Who we are:

We are a group of women who for 1 reason or another want to shed a few (or more) lbs. We need the encouragement of others no matter their size or goal and we thrive in an atmosphere where we can all support one another.

Want to join the fun?!?

We welcome one and all. It doesn’t matter what diet you are on (if any) or how many miles a week you run (if any) we will all find lots of help and support here.

Feel free to join at any time during the challenge.
It’s better to join NOW than to wait until we start a new challenge!

GOALS: I have 2 goals this challenge. Be in the 190's by my 5th wedding anniversary next Friday. I don't care if it is 199.9 so long as there is a 1 on the scale as the first digit! Also, i set my goal weight at -10 but it would sure be great to not be obese like jesseybell said! I think that will be my secret goal. We'll have to see how things go i guess.

I just have to add that June 8th is our 5th wedding anniversary and I weigh less now than I did the day we got married. I'm pretty much in the same size clothing but it feels great to know that not only do I weigh less but I know I'm more fit too (I had stopped exercising and caring what I ate about 6 months before our wedding). That's a huge thing for me!

Known issues: I don't know if this is an issue, per say, but I really need to eat more fiber and that is one of my eating goals. Even with a supplement, it is so difficult to get to my target of 25-30g per day! Also, I have always put on muscle very quickly, which isn't a bad thing, but it makes the scale's progress frustratingly slow, which sometimes causes me to lose motivation. I know my scale will always have numbers that seem large for me height, as even when I was a serious dancer and a size 2 or 4, I weighed in the upper 120's. But when the numbers don't move at all, it's hard to be satisfied with just thinking I see changes in my legs and arms, or feeling like maybe my jeans are a bit looser.

Also, I have always put on muscle very quickly, which isn't a bad thing, but it makes the scale's progress frustratingly slow, which sometimes causes me to lose motivation. I know my scale will always have numbers that seem large for me height, as even when I was a serious dancer and a size 2 or 4, I weighed in the upper 120's. But when the numbers don't move at all, it's hard to be satisfied with just thinking I see changes in my legs and arms, or feeling like maybe my jeans are a bit looser.


THIS IS ME TOO - GLAD I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. It is very frustrating at times. My other problem is that the muscle is not yet developing in the places where I most need it to like my waistline area ;) so that is annoying - sure it is great I have lost 17.5 inches elsewhere, but come on.

I was a runner and in the upper 120's to low 130's - wish I had realized then that I really was thin. I was younger and just didn't get it. :o

I am the same way. I played softball and volleyball all 4 years of high school and volleyball my freshman year of college. I was so thin and I thought I was soooo fat! My goal weight now is what I weighed in high school :rolleyes: Why do we do that to ourselves???

Linz - I hope My Boys lasts, I love it too. Something light hearted with a cute cast - I don't expect much from TV these days, but I like that one becuase it's a break from all the medical dramas and CSI-type shows out there. And that kiss was seriously one of the hottest kisses I've seen done on TV. LOL. :D Interesting to see where that goes when the show is back at the end of July.

Add me to that group as well. Before I got pregnant I was about 135 lbs. and I thought I was HUGE! I look at pictures of myself and only wish I could look like that again. Even if I get back to that weight I will never have my tight tummy again. Now I have this lovely baby doughy belly sag going on. *sigh* I could almost just hit myself for ever thinking I looked horrible or wearing shorts over my bathing suit b/c I thought I was to fat to be in public in a swimsuit. :rolleyes:


So far things are not going well. I'm exercising well but my eating has got to stop. I do well all day and then something happens around 10 pm. I think I have to have some diet coke and something salty. That is a habit I had during pregnancy and it's a habit I need to stop!

I had my daughter the end of March. I feel your frustration!! I work out a ton and eat well but the scale just is not moving!! I lost 25 the first week then 10 since that. Since then it is so slow (I gained a ton!) We will get there!

I completely agree with you guys about thinking I used to be fat. I actually have to watch myself now though. I'm back down to where I was before I got married (which is actually 20 lbs. less than I weighed in high school) although my body isn't. Despite working out 5 days a week with combined cardio and strength/sculpting I have a flabby gut from my first pregnancy. So there are times I look in the mirror and think how heavy I am. I know how quickly that can turn into eating disorders so I'm keeping myself in check and asking my DH to help me. I want to be healthy-not slip into unhealthy, life-threatening habits. It truly is scary how easy it would be to develop an eating disorder.

Pewee: I gained a ton too, 40 something pounds and I've lost 29 so far but I need to lose at least another 30 to be back to where I was a few months before I got pregnant. I seriously don't think I can work any harder at this other than dropping my late night snacking.

Ah, ladies, don't beat yourself up if you just had kids in March. I had mine 2 yrs ago and finally realized I needed to lose the baby weight this past January. I gained 40 while pregnant, lost 20 of it in the first month or two, and the rest wasn't budging without adding exercise and watching what I ate. Nursing didn't help me much either in the weight-loss area. I'm finally feeling better about myself (I'm almost 10 lbs less than my pre-pregnancy weight), but that tummy ain't going anywhere (or the stretch marks) so I won't wear a string bikini ever (not that I ever did) but I'm proud of that tummy!

I thought I would be back to 201.0 by the beginning of the challenge after my cruise, but alas I was not (and still am not) so I had to adjust my starting weight. Hope to be back to 201.0 by next Thursday (or even sooner). 199.8 is so close I can feel it.

DD is almost 10 months old and since we went on vacation without her a bunch of people are thinking we used that time to start ttc#2. Not yet people!!! I am finally starting to feel good about myself, despite the recent gain. I actually started exercising. I want a couple of months to drop 10-15 lbs before I start gaining it all back again. I would love it if at 40 weeks I was the same weight I was when I got pg with #1.

Hi all! I just found this thread and would like to join if I'm not too late. A little background: been overwt all my life, tried dieting several times but never seem to be able to stick to it. Currently seeing a dietician since Jan. and have been going to TOPS for about 4 years now. I'll use my TOPS WI's for this challenge, our meetings are on Wednesdays. Ok I charged my start weight to reflect what the 'gym locker room' scale says. The fancy one that I was using when I was in there program was 3 pounds lighter always but I no longer have access to it. I am excited for Friday morning I am going in to be under water weighed to get my actual goal weight. I am interest to see how different my lean body mass is from the last time I had it done.

Things are NOT going well this week. I'm terrified of my Thursday weigh in. My excercise is going well but my eating is terriable. During the day I do great (no carbs all day, only at dinner) but once I get DS to bed and DH goes to bed I want to snack while I surf CC. I think what I need to do if I can't control myself is get my butt in bed too! Tomorrow is a new day, NO MORE NIGHT SNACKING!!!!

Well I had WI today but I'm not sure how to record this... here's the situation... At my TOPS group we got a new scale, today was the first day using it. All the members WI on the old scale and the new scale, the new one consistantly weight everyone about 1.75# pounds heavier. So according to the old scale I was down 2.25#, but the new scale shows a loss of 0.5#. I guess at the meeting they are using the weights from the new scale today so I guess I'll do that as my loss, even though it's less.

I'm actually considering this a huge accomplishment that I only gained 0.2. This past Friday was our 5th anniversary and we went on a car trip. I caved and ate soooo much junk and didn't get myself straightened back out until Tuesday! I was so afraid to step on the scale this morning but was pleased it wasn't as bad as I had thought. Phew!

Does anyone know if anitbiotics can cause water retention or prevent weight loss? I had a yeast infection and then a bacterial infection so i used 3 round of yi meds and then had a weeks worth of antibiotics that i just finished this morning. Yesterday along i weighed 201 in the morning and 204 at night time! I know you can't compare morning to evening weight but if i am in that range then i likely didn't lose anything and i'm amazed that weight can fluctuate so much in 12 hours! lol. I guess i'm just hoping to see a dramatic drop now that i've finished the antibiotics. Wishful thinking?

Abirney- I'd do exactly what you do and just start using the new scale weights. It sucks but after a few wi's it will even out and you'll see a consistent loss.

I just found a list of potential bloating triggers here (http://www.drdonnica.com/faqs/00002406.htm):

Hormonal changes of PMS
Eating certain foods (sugar, starches, salt)
Drinking too much alcohol (amount differs for different women; usually just two or more drinks can do it)
Being sedentary
Lengthy travel or prolonged sitting for any reason
Certain medicines (e.g. hormone replacement therapy, progesterone, antihistamines, aspirin, antidepressants, and antibiotics)

I can totally feel the bloat in my belly because I just feel well, fat. I know i'm WAY overweight but lately, for the most part, i've been comfortable. These past few days i've just felt like i'm pulling my weight along with me. Hopefully it's just the antibiotics and by the end of the weekend all of the water weight is gone and i don't feel as big as a house anymore.

ETA: It's kind of weird but apparently some antibiotics prevent bloating and others cause it.
ETAA: Here are some of the side effects of my medication: stomach upset, loss of appetite, constipation, headache, or metallic taste. Which explains the bad taste i've had in my mouth! lol. But also the gassiness which would mean an intestinal upset thus bloating and would explain why i really feel it around my belly like i said earlier. I guess that's mystery solved.

I thought I was bloated last week, but then I wasn't sure if it was that or that I had been eating a lot at social events. I didn't do all that spectacularly eating-wise while out of town, so I'm pleased with the slight loss over two weeks. I really wanted to hit 149 (my magic number for a healthy BMI) by the end of this challenge, but it looks like that probably won't happen. Oh well...slow and steady, right?
