WTF? :(

From FoxNews.com:

MIDDLE RIVER, Md. — A 2-year-old boy was severely burned Saturday after he went down the slide at an elementary school playground. Someone had broken into the school, stolen several bottles of industrial-strength drain cleaner and splashed it all over the playground equipment, authorities said.

Entire story here (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266134,00.html).

DH said there was a similar incident in TX not too long ago. :(

Yeah, the poor toddler needs skin grafts, possibly from his lower back down to his ankles. The family is worrying that he may have difficulty walking.

There was a fingerprint on one of the containers, so let's hope they can get some information from that.

What a terrible thing! I hope they catch the person/persons who sprayed that stuff on the playground equipment.

Oh, that's just awful thinking about what that that little boy is going through.

That is TERRIBLE!!!

That poor little boy has to suffer like this because some idiot thought they were being funny/cool/whatever! I hope that part of the punishment for the person who did this requires them to see the damage they caused.

Luckily in that case the 2yo girl received only minor injuries.

OMG, that makes me sick to my stomach. My kids love playing at the school playground - we were there twice this weekend. I can't imagine that kind of cruelty. WTF is wrong with people?

O_O I thought this was going to be about a hot metal slide or something. But acid? What sick freak thought of that?!?

Honestly, what is this world coming to?? Really, what an awful story. This has been such a sad day. I just have a pit in my stomach. What kind of person just goes and shoots up a classroom? What kind of person deliberately destroys playground equipment so a child is guaranteed to get severely hurt?? Now I have to check SLIDES for ACID when I take my kids to the park? Just horrible.

At this point, there are no suspects.

Investigators have theories, little else (http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/baltimore_county/bal-md.co.acid17apr17,0,7295516.story?coll=bal-local-headlines)

From the above article...

On the back wall of the school where the boy was burned, someone had spray-painted, "45 watch out for DA 45." Police could not say what the message means or whether it is related to the child being burned.

Sheridan said yesterday he believes the crime was likely carried out by neighborhood youths, and police were not ruling out the possibility that a gang was behind the crime.

WTF is up with that spray painted mssg? So sad...

Makes you wonder if it was some kind of up gang initiation crap, or something.

Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing by bringing a child into this f*cked up world. And when I hear about stuff like this, I REALLY wonder. :(

Two suspects...

Teens arrested (http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/baltimore_county/bal-acid0417,0,3810607.story?coll=bal-home-headlines)

It appears the kids were experimenting with the chemicals and wanted to see if they would melt the plastic playground equipment. When it didn't melt the slide, they just walked away.

Well at least they were found, but I wonder what's going to happen to them now? Although it doesn't sound like they were intentionally trying to hurt anyone and just being stupid, I really hope they get a severe punishment for what happened to that poor little boy. :(

Somehow I knew it was going to be a teenage prank gone wrong, which frankly makes the whole thing even scarier for me. Disgusting.

I'm glad they were caught. I hope they're given an appropriate punishment, whatever that might be.

Ugh :( It may have been kids "experimenting" but SOMETHING needs to be done to punish them.

i was enraged to hear about this, and i hope they throw the book at the two hoodlums. i can't believe anyone could be such imbeciles as to put acid on a slide and then walk away and leave it like that as if nobody was going to get hurt. i am so glad they caught these idiots. there are no words...

So far, it appears they will be charged as juveniles. Payton's family has voiced its displeasure at the decision.

This story was all that I could think about when I took my DS to the park yesterday. I was watching him climb up and I was looking at his legs in his shorts just wondering to myself how much pain that poor little boy must be in. How much long term damage those boys caused and how they forever changed that little boys life and how little they will probably 'suffer' or 'pay' for what they have done.

In addition to what I hope is a harsh punishment, they should have to go see the boy and the suffering they caused.

The charges were upgraded to adult offenses. The teens have now been named:

The new charges were the result of physical evidence found at the playground and analyzed by a crime lab, Shellenberger said. He would not elaborate on the nature of that evidence.

The boy was released from the hospital about a week ago.

In April, Potochney suffered third-degree burns when he was playing on a slide that had been doused with industrial strength cleaner.

Since then the toddler has undergone five skin graft surgeries and nearly two months of painful physical therapy. He also celebrated his third birthday in the hospital.
