from http://www.thelot.com/

From Mark Burnett, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television, ON THE LOT affords aspiring filmmakers the opportunity of a lifetime: a $1-million DreamWorks development deal. And, 12,000 people submitted their films for consideration. ON THE LOT will feature filmmakers who will produce short films in every genre every week and the viewers will vote on who gets eliminated. The show will premiere with a one-hour auditions episode on Tuesday, May 22.

Some of the films are featured on the site I linked above.

Another reality show to watch when Idol and all my other shows are over! Is that a :D or :o ? ;)

One of the other parents in my son's daycare apparently is a filmmaker who submitted something. I'm not sure of the name --but I thought his daughter (who'd be a baby) was in it. If you see something like this, please let me know!

nettreefrog, If you find out any more, let us know! There's thousands and thousands of videos that got submitted, so they may never show it.

Bumpety bump bump. I really like this show! Unlike so many other reality shows, they actually have decent, well-known and respected judges. The subject area is something I know absolutely nothing about but it is interesting to me what it really takes to be a director. Anyone else watching? If not, I recommend it.

True. Although Brett Ratner is one of the more reviled personalities in town and the irony of him telling others how to direct a movie is right up there with Paul Abdul judging other peoples' singing. :D

I'm going to try to watch the next ep just out of curiosity, though.

Yeah, after the first episode I looked him up on imdb and saw he did the last XMen. At least now I know who to blame for it ;) I guess by well-known and respected, at least we're not seeing David Hasselhoff!

I have it saved on TIVO to watch this weekend.

So I have been watching and I am so confused. I caught up with my Tivo today and it left off with 24 directors left and they had 1 hour to do a one page script. Next thing I know they have their final 18 and they are showing a 1 minute comedy. From what I can tell I didn't miss an episode??? Or did I?

What the heck happened. Talk about poor planning. It looks like Ratner bailed also.

Same thing with us. We had our DVR record it, but it seemed like we missed an episode.

I went to the official webpage and we did not miss an episode. Something must have happened and they didn't air it. There are a lot of pissed off fans on their message board :D

It was very confusing.

I did enjoy the short films last night but the voting online was also screwed up. They are not off to a good start.

Yep, but her brain is still sharp as a tack. I thought her comments were spot on.

"getta rhoom" was perhaps the most offensive thing I've seen in a while.

And I loved the look on the last guy's face- the one who did "Replication Theory" as he waited to hear their critiques after listening to them bemoan the overabundance of fart jokes all night long.

I got too disturbed by the way her mouth no longer moves in a human way and changed the channel. She (well, Princess Leia) was my girlhood idol and I just can't watch her looking so weird. But yeah, she's incredibly smart.

Okay, this will sound terribly convoluted, but my boyfriend's cousin's boyfriend (try saying that three times fast) is Adam who did the Dance Man film. I'm very surprised he wasn't in the top three! I haven't met him yet (they're all sequestered) but from what my boyfriend says he sounds like an intelligent, good-hearted guy, and pretty darn talented, too. I'm definitely voting for him!

Getta Rhoom was just plain awful. In watching it again, it's clear that at least the ACTOR thought he was playing someone mentally challenged. The fact that he was in the top 3 speaks a lot about the audience.

I liked this show to begin with but I really don't like the setup now. I am not fond of the host at all (I'd like for Chelsea Handler to be back) nor am I fond of the AI setup (even the "after the break" part is SO AI).

But I'll keep watching ;)

So, I liked this show last week, but I'm not a fan of the current set up. I don't like the host at all. She really bothers me. Thank goodness for my DVR otherwise these hour result shows would drive me nuts. It is so nice to be able to fast forward through all of the junk and just see who is leaving.

I don't know who to be more annoyed with in this show after the results episode...

* The super annoying hostess
* The AI format
* America for voting Getta Rhoom into the top three
* Carrie Fisher for backing down on her opinion of that film

Ugh...I'm still excited for Adam, but I can't believe his film wasn't in the top three...and I can't believe they sent the British guy and Italian lady home. Their films may not have been the best, but they were certainly better than that whiner Kenny's cab movie, or definitley Getta Rhoom.

Thanks sparkle&shine for voting for Adam!

I think she was totally being sarcastic.

I felt bad for the UK guy. I know it wasn't the most original story-line but I thought that the directing and style was really good!

I could NOT believe that Ghetta Rhoom was in the top 3. WTH?

You know I really wish that this show would have been done on BRAVO. I don't know if anyone else has watched the 'top' shows (top chef, top designer, project runway) but Top Director would have been awesome. The first half of the shows center on the people being creative. Then they show their creations and get judged during the last half. They seem to fit it all in. Of course they don't start with 18 people only 10 usually. That format would have been perfect. They get their goofy assignment - we see their creative juices and how they work. They show the finished product then the judging. It would have been so much better! Heck, they could have even left it with audience participation by not judging the first part of the episode and doing the voting thing and judging the next episode like it is now.

Anyway.....there are a lot of really talented people on the show and I will keep watching!

I think she was totally being sarcastic.

I hope so...that's what I was thinking at first, but I'm not sure that her sarcasm was evident to everyone. It seemed infused with some genuine backpeddling as well. Maybe she didn't want to piss off "America" or something, seeing as that's where the votes went. The director seemed to be a generally nice guy, but he should have had more sense with that video. Maybe she wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt? I guess we'll see what he does next.

So am I going nuts or is Fox doing their usual thing and messing with the show schedule? I have my DVR set to record all new episodes of The Lot. I swear a couple of days ago that it was supposed to be on on Monday before Hell's Kitchen. Now it's not on until Tuesday and from the description it looks like they will just be showing a few of the submission videos. I don't think we are going to see the end of this show. It seems to be going downhill fast.

My DVR caught it. I really liked the first one (loved the bow to "which one? the red or blue wire" and the throwback to Shawshank Redemption). I think Hilary will be going this week. I just wish they'd replace the hostess. Ugh.

So, are they voting one person off and showing five new short films this week?

Also, I might have missed it. Does anyone know if these are the films that they sent in with their applications or are these short films that they're making as they are competing in this show?

Even though I didn't really like Hillary's film from two weeks ago, I wasn't bummed it was Trevor who was sent home this week. I didn't want another girl out of the competition, yet. His was my second least favorite from two weeks ago.

This week I kinda liked the Dancing with the Devil short film. It was a bit hyper to me (like the judges were saying), but that guy (Marty? I think) definitely has a style to his movies that has stuck out to me with his work thus far. My other favorite was the Slut Mom film. That lady has had great work. She'll go far, I think.

My least favorite this week was the Cupid film. Yawn.

So I caught up with this show this weekend. I hadn't been in this thread so I didn't know any of the info.

I'm glad I was not the only one who got really confused about the space between the 1 minute shorts and the top 18 finalists *head spin* That was just stupid.

I too hate the host...she sucks. Thankful DVR allows me to not listen to her much. I think I'm sucked in enough to watch to the end. But I'm not liking the format either.

So far my favorites are Zach and Andrew. Andrew won me over with his pitch and Zach is just a great special effects guy.

We'll see what happens

I'm still watching but I really hate their format. I like watching the films but I don't like the way they do the elimination. I can never remember who did what film the next week and they don't even refresh your memory. I am always left wondering which film did they do?

It seems like this show is just a mess with no plan. I always wonder if this is the way the show was planned or did it morph into something else. Like how this week they are going to eliminate 2 film makers. Shouldn't they have done that at the beginning not now that they are down to the final 10? Or is it that the rating suck so bad they need to get the show over with more quickly?

There are definitely talented filmmakers on this show but I feel kind of bad that the show wasn't done as well as it could have been.

Absolutely agree. They keep changing things up as well. First they eliminate people the next week. Then they eliminate people the next day. They show snippets of the films the next week, then nothing. The only thing that has remained consistent is the host who I can't stand. Anyone notice how she commented on one of the filmmaker's looks right after they showed her film about beauty being more than what you see? Eee gawds.

One thing I do like is the pool of actors they've been using. I recognize a lot of these people so it seems familiar (they aren't household names but they have a lot of experience). I swear that one of the actors played Chip in Kate and Allie.

I'm also rather appalled at how few women are left.

I really want to love this show, but the host is killing it for me. I want to rip my eyeballs out when she comes on stage. I particularly hate how she over-enunciates words. ("Don't forget to vote at the EEEENNNNND of the show..")

Aside from the host, I really enjoy watching the films. I think Zach is by far the most talented in the group. He is so dang creative and I love everything he does. The "Die Hardly Working" short he did a few weeks ago was so funny! I hope he takes it all.

I also really like Will and Shalini. I hope those two go far.

The one I can't stand is Hilary (and I hate saying that because there are so few women left!). I never "get" her films and I think they're poorly made. She just seems so out of her league here.

I was really surprised to see that this show is produced by Mark Burnett and Steven Spielburg. You'd think with those two big wigs, they would be able to find a better host and format!!

Smilin13

I'm still watching as well. But I never watch it live, so I can skip through everything but the films.

I agree that the format is kinda confusing.

I think one of my favorites so far is Andrew, but I've liked him from day 1.

And the winner was Will.

They didn't even make any new movies for the last two episodes. Really disappointing.

I was wanting Will or Adam to win so I was pleased with the outcome. I was so sick and tired of Jason's "Weyall I'm just a country boy from Kentucky and never had a lick of schoolin' in my life. Aw shucks." Yeah. I'm over that.
