OMG...did anyone just see the end of the WS/Angels game?!? That ump needs to be FIRED!!! Honestly, they need to reverse that and give the Angels the win (not that they ever would, but they should). He called him OUT and so the players came off the field. HORRIBLE! I certainly hope this series isn't won by one game.
Sad that the Astros lost. :(
eta: nevermind about reversing the win/loss. The game had just switched over, so I hadn't thought about the fact the game was tied.

I saw it. I thought he was out when the ump's hand went up. The CHicago Sun Times reported that there was a change in the direction of the ball, but then again they are biased.
It's a win, I'll take it!!

He did indeed call the AJ out. First a strike sign and then a clenched fist for an out. But he keeps saying, "I never called him out, that was the sign for a strike out." Oh well...I'm just ready for Friday and I REALLY hope that ump is not going to be at Angel Stadium.
Oh and as for the ball changing directions...it might have. But that could have been from it first hitting the edge of the webbing and then going into the pocket.
I'm trying to win tix on Ebay as we speak. I have about 30 ebay listings that I"m watching and I WILL get tickets!!!

every flipping news station here.
Whenever they go to an interview with AJ they intro him as the most "loved/hated" player right now. Of course Chicago people are not saying its our fault, obviously :) but a lot of sports reporters (espn/sports channels) are saying its our fault.
They also said that the angels were so pissed that they didn't practice yesterday. I am not sure if there is any truth in that (not denying they didn't practice, but the reasoning behind it).

No, it has nothing to do with being pissed. They had a "no practice day" scheduled for Thursday all week. They played so late and long with the rainout on Saturday that they literally have had no rest. Flying from NY to Cali and back to Chicago with long and emotionally charged games and hurt/sick pitchers. So they took a much needed rest day to recharge the batteries.
As Mike S. said in an interview...'a bad call wouldn't have mattered if we had been up in the score more.'

I haven't seen the play at all yet, but I think the ump was wrong for what he did. I have heard that it wasn't a clean catch by the catcher. Please correct me if I am wrong.
But with that being said, and thinking it wasn't a clean catch, and being a catcher all my life- I think the catcher is partly, in a small way, to blame. (Boy what a grammatically incorrect sentence that is) I was always taught- and what I always did- was that if there was a third strike and if it was anything other than a perfectly clean catch, tag the batter. Even if I know for sure I caught it cleanly, I would tag the batter. Meaning if I caught the ball without having to move my glove, strike three, batter out. If I moved at all to catch strike three, I would tag. Better to be safe than sorry.
The play sucked, but what is done is done. Hopefully they can overcome it and get back into the series.

I agree with you that he should have tagged the player. I'm assuming they're taught the same thing about tagging if there's any doubt. Wonder why he didn't? But, I still think that the ump was completely wrong for making that call, and then acting as if it was just a "strike three" call and not an "out" call. Whatever.
Oh, and he *is* umping in Cali tonight. Apparently he had to have a police escort at the airport. Um, YEAH! I really don't understand why they didn't replace him.

DH is a huge Angels fan, and it's not mad at the player; he's mad at the ump. The umps stay the same for the whole series, so this guy will be at Angels stadium tonight, as the first base ump. That means that he's going to be standing by some very angry fans tonight. Luckily, we're not as crazy as some fans, so he'll probably escape the evening with nothing more than some insults hurled his way, as opposed to cups, beach balls, paper, etc.
Go Angels :D!

I really think that they need to make some exceptions. When someone makes a mistake like that, ultimately changing the outcome of the game, I think they should be replaced. Obviously, they can't do that when someone just makes a wrong call (strike intstead of ball, safe instead of out, etc), but for an ump to *make* a call, then allow the play to continue and then reverse his call is unforgivable to me. But, that's just my opinion. I'm know there are many good reasons to keep the same umps.
I *do* hope that he is not on the crew for the WS.

I heard a lot of interviews today on ESPN radio here in LA. A couple of ex-umps called in (professional) and they said that some of the blame is on the catcher because even if he thought he cleanly caught it, it was close enough that a simple tag would have put it all to rest. However, they also said that the ump never made a definitive call and looked like he was ready to end the inning as well and should have taken a cue from the batter who actually started walking back to the dug out before running to first. The reason, they said, he should have been called out is because the home plate ump didn't see the ball hit the ground and neither did the third base ump. The protocol should have been to confer with the TBU and the crew chIEf and if no one saw it hit the ground, the batter would have been out. IF the ball would have hit the ground, the HPU should have called "no catch" which is protocol. Then the catcher would have known to apply the tag or throw to first.
Anyway, tonight my team sucked...I'll be at the game tomorrow night....GO ANGELS!!!

I finally saw that play last night with the bad ump call. But yeah I would have tagged the batter with that kind of a catch. The ump was very unclear about his call, but as a catcher myself, my glove would've been on that batter's hip. No doubt about it.
I've been working all day, what's going on with the games? I'm going to have to turn on ESPN to see what the deal is.

I so agree with this as I live in NY. For years everyone hated the Yankees, then when they started doing well 10 years ago all of a sudden they were all Yankee fans. This year, with the Yankees really playing like crap, and with the Mets having a good first half, all of a sudden they were all Met fans. I hate people like that. The favorite saying of those people is, "I am a NY fan" BULL!!!!!!!!! BIL said this just this year. So I asked him if he lived in California would he cheer for all 5 teams. He looked at me as if I was crazy and said a sarcastic no. I said, "Well if you can be a fan of any team in this state why not there too?" End of conversation. Try saying something like that to newly created Sox fans, or Chicago fans and see what happens.
I am a Yankee fan through thick and thin. I cheered like crazy in the 80's when they stunk, I will never waiver.

Maybe it's because they're already looking ahead to the work to be done in the WS. Like they don't want to celebrate too much when they haven't done everything they want to yet.
Or they might still be mad that they even had to go to a game 6, and they couldn't be at home when they won.

No feathers rustled! :) Dh and I were talking about the celebration too and here's what we came up with. The Astros are made up of a bunch of low key type of guys. They're pretty humble and since they were in another stadium and not home, the celebration wasn't what it could have been. If you were able to see the celebration in their locker room, it was much more exciting with the guys going crazy with the champagne.
Also, after the emotional rollercoaster they were on from Monday's game, I think it was more a relief that they won the game and going to the WS was the bonus. For the past 44 years, they've never done what they did last night and sometimes your reaction is just one of relief. You know, like crossing a finish line that you've been trying to cross for decades. It's kinda like, "finally!!".
It's safe to say, though, from watching the news reports about their arrival back home last night, that they're completely excited about this major accomplishment (as am I!!).
Since the Angels are out of it, I have to root for the Astros (for Allison!).
Aww thank you Mo!!! :D

Ok, I just have to vent briefly. I am so sick and friggin' tired of listening to these damn sportscasters bitching about Minute Maid Park. It's our freakin' stadium we built it the way we did for a reason, don't complain about our outfield and the hill or what's a homerun and what's not and the Crawford boxes and such. And, especially the roof. I think we should close it for good and lose the damn key but that's just my opinion. Ausums said it best tonight, "Why does MLB think it has the right to tell us to open or close the roof? They don't regulate our batting order or tell us how high to let the grass grow, they shouldn't tell us when to close the roof." Amen, Brad. It never mattered before whether or not the roof was open but now MLB and our opponents (especially LaRussa of the Cards) see it as an "unfair advantage." You try to play in 110 degree heat with 100% humidity with mosquitoes the size of birds and see if you don't get a retractable roof too!
Uggg...I hate non-Houston announcers. If I hear Tim McCarver talk about how if the ball hits any part of Jermaine Dye's uniform he gets a base and then looking at the replays of every pitch to see if he did. Ugg...annoying.
Right now I can't believe we've let them bat around their order. I liked this game better when I was in class and couldn't see what was happening.
Vent over...for now.

I really don't have a solid opinion about the roof but in my eyes, if its retractable, why keep it closed during non-stormy weather?? I don't know what the weather conditions were last night but I guess if you have to play in our freezing/rain/slush weather we will play in your humid/mosquito weather.
ETA: I know it wasn't rainy but I do not recall what the temp was....I doubt it was 110?

Are y'all going? That'd be AWESOME!!!!!!! Yeah, we have season tickets with my parents so we went with them last night. We'll be there again tonight but will be sitting in right field. My Tio's from Mexico came in town today and my Dad is taking them in our seats. My Tio's all played baseball in the Mexican League back in the day and one of them is even in the Mexican Hall Of Fame (aka Salon de Fama).
By the end of the game last night the outside temp was in the upper 40's which isn't really bad, but if you're a native here, it's freezing! I know I was cold. Bud Selig sat next to us and around the 7th inning her stood up to put on his huge coat. He sure got some ribbing for that. It was all in good humor. After one guy got him good with a sensible rib, Bud turned around and told him he was right.
The whole thing about the roof was homefield advantage. In Houston, it's hot (although not right now). That's why we have the roof. This is the most airconditioned city in the US and we like it that way. Also, the roof hadn't been opened since May when the Astros were 15-30 so our Karma had to do with the roof being closed. Chicago has their homefield advantage (whatever that may be, are they used to playing in cold weather?), and Houston has theirs. No one likes it when some stranger comes in and tells you how you should have your home.
As for Roy, he actually pitched a great game despite his 4th inning debacle. Roy typically has one inning where he falls apart, but then comes back blazing the next. Which he did, but the loss wasn't his fault. The Astros did come back to tie the game but in true form, failed to score the runners on base, especially when they had the bases loaded. We've all seen this before with them.
I do hope that the Astros are able to come back tonight. Last nights Sox win reminded me of the story about Roger Clemens' mom. The day she died she mentioned Shoeless Joe Jackson three times during the day. This was during the wild card playoff (or maybe the playoff games against the Braves?), after she died Roger took that as a sign that the Astros would play the White Sox in the World Series. So, DH and I were talking last night on our way home (cold!!! ;)) and I thought that maybe since she mentioned him three times that meant that they would win only three games? A girl can dream, right? :)
I'd also like to complain about Seligs "bodyguards". There is a family that owns the four seats in front of us. They have two sons, one of which is in high school. The hs son had a sign that read, "Hey Bud, sit down and shut it-the roof". Everyone laughed and that was it. He flashed it once and enver again. Well, the "bodyguards" saw it (as did Bud who did nothing but wink at the kid) and they took it away from him. That' pissed DH and I off. I mean, if Bud had no problem with it, why did they take it away???
Also, some woman who works for MLB decided to start yelling at a FOX cameraman in the hallway next to our seats. This hallway is an open hallway and is surrounded by fans. She was screaming at this guy for whatever reason and I thought it completely inappropriate. After the cameraman left, she continued her tired to anyone who would listen. She could have at least asked the cameraman to speak with her in the part of the hallway that goes under the stands. Totally unprofessional. I wasn't impressed with anyone from MLB. There are other stories, but I'll leave it at that.
I do have pictures that I'll post soon, hope to take some more tonight.
All in all it was a good game and the Astros really put up a good fight until the end. Win or lose, I finally got to see my Stros play in the World Series! Lets win one tonight!!!

Just to comment. I really don't think its a matter of us "used to playing in the cold". We typically don't go this far so we usually don't play in cold weather, lol. Yes, in April its a bit chilly, but nothing in comparrison to what it was the other night in Chicago....that was un-real.
I honestly feel that MLB wanted the roof open for ariel / camera shots...not because they are trying to pull one over on Houston.

Wow, thanks for all the inside info, Allison!! I bet it was exciting being there. I guess the players were trying to give Houston fans their money's worth, this being our first Series ever? ;) I love hearing the stuff about Roger's mom. She had to have been clairvoyant or something.

Who is the "all" that was complaining about un-fair calls? I did make a comment about the hit batsman call that was wrong, but I also said who knows if things would have been different had that call been made correctly. I know that umps aren't going to get every call right. That's the nature of the game, and I'd rather that than go to instant replay (heavens...6 hour games??). That homerun call was wrong, but it took slow motion and 2-3 views before it was certain that it was wrong. Anyway...I don't know what my point is with this whole thing. I guess I just read your post and got defensive. Sorry!
And, Allison is right about the roof deal. It's just PRINCIPLE in my opinion. Teams shouldn't have to change something they've done all season just because MLB wants better camera angles. Baseball players are sooo freaking superstisious (sp?), and to do something like that is just wrong, IMO.
Ugh...I love sports, yet i hate them at the same time! ;)

Despite being swept, that was a great series. For a team that had never been, I'm still proud of my Astros :D Congrats to the White Sox and their fans.
DH and I were there last night and I have to say that the crowd was wonderful. Everyone was loud (my ears are ringing today) and after the game was over, many of the fans stayed and applauded the White Sox. We were also applauding our Astros for giving us a season to remember. I've said it before, I don't care who won or lost, I'm just so proud of my team for making it the the WS when they had never been before. We had lots of White Sox fans in our section and we all had a great time during the game.
The Astros, despite being swept, really did put up a good fight. There were no blowouts in the scores, they were one/two run wins. I think it was a pretty even matched series and the better of the two won.
So I'm totally exhausted and have had little sleep this week, I also have no voice. I had a point, but it left me

Sox first opening game winning score was 1-0

It seems so....odd I guess, to not have baseball on tonight. At the end of the season, it's always so hard b/c baseball becomes such a "normality" in our house. :(
Anyway, I will be the voice of dissent about the way the Astros played this series. Yes, they held the games close and only lost by 1 and 2 runs. BUT, I do not think they played well. They had moments of playing well, but overall, I think they looked more like the Astros of the beginning of the season. They left a TON of runners on base, made errors on routine plays, and their pitching just wasn't what it had been all year. *IF* they had played like the Astros of the 2nd half of the season, I think it would have been a sweep in the favor of the Astros.
All that being said, I am, of course, sad that the Astros lost. But, I am also soooo proud of that team. They truly gave this city a season to remember and to be proud of. They are all VERY classy guys, which is why I became such a huge fan early this year (when they were losing, btw - just so no one calls me a band wagon fan! ;) ). They fought hard this year, going to a place that no one gave them a chance to get to. My uncle said it must be a hard year to have become an Astros fan, but I think it was a FABULOUS year to be an Astros fan. :)
Also, I don't want to take anything away from the White Sox. They played well, and deserved to win the series. So, congrats to the Sox and their fans (except the idiot fan who "attacked" Biggio's wife!). :)

Those pictures are wonderful! It was a year ago today that we had our very own parade in Boston.
I was pretty psyched to see the White Sox sweep the Astros, just like we swept last year. I couldn't believe that the last play was amost identical to the last play last year, if the pitcher had been able to catch the ball. Thankfully the game didn't go too late like the night before - Unfortunately I wouldn't have stayed up until 2:00 in the morning to watch it.
Now it is the Cubs turn....unless they are playing the Red Sox in the WS (that would have been so awesome if that had happened in 2003).
Less than 4 months until Spring Training! But in the meantime we have to deal with the drama that is Manny Ramirez, and so many of our players filing for free agency, who knows what the team will look like next year....and we still need to find out who the MVP for the AL will be.

Spring training has begun and I am so happy. But a little bummed because I won't be able to see any of it this year. The past two years we were in Florida at my IL's house this coming week and were able to visit a couple of sites. But being a month until my due date, we weren't able to make it. Next year though- no doubt!
What does everyone think of the coming year? What's up with Clemens not signing with anyone? But he's participating inthe World Baseball Clinic- or whatever it is called. I wonder what he is up to? DH thinks he's going to not play with anyone until the deadline in July then join a team in the running. Who knows?
While I am still ecstatic about Damon coming to the Yankees, what's up with not bulking up the pitching staff? We'll score 20 runs a game, but will give up 30. LOL

I have the feeling he's going to hang it up if he doesn't play in Houston again. His family is there, his son is playing with the Astros farm club, and he was guaranteed a position with the organization (non-player position) as part of the original deal. If not that, I do see the validity in what your DH said--that he'd join a team mid-season, so he'd have a better chance of not having back and hamstring problems again.

I was watching some spring training games and, as a Red Sox fan, I am so flummoxed! Only three of our fielders are the same - Manny, Trot, and Tek - and I don't know enough about the new people to know if they are going to be like our "old" team or whether it's going to be a whole new dynamic. Grr.
And I'm a little bitter that they just traded Bronson Arroyo. Grr again.

Good start for the Red Sox :) But it is going to be a long, long season. Who knows what it will bring. And it definitely isn't the same not knowing who anyone is. I watched a bit of the exhibition game yesterday and I had no clue if the people who were batting were part of our regular line-up and I just don't know their names yet or if they were 2nd/3rd string because today was opening day.
In 7 weeks we have Sox/Yankees tickets. That should be fun!

I'm so excited it's baseball season again! We went to the Astros opener Monday night and had a blast! It was the first time either my brother or I had been to opening day. Very exciting. :)
Very happy to see the 'Stros bats are heating up in the last few days. I was a bit concerned with one run total after the first two games (especially since that one run was off a wild pitch)!
After two seasons of fighting it, I think I may be more of an Astros fan than a Braves fan! I still love my Braves, but after moving here, even when they were 15-30 last season, I couldn't help pulling for them. Yikes!

I am just glad that baseball started. My DH and I just got done watching Fever Pitch. I didn't think that I would have liked it. It was pretty good. Not that the Red Socks won on our turf, that part stunk. At least it was only like a 10 second clip. :)......I thought that it was going to be worse than it was, Cardinal wise..

I'm so excited for this new kid, Taylor Bucholz for the Astros! He's 24 years old, had his 2nd major league start tonight (after giving up a 2 hits and 3 runs iin his first start monday night) and went 8 2/3 innings, giving up 2 hits (1 hit until 2 outs in the 9th). He would have had a 1 hit complete game shutout, but with 2 outs in the 9th, Bruntlett bobbled a routine grounder a bit and the runner ended up on first on the error (the fireworks were already going off for the win...lol), and then he gave up his second hit. I felt so sorry for the second baseman, who had to feel like CRAP for ruining the play that would have ended the game and given this kid a complete game, one-hit shutout! :( But, he got the win, and that's all that *really* matters. :)
Astros are kicking ass! Kinda weird for April! ;)
eta: Oh, and Monday night, my brother called me at work to see if I wanted to go to the game. Ends up, some guy at the pro-shop at the golf course he works at had a ton of tickets to give away b/c their group couldn't go. We got four tickets, plus a parking pass. He was so excited to tell me they were suite tickets! They were AWESOME seats, in the suites right above 1st base! Plus, it was a nail-biter of a game that the 'stros ended up winning! :)

I agree completely - bringing Doug back really did take some of the fans' attention off of JD.
It was funny - when they brought in Papelbon in the 9th, they also brought Varitek in. I couldn't figure out why they did that until I realized - Mirabelli has never caught for Papelbon. So if they had changed any signs since last season, Papelbon wouldn't have any clue as to what Mirabelli was calling for. Too funny.

My brother (who will be 25 in July) keeps score at every game he goes to. If we go to the game together, I'll help him out and do it for him when he goes to the bathroom or to get food or something. Sometimes, I'll even keep doing it when he gets back because you're right...it is fun! :)

dirt, pine tar, or whatever, he washed it off and still pitched a stellar game. It's still all over the media around here and it's annoying. Whatever it was, there's nothing anyone can do about it now anyway.
Had to tip my hat to the Cards pitching last night though. This is going to be a really tough, long series.

Of course there is nothing we can do about it b/c that is what the commissioner of baseball stated last night at the beginning of the game. Well, we all know it was not dirt.. It doesn't even remotely look like dirt.
He did pitch a steller game but the point is he cheated. It "dirt" has showed up in more than one game going back to other games he has pitched throughout the playoffs. He needs to stop rolling around in the bullpen dirt. :D. If it didn't happened to us I think that others would react our way and we would react your way. It is still all over the media here too. It is getting kind of old. I think that Rogers just ruined his reputation.

How did I miss this thread???? Mind if I join?
I lived in NYC for 8+ years, so I'm a Yankees fan. I liked baseball and usually watched the world series, but didn't know much about it until I met DH, who is a huge baseball guy. So, watching it with him made me all the more interested, especially after I started becoming familiar with the rules, stats, history, etc. Now I get a little nuts over it. Every now and then he'll come home and catch me on SI's baseball page and beam with pride. We were season ticket holders to the Yankees while in town, but now we live in Denver. We went to a few Rockies games last year, but nothing beats the energy of Yankee Stadium (or Fenway, or Wrigley...)
DH is a life-long die-hard CUBBIES fan, so I am one by marriage. Last year we took our 3-month old son to his first baseball game - Cubs v. Rockies - and dressed him in his little Cubs outfit. It was so much fun! This coming season we have tickets to the Yankees games, all of the Cubs games, and a few other random ones. Hopefully the Rockies will be a better team this year...but I'm not counting on it.
Anyways, I'm glad to see a thread like this exists here, and I can't wait for April!

Welcome gina!
You are so right about the energy not being the same as Yankee Satdium, Fenway or Wrigley. I have been to all the ballparks you mentioned, and yes Coors Field wasn't as energitic as the others.
We just went to Coors Field this past August. I bought the trip as a 40th birthday present for DH. We had a good time. But didn't realize it would be so cold that time of year. We had to go to the store and buy some clothes to cover up. LOL
That's great that you took your 3 month old to a game. I took my then 4 month old to a NY Yankees minor league game here on Staten Island last year. I just don't think taking him to Yankee stadium or Shea stadium is a good idea yet. He loved the game. He sat on DH's lap for a good hour watching the game. I was in heaven!
Well, hope you come back here often throughout the season!

bunny - thanks for the warm welcome! We went to a few Staten Island Yankees games - it is a GREAT place to take kids...open, clean and not too crowded. If we had been in NYC, I doubt we'd have taken DS to a game at YS - too cramped and loud. But Coor's is more open and we sat in the nicer section (the mezzanine, I think? The area with the closed in concessions right behind it and the family changing room right there). DS actually loved watching all the action, and wasn't phased at all by the crowd noise (he even fell asleep for the last half of the game!) Plus, he did look mighty adorable in his Cubs outfit.

We'll probably take Nicky to a couple of games again this year. And yes the SI Yankees satdium is nice. A great cheap alternative to its big brother stadium. :) DH is a Mets fan and every year he goes to opening day with his family. He said he probably won't take Nicky to that until he's 5. We shall see.
This year Dh and I are going to take a tour of Yankee Stadium. I was against doing it for a while because they charge so much more than the other stadiums. But I have to go before they tear down the stadium. I am a big Thurman Munson fan and I need to see his locker where it stands today. It just won't be the same if they put it up in the new stadium. So I told DH that is what I want for my birthday this year. I can't wait.

Red Sox fan here who can't wait for the season to start either. I got so into it last year because I was so exhausted that all I wanted to do every night was watch baseball. Then literally the day after DD was born was when the decline (tanking) started.
Hopefully we'll be able to get to a game this season - Red Sox tickets are so hard to come by but hopefully our friends will hook us up. I can't wait to buy DD a little outfit. She was given a pink Red Sox dress when she was born. No thank you! Even though she's a girl, we want to dress her in the real Sox colors.

We took the Yankee Stadium tour last January before we moved out here and it was aweseome! If you can wait, I would recommend going in the off-season, because we got to go into the dugout and out onto the field (not the actual field, but the track around it), which I don't think they let you do when the season's going on. I have a photo of me and my husband hanging over the dugout railing like Jeter - silly really. They also let you put something up on the Jumbotron for $5, and at the time we thought we had our baby's name picked out...so we put "Now batting for the Yankees...[insert name]" and took a photo of it, hoping to use if for our announcements. Alas, we didn't use the name, but it was fun to see it in print.
jessey - I've never gotten the "pink" version of baseball stuff for girls. Why would I want to wear something pink if my team's colors are blue and red? I've seen some pretty cute Sox infant baseball caps...

We do plan on going when the Yanks are out of town. That's the only time you can go in the clubhouse. Of all the tours we have been on we have yet to go into the clubhouse because the team has a game that night. We have been in every dugout though. We have pics from all of them. How did you find out about the jumbotron message? I would love to do that and put DS's name up there. That is awesome!

GO METS! Looking forward to the season! DD is still too small to go to Shea, but we took her last year to a Trenton Thunder (Yankees AA) game when they played the Binghamton Mets (AA). So it was our version of the "Subway" series! It was alot of fun. THe minor league games are so great for kids, they are cheap, and we only stayed for a few innings which was fine since we live pretty close to the stadium.
Once March Madness is over...then I'll be able to fully give my attention to the METS! :)

august2005 since we live in NJ, it's actually easier to go to Philly to see games sometimes. Their stadium is gorgeous...so we've been going to a few mets/phillies games over the past few years..it's fun being the "opposing" team and getting yelled at by the phillies fans! we do try to get to shea though. i work in nyc, so it's not bad going after work to games during the week.

That is nice that you get to go to Phila too. I am sure it is easier. I just am ready to get pumped up at Shea this year that is for sure. :D

sem426 DH and I go to Philly also. We like it there much better. He's the Met fan, I'm the Yankee fan. We went last year and DH was all decked out in Met gear and got picked on left and right. It was so funny. We are going again this year with his family who are all Met fans. Just to be a ball buster I am wearing my Philly shirt. We are also all going to Yanks-Mets at Shea in May. Can't wait- we go every year.

Thats too funny. We'll be at the same one. Yeah, we can't wait to go. We all always have a lot of fun. But we can't BBQ in the lot anymore, so I don't know what we are going to do. Maybe sandwiches and snacks. Totally sucks! We go to Philly and everyone is tailgating and BBQ'ing and walking around with opens cans of beer. Here we can't BBQ and you have to hide your drink in a soda can. Thats NY for you.

Karen What a coincidence. It is def. fun to experience the Yanks/Mets in person thats for sure. Everyone is so pumped :D
That sucks about the BBQ. Figures they would take that away in NY. We never BBQed but sounds like fun.

karen - I think it was you that asked about the Jumbotron message at YS? We didn't know about it ahead of time, but when we were standing in line to enter, a guy came around and took requests and $$. I think it was $5 a message or something like that? Then when they take you in to the pressbox, that's when the messages go up.

Happy Baseball Season everyone! Hope your teams do well...
I'm so bummed...our cable service isn't carrying the MLB package that it did last year, so I won't be able to watch our favorites as much. BOO!

THE METS WIN, THE MEEEEEETS WIN!!!
Hey there girlie- don't be trying to take over the Yankee saying! LOL
We got a preview of the baseball package for free this week. It was awesome. Too expensive to keep it though. Maybe later in the year when it goes down.
Just wondering- any of you girls ever play softball?

Don't know if anyone saw this, but I thought I'd post it here. It's so sad...that's 2 pitchers in less than 5 years for the Cards that have died. :(
Cardinals Pitcher Josh Hancock killed in Car Accident (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,269122,00.html)
ST. LOUIS — Josh Hancock, a key member of the bullpen that helped the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series last season, was killed in a car crash early Sunday.
The Cardinals postponed their home game Sunday night against the Chicago Cubs.
A vehicle driven by the 29-year-old Hancock apparently struck a truck that was assisting a disabled vehicle, team spokesman Brian Bartow said. The Cardinals and police were expected to make a statement later in the day at Busch Stadium.
Hancock's death is the second of a Cardinals player in less than five years. Pitcher Darryl Kile was found dead in a Chicago hotel room in June 2002. The 33-year-old Kile died of a coronary artery blockage.
Rest of story at link.

Hi Im from St Louis and I cant imagine what the cardinals are going through. I read an article where alot of the players freak out if player is late for practice or a meeting because of what happened to Daryl Kile. I watched a couple innings of the game last nite and obviously they just were not themselves. I think they had to take Spezio ( a pitcher ) out of the line up because he became really emotional prior to game start.
My DH is from St. Louis too and a hard core Cards fan. He was pretty shocked.

Hancock was drunk, talking on his celphone and marijuana was found in the car.

Today (with former teammate Jeff Bagwell)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v641/dlphnsfan13/311xInlineGallery.jpg
Other than tonight (and the day that Dan Marino announced his retirement), I can't remember ever crying over a sporting event. Biggio is a great guy and I was so happy for him and his wife (who was who made me cry! :o ). I'm so glad he did it at home! :) My friend, however, was sad that it was tonight since she has tix for tomorrow night's game. :p
From chron.com
The 41-year-old, who entered the season needing 70 hits to reach the milestone, has played his entire 20-year career with the Astros, making him the longest tenured player in franchise history.
Biggio collected his 3,000th hit a day before the 19th anniversary of his first major league hit, a single off the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Orel Hershiser at the Astrodome.

mrs_pell - Craig Biggio's night was incredible. I am so, so happy for him. DH and I bought tickets to the game on a whim and we are so glad we were there. I really got worked up when Bagwell came out on to the field to celebrate with him too.
