Know any good resources online for patio/lawn furniture? I'm looking for a couple of nice chairs that recline with a matching ottomans for our yard. Can be made of metal or wood.
thanks.

You could try Walmart (http://www.walmart.com). My DH and the kids got me this set there last year for my birthday. I love it and we get compliments on it all the time.
The set includeed the oval table, 6 reclining chairs, 2 ottomans and a small round side table. We got the umbrella separately at a local close out store.

You could also try the websites for Home Depot and Lowe's.

Have you seen Restoration Hardware's outdoor line?

We bought a great set (not reclining however) at Costco. Stone table top, etc. I'd also suggest Plow & Hearth catalog. They have great adirondiak (sp?) chairs and ottomans at a more reasonable price than I've seen elsewhere.
I got ours (high-end) from a tiny Mom-n-Pop place in the 'burbs of Minneapolis. It's made by Tropitone (http://www.tropitone.com) and ours is from the Sling Collection: Somerset.

Try Ikea. We got our wooden furniture there, here's a bad pic:

We had the hardest time finding a larger table or one one with a leaf, and this one has fold-down sides that makes the table 120" or so long. We also have a bench that goes with the set. We could seat up to 10 people at it if necessary.
I just saw you were looking for a living-room type set. Ikea also has those, too. Well, they did. They might not be restocking, and it looks like there's not much left on the website. But it's worth a shot if you have one near you.

My FI and I have found some patio furniture that we just love at Lowes. We are afraid to buy it right now because we don't know if there is a better time for sales and such. Does anyone have exp. with this. Would we be better off to wait to buy the stuff. Is it likely to go one sale sometime between now and summer or should we just take the plunge??

With Lowes, I would say if it is not already on sale now, it most likely will go on sale in the future. So I would wait.
We bought our set at Walmart in August and saved $100.

I say wait also. Summer items tend to go on sale at the begining of spring and at the end of summer....so I'd wait. My DH got me a great set for my birthday last year, and he got it on sale (in May).

We got our patio set for a steal last summer (right before the 4th of July) from Target. We held out and held our breath that it would still be in stock, but it paid off because we got a $700 set for about $250. We got our table for even less than the rest of the stuff because it was the only one left and was the floor model.
If you can, I'd say wait.

I have to agree, that with a big store like Lowes it will likely go on sale for very cheap. However, I am always the one who loves the style that get's sold out! So, it's a toss up to me, if I REALLY love it, I would get it soon to ensure I have what I love. If it's the best that's available/around, I would wait until it goes on sale, something you 'like' on sale can turn into something you love!
(k, I am cheap... so that makes most of my decisions!)

This is our set. My DH and DD got it for my birthday 2 years ago - he got it from Walmart. It has an oval glass table, 6 chairs that recline all the way back, a small round table and 2 ottoman's. They also got me the outdoor fireplace for Mother's Day. My DH bought the umbrella separately at Home Depot, and the color happened to match perfectly.

I love that set, BsstGrl! :) We have a cute little bistro-style table (I think it's a Martha Stewart table from K-Mart), but we need to get some new chairs to go with it. I'll have to try to remember to take pictures to share. :)

My pics are in Shutterfly & on my other computer, so I'll post them in a little bit. They really aren't all that expensive for such an awesome set of furniture. I practically live on my front porch when the weather is decent.

I have this one, which I just got from Lowes. It was on sale, and I got a GREAT deal on it. Much less than any of the other sets we were considering!

Now we just need an umbrella and a base, and we'll be set. This is the first summer we've had a back yard, and it'a been so great to be able to sit out on the deck at night and eat dinner. :D

Bump! Looking for cute and cheap all-weather patio furniture. We have two decks to fill, so I'm wanting a bistro set for the upper deck and a larger dining set with umbrella for down below. Is Walmart generally the cheapest? I really despise shopping there, but I will if the price is right.

I hate Walmart too, but it just happened to be where DH got our set.
I'm sure you'll be able to find good deals at Target, Home Depot, Lowes, and even Sears this time of year. It seems like everything is on sale anticipating summer.

Yes! Sales abound. We got ours at Home Depot and love it! I don't have it set up yet, so I don't have any pics. Hopefully, our deck will be finished this weekend. Then we'll set it up and I'll take some pictures. We to a glass top table, with 4 swivel rocking chairs for $499. The umbrella and stand were extra. The stand was $40 and the umbrella was $169 (I think).

We got a great set at home depot last year. it's a glass-top table, four fabric covered folding chairs, and an umbrella for $80. We bought it in late July when patio furniture was starting to go on sale.

wahhwahh, which Delaney set do you mean? There's the dining set, the chat set and the sectional set.
I tried out the sectional set, and it's comfy, but it sat really low to the ground. Not good for my 6'5" tall DH.
The dining set is cute. I may have to go check that out.

We got the chat set last summer. It's quite nice and sturdy for the price, but the cushions -- ours were red -- faded a lot. At least they faded evenly!

Just wondering what type of patio furniture everyone has either wicker, metal, wood?? and what the advantages? Where did you purchase? How often do you wash the cushions etc? or if you just want to post which one you have feel free. TIA!

Hey Gen -- We have metal-framed slingback chairs (2 swivel, 4 stationary) and a metal-framed table with a glass top, all from Sears. It's similar to this, but we don't have an umbrella (our patio is shaded in the afternoon/evening by 2 giant redwoods), and we have two swivel chairs plus 4 regular chairs instead of 6 regular chairs:
http://s7.sears.com/is/image/Sears/07180500000
I like it because I can just hose everything off before we need to use it and it dries quickly. (Our patio is shaded by giant redwoods, so our patio furniture gets pretty dirty.) We've had it for about 3 years now, and it still looks brand new. We kept it covered for the first winter, but were lazy and didn't cover it for the past two winters, and it has held up really well. The fabric hasn't stiffened from exposure at all. DH wanted furniture with real cushions, but we really don't have enough space on our patio to store them when we're not using them.

We just got ours this weekend because we were having company over and needed it! Please ignore the fact that everything looks unfinished around it....it is! Our backyard has a very loooong way to go to being complete. :o

We bought it at Garden Ridge, on sale for $250. It may not be the best set in the world but it is very sturdy and cute, IMO. Now, if we could get everything around it done, it would look like it belongs!!

I love the green cushions!
We just bought a new patio set (http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=1&Ntk=level1&Dx=mode+matchall&langId=-15&catNav=3&storeId=10051&Ntx=mode+matchall&catalogId=&N=120255&Nty=1) from Home Depot, and had it delivered because it was too big to fit in our van. DH spent three hours putting it together only to discover that three of the six chairs are broken, and the table has a huge flaw in the wrought iron. He's really not pleased at the idea of not only having to fight with them to return it, but to deliver a new set - and then having to put THAT new set together! :(

I've looked at :
Pottery Barn
Restoration Hardware
Smith and Hawken
Frontgate
(Target, Lowes and HD are sold out in my area and aren't quite what I'm looking for anyway)
Any other ideas?
What about Crate and Barrell?

No go at C&B-thanks though.
I feel like I have shopped everywhere and just can't find what I really want. I don't even mind spending big $$--but I just can't find what meets my needs. I'm so bummed out. I hate to spend $$ on something that I don't love--but we really need furniture. :(

grandin road, ballard, the costco site
do you know what you're looking for? i've been shopping for patio furnture for a looong time. i spent 2 yrs looking for what i wanted and never found it, i eventually just bought some stuff from target to hold me over until i find my dream furniture. my problem is that i really want antique/vintage stuff and that's going to involve a lot of digging around to find it. do you have one of those high-end patio furniture stores around you? i always to forget to check there, but i'm also not interested in spending that much.

Yes, I've looked at the Patio stores in my area. One of the main problems I keep running into is that the chairs are so heavy that you can't easily move them around. The occasional chairs are about 50 lbs before cushions. I wanted something that I could keep under the porch and easily move 10 feet to sit around the (built in stone) fire pit. But a 50lb chair is too awkward.
So if I start looking at stuff to keep around the fire pit full time, then nothing seems comfortable that is ok to leave exposed (ie not under roof).
Right now I am leaning towards this set from PB. http://www.potterybarn.com/pbimgs/rk/images/products/200730/0004/img58m.jpg
with these chairs around the fire http://www.potterybarn.com/pbimgs/rk/images/products/200732/0002/img2m.jpg
But I feel very concerned about the durability of those wicker chairs.
While nice, the PB set is a far cry from what I almost bought on Tuesday
http://www.summerclassics.com/graphics/sectionpic_10294.jpg
The other "problem" is that I feel like I would get so much more seating if I went with a sectional. I've never owned one before and feel nervous about that. But an L shaped group is just what I need. With an L group I leave lots of open space, but have the option to pull more chairs up (the ones from the firepit). Or I can divide up the pieces from the sectional. Most companies do not make sectionals. Hence the PB option.

i'm not sure what the pb wicker is made out of, but i had a wicker target set that was that plastic kind of wicker and it was completely indestructible -- we left it out uncovered for over a year and it looked brand new. i'd probably still get covers to cover everything though, esp to protect the cushions -- i don't think pb uses sunbrella. i'd also probably just look at getting 2 different sets, we have 3 sets of furniture and i think i'd get annoyed even dragging the lighter pieces around to different areas -- i think those large chairs would look good with four of them around a circular firepit. we have a conversation set (sofa, 2 chairs, coffee table and when we have larger group over, people just pull chairs up on the other side of it.
BeachBum
08-11-2007, 02:00 PM
That is good to know about the plastic wicker in general. It makes me feel a bit better. :)
Just to be clear, I just wanted to be able to move the chairs around to provide extra seating for parties--not for an everyday kind of thing.
My PB has the chesapeke sectional and the indoor wicker in stock. The saleslady told me that the outdoor wicker pieces would sit the same. They were not comfortable to us--so it looks like that is out for now. I'm so glad I didn't just order them.
I really should stop shopping because the more I look the more expensive it gets. I guess part of the problem is that I need quite a bit of furniture. I need a full lounge/conversation group to go under my porch (where I was thinking about the sectional) and armchairs to go around the firepit. I thought my budget was generous, but the things I really loved are more than that (local patio store).
I hate to spend several thousand for something and not love it--but yet I can't quite bring myself to spend more than that either.
