How exactly do I know if I have them and how do I get rid of them? Are they common after delivery? I am 5 weeks out...

External hemorrhoids are visible on perianal inspection. They appear as purplish nodules around the perianal region. You may be able to feel the nodules for yourself. You may have bright red blood following a bowel movement, itching and discomfort. It is a common occurence if you strain on a bowel movement, have constipation, sit for prolonged periods, have a low- fiber diet and of course....pregnancy related. Eat high-fiber, increase your fluid intake, use Anusol or other anesthetic/astringent oitments and try warm sitz baths (consult a pharmacist). If you're not certain consult your doctor. HTH! And hope it goes away...not fun!

Yes, common after delivery. Did you have a hard labor?

Very common and if they are inflammed you will feel them. Use Tucks pads, sitz baths or other hem. creams/ointments.

They will shrink back to normal, but never go away totally unless you get surgery to remove them.
