 in the single till #2 gets a little bigger anyway.

With your little one due in the spring, you definitely could get by without the carseat adapter by using a Snuzzler, which magdesilver suggested a ways back.

FWIW, I take #1 in walks in the BJCSD by herself because the thing is such a dream to push!

I am optimistically hopeful that this will be "the" stroller for us. I was interested in the City Double when I was pg, but when I went to try double strollers out, I was shocked at how heavy they were. I also thought I wanted something that would hold the infant seat easily. Well, DS2 is now 6 weeks and we are getting by with me wearing him, DS1 occassionally walking, and a DuoGlider we have borrowed. I don't feel I need the infant seat option anymore, I just need a good stroller for both the mall and the bumpy sidewalk--that I can lift in and out of the car without such a struggle. (I'm a 5-ft, 100-lb wimp!!) The stroller will "live" in the van, and I really need to be able to whip it out easily to go on a walk.

I'm glad you're into it, Mag, since you're a stroller guru :) I am just hoping to get to try it in person. If not, I'll await your review!!

bought the phil&teds with the extra seat last weekend and have a question for those who have used it or looked at it... i'm still wondering if it's worth all that money i spent.

why does the extra seat seem like there's no butt/leg support when attached on the top? i put my toddler in and it seemed to hold him fine, but when i first put everything together, i thought i got a defective seat. putting the toddler seat on the bottom is fine because the bar on the bottom supports the seat part.

also, i'm a bit disappointed that the carseat kit did not seem to work for us. we have a peg perego infant seat and it is just not stable no matter how we put it in. the only way it works is if we lay the seat back all the way, but then DS#1 would not fit.

however, it steers wonderfully and is even narrower than my peg A3 stroller.

magdesilver
11-12-2007, 11:12 AM
The doubles seat is a sling seat (like an umbrella stroller). It doesn't need support and can hold up to 50 lbs in the "on top" position. You are right though, there is no leg support on the doubles seat. The legs hang down.
As for the carseat adapter, it is not designed to be used with the toddler seat in the back. You are supposed to recline the seat all the way for the carseat to be in there. Some people are able to keep the seat more upright and use the toddler seat but it wasn't designed to work that way. Also some can fit their carseat in the newborn "garage" area with the toddler up top. But again, that is not an "approved" setup.
I have the PT Sport and love it. It works really well for us. We started using it when DS was about 3.5 months old, and he was fine in the doubles seat with it reclined and a snuzzler to help make him cozy.

I'm looking for a double jogger. I will actually use this stroller for jogging as well as walking in the neighborhood. I've looked at the Baby Jogger Q-series as well as the performance series. Neither has a swivel wheel. The Bob Revolution Duallie does, and reviews say it's good for jogging too, even though the front wheel is 12" and it is a lockable swivel wheel. Has anyone used it for jogging, and how did it do? Or, do I really need a fixed front wheel? If I do get one with a fixed front wheel, how easy would it be for walking as a double stroller?

magdesilver

CG, how much jogging do you do? How often, and how far? That would help to determine if The bob w/swivel wheel would be adequate for you.

Julie - As mag said, the extra seat is like an umbrella stroller. I assume that is why it is not designed for children under 6 months despite the fact that it is in a slight reclined position.

I can not speak to the car seat adaptor as DS just kind of balanced in his. But you are right, it is not designed to have the car seat and the toddler seat.

DD was the same as your DS #1. We must have gone for walks in the house for at least the first month she was so enamored with her stroller. Now she love sitting in the back position. I think she likes the fact that she can get in and out on her own and there is tons of room to store toys and snacks at her feet.

Mag, I run about 4-5 miles 3-5 times a week in my neighborhood. I stay on the street when I run, but when I walk, I get on the sidewalk, which is really cracked and bumpy from all the oak tree roots that have pushed it up over the years. So, usually when I jog, the street is pretty smooth, but the sidewalks are bumpy.

I jog with my Baby Jogger City Double. I like it because you can have swivel wheels or lock them in place. I have not had any problem with mine at all and have taken it over some pretty big bumps. Both of my girls love the stroller.

magdesilver
11-14-2007, 08:17 AM
CG I think your best bet would be the BOB with 16" back wheels and the 12" front wheel. The larger wheels in back will make it easier for your run, but not be too bulky when you are walking. Just know that when the front wheel is locked it will still have a tiny bit of "jiggle" that a true fixed front wheel wouldn't have. Also you should not do any running at all with a babe under 6 months and preferably closer to a year due to the jarring motions of running.

CarolinaGirl
11-14-2007, 10:57 AM
Thanks,Mag and kates mom! I'll probably end up with the Bob because of the larger back wheels since it will primarily be used for jogging (but a little walking too) and it's gotten pretty good reviews regarding jogging. I thought about the BJCSD, but I thing the Bob is going to be better as far as the wheels are concerned.

Also you should not do any running at all with a babe under 6 months and preferably closer to a year due to the jarring motions of running.

Yea, I know. I'm just thinking ahead. Plus, I need something for walks now while I'm waiting for DD #2 to get old enough for jogging.

Also, regarding fixed front wheels - are doubles hard to maneuver with a fixed front wheel while walking? My single jogger is easy enough to lift the front wheel with one child when turning corners, but it seems like it would be sort of a struggle with two kiddos. This is the main reason I feel I might need a swivel front wheel. Otherwise, I'd go with a fixed front wheel as on the Baby Jogger.

magdesilver
11-14-2007, 11:14 AM
Well, it really won't be any more difficult than a single- maybe a tad more effort but really not much. If you will be doing a lot more running than walking, and if it isn't your primary stroller for your 2, then I'd probably go with a fixed front wheel that is larger. I think you'll be happier overall with that for running.
Another, (albeit more expensive) option would be something like the chariot cougar. You can get kits for that with both swivel front wheels and a fixed jogger wheel. But it depends on if you need all that flexibility. The resale on those is quite nice and it's nice that the kid area is enclosed as well.

I've pretty much decided on the Bob Revolution for my jogger, and I'm putting it on my wish list. Now, I need some recommendations for an inexpensive lightweight smallest double stroller available for running errands. Nothing fancy, just really small, lightweight, and cheap. I already have a hand-me-down Graco Duoglider, and it's okay, but not all that small and easy to push. It needs to be able to fit down isles in a clothing store. TIA!

kdevita, I don't know all the advantages vs. disadvantage of one over the other, but I do know that the Bob Revolution Duallie is better if you're going to actually use it for jogging. This is why I've decided on the Bob over the BJCSD.

Thanks CarolinaGirl, I'm not much of a jogger, walker mostly. I guess if there aren't any real advantages of the BJCSD than I should get the BOB since its a little less $. Any other opinions out there?

They are both great strollers. For me personally, I prefer a double with 2 wheels in front. I feel like it's more stable when you are going up and down curbs and stuff. It seems less likely to tip- though I've never seen a bob tip before.
Also, the fold on the BJ is super easy- basically folds in half. They are both pretty similar in terms of being great strollers though. My friend had the BOB and I had the BJ and we went for walks together a lot. Some nicer things on the bob are that the basket is bigger, and there are nice pockets on the inside of the seat for cups and toys and whatnot. Also the bob has an adjustable suspension which is nice if you take walks on bumpy terrain. Both strollers have awesome big canopies. I would choose a darker color for the bob (and BJ) becuase there is fabric by the feet area on both strollers. But both are great. Be aware that the back wheels on the BOB are larger so it might be a bit cumbersome if you take it to the mall. Still totally doable, but more cumbersome in a store or whatever.
In the end, both are great quality strollers so you can't really go wrong there. Also another plus to the bob is that the car seat adapter has snack trays so even if you don't need it for the carseats it's one of the few jogger/all terrains that has snack trays available for the seats!

tinyride.com has the BOB on sale for $475.99 plus an extra 5% off until Sunday or Monday. I can't remember which. Also no tax or shipping. I just ordered one yesterday. DH has been on the fnece about if we need a double or not and since he said yes I jumped right on it.

I think I've decided to bite the bullet and go ahead with the P&T, even though I'm a tight a$$ and am having a hard time paying that much money for a stroller. At babycenter right now I can get the Sport w/ doubles seat for $414 shipped (w/ coupon code and fatwallet cash back)... for those of you with this stroller, is that a decent price or should I hold out for better?

magdesilver

Shannon, I think that is a pretty decent price and I wouldn't be upset buying it at that price. If you wait you might be able to find it slightly cheaper (like in the $20 cheaper range), but who knows when that might be, and by then you might really need the stroller and the babycenter code could be gone, you know?

I love my E3 and my almost 4 year old doesn't mind sitting in the back at all. My neighbor has the same one and her son sits in the back all the time. In fact, the older kids seem to prefer the back seat. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's hard to travel with. In fact, I was thinking of selling it and getting a sit and stand stroller.

I've owned 3 double strollers, but I currently have 2. I have a Peg Perego Twin Aria for trips to the mall (which I don't use anymore since my 3 year old just walks now) and a double Bob, which I use for trips downtown and around the neighborhood. I love, love, love, the Bob! I used to have a double Graco stroller, which I loved in the beginning b/c I could just pop the car seat into it. It held up great for the year I used it, but became too heavy once my kids got older.

I have also owned 3 double strollers. We started out with the duoglider, which we used until the boys were about 15 months. We then swithced to the chicco c5 twin - mostly because the boys seemed to prefer sitting beside each other. We also got it for travelling, it's not really much lighter than the duoglider, but it folds up way smaller. It pretty much stays in the car. We also have a double chariot http://www.chariotcarriers.com/english/html/x_country.php which we use for walks from home and for the occasional outing away from home. We also tow it behind our bikes.

But now I am looking for a lightweight stroller for traveling and mall trips

We have a Mclaren now for DD 1. Dd will be 25 months old when the next is born. I love our Mclaren, but now I ran into a good deal on another brand and want to know how good that is.
I have never test driven the other two brands.

ebsbenhart7 - I have the Peg Perego Aria Twin Double Stroller and I'm not totally in love with it. I liked it in the beginning (my girls are 21 months apart), but once they got a little older it became a beast to maneuver. It was so stinkin' hard to push around corners especially on carpet. I used it as my mall stroller and quit using it right after my oldest turned 3 b/c I couldn't push it anymore with the weight difference. I do like the snack trays and the storage basket is pretty large for a double. The cup holder it came with broke off w/in the first week or so.

I still swear by my duoglider that I used as mainly for walks around the neighborhood and sometimes to the mall when I felt like packing it up. It was nice to have the kids separated and it steered really easily. It was a beast to pick up, but I could get it into my minivan by myself and I'm not a huge person. I wish I would not have sold it b/c now I have #3 on the way and it would be nice to have, but I couldn't justify having 5 strollers (3 doubles and 2 singles)

I have one double stroller right now: the Graco Duoglider. It was a hand-me-down. At first, I hated it because I was so used to using a single stroller with one child, but now I like it okay because it is narrow enough to fit down most aisles when I'm shopping and the Snugride snaps right in. I really can't complain about it.
I'm hoping to receive the Bob Revolution Duallie for Christmas. I will use this for walks around the neighborhood and for jogging once my younger daughter is old enough for jogging...I can't wait.

I've been reading this thread with interest. My DD will be 3 in May, and I have a 4 month old as well. I held off on buying a dbl until #2 arrived, b/c DD had not ridden in her stroller in ages. Well right after DS was born, we moved from a very suburban area to a huge city and it quickly became evident that we needed a stroller solution for my DD. We bought a buggy board as a quick fix, but DD only likes to sit on it, not ride since her head hits the handlebar of my Snap & Go. Plus, I want to ditch the snap & go since we don't need the car seat anymore.

So, I need a very lightweight double stroller. It does not need to have capabilities for an infant seat, since we don't have a car. I need to be able to steer it over bumpy city sidewalks and get it onto buses and the tube by myself. Does anyone else who lives in the city have any good recs? My DD mostly likes to walk, but she doesn't really watch where she is going (nor do other people) and she is constantly getting stepped on. Plus, I'm nervous about her being near the street...especially when the traffic is coming from teh other direction than she is used to!

Right now my biggest contender is the Joovy Caboose Ultralight. Unfortunately, they don't sell it where I live, and DH is going to have to buy it on his return trip to the US later this month. So I don't have the opportunity to test drive it.

dexters- I don't know that I would recommend the caboose ultralight for getting on and off a bus. It's lighter than the original, but still quite bulky when folded and I can't imagine carrying it and a baby around for any length of time- I don't think I'd be able to manage it. In fact you need 2 hands to close it (if the ultralight folds like the original caboose, which I had).

Jessiesmama- A friend of mine has that OSA stroller, and she loves it. She actually just reviewed it for another member of our playgroup, and this is what she says about it:

I love the One Step Ahead double sit & stand one (we got the one with the 2 seats-one converts to a standing spot, they also make one with 1 seat and a place for standing), but there are some downfalls to it. Its heavy, but I dont' think its much heavier than a Graco travel system, and I think it actually folds down lower than the Graco. Also, the backseat doesn't really stay up good, so I just put a rod inbetween the bars and the seat to make it stay up-easy fix. Also, the understroller storage is difficult to get into. lol, after that review it sounds pretty crappy, doesn't it? lol, but no--i like it. The wheels are actual wheels (not that foam stuff), there is a tray on the front seat, and a tray up for the pusher to use. There isn't one for the back seat. Also, lol, it says taht its a one hand fold---um, no, its definately 2 hands. Even their online demo shows the lady using 2 hands, lol

I have the Phil and Teds e3 Twin.

http://www.philandteds.com/nz/twin_07_1.htm

I really like it. We walk a lot in the spring, summer, fall months and it is great for that. We also can put our Graco Snug ride on it too. The downfall that I've also read about in others' reviews - the stupid canopies work like crap! They pop out of their "pivot" points. Definitely something they need to fix. But overall it is a great stroller. We take it to the mall when we go and we get a lot of compliments on it. We do have to sometimes skip going in stores with narrow aisles...or I will run in while DH watches the kiddos. It's annoying, because it is only 29" wide and isn't wheelchair width 30"? My aunt is in a wheelchair and I can't imagine dealing with that everyday, every where you go!

magdesilver-thanks for your reply! I actually probably won't need to fold the stroller when getting on/off the bus. Anyone get this yet? I'm anxious to hear a review!

I am anxious for this as well. I have been holding out as long as possible for this stroller to come out, but I am registered on the Stroller Swap board and though I can't keep up with that board, I understood there to be concerns about how much child weight the stroller could hold. My local store is supposed to call me when they get in.

Mine are 3.5 months and 24 months (as of next week!) now and I really need a stroller! We have been getting by with the baby in the Snugrider and DS walking (depending on where we are going). I had a lady offer to hold his hand in a parking lot because she told me she didn't like to see a kid so young walking in a parking lot. At the mall I've used a borrowed DuoGlider which I hate, hate, hate. Maybe it's this particular one, but I can never get the Snugride in and out without a struggle, some sweat, and having to jerk poor DS2 around a bit. And it is so heavy and cumbersome!

I am now thinking I need a lightweight double stroller as well as the Valco w/ Toddler Seat but I'm still so confused by what to get...

I will be having baby #2 in July. My DS will be 3 1/2 when the baby comes. Can you ladies recommend some strollers for me to research. I don't think I want a side-by-side stroller because they seem difficult to manuever. Frankly I am not sure I should really even invest in a double stroller because my DS already gives me a headache about riding in his stroller. I just have this feeling that if I don't get one that all of a sudden he is going to want to be in the stroller again.

TIA

lcarlson-Congrats! I am not an expert, but you might be interested in the Valco Baby w/ Toddler seat option. http://www.valcobaby.com/2006/toddler.htm

My son was only 20 months when DS2 was born but was already hit-and-miss about being in a stroller. The best thing I did was borrow a Graco DuoGlider for the first few months so I could use both my Graco car seat snapped in AND have DS1 in the stroller. I am glad I didn't have to buy it 'cause it was a PITA to use even though it was the best solution for many of our outings. The problem with that is that if DS1 wanted out, he refused to get back in and it was impossible to push that thing AND keep an eye on him walking. So now we are pretty much using the car seat on the Snugrider frame and DS2 walks, but he's asking to be picked up all the time now! So I am back to looking at the Valco stroller above so that I can have one stroller in my car that I can use with both or either of them. I also think I need a lightweight double for things like the zoo and any upcoming travel, but my research on the side-by-side doubles is a few months old and I'm not sure what the "latest and greatest" (and LIGHTEST) are.

Finally got to test drive the Baby Jogger Citi Mini Double. It's not the stroller for us. I could NOT figure out the pull-fold. It was hilarious, my DH tried everything to help me get that maneuver down. I think I am just too short to reach down and pull up properly. I had bruised shins afterward! DS1 (30 lbs, 24 months old, and thick) seemed too big for it, he looked wedged in there, and he was resting too far back (even in the highest recline) for his taste.

We got a 2008 Zooper Tango. I realized I am not over being able to snap in my Graco Snugride. The Tango is really heavy and fills the trunk of my Sienna (managed to get the Snugrider frame back there, too). But I'm thrilled that this one stroller will fill our needs. I needed to have one stroller that will live in our car, will be taken out for walks in the neighborhood (it's not easy to get into our garage for a walking stroller) and will go on all of our errands AND the baby can be snapped into. If anyone needs pics, let me know.

Does anyone know of a sit n stand type stroller that 2 toddlers can stand/sit on the back? I've seen some sort of Peg stroller with a footboard. Do all of them come with that and if so, do you think you could fit 2 kids on it?

I'm due w/ #3 in June and my other girls will be 25 months and almost 4 at the time. My oldest doesn't really ride in a stroller anymore, but I know she will want a "ride" if she sees her 2 year old sister riding on the back. I don't really want to get a true double sit n stand w/ two full seats if I can help it. It seems really big and heavy! I'm looking for something easy to take to the mall.

On a side note, we have a double Bob, which I absolutely love and I need to see if they have a toddler seat attachment for trips around the neighborhood.

However, I haven't yet used the P&T as a double (soon, though!!) so I'm not sure how it will work as it hangs down the back. But the cup holders and multiple pockets are wonderful! I've used on my Bugaboo and Volo and love it there too. HTH!

The big debate has begun! I am due with #2 in August (prime walking season) and am currently considering two options. I was hoping to get a little advice/insight into which stroller anyone would recommend.

Double BOB - I am in love with our single BOB. I love everything but it's size. I'm worried the double would just be enormous. I do like the handlebar console which holds tons of stuff and that the both kids are at the same level.

PnT - I've seen a few of these in person, I live in Idaho so trendy things get her a little later than most places! I like the idea of how narrow it is and it would probably be our only double stroller. I don't like the sunshades, or lack thereof. We live in a very hot area.

Sooo, if anyone has any suggestions send them my way!

Thanks!

MMH - I have the double BOB and I can't say enough good things about it. It is wide, but not any wider than other double strollers out there. I always walk downtown and have only rarely not been able to fit through a doorway. I decided to get this instead of the phil & ted's b/c when I bought it my youngest was already almost one. I didn't think she would really want to sit under her sister. Plus, I was worried about her grabbing onto the wheels. I'm so happy with our decision.

depending on the function, i'd take a look at the mountain buggy urban double. we just ordered ours on sale from albeebaby.com for the same price as the bob. we chose it over the bob b/c it's a full 3 inches narrower... doesn't seem like much, but when you are trying to fit through a door or narrow sidewalk, 3 inches can make all the difference in the world. also, it's much easier to clean (the fabrics come off and there's actually a whole community of folks who trade/ buy and sell them to get new colors). it's a top of the line all terrain that's great for walking and light jogging. (the bob with the 16 inch wheels is a *true* jogger so if you are a runner, go for that one). the footprint is smaller than the bob so if we did want to take it indoors, it would be easier to manage than the bob. we pushed both, and felt the mbud pushed just as well if not better than the bob without the 'bouncy' feel of the bob which sort of annoyed me (a feature meant for running).

other small things that annoyed me about the bob... i didn't like that it folded with the fabric out b/c it seemed it would allow it to get dirty easier. and the foot plate is fabric which seemed it would be a dirt magnet with muddy playground shoes kicking there. and i think i remember that the fabric wasn't removable for washing. (you can also hose the mbud down with a hose). when we tried it out, i found that b/c of the 3 wheels, it got tippy when dd1 tried to climb in/out of the stroller by herself. oh, and it didn't offer a true bumper bar... you had to use the this metal bar that you also use to attach the car seat and instead, attach this plastic snack tray which beyond being cheap looking, was pretty useless since it sits pretty far foward and the seats are back and reclined. oh, and the seats didn't recline flat for newborns and i'm not a big fan of letting the baby hang out in the car seat for long stretches.

the shades on the bob are better than the mbud, but you can always add a ray shade or solarveil blanket.

ETA: i believe albeebaby is also the 'baby outlet' vendor on ebay and you can often get a cheaper price there than on the albee site... even when there are sales.

forgot about the P&T....

we looked at this one and plan to get one once dd2 (3 months old) is 1+. the reasons we didn't get this one from the start are:

- i wasn't comfortable with the infant/ toddler set up. it didn't provide any sun protection for the toddler in the jump seat in front and it was difficult to take the baby out of the main seat in the infant position. using the car seat in front with the toddler in back isn't recommended b/c of tippiness (though i know some people do this) but again, i'm not a big fan of letting the baby hang out in the car seat for long periods (i LOVED our bassinet on our bugaboo and we used it until dd1 was 5 months old).

- once dd2 was 6 months old, they say she'd be ok to go in the jump seat in back, but i didn't like the idea of her down so low... in particular b/c we live in a neighborhood with lots of car traffic so she'd be right at exhaust level on our walks.

- the jump seat has limited recline functions which i think are important for infants.

- P&T are supposed to be coming out with 3 new models this year and i wanted to see what they were like first.

overall, i feel it's a great stroller for a toddler/toddler set up and will be a great back of the car/ mall stroller b/c of the width and weight. i actually will prefer it to our current umbrella sbs (a babyplanet) because i find that the umbrellas feel flimsy, are still pretty wide (ours is only 2 inches narrower than our MBUD all terrain), and they aren't versatile enough to handle rough sidewalks, etc.

Thanks for the advice ladies! I will probably end up with a BOB, they have me hooked. Plus they are made right here in Idaho. Now, I just need to find a BOB employee and become friends with them and get a discount ;)

Ohhh, the Jane Powertwin looks promising.

This is probably a really dumb question, but how do you find out which strollers are compatible with your infant carrier? FWIW, I have the Combi Tyro II. I know for sure that I want a double stroller and I don't want to buy a new carrier because we only used the one we have now for 4 months with DS#1. I know the obvious answer is to buy a Combi double, but I want to research all of my options first. Any ideas?

Thanks, ladies, for all of the valuable info I've found while lurking here. :)

I'm just researching since we hope to have a #2 in the near future. I love the P&T sport double, but I have a question about its setup when using an infant carrier. Does the bucket go in the bottom seat? Also the P&T site says that if you buy a sport single and add the double kit, the seat attaches to the front or rear of the buggy-I'm having trouble picturing where the seat would go on the front. Has anyone come across any pics of this stroller in its different configurations? TIA.

That was very helpful, pinkbeary. Thanks!

I do have one more question. I'm not sure if it was covered in the video. I'm not sure why, but I could barely hear it. If you are using the bucket carrier, the seat must be completely reclined, correct? So it could only be used as a single when using the bucket? Also, it seems like it could be tippy with the heavy infant carrier up so high. Anyone have experience with that? Okay, two questions.:)

Technically, yes. However, I used my P&T with my bucket (Graco Snugride) by just reclining the main seat with the zippers. The seat then supported the bucket. It's not how you're supposed to use it, and the company obviously wouldn't accept responsibility if your kids got hurt doing it that way, but it worked for us. I didn't want to pay for the car seat converter bar thing, because I only used my stroller with the bucket a handful of times.

I also had a really small toddler (14 months, around 20 pounds) when DD was born, so I was still able to put him in the second seat in the back. You're not supposed to do this at all, because it could cause the stroller to tip. But my toddler was soooo tiny that he weighed less than my newborn and her car seat added together, so it wasn't a problem for us. I wouldn't recommend it, though, if your toddler is much bigger/older.

Also, it seems like it could be tippy with the heavy infant carrier up so high. Anyone have experience with that?
It's not tippy at all. It's a very solid stroller.

Kiley - the Zooper (http://www.zooper.com) website has great new pics of the Tango.

Here's what I have so far:

Not strapped in and baby is on a blanket but here is 24-month DS1 (he's maybe 27 lbs??) and 3.5 month DS2 (13 lbs or so). Backs of canopies can be removed to just mesh for circulation as seen on baby's side. Where baby's feet are that zips up on sides to form secure "basinet" feature.

Folded in my Sienna next to Snugrider frame. Back bench seat of car is really upright in order to fit Snugrider frame at that angle.

We jusr bought a 2008 Baby Jogger City Series Classic Double. For us the main selling point of the baby jogger over the mountain buggy/bob/valco was the fold and ability to fit into the trunk of my accord. DH hated the phil & Ted b/c he kicked the toddler seat when walking. I really wanted to like the Baby Jogger Mini but DS who is 2.5(~29 lbs) looked smushed.

baby jogger mini - those looking at it should probably avoid it for a while until the company works out the kinks. there's apparently a fabric fraying issue.

jane powertwin - neat stroller. but the seats are VERY small. it wouldn't be a good fit for a toddler and infant. maybe for twins, but you shouldn't expect to use it past 2 or 3 depending on your kids size. our dd1 is a peanut (only 31 inches and 25 lbs at 22 months) and she fills the seats with no room to grow.

Ditto. And I'm an idiot and couldn't figure out how to fold it.

ETA: Okay, more pics of the Zooper Tango for Kiley and anyone else...

With Graco Snugride attached and also a Carry You snack tray thing on the toddler's side.

The strap for securing infant seat:

It pushes really easy even with one hand when DS1 was out of it today. I also took it on a long walk this weekend and it did really well on the extremely bumpy/uneven sidewalk considering that it is not an all-terrain or anything.

The basket on the bottom is a good size but almost impossible to access if the seats are reclined. The recline is SUPER easy--one-hand and you just pull a lever on the back of each seat.

P&T is about to start a promotion with some of their distributors. order a navy, black, red or lime stroller and get the doubles kit for free. so the entire P&T double is just $399. i know strollermama and letsgostrolling are on the list, but i'm not sure who else. if you order out of state and can get a free shipping, you'd save a good amount.

by the way, i'm guessing they are doing this because sometime in the next several months, the new versions of the P&T double are coming out.

If I were allowed to get another stroller, that Zooper looks GREAT!

Baby Jogger City Series Double--Just wanted to come back and report that after using my BJCSD this past week--finally with TWO kids--I definitely am happy with the purchase.

LIKES

Easy peasy fold.
It's really not that heavy! (I lifted it into the back of my Saab wagon alone less than 2 weeks post c/s.)
Pushes like a dream, even steers one-handed
Seats recline enough that I don't NEED the infant seat adapter for my newborn (though she's 10+lbs already and has good head control)

DISLIKES

Basket is almost unusable b/c it's so hard to get to. I fit 4 coats in it, though.
WTH do I do with my diaper bag?
No parent tray (which I know is fixable)
People look at you like you're pushing a tank
Doesn't fit between racks in stores (though that is a store issue, because it's not wider than a wheelchair, and by law the aisles should be wider)

Like I said, overall, I L-O-V-E the BJCSD. We decided to go with it because we wanted a "multi-use" stroller, definitely one that would work all-terrain.

As for the Mini, I can't imagine how tiny the seats must be, as my 24lb, 33" 18 month old fits comfortably in the BJCSD; she'd be squished, I'm sure!

It is supposed to be for one item but it is working on if you order multiple items currrently.
If you use ground shipping its free and depending on what state you live in you may have no tax. Also, use ebates for an addiitonal 5%. Great deal!

Leslie, I wanted to answer your question but kept hoping someone more "experienced" than me would know more and could better answer. I have a Graco Snugride and the only doubles I knew it was "made for" were the Gracos and the Zooper Tango, which is what I eventually bought. I tried to investigate your question on the StrollerSwap board by doing a few searches but didn't get much info. Definitely seems like the Combi doubles accept only Combi seats, but I don't more more than that. The Combi was the lightest weight double we found when we were first searching. The Peg Perego 60/40 double can accommodate an infant seat on one side, but it says a Peg seat, and I don't know if that means other brands will work or not. As you'll read here, some strollers will "unofficially" hold a seat, meaning they don't advertise it but moms find a way to do it that they feel is secure. From what I have read here, the P&T can somehow hold an infant seat.

ETA: This is what letsgostrolling.com (http://www.letsgostrolling.com/2008-zooper-tango-double-stroller.html) says about the Zooper Tango:
Infant car seat compatibility: Graco SnugRide, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio(2006 or earlier), Britax Companion, Evenflo On My Way:Please note that Peg Perego carseats with a manufacturer date of 2007 (see sticker on seat) will not fit securely in this model.

Taurus, thanks so much for taking the time to research it for me. I ended up emailing Combi and this is the response I just got:

The Tyro II car seat was discontinued in 2005 and replaced with the Connection car seat. Combi never offered a twin stroller that accepted the Tyro II. We do not know of any twin stroller that would accept that car seat.

I am so pissed. I really, really don't want to buy another carrier. It seems wasteful. My thoughts are now to wear #2 and continue to use our stroller with DS until #2 outgrows the carrier or DS can be trusted to walk without running away. This only works for store/mall situations, though. ugh.

I did that for a while, just threw DS in the carrier. If you are going to do that, you may as well just find a double where the seat reclines flat and put the baby straight in the stroller. The Combi SBS I had reclined flat, and had a protective boot thing that stopped the baby from falling out through the leg hole. I had a tandem Combi, and I was able to just sit my Peg Perego infant seat in it when I needed to for a really quick trip (it was stable, though I know Combi would not want to know I did that, LoL!)

How old will your older child be when the baby comes? My DD was 18 months when DS was born, and we used the Combi tandem in the very beginning, but then DS outgrew the infant seat at 4 months anyway. I would say we used that set up maybe 3 times? Otherwise, I would either put DS in a carrier and push DD in a stroller, or just put DS in the stroller without the infant seat.

Ditto this. I had the Combi SBS when DS was born. If he wasn't in a sling, he was right in the stroller with the seat reclined all the way. I was never bothered by not being able to put the carrier in the stroller. FWIW, I always used the carrier in the stroller when both DD's were babies.

Does anyone know anything about the Sit 'n Stand Elite Double Stroller from One Step Ahead?

http://content.onestepahead.com/assets/images/product/detail/13130.jpg
Given the negative feedback on the mini double, I think this is the one I'm leaning toward now. My friend said the Jane Power Twin is already too small for her 20 month old avg. boy and she says she uses this one all the time now. I'm sure I'll get a Mac SBS at some point, too. Of course, I have 6 more months to find another one (or two).

I talked to a woman at the mall who had one, and she really liked it (I almost asked her if I could push it, but couldn't get the nerve.) I have the Joovy Caboose Ultralight, and I use it just for shopping. Compared to the Combi Counterpart Tandem, it is a dream push. I am sort of a "push snob" for lack of a better word, and the Joovy is pretty cool. I agree the Jane Powertwin is small. I took my DD (then 17 months) to try it out, and she was pretty much filling up the seat (she is avg. for height / weight). There is no way at her size now (almost 3) she would fit in it comfortably. For long trips, we have a side by side double, but for shopping / mall the Caboose works great.

Leslie, is there any way you can line up a couple of strollers to try/borrow when you have DC2 so that you can see what you need or use? I find that DS1 (24 months) has gone through diff stages of wanting to walk/ride/be picked up etc since the baby has been here, and I had to get a sense of what is most practical for me. You might find you need something different than what you expect when the baby is here.

Taurus, I think I may actually ask some of my friends if I can try theirs out. DS is 2.5 now and runs away as soon as he's given the chance. He holds hands nicely 80% of the time, but I can't imagine pushing a stroller and holding his hand. I really shouldn't sell him short and say he won't change by then, but I guess I'm just not very opitmisitc.:p

How does your DD like the Joovy? My mom and I looked at one (not sure which model) at BRU last week as this was my original stroller plan. She didn't think DS would dig sitting facing me instead of forwards and kind of turned me off the idea. Semi-O/T, but is there any kind of snack tray that can be snapped on there in the back?

ETA: One more question, if you recline the front seat, does that take away the option for the older child to ride on the back?

Koala_Gurl
01-28-2008, 12:31 PM
Oh, you brought up a good point...the recline. The front seat doesn't recline well (not nearly enough for a newborn...maybe a 6 month old or a strong younger baby?) It does have an infant seat attachment (check their website, I am not sure but I think it holds "most" infant seats.) I am not sure if the seat needs to recline or not. But yes with the seat reclined there is still room for a toddler in back (the TS slides out and in). Sometimes DD sits facing forward on her knees, or stands. Other times she sits facing me. Not sure about a snack tray...we haven't really needed one so far.

LeslieR
01-28-2008, 12:35 PM
Oh, that's cool! Did not know it slid in and out. I think DS would think it was fun to sit forward by kneeling. Next time I need to bring him with me to try it out. Sometimes it's just easier shopping without him, ya know?

I think I'm leaning towards getting some type of sit n stand for our situation. DS will be 3 when our new one comes in July. So if I understand correctly, my options are:

The Joovy Caboose (http://www.strollerdepot.com/moreinfo.php?SKU=1050)
The Joovy Caboose Ultralight (http://www.strollerdepot.com/moreinfo.php?SKU=1054)
Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand LX (http://www.strollerdepot.com/moreinfo.php?SKU=1005)
Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand Plus (http://www.strollerdepot.com/moreinfo.php?SKU=1002)

Also, I see those on One Step Ahead (http://www.onestepahead.com). Are those made by Baby Trend, because they look just like them!

After studying all of the above I'm still not sure. My biggest concerns are that my toddler will hate not being in the front, in which case they are all ruled out. I really don't want to bring him to shop for it, because he can make these things even harder when he decides he needs something else entirely. The other concern I have is I worry he will bail off the thing. I see there is a 3-point harness on the back of the Baby Trend stroller. Is it the only one that has one? I would love advice from anybody who has any of these.

susie - I read a review on amazon (I think) in which the dad said they were able to put the baby carrier in back on the SnS plus (the one with two seats) so the toddler could ride up front. Yep, the ones on One Step Ahead are by Baby Trend. They seem to be sightly nicer with the rubber wheels.
