Please tell me what you know/your experiences.

I was “tentatively” diagnosed with PCOS on Monday. I was given meds to start my cycle. I was told that on the Sunday after I start bleeding to start taking a BCP. Well, I’m now on Day 5 of the meds and still nothing. She said that if I don’t start within the 10 days, to go back to the doc. Hmmmm. . .

Also, with being on a BCP, are your cycles always regular? I’m worried that if I do finally start on Day 10 (May 10th), next month I am going to start on June 10th also. Which, coincidentally is the day we leave for our cruise. How bad would that suck!!!?!!! GRRR Sometimes I hate being a woman!

What medicine are you on? Provera?

When I'm on Provera AF doesn't come until about 7 days after I take my last pill. She probably meant 10 days after you take the last pill.

I'm very irregular without BCP. I was just told I had PCOS a couple weeks ago. They gave me Provera and Clomid. Provera to start AF and Clomid to make me O. We're trying to get PG though so you would take the Provera and BCP.

BCP will make you regular. You will probably have AF come while you're on your cruise. There are ways around it by not taking certain pills on certain days. I don't know exactly how to do it, but I've had friends do it before.

Shoot. . .I am not definite. That does sound right though!
(I'm at work, meds are at home!)

That's probably what you're on.

Did your doc mean if you don't start bleeding within the 10 days after you finish taking the pills? IIRC, I took them for 10 days then waited for AF. I have PCOS and while on the pill I will get AF every fourth Wednesday like clockwork.

If you are concerned about having AF on your trip you can keep taking the active pills to delay AF.

There is a group thread for PCOS here (http://www.constantchatter.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30775).
There are also a bunch of threads in family planning.

She probably gave you provera (synthetic progesterone to start you bleeding). I assume she knows you did not ovulate after having done blood tests and a transvaginal U/S? BC if not, then this is just a withdrawal test to see if the lack of period is indeed due to anovulation. There is the possibility that it is an estrogen problem in which case you could still not get a period after provera. This is explained very well in Taking Charge of your Fertility.

When I was on provera, I took it for 10 days then got my period 10 days AFTER stopping it. If you look in the FP section there is a thread on provera and how long it took people to get their periods.

As for the BCP, you can either start on day 1 of your period or on the first Sunday of your period. After that, your period would come every 28 days since the BCP is a 28 day cycle. This is assuming you want to use BCPs to deal with the PCOS. There are many of us who don't or can't.
