View Full Version : Pre-seed

Have you used it? Was it worth it?
Someone at that *other* site - pretty sure it was Phen - had a great way of putting it:
Pre-Seed does not increase your odds of conception. It's not a fertility booster.
It only doesn't decrease your odds of conceiving (by killing off sperm as some lubes do). If you don't need lube, don't use it. There's lots of anecdotal evidence ("first cycle we used it, we conceived!") which is great, but if it wasn't coincidental, and was related to lube use, it was due to the discontinuing of sperm-killing lubes, and not due to the introduction of a sperm-turbo-charger. :)

Thanks :) The reason I was wondering about it is because something (either the Femara or the trigger shot, I'm guessing) is killing my CM.

I used preseed twice. One month I got a BFN, one month I got a BFP. As BTB said, it probably wasn't the Preseed! It's an o.k. lube, though.

A *much* cheaper alternative is FemGlide.

I second the FemGlide recommendation. Pre-Seed really pisses me off. Seriously, they charge, like, a bazillion dollars for their stuff and then they put it in those ridiculous applicators so you end up using way more than you need, just so they can get you to order more of it. It's such a scam.
Yeah. They suck. I ordered a tube of FemGlide for about $6, and I still have a fat ton of it left.

I used Pre-Seed, but not the month that we conceived!
If you want to try it out, Nigellas, I have an extra unopened tube that I could put in the mail to you. Just let me know. :)

Shoot! I guess I should have waited a bit longer before ordering it (I was getting antsy since I'm triggering on Friday). Thanks everyone for your input (and Thanks J&K for the offer!) If this doesn’t work out I'll definitely look into FemGlide.

Just curious if preseed is worth the money. Comment are appreciated.

No. It's a fine lubricant, but it's overpriced. You can order FemGlide, which is also sperm-friendly, off drugstore.com for less than $7.

Nope. I hated it. I do very well in that department naturally but needed it when I was on clomid. I felt it was sticky compared to what I produce naturally and sort of "wore off" after a short while.

I tried FemGlide for the first time this cycle. I really like it, but DH said it felt too thick. I think we'll compromise and only use it during possibly fertile times (and AstroGlide the rest of the time). Just a warning, though -- I ordered the larger bottle, and it would last YEARS. Seriously, a little goes a looooooong way with this stuff. I'd go with the smaller bottle if I were you.

it is overpriced, although cheaper now than it was. wherever i got it, it was always free shipping.
i liked it during TTC time because the on-demand BDing was really difficult. i didn't use a whole tube each time, though. i would just use whatever amount i needed at the time, so it definitely lasted longer that way.
i haven't tried femglide, so i can't compare!

I just ordered it off the TCOYF site to try this cycle. It seemed cheaper there than other places - I belive 6 tubes for $18?

I HATE the stupid applicators it comes in. Bleh!

Just a quick comment-I don't really have a lot of fertile quality CM so we used preseed and conceived both times the first cycle. So while it's overpriced I definitely think it's worth the money :D

We didn't really like it, especially for the money.
I wanted to pipe in to add the other big problem with it that hasn't come up here yet. Preseed is a lube, it's not meant to replace CM. The fertile CM needs to be in the cervix, and all the preseed in the world isn't going to help that. The preseed doesn't go into the cervix.
So if you have NO CM, preseed isn't going to help. If you have very little CM, pre-seed can help. But I'd say get the Femglide.

How many of you acutally used this and got pg, and on what cycle of using it. MY Dh and I have been trying a year and I am now going to be going onto my third cycle of clomid, this month my dr. is bumping me up to 150 mg. So I was thinking about looking into this (preseed), but not to sure how well it work. Just looking for opinions!
TIA

We tried for 1 year (10 cycles or so... i don't remember) We got pg on the cycle that we used pre seed. The only other difference was that we conceived while on vacation. We hadn't taken a step forward for if at the time that we got pregnant so we weren't on any other treatments.
Good luck to you! I know there was a thread (searched and couldn't find it) about what people did differently to get pg and a lot of people stated they used preseed. I'll search again to try to find it but it doesn't give detailed info but there are quite a few of people that used it and got pg on that cycle.

Here are two preseed threads in family planning: preseed 1 (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5550&highlight=preseed) preseed 2 (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3297&highlight=preseed)
Here's one in family planning about lubricant (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1690&highlight=preseed).
Not the ones i was looking for but i hope they help!

Though I didn't get pregnant using preseed and needed to do IVF, when we were going through IUI and IVF and my husband had to use lube to give his sample, the only thing my RE would let us use was Preseed. He said no matter what others tell you that preseed is the only one recomended and won't kill sperm.

We used it and I got pregnant during the second cycle (or was it the third?). Good luck! :)

dancn We never used preseed, but I've heard good reports on it...I do know that Clomid can make your CM kind of non-existant. I think in the SAI thread a while ago someone's RE told her to use vegatable oil (cooking oil). It sounds pretty icky, but it works and will not kill the sperm I guess. Since we did IUI, I did not try that. Good luck!

We've used it as a lube while TTC, but no success yet...16 months and counting. I wouldn't get it again--too pricey, and didn't do anything for us.

I've always thought that a lot of the people who say they got pg using pre-seed were likely to get pg around then anyway.
But if you need to use a lubricant, it's a better (although expensive) choice while TTC than the types that kill sperm.

We TTC without any lube for 5 months with no success and our first cycle with pre-seed we got PG. Coincidence? Who knows. But we are gonna stick with what works for the next one!

Eh, I've used it for 6 cycles and no pregnancy. I agree with the PP who said it's probably a coincidence.

Does Pre-seed act as fertile CM if you dont have very much?? I am asking bc I just bought the 3 pack application and want to try it this month. I think bc I'm still BFing I dont have as much fertile CM so I am hoping this may do the trick. If I get EWCM its not very much at all.

Yes, Pre-seed is a sperm-friendly lube and provides a good swimming environment like CM would.

I don't know, I've never used it. I went with regular egg whites. FWIW, they do NOT stay up there that well, so I just put them in at the last possible moment :o

Does Pre-seed act as fertile CM if you dont have very much?? No. Pre-seed does not enter the cervix, which is where the CM comes from. The CM in the cervix helps the sperm get up into the uterus. If you have no CM in the cervix, no amount of preseed is going to help.
