So far behind. Thank so much for the congrats, ladies!

And yay for a tooth, jessey.

I bought summer "walker" shoes for C today! I feel like she's such a big girl. Which prompts my next question: What size shoes is your DC wearing? Especially if you've had them "fitted".

We ended up with a 4.5 though I wasn't sold that they were the right size. The sales lady was a jerk, and she kept trying to tell me C needed a Wide, even though I could stick my finger next to her foot inside the sandal.

Hope youa all are well and are lovin' those beautiful babes!

Just have a second... but L had his 9-mo WBV yesterday. As I'd guessed, he's dropped dramatically in weight %, but his doc isn't concerned.

29" (65th)
17 lbs 12.5 oz (12th)
46 cm head (60th)

Wowsers, we sure are having a rash of ROs around here! Congrats to all of you. :)

We have been visiting family in CA for the last week and a half. We are currently at my sisters house.

Nora is full on crawling. She cut two more teeth last week bringing her total up to four teeth now. She stands all the time and is getting better and better about standing unassisted for longer periods of time. She will walk if you hold her hand or if she has a soft surface to cruise along side of.

Here we are the other day:

jennylou you look awesome!

I just have a second to post while DD is next to me, emptying out my purse. lol. It's her new favorite toy. ;)
She slept like crap last night. I thought she'd sleep good because we were outside most of the day, and fresh air usually knocks a kid out, right? She went to bed at 8:30 and then was up at 12:00, 1:00, 4:15, and 5:00 for the day. I walked for the March of Dimes yesterday (10 freaking miles) so all I wanted to do was sleep last night. I'm so stinking exhausted now. Blech.

Julia has learned a lot of new tricks in the last couple weeks - she will fake cry now. If she gets upset about something and starts yelling I'll say "it's okay, don't cry" and she'll stick her lower lip out and whimper. It's so cute. She also fake sneezes. When someone sneezes she'll pretend to sneeze, too. She loves to dance, and when she hears the song "If you're happy and you know it" she'll clap her hands when it says to clap your hands. I really can't believe how fast she's growing up. It makes me kind of sad. I really love this age and I'm having so much fun. It's hard to imagine in less than two months she'll no longer be a baby, but a toddler!! :eek:

Just a quick post with some questions?

Is your DD going through seperation anxiety? How are you handling it? DD is usually good but goes through these periods where I can't step out of her sight or else it's full on screaming. Even if I leave her with DH, she screams till I come back. I've tried to leave her to see if she stops crying but nope. She just wants me. I don't know if to just keep her with me all the time or what?

Also, do babies go through a 9-10mth growth spurt. DD will wake up at 6am screaming and god help me if the bottle is not ready. She will scream for the bottle, grab it from me and down the bottle. This weekend, she would finish an 8oz bottle, start screaming again and I would have to give her another 6oz! Anyone going through this???

Yeah - it was a fun weekend???:p :rolleyes:

Anyway, JennyLou, you look so great! Hope you're enjoying your time in CA. Nora is such a doll, and I love her "Pebbles" ponytail :).

We had Elizabeth's 9 month WBV this morning:

Weight:20 lb, 9 oz (I thought it would be more!)
Height: 27.75" (again, I thought she was longer, but they keep saying it isn't highly accurate at this age)

We had to take her for her lead test. I thought it was a finger prick.No....They had a hard time with her chubby arms finding a vein. My poor DD was screaming bloody murder. Both DH and I were in tears.

But other than that, she is in perfect health.

He did suggest flouride supplements since our town doesn't have it in the water - off to do more research on that one.

He doesn't want us to start milk until our 12 mo WBV (which is 1 day after her birthday - can't have her getting shots on her b-day!)

He wasn't a whole lot of help in the eating department since she is doing so well (except to say that her only getting 24 oz of formula is good because some people are still at 30 oz at 1 year and then think they need 30 oz of milk which they don't). He said to keep up with the finger foods, but we can keep with some purees too. And he wants her off the bottle for at least daytime bottles by a year. He understands that people want to hold onto the morning and bedtime bottles for longer.

Oh, so behind as usual here...

Jessey:

Congrats on the tooth!

mkvh:

Haven't had DS fitted for walker shoes yet... He isn't standing unassisted or cruising just yet, just likes to stand with assistance of the ottoman or momma.

Abby'sMom

Yay for the good 9 MO WBV! I think many of the babies will be down a bit in the weight due to the new crawling burning lots of extra calories.

jennylou

Love the picture of you and Nora, she is so cute! Yay for the crawling and new tooth!

Mystical:

Funny you mention her liking your purse, J is hooked on playing with my purse handles - favorite thing to do, he also love the fake sneeze too - he just laughs.

Amaye:

J is going through seperation anxiety. Mostly with me but the other day my mother came to visit and he had a fit when she left.... Not sure what to do?

I hope that a growth spurt is coming J really need one.

jesseybell

Congrats on the good stats from the 9 MO WBV! Poor thing on the iron check! J has yet to be checked, I geared up for it on our 9 MO WBV but nothing. Maybe they'll do it at a his 1 YR.

Not much too report here, J is now-

- waving
- giving me toys (sharing)
- shaking his head NO to everything
- suffering from seperation anxiety
- sleeping much better as of late 2 naps and STTN most of the time
- he is getting his second bottom tooth I can just see it not sure if it through the gum yet or not.

Far behind here, but yay for teeth, sorry for poor sleeping and yahoo for cute and healthy kids! :D

DD is getting very close to walking. She's a daredevil! She will let go of the couch all.the.time. She also "walks" up the wall - she'll just push to standing using the wall. We think it's kind of funny.

Sleeping like crap lately. We're thinking it's teething; I can see some bumps in her gums and I'd imagine they hurt. I think we're getting our bottom eye teeth in, but I could be so wrong.

quick drive-by to ask rande where she got those adorable barrettes!! Olivia is beautiful, by the way! :)

separation anxiety Over here, too, though she does fine with daddy and the nanny (though I work from home, so I'm technically still here...).

Soulmate
05-07-2007, 09:02 PM
Really quick...I've been super busy and super tired...

separation anxiety Oh yea. I can't get anything done unless it is during a nap. I can maybe leave him for 5 mins but as soon as he catches a glimpse of me he starts whining again. It is driving me crazy. I have to bring him into the bathroom with me!

9/10 mo growth spurt Very much so. DS went through this recently (10 mos) and it was a nightmare because he wanted to gorge himself on solids and there is only so much I can think of giving him while he is screaming at me and throwing a fit. Some things need to cool down. I swear he ate more food in a day than I do. He is just now starting to get back down to a reasonable level.

Shoe size A little while ago DS was in between a 3 and a 4 but I think he is probably in a 4 by now. This was not properly measured though.

rande Olivia is absolutely gorgeous...I love her [your] style BTW ;)

jennylou You both look so great. It is clear where Nora gets her good looks.

jesseybell What a nightmare, I'm sorry it was so hard getting blood :( I can't imagine.

DS is driving me crazy. He still isn't independently mobile but walks extremely well with assistance (me holding his hands) and cruises. The problem? He wants to walk all.day.long. I am going to lose my mind. I am hunched over holding his hands while he has a go of the place for hours. Do you know how slowly time goes? Sunday I had to take him to the mall just so I could have a break and even then he was trying to get out of his stroller as soon as it stopped. Add the separation anxiety on top of that and it is really tough. Is anyone else going through this? I don't know if my situation is unique since he never crawled or has been moving independent of me.

On a positive note, DS' schedule has finally solified. He generally takes 1.5 to 2 hour naps (as opposed to 30 min naps) and eats and sleeps at the same time everyday. The funny thing is that we did nothing to get him there and it didn't happen until he was 9+mos old!

Thanks, A_spark and Soulmate!

A_Spark- The red clip is Giddy Giddy from www.giddygiddy.com and the green one is my own creation. I bought the fabric flowers from Walmart and glued them to white ribbon and then onto alligator clips from Michaels. Really easy and Walmart had those fabric flowers in purple, pink, and green. Not quite as cute as the giddy giddy but a fraction of the cost.

Weight- Livie is doing so well. She gained back the weight that she lost during the transition to formula and then some. Of course, it is a ton of work on my part. I have to offer food every hour or so but she is really gaining. Up 1 1/2 pounds in 2 weeks. I am also feeding her a ton of avocado!:)

Hi everyone. Such adorable kiddies!

Separation anxiety- goodness, yes.

BTW, what do you put DC in for naps? Do you use the crib or something else? Are there even bassinets for children our age?

Linnybubbles
05-08-2007, 05:29 AM
Ugh, I feel like I have a newborn again. Amelia was up 4 times last night! She has a little cold, but nothing too big, so I do not think it is that. I have tried the weaning of feeding her at night, ounce by ounce, and about once a week she will STTN. Other than that, it is a nightmare. She screams bloody murder for a really long time, and I finally caved and fed her at 4am. I have no idea what to do!

Naps are not too much easier either, she stands in her crib and screams and pulls off the teething bar. I think I have a really strong willed baby here.

babywish
05-08-2007, 07:15 AM
Look at all these gorgeous babies!

Rande oh man, oh man you are going to go nuts when those blue eyes start captioning boy's attention. I am so glad she is putting on weight although I am sure it is hard on you. Just think soon she will get on a regular routine and you will just look back at these days and laugh. She is so cute!

jennylou Not sure if I ever told you this or not, but if M would have been a girl we had picked Nora as the name. The more I see it the more I like it, and seeing yours just wants me to have my own Nora soon (although I am sure I wont be so lucky with the hair!).

jesseybell I had no idea that is how they would do it, I always thought they would just get it from the finger.. now I am freaking out for Marc's 9 month visit. How did you guys even were able to hold her?? I can't not imagine trying to hold Marc down and knowing that he could end up with a needle in the wrong place... ok I better take that image off my mind because like I said I am already loosing it.

Linnybubbles Sorry to hear she is up at night again, I am sure she is just going through a growth spur or something temporary, hang in there!

cosmic Marc has been taking his naps in his crib since he was 2 months old.

Soulmate that is the 'beauty' of mobility, those that don’t have mobile babies don't know what they are missing out ;)… (enjoy it!!).

Separation anxiety Not yet, but Marc is younger than most of the babies around here, which makes me think of something…

Threadmistress please add us to the arrival dates list....
9/02 - babywish welcomed DS, 6 lbs 8oz. 19"

Everything is going well around here, I started weaning Marc last week, I had no more milk stashed in the freezer and with what I pump at work was not enough to keep up with his feedings. He gets formula during the day and I am still BFing in the morning and evening. It has actually been harder on me than him, I love BFing and I wish I could have done it until he turn 1, but oh well. He took the formula like a champ and he is drinking it with no problem. I still don’t understand how he is so tiny with the amount of food he eats and how much milk he drinks, the boy has yet to reject anything I put on his mouth if it were for him he would eat a cow!
He is at his best stage, for what I am reading along he is pretty much doing the same all your kiddos are doing (crawling, waving, babbling…), it is just such a fun age!

Got to get back to work…

Haven't been here in a while, let's see if I can catch up....

Shoe size-K's in a size 3.
Jennylou-looking good! I do K's hair like that too--I love it :)
Rande-she's beautiful. Congrats on getting her weight back up.
Separation anxiety-She's okay during the day, but I think she really suffers from it at night. During the day, as long as someone is around, she's satisfied. If she's fussy or tired, then she prefers me or her daddy. At night, she refuses to go to sleep unless we're in the room with her--and we have to stay there until she's solidly asleep or she'll wake up screaming. Needless to say, we're very tired.
Jessey-ugh about the blood draw! I guess they didn't check for lead at our 9 month WBV, they just iron levels and that was a finger prick.
Cosmic-K's always napped in her crib. She naps in a pack n play when we're away from home.
Linny-sorry sleep is sucking for you. I definitely feel your pain. We've got a strong-willed one over here too :cool:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things are going well here. We just got back from a short trip to visit family. K did great in the car both ways (5 hour drive) and charmed the pants off of all the family.
Things she's doing now:
Waving hi
Clapping when we say "Yay, Kate"
Cruising everywhere, and actually took 2 steps the other day :eek:
Still sleeping like poo
Said "gama" for my mom for the first time this weekend
I'm sure there's more, but I have a little munchkin pulling at my leg right now and I can't think. Hope everyone is doing well!
Whew--how do I get soooo behind???
jennylou--you look AWESOME, and N is adorable. I so have hair envy!
Rande--AWESOME job on the weight gain. Yipppeeee!!
Soulmate--weee hoooo for a schedule. Long time in coming, but so nice, no?
babywish--I'm sorry weaning was hard!
linny--our sleep has been rough, but mostly GOING to sleep, not STAYING asleep. I really think they have a hard time being "still" at this age. It stinks.
smurf--"gama"??? NO WAY! Too cool about the steps too.
I'm with babywish on not being able to keep up with the pump. :( C had 1/3 formula in her daycare bottles starting last Monday. She took them without a hitch. Actually, 1/3 was better than what I though. The 2 days before I got my BFP, I pumped about 1oz all. day. I was devastated and cried and cried because I thought I was going to have to wean entirely. But once my body got used to the new hormones, my production rebounded a bit. I'm proud to say that DD had no formula until 2 weeks shy of 10 months, but I'm disappointed that I didn't make my goal of weaning to milk. It IS for a good reason though!
C's latest trick is being "coy". She flirts and tilts her head to one shoulder and bats her eyelashes. TOO funny. She also is a lot like Soulmate's little guy with wanting to "walk". Fortunately, she's JUST tall enough that I don't have to bend over to hold her hands. Whew! She also is "bear crawling", up on her feet and hands instead of her knees. Everyone says she's going to walk sooner rather than later. We shall see!
jesseybell
05-08-2007, 08:22 AM
Blood draw - It was not fun. It was done just like it would be from you or I with the elastic around the upper arm. I had to sit with her in my lap and hold her other arm down and hold her body from moving. It wasn't the actually sticking that made her cry. It was the tournaquet (?sp). I am glad we got it over with. He gave us the option of doing it as 12 months, but then she would have gotten shots and then blood taken. No thanks.
I think my baby has the worlds smallest feet. I sware I don't even think she is a 2 yet! Right now we have completely given up on shoes. Socks too unless it is chilly because they don't stay on.
jesseybell Poor baby with the iron test! Weird - we didn't have one at our 9mth visit:confused:
sunchaser26 That's so cute that he is sharing toys. M just screams if I take something away from her:rolleyes:
Chimichanga Oh boy! Here comes trouble! It's amazing how fearless they are at this age.
Rande She is too cute!! She has the most beautiful eyes and as usual is so stylish!
Soulmate Oh Lord! We are going through the exact same thing. Mia's seperation anxiety is out of control now. I have to bring her to the bathroom with me. She does the temper tantrum cry also when I leave her. As for walking, she can semi-walk by herself but loves to have me follow her for support when she is kinda falling. She is definitely going through a growth spurt. She ate 2.5 stage 2 jars in one sitting!!:eek: She has NEVER done that!
cosmic She naps in her crib. We transitioned everything at 4mths. If you are co-sleeping, can he nap in a PNP?
Linnybubbles So sorry you are going through this. Just do what you need to do to get past this stage - she is sick, teething and now standing. Too much going on at once.
smurf OMG! She is talking!! and steps too?? Our babies are growing up way too quickly!
mkvh Oh-oh! You have a flirty one there. I hope you have some pics!
rande
05-08-2007, 11:40 AM
Jessey- You do not have the smallest feet! We do! Livie is still a 1! Every store that we go into to get her shoes, they comment on how little her feet are, and so narrow. Funny because my son is an extra extra wide foot and wore a 5 at this age. We are going to a wedding next week and I have yet to find shoes for Livie except for newborn booties, lol!
mrstim
05-08-2007, 11:51 AM
am I the only one who's little one isn't doing lots of the things you talk about? He doesn't wave, he mostly just squeals - not really babbling often. He's pulling up on everything, but all this other stuff - Whoa!!! I am starting to get worried!
Ryan also is refusing to sleep. We've been ST'ing for 6 weeks now, and still he screams for an hour when I lay him down at night. He's still waking up once every hour to scream bloody murder. I'm also guilty of night sleep walking - I'll go get him w/o remembering a thing and then I'll put him back in bed with me, which isn't helping. That's another post, though.
He was on a strike, refusing puree's completely. I finally figured out that he likes chunks of food, rather than having to eat it pureed. So we're pretty much just eating chunks. Last night we had stirfry and he ate a couple of bites of chicken, and a carrot, a sugar pea, and lots of peaches.
Is anyone else still suffering from PPD?? I thought this was supposed to go away by now!!
Final question: How many naps does your LO take per day and how long? My friend told me all of Ryan's sleep troubles came from him napping too much - he usually takes 2 longer naps (2hours) a day and he goes to bed around 8. :D The bad thing it's a vicious cycle - right now he's not napping, which means he doesnt' sleep at night, which in turn makes him overtired, etc. etc.
Hi Ladies --
I'm behind as usual! Let's see if I can catch up :)
jennylou - You both look great! I love Nora's hair too -- so cute!
Mystikal - So cute that Julia rifles through your purse and fake sneezes!! Hee hee!
Jessie - Eek about the lead test! That does not sound fun :( Poor E!
Rande - Livie is adorable. I LOVE that denim skirt, especially paired with the baby legs! I hear you on the awkward hair growth. It's pretty funny how random it just grows in on them!
Soulmate - Sorry about the walking. Just remember, this too shall pass! It's so bittersweet right? We want them to be mobile on one hand, but on the other it was so nice and peaceful when they weren't! Glad to hear that L has a schedule though - woo!!
Linnybubbles - Sorry about the sleep issues :( Hang in there!!
Babywish - It must be incredibly tough weaning -- but congrats on bfing for so long! I agree - this is a really fun age!
smurf - Wow -- walking and talking!! Kate is certainly keeping you busy. I'm glad she did well on her car trip -- I hope the sleeping comes into place for you soon!
mkvh - Hee hee. I'm imagining Clara being coy -- that's too cute!
mrstim - I wouldn't worry too much about Ryan not waving/babbling. All babies are different. He's focusing on his gross motor skills at the moment! As for sleep -we had to cut back on DS morning nap because it was interfering with his afternoon nap (and he was skipping it). So now he sleeps for 1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5-2 hours in the afternoon. We also go by the 2-3-4 rule (which I read about at Ask Moxie). He naps in the morning about 2 hours after he wakes up, then he naps about 3 hours after the morning wakeup, and then he usually goes to bed about 4 hours after the afternoon wakeup. Basically, he goes to sleep at 9, 1:30, and 7. It's been working fairly well! I will also say that he went through a 'developmental growth spurt' a few weeks/month ago though and there was NOTHING I could do to help with sleep!
Me - Things are going really well here! Braeden had a big weekend - he went to his first theme park (Islands of Adventure) and then he went swimming for the first time! He had a great time doing both (particularly the swimming, I was calling him my little dolphin). He has started cruising big time now and just about getting into everything! I don't expect full on walking for a few more months, but he is right there with your babies -- being a little daredevil. I can't believe he's less than 2 months away from turning 1. It just seems like yesterday that we were all having our baby showers and trying to enjoy our last trimester! Guess I need to start focusing on that first birthday party :)
I'm definitely coming back after DS goes to sleep to catch up here...I haven't checked in in a few days...
In the meantime...Jake has an EI (can't remember if I posted that) and he's on Omnicef for 10 days which has given him the runs several times a day and a horrible yeast diaper rash :( Poor guy screamed his head off when I changed him last night. It seems a bit better today though.
Off to give him a bath but I'll be back!
I'm back...starting at May 1st...
CarlaB ~ I'm glad your DS is doing better!
Jesseybell ~ Congrats on the tooth!
mkvh ~ I'm sorry you didn't meet your BFing goal but I think you should be very proud of making it as long as you did!! That's huge! And weaning now is certainly for a great reason!
Jennylou ~ Adorable pic of you and Nora!
Mystikal ~ I love all of Julia's new tricks. TOo cute :)
sunchaser ~ DS shakes his head NO too!
Chimichanga ~ I can't believe how close she is to walking! That's awesome!
rande ~ Olivia is darling! Those blue eyes are killer!
Soulmate ~ I'm glad your DS is on a good schedule...it reallly makes a huge difference once that happens!
Linnybubbles ~ I'm sorry about the bad sleep! I hope L gets the sleep memo asap!
babywish ~ Congrats on BFing for so long! You should be very proud :) I can understand how it's been harder on you than on him to wean...I would be the same way!
smurf ~ Glad the trip went well!
mrstim ~ Jake likes chunks of food better than purees too...our boys are growing up! As for sleeping...it's possible that Ryan's problem with sleep is that he's going to bed too late. Try putting him down around 7 and see what happens. seriously...I know it sounds crazy but it just might work. I do not think that he is getting too much sleep during the day. Jake naps 3 times (usually) for about 1.5 hrs each and still goes to bed around 7:30 and STTN.
Wrighty ~ WOW! 2 mo from turning one...how did this happen?!
***
Separation Anxiety ~ None whatsoever. :rolleyes:
9 mo growth spurt ~ We aren't quite there yet (Mother's Day is 9 mo for Jake!) but I'll let you know ;)
Naps ~ Jake naps in his crib. He has never napped anywhere else, unless we are out, in which case he will nap in his carseat.
klav - that's a great invite! Amber always does such nice work. :)
naps - Nora often naps on the go. We are working on getting her to nap in her crib and in her crib at night. Nighttime crib seems better than daytime crib.
seperation anxiety - she is getting a little better, I think.
babywish - are you just joining our group? If so, welcome. :) I love the name Nora. So classical and pretty.
rande - olivia has beautiful eyes! They pop so much.
jessie - sorry about the blood draw, it sounds painful!
baby zit??!!- Has anyone's DC ever had an actual zit? Whitehead and all (sorry - TMI). When I picked DD up from my parent's on Tuesday she had a bump on her cheek that I thought was a bug bite. But last night and still this morning it looks more like a pimple. I don't want to touch it, but at the same time I feel like I should be doing something about it, but I don't know what.
After a few restless, chatty nights, E thankfully STTN last night. But I felt like a new mom this morning when I woke up and realized I hadn't heard her all night. Especially now that she is moving around so much she occasionally will sleep face down which gets very scary.
Man, I can't even tell you how many times I've started a post here, and never finished it. :( I'm determined now though! I haven't posted in forever.
DD is doing great - cruising all over the place and very good on her feet. Every once in a while she'll stand by herself for a few seconds. The other day she stood with her back to the couch for like 30 seconds! It's so fun to watch her learn and play. She's been sleeping and eating well, and has 8 teeth now! Not sure when she'll get more... the last 4 seemed to come in all at once. Nursing and solids are going well, she's drinking from a sippy, and all in all, things are good.
The one thing we're having issues with, I put a post in the 0-12 forum about it. It seems like she may have allergies to grass or pollen or something environmental. She keeps rubbing her face and nose, and sometimes will just sit on the floor all sad with her thumb in her mouth. :( It got worse after she played outside yesterday. I got a call back from the ped nurse and they want us to try some Triaminic, so we'll give that a go today. It's been going on for several months, pretty much since we thawed out from winter.
1st Bday party - I need to start thinking about it! We'll probably have it the weekend before 4th of July, since her birthday is on 6/29. I need to get planning, since all our family is out of town.
Separation Anxiety - We had issues with this for a while, now she's doing really well. A friend came and watched her on Sunday while we went to see Spiderman 3, and apparently she didn't even know we were gone. It helps the friend has a 9 month old, so they were able to play together. :)
naps - She takes a 1.5 hour nap in the morning, and a 1.5 hour nap in the afternoon. Sometimes they're up to 2 hours, sometimes only an hour. Both naps are in her crib. Every once in a while a family member says that she's sleeping too much, which I totally don't understand where they're coming from, but oh well.
Shoes - She hasn't been fitted yet, but it looks like she's around a 3.5. She never wears shoes though, she hates them and manages to pull them off. Luckily it's summertime and I only wear shoes when I go out in the car, so it's no big deal. :p Once she's walking well, I'm going to work on it more and get her fitted at a store.
Anyone have plans for Mother's Day? DH hasn't mentioned a thing, so I have no idea. I hope we do something though, since it's our first one.
Here's a recent pic, it turned out so well that I'm picking up some prints today to send to the grandmas for Mother's Day. :)
wow! i'm always amazed when i check in on this thread. congrats to our newest RO's. what great news! we have our boys at 22 months apart and they are best buddies right now. i imagine things will only get better. again, congrats!
graham had his 9 month appt last week. 2 shots, an anemia test and the exam. all went fine. this time daddy came along so i was able to leave the room during the shots. i always well up when graham starts crying. he had a low-grade fever for about a day following but is perfectly fine now.
weight: 18 pounds 14 ounces = 25th %
height: 30 inches = 95th %
head: 18 = 70th %
breastfeeding: had to stop BFing him about 3 weeks ago. he wasn't biting me on purpose ... he latching incorrectly which was causing his upper teeth to puncture my nipple...and the subsequnt scabs at each feeding. yea, painful! the pain was beyond labor pains. i tried off and on for about 3 weeks to continue nursing but gave up. it was a tough decision for me. currently, i am still pumping and now have to supplement with formula b/c i'm not making enough milk. i'm ok with the decision now b/c he is doing well on formula. but am still sad that i didn't make that 1 year mark. i nursed my older son until he was 14 months old. ah well.
separation anxiety: sometimes. he def prefers mommy no matter who i around. but i can leave him with grandma or a sitter with no troubles.
1st bday party: decided on our theme this week. it will be 'music in the park'. he attends a music class once a week and LOVES it. the teacher is available for hire. i'm going to have the party in a park and she will come do a 30-45 minute music class for all the kids...instruments and all. i'm excited to start planning.
walking: not walking yet but it's anyday. he has been crawling since 7 months and loves to stand and cruise.
naps/sleep: graham sleeps from 7:30pm - 8am (unless he's woken up earlier by big brother). lately, he been taking one long nap a day from 10:30 - 2. but sometimes 2 naps happen.
eating: loves to eat! esp snacks. still doesn't have his pincher grasp...but he can holds larger foods and bring them to his mouth.
other things: he loves to hear his echo. we have vaulted ceilings and when we are heading down the stairs, he always starts yelling. he always always does it. and he does it all the way down the stairs. when he yells, he can hear the echo in return and he likes that. he also loves to pull himself up to standing and then plop down on his bottom...esp in the tub. of course, he would do it somewhere that makes me totally nervous. :) never sits still for diaper changes. loves to climb!
we're moving: are any of you from little rock, arkansas? we are moving there late summer/early fall. my husband got a promotion and we'll be moving there for about 3-5 years. i don't know anyone from there and would love to connect with some friendly faces. :)
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions about where their kids nap. We have a crib, but I've been reading "The No Cry Sleep Solution" which suggested making naps different from nighttime sleep. Since so many of you are using the crib for naps, I guess we'll stick to that. :)
cosmic She naps in her crib. We transitioned everything at 4mths. If you are co-sleeping, can he nap in a PNP?
Hi, Amaye. DS actually did nap in his PNP until he outgrew the weight limit. Big boy! At this very moment he's asleep in his carseat...lol. I guess I was looking for something I could bring downstairs with me or take from room to room.
I promise to start keeping up from here!
Anyone else with a crawler notice how freakin dirty their house really is?? I'm not a neat freak but I like to think I keep a tidy house (mop, vaccum, sweep with moderate regularity!). But man, little ds's butt and knees are constantly covered in dirt and dog hair!! Yes, it annoys me too ....It is even worse now that we are remodeling our kitchen.
Avery turns 10 months next tuesday. I think he is one of the bigger kids in our group. I feel like he going to be a little bruiser. At his 9 month appointment he weighed 22.5 pounds.
He is cruising all over the place and loves to hold on to his mommy's leg and pull up:) We finally moved his mattress down. He has been standing up in his crib for awhile, and recently has been stretching out over the edge so it was time...Now the mattress is so low that he looks like he is in a jail. It's kind of cute.
Here is a recent picture of our little boy crawling around my messy office:
In other exciting news, we bought a new house. We have been looking for awhile, and we finally found something we loved. Now we have to rush and finish remodeling our kitchen and get our current house on the market.
Hi everyone, Happy Mother's Day!
Things are going well here- adjusting well to moving accross country. Jackson is finally sleeping pretty well, although my DD is taking his place in the sucky sleep department.
What's new:
Crawling (for every outlet, electrical cord and staircase he can find)
Pulling up on EVERYTHING.
Waving
Clapping
High-fiving
Shaking his head to say "no".
Dancing (hilarious).
Lots of sounds (mostly Dadadada, and nananana, and geee), but no words.
Doing everything in his power to make Mia laugh. He's a total ham.
8 teeth
Still a peanut- I took him to the doctor's office for a little cut on his finger that I thought might be infected and he is finally nearing 17 pounds at almost 10 months. He eats like crazy though and is all bout table food. We give him 2 jars of babyfood each day, but he also eats whole grain waffles & pancase, grilled cheese, pizza, sliced turkey, spaghetti sauce, sliced fruit, peas, and a bunch more.
J is really fun right now- I love this age. We are planning a big 1st B-day bash and in honor of moving back to Boston, it will be none other than a Red Sox theme.
All of the babies are so cute!
mrst2b2003- Congrats on the house! It's beautiful! Remind me again what area you are in? We are looooving our new place/town/the east coast.
Happy Mother's Day everyone!
I am finally making it back by... computer time is so hard to come by. And as soon as I finish w/ emailing, DD is up from her nap!
We had our 9 mo apt & DD is 20 lb & 28.75".
She is cruising & has let go for a couple of seconds but no walking yet. She waves & claps which is so cute.
She has had attachment issues these last couple days & will cry when I leave the room. No fun for me! She has been sleeping better at night, despite her cold. Hopefully it keeps up when she is better!!
We finished our swim class a couple weeks ago... her is a pic:
can't wait What cute pics...you both look adorable.
mia's mama What a busy little guy you have...no wonder his sleep is suffering.
I hope everyone had a fantastic first (for most) mother's day. I had an amazing mother's day. DH took DS for the entire day and I was able to do whatever I wanted. Of course there was not much I wanted to do but the potential freedom was all I needed. I actually took two big naps and loved every second of it. We went to brunch at a local country club and had chocolate fondue AND boston creme pie for dessert and had Outback takeout (after DS went to bed) for dinner. It was so nice to just be able to relax. It was also funny watching DH trying to take care of DS. He was fine for 98% of it with the help of very detailed instructions but still had a bit of difficulty especially around mealtimes. Mealtimes are a bit of an art around here and it is hard to just jump into. DS woke up at 4am for a bottle (has been STTN until 6:30am for the past week or so) because I don't think he ate enough yesterday.
Yep, we still use one... or a mei tai anyway. A sling hurts my back since DD is so big but the MT distributes the weight & so it is easy on the back. I actually just got a solarveil MT for the summer & our cruise... it can go in the water & protects from the sun.
mkvh We have nice healthy babies. :)
DD is working on her 6th tooth & her sleep has just recently gone to crap. She was doing so well for at least a week... & now this stupid tooth is bothering her. Her naps are shorter & she is waking up more at night. :( Ugh.
DD is also throwing some huge fits. She'll kick her legs & thrash around. Does anyone else's DC do this? I wonder if I'm in for a tough time when she hits 2???:confused:
DH took DD all day, and the dog and I went outside and weeded all of my flower beds. Okay, the dog really didn't pull his weight, so I had to pick up his slack ;) I'm sore today, but I got everything done so I'm so happy for that.
We also had DD's 9 month visit on Friday:
weight: 24 pounds
length: 31 inches
She's 96+% for everything! She's a big girl; but porportional.
I'm jealous of you ladies with the big healthy kids. :p DD was about 18 lbs at her 9 month visit, and I don't think she's gained much since. I actually called the ped today because I'd noticed her diapers getting looser, and even DH asked me this weekend if I'd moved up a size because they're so baggy. The nurse said not to worry about it, she's probably just losing baby fat since she's so active. She didn't have that much fat to lose! They offered to do a weight check but I have to pay a copay, blah. I can do a feed and weigh at the hospital's BFing meetings, but they all fall during her nap or sleep times. So I guess we'll just wait, unless she's magically awake at 2:30 PM one of these days...
DH got me a membership to the Botanical Gardens here in town, which is awesome. Another place to walk with DD! I thought it was a cool gift. We also went out to Famous Dave's on Saturday night, and DD ate nearly everything on my plate. Pulled pork, chicken, corn, potato salad, cornbread muffin.. she loved it all. :D I would have loved to sleep in and/or let DH take DD for several hours, but nursing hampers that a bit. We'll have plenty of time for that when she's weaned, I suppose.
Hope you all had a great Mother's Day!!
Lizard It doesn't really help if you are trying to do a pre/post feeding weight change, but I often weight DS at home to gauge weight gain/loss since he is an easy weight loser and slow gainer. But I step on the scale holding him, look at the number, put him down, weight just me, then subtract the him+me number from the just me number and that is his weight. It has been extremely accurate for us. But you'll be able to see if she's lost weight recently. It could be that she is just growing up, not out. DS will look skinny but he actually gained weight.
Chimi, Lizard & mmisabel What thoughtful gifts! What awesome DHs you have!
can't wait DS doesn't quite do that but he will seriously yell at me if he wants something or I'm not doing something to his liking :rolleyes:
I've been out of the loop for SOOO long -- please don't delete me from the roster! Since January we've relocated back to our home state of Texas, sold our home in CA (finally) and bought/moved in/unpacked our new home. Exhausting with a little one crawling around, so I can completely sympathize mrst2b2003!
MMK The dog hair thing drives me nuts! New house is two story and our baby gates arrive this week. Jake, our sweet lab, will be banned from the upstairs (M's nursery, guest room, bathrooms). I vacuum the downstairs almost nightly. Someday I'll probably give it up and try to live with it, but I'm just not there!
As for us, M has 6 teeth, is crawling, and as of last weekend has begun pulling up to standing! She gets so excited when she is in that position. Adorable! We had a great Mother's Day. DH took M from me after her 7 a.m. nursing session and let me sleep in, took the two of us out to brunch, and gave me a spa day. Glorious!
Including a pic of our little sweetie. And I can't remember who in the thread mentioned concern about a 'thin' baby, but Maddie is definitely in that group. She was 29" at her 9 mos WBV, but just under 18 lbs. DH and I are on the tall, lean(ish) side, so she seems to come by it naturally. But I still freak out about it a bit and really monitor her meals, nursing sessions, etc.
Taken at 6 mos:
Just checking in with D's 9 month stats...
Height - 27.5"
Weight - 18.8 lbs.
25% all around
No teeth yet, but eating up a storm. Loves ALL kinds of food. Only crawling backwards, but I'm not worried as he somehow manages to get where he needs to be. Already thinking about a 1st birthday bash - any themes brewing?
I'm envious of all you ladies moving to new homes, especially those in MA - I want to move back badly!! We sold our place and will close May 31st, but still have not found a great new house. We'll be moving in with the ILs until we do:) I'm sure the boys will have a blast with all that attention showered on them, but we need a house asap! This will be our second go around with the in-laws, as we lived with them for 9 months right after we got married until our new construction townhouse was finished. I'm a little worried about the boundary setting with the kid's routine, though. Any advice?
dandygirl
05-16-2007, 10:09 PM
Advice for ILs and boundary setting... we were there from DD's 5th-7th months, so sleep for us was really wacky. I was demand feeding in the beginning of our stayover, and because my ILs are real "schedule/planner" people, I felt like I might've been under scrutiny a bit. That said, they really respect our parenting choices and don't push things too much. So I never really felt the need to boundary set, so much as I just made sure I was clear about my intentions with her nursing/meals, bath/bed routine, etc. I don't know if that really helps you...
If at all possible, just try to have outings for yourself and your DC on a regular basis, and some sort of solace in their home if it can be had. That was my sanity saver. I'm a quiet type usually, so I needed to retreat a fair amount. I also joined a new mom's group so that DD and I could go somewhere once a week with people our own age. ;)
Otherwise, take advantage of the babysitting and squeeze in a few dates/outings with your DH! If they are amenable to that, I should say. Ours were, and it was great!
WOW! At my DD's 9 month visit last week she was 26 inches long and 15 lbs 12 oz!!!
Oh yeah, we have a horse. :D j/k She's actually fairly lean looking; not rolls and rolls of baby. She does have a bit of a belly, but ehh - she's a baby. Both DH and I are tall, so we fully expect her to be about 6 feet tall.
Has anyone heard that if you take your DC's length at 18 months and double it, that is how tall your child will be? A lady at work told me this and was wondering if anyone else heard this.
If you ladies don't mind, I'm wanna start chatting with you all in this thread...I'm from the September mommies thread (my baby was born 3 weeks early...August 18)...but the September thread moves slow as molasses!!
Claire makes 9 months on tomorrow!! YEAH!! I've been exclusively pumping since DD was born...I'm trying to make it to one year!! Just 3 more months!! DD is pulling up on EVERYTHING...her favorite thing to do now is standing while holding on whatever is nearby. She's beginning to get a little more brave...like letting go of the table while grabbing hold of the edge of the sofa or somewhere else in close proximity. I believe she will soon be letting go and standing on her own for a few seconds. She's also beginning to get this "separation anxiety"...she's perfectly happy when either DH or I are in the room with her, but if we leave her in the room by herself, she'll start crying.
Here are a few pictures...
You DD is so cute! Sounds like your going to make your (pumping)goal of a year - no problem! All that pulling up and letting go and getting brave - lookout walking is right around the corner.
Cute photo of your DD in your avatar! That is great advice for those oving in with their IL's, lucky for us we didn't have to do that when we built our new home. BTW nice home!!!
LTJC
Great 9 month stats! Hope that you survive the move in with the IL's while you find your new place - hopefully it won't be for that long.
Too funny about the only wanting to crawl in reverse, Jacob has just started doing the crawling in reverse but he mainly crawls forward. No teeth - wow... I'm sure they'll all come in at once - I have heard that from so many mothers.
Update:
Jacob is getting in to the cupboards, crawling backwards, playing hide and seek, getting two new teeth (lower right & upper left), talking up a storm mainly babbling other than mama & dada, & absolutely loving his swim class - last week we went underwater!
We just sent out our 1st Birthday invitations today, I think our theme is under the sea/crabs. I have to work on the cake next - since we moved I have yet to find a good cake place.
We are finally getting Jacob baptised on June 17th (Father's Day) at the church we will be welcomed into as members this Sunday. We have to meet with the pastor who married us about the baptism on June 3rd. So happy to be getting this done finally - afterwards we are going out to eat and back home for cake since we are only having immediate family at the baptism only.
It is Jacob's nap time must go and getting him down.
" add your height and your husbands plus 6 inches and divide by two" theoys.
I've heard this theory too (from my ped), but only for boys. It's pretty accurate for my brothers -- my dad is 6'5 and my mom is 5'7 -- my brothers are 6'3 and 6'5. I on the other hand am 5'10. My ped went by the "double your height at 18 months" thing and predicted that I would be 6 feet tall. Close enough!
Craftgenuis - Welcome! Your daughter is such a cutie!
Height Predictors
I found a few cool ones at About.com. Here's the link:
http://pediatrics.about.com/cs/growthcharts2/a/height_predictr.htm
They all predict that C will be between 5'9" and 5'11". Makes sense to me. I always have thought she'd be close to 6'. (I am 5'6", and DH is 6'5".)
As for the mom + dad/x calculation, it's different for boys and girls. I think for girls you subtract something first. And the double height at X age had different ages for boys and girls according to some drs. Although you really can't go by that because I was supposed to be 6'! I was just a tall little kid!
Craft - she's just adorable. I love her hair!
Growth Predictors - I don't know about DS's stats, but I did the 'height at 2 years old' one for DD and it said she's too tall to make a prediction! Oh my. (She was 37 3/4 " at her 2-year visit last fall. People are always saying she looks like a 3 or 4 year old.)
Must gush for a moment: DS took his first unassisted steps last night! He's been cruising and pulling up and climbing and standing for so long that I knew it was coming, but it was still SO awesome. DH even got to see since L decided to do it on a weekend. :) It was just as wonderful as when DD took HER first steps. :) I'm not entirely sure that I'm ready for my 9.5 month old (DD was 11 months) to be fully mobile, but I figure oh well - he crawls super fast already and at least I can see him better if he's standing. :)
Abby's Mom - Yay for stepping! We also had our first step on Saturday. She won't take more than one, but she's doing it over and over again. Plus she just seems so much more confident on her feet. Walking is just around the corner!
I have to tell you ladies what happened yesterday. We went out to the grocery store, and while we were shopping DH gave DD a box of stick butter to play with (she loves cold things). DH took the cart with DD, while I ran off to another part of the store, and when I came back DD had EATEN into the butter!! Like, a quarter stick at least! DH hadn't even noticed. :rolleyes: We bought the butter of course, and had soo many people asking "Did she EAT all that?" when they saw the big hole in the box. I was so embarassed, LOL. Thank goodness she's not allergic!!
I am starting to make plans for her 1st birthday... my folks are coming into town the weekend of 6/29, so we're hoping to do something on either 6/30 or 7/1. Probably just an informal cookout with friends and the family that can travel in. I'm also planning on getting her hair cut before then, and having some 1 year photos taken. I can't wait, we haven't taken formal photos since Christmas!
Count us in with Abby'smom--we have a walker in our house too! K has been taking steps for a while now, but yesterday she walked clear across the living room!
We also HAVE To start babyproofing. K has figured out how to open cabinets, which led to her getting ahold of the furniture polish the other day. By the time I got to her, she had squirted some in her mouth :eek: I had to call poison control to make sure that stuff isn't toxic. Thank goodness it was the kind that is all-natural, but still, it made me realize that I need to get all the chemical stuff out of reach until I can get cabinet locks put on!
Just a small update on Mia.
She has her first Ear Infection and when they weighed her she was 22lbs and 8 ounces. She'll be 9 months on June 2! She's a chunky monkey but is thinning out due to all her crawling/cruising.
She started pulling to stand a week ago and since has started moving between objects. Yesterday, she was standing at our chaise lounge and the jumperoo is right next to it. She let go with one hand, grabbed the jumperoo and moved her feet so she was holding just the jumperoo.
She's also learning to crawl up stairs which is SCARY! I'm SO not ready for that, yet. She's moving all around and is even craling like normal (not just army crawling). It's amazing how fast she's growing.
I need to do an update of all her milestones. She waves bye-bye with her entire arm now, blows kisses, and tries to catch things when we throw them to her. That's hilarious.
I will get a picture to post of her soon. I need to get them on Photobucket so they can be posted on here.
Just a quick drive by post to ask for some prayers tomorrow. Julia has been having these "episodes" if you will (two times since Friday) where she is fine one minute and screaming bloody murder the next, like she's in pain. You pick her up and she just stops breathing, almost like the wind was knocked out of her, and then she passes out. Friday she was at my moms house when it happened and her face turned purple, when she came to she was still limp like a rag doll and was just whimpering. It happened again Sunday morning when she was playing blocks with DH. She turned like she was going to crawl away and just started screaming. He picked her up and she went limp.
Sooooo, this morning we got in to see the ped and he said from what we told him it sounds like she is having some kind of seizure and they scheduled an EEG for tomorrow morning at 8:30. If there is any abnormal activity she will need and MRI. Right now I'm just trying to be positive, while preparing myself for the fact that she may need the MRI.
If you pray, please say an extra prayer for my baby tonight, and if you don't, some good thoughts would work just as well. Thanks.
Mystikal ~ Thinking of you....
I haven't been here in a while. We went to Kingsmill Resort and Spa in Williamsburg, VA w/ the ILs over the weekend. It was so nice to have reinforcements around for DS when I wanted some time to myself (or to pee in private ;) ) The best part by far was that DS STTN both nights in the PNP in our room with us...we were really worried that he'd be up all night. The last 3 overnight trips we took w/ him, he refused to sleep. But apparently, being a few months older really made the difference. Yay! Now I'm not so nervous about taking him to FL in 2 weeks.
We have his 9 mo WBV on Friday. I'm really excited to see how much he weighs. He's still army crawling but every now and then, he'll crawl normally, so I know he can do it. He's a pulling up machine lately too...and finally he learned how to get into a sitting position in his crib. I love going in there in the morning and seeing him sitting up waiting for me :)
Mystikal I hope everything turns out well at the dr's today and it turns out that it will be something she will outgrow.
mobility No crawling whatsoever and no sign of it. He cruises like a maniac and can walk only holding one finger of one hand. I think he likes the security too much so I don't think he'll be doing unassisted steps or walking anytime too soon. The funny thing is that he cannot (more like will not) pull up at all. I am really looking forward to seeing how all this will pan out. I soooo can't wait until he can move on his own...this is all torture on my back.
sippy cups In another thread Mystikal posted about DD not taking a sippy and a lot of people mentioned the straw sippies. DS did ok with regular sippies but he would not tip it up or use his hands (although he *can* if he wanted). We bought the straw sippy and it is amazing. He LOVES it and drinks 3+ozs out of it when he barely drank anything out of the others.
personality DS' personality is coming out more and more each day and we love it. He is so much fun and so incredibly goofy. Even though it is a PITA, DS' separation anxiety is pretty sweet. Like when he is playing and has one hand on my leg or is standing and just turns around asking for a hug and then holds on real tight. I love being a mommy so much!
communicating He has been communicating sooo much lately. When he wants breakfast he will "walk" over to his booster and pat at it. He is also completely obsessed with trees and will point at them and say "da", I will say "tree", and he has this look of "ohhhhh" on his face every time. The same thing with ceiling fans.
lindybug
05-22-2007, 09:09 AM
Yes, I love the ceiling fan look! ;)
sippy ~ My DS will not take it either! For a while, he was holding it, and biting on the tip. Now he just pushes it away. I think I have bought every single type of sippy on the market... Avent, Nuby, Gerber, Playtex, Take & Toss, etc. I've tried the T&T straw cups too, but he doesn't seem to get it. He LOVES drinking out of my water bottle though. *sigh*
---
Just checking in here -- there's no way I can read back through all the pages I have missed, but I did want to say hi!
Things are good here. L is sleeping relatively well -- she woke, crying, 2x last night, but she soothed herself quickly and went back to sleep. I didn't have to go in her room at all!
I think we are in a nap transition period right now. She is starting the process of going down from two naps to one, but it looks like it may be a while. She only took one nap yesterday, and was up 4 hours before her first nap. But today, she needed a nap after only being awake 1 hour! So I just never know...
She is cruising like a champ and has taken one or two veeeeeeeeery shakey steps, but mostly refuses to let go of the furniture/my fingers.
I have no idea how much she weighs these days. I would guess around 20 lbs.
ROs: How many do we have in here now? I think there were 2 or 3 the last time I checked in. Any more?
I feel a little nervous just saying this, but DH and I are tentatively planning to TTC #2 in late August. I feel scared of having another newborn, especially with a toddler, but I know we want another eventually, and DH really wants them to be close in age. I don't know how many we will end up having, but there is a possibility that we might want more than 2, and I am 27 now, so... I was off the pill for a year when we conceived L, so I don't want to wait too long.
Those who had/are expecting 2 under 2, did you get some weird reactions from family and friends, or were they supportive? I know my parents would be happy to have another grandchild, but my mom doesn't think it's a good idea to have them so close together. If we are successful, I don't think I will tell her until I absolutely have to. I just don't want to hear any negativity.
Shelby - Interesting about the naps.... DD has started fighting her 2nd nap, not every day, but most of the time. But then yesterday, she slept 2 hours in the afternoon! I hope it's not nap transition already, I really like her 2 nap schedule. :D
Also, with the TTC thing... we are probably going to start trying in August too. So I'm right there with ya on the fear thing. I can't even wrap my brain around having 2 kids yet, it's very scary to me.
I havent been here in a while, but wanted to show some support for Mystikal.
Last week, DD was in the hospital for dehydration. She got a nasty stomach virus and couldnt keep anything in her. Then, she went on a complete fluid strike...we tried everything...water, pedialyte, formula....in every manner we could think of....bottle, water bottle, sippy cups, straws, etc. NOTHING worked. So, she ended up in the hospital for dehydration. It's scary when the dr touches her tummy, asked when she drank last and then immediately leaves the room to call the hospital! We only stayed one night but she had an IV for 30 hrs (I never want to have to watch her get another one!). But, she's doing well now. The only thing that I didnt even think of was Jello! The nurse said that it counts as a fluid.
Anyway - hang in there Mystical!! I'll be thinking of ya!
Oh, by the way, soulmate, my DD isnt crawling either. She has no interest. But, she's cruising and loves to walk holding onto our hands. She's never liked being on her tummy. But I cannot wait until she's mobile! My back is killing me too!! (plus, i'm really tired of hearing people make comments like "once she's mobile, you'll wish she never was") :rolleyes:
You get lots of comments out in public, but most of the people I've encountered who have said anything were a) in awe and b) complimentary that we were willing to have them close together. :) Really, though, if you have serious reseverations, DO wait longer. Thanks everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. We are still waiting to hear from the dr, but I can say with absolutely certainty that this was the worst experience of my life. DH and I had to hold DD down while she had the electrodes attached to her head. She screamed. I cried. It was horrible. All I wanted to do was pick her up and comfort her but I couldn't. The ped said he is thinking she has what is called arteriovenous malformation. Here's a link I found with some information:
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/avms/avms.htm
I'm not sure how I feel about it. One the one hand, I'm relieved that most people don't suffer severely, but on the other, some of those symptoms really scare me. Once I hear from the doctor I'll update. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers.
Haven't had time to catch up, but sending my prayers to you Mystikal- What an incredibly scary time.
We just got back this evening from a week away. 4 of those days were without DD while we were on a cruise. We definitely did miss her, but the time alone was nice as well. The hardest part was in at night when I couldn't go in and watch her sleep. But she had a great time with my MIL. There won't be many more times of her taking her overnight since we only get down these 1-2 times a year and hopefully we'll have #2 next year.
Speaking of which, I'm going off BCP this weekend, though we don't plan on ttcing until August. It takes my body a couple of months to adjust so we'll be TTA (hopefully successfully) until then.
Mystikal--I'm sorry that you did not get better news from the ped. I hope when you hear from him again, you get a more definitive answer and some peace. I'll continue to think of you.
2 under 2: We've already been asked several times if it was "planned". But most people knew we were planning to have another child sooner rather than later. I'm sure the comments from strangers will come when I'm big and round and wrangling a 15 month old! As for reservations, no. I KNEW from the time C was born that I wanted another baby soon. Since I've been pg? Yeah, I've freaked out about 2 under 2 a few times, but I think that's only normal. We all freaked out, thinking, "What have I done?" with #1 also!
jessey--Ahhh...no more BC! Congrats and good luck.
Nothing new here. Still working on walking and trying to talk. FIL taught her to say "uh-oh", which is one of the cutest sounds EVER!
I'm glad she is ok now and the stay was short. Those hospital cribs sure are scary aren't they? The look like cages to me. I'm so glad someone else can commiserate on the walking/cruising issue. Sometimes I feel like DS is so strange (which I love BTW). I too don't see how once he walks on his own how that can be harder than what we are going through now. At least I can stand upright and stay in one place for a few seconds ;) But I also realize it could be one of those times like when we were pregnant and wishing the baby was here and the experienced mommies would tell us to appreciate the freedom a little longer. Plus I can't wait to see that cute little baby waddle! Oh, and the squat with the little diaper butt!
mystikal I hope you get the results soon, I'm sure the wait is torture.
2 under 2 We plan on TTCing (our current plan at least) around September which, if pregnant right away, would be around DS' 2nd birthday. It is not ideal in the short term but 1) my body won't let me wait much longer (had issues conceiving DS) and 2) I want them to be close in age anyway. The upside is that they will both be fairly independent in self-care around the same time.
isn't there something called walkingwings that is a harness that goes around the kiddo and allows you to walk upright while still being able to catch them if they fall. I know that it worked well for a tall friend of mine.
Yes, they have them at the BRU near us.
Mystikal:
So sorry to hear that even after the tests they don't have a definitive answer for you yet. Continuing thoughts and prayers for you and you DD.
Jessey:
No more safety net, good luck with TTA till August.
Two under Two
I admire you ladies, not so sure I could handle another one right now. It can be done I have a couple of friends and relatives that have two under two and they make it work but it sure isn't easy.
Update:
So J has started this temper tantrum thing out of the blue.... Not sure what it is, doesn't last too long and then he is laughing but boy is this what it is going to be like when he's two - YIKES!
He was too funny last night with a serving spoon - holding it up, trying to crawl with it, chasing the cat with it, it kept him busy for a couple hours - who would have guessed. He has DH & I in stitches laughing.
He is also an expert at making my kitchen a disaster in seconds, he has cabinets open and everything in them all over the floor.
I have had to go to letting him CIO for naps and it is working, he is just fighting me tooth and nail and it just is not worth it. Also if I get him to sleep he wakes the minute I put him in the crib so today it was less crying than yesterday. He is also getting better about waking he doesn't cry he just sits there and plays or talks to himself till he is boredd and then cries for us to come and get him.
J still has no interest in walking, cruising, standing etc., after his early standing in the crib, climbing the stairs, and pulling himself up on the furniture around St. Patty's day - he has only done it a handful of times and is just disinterested now....:rolleyes:
I know that it worked well for a tall friend of mine.I've seen those and thought about getting it but I don't mostly because if you hold DS around his chest he is too stable and doesn't really practice his balance as much. Kind of like training wheels. When I hold him by his hands he is just wobbly enough to try to balance on his own. While I really seriously can't wait until this ends, I know it is temporary and like the little things like DS grabbing for my hands and tugging on my pant legs.
J still has no interest in walking, cruising, standing etc., after his early standing in the crib, climbing the stairs, and pulling himself up on the furniture around St. Patty's day - he has only done it a handful of times and is just disinterested now....:rolleyes: DS does this too with other things. You get all excited because they do something new and then they stop. It's like, "ok I know how to do this but I don't want to just yet". I've learned to not get too excited until he keeps doing things.
Update
I talked to someone at the ped's office today and was told that everything came back normal, which is a FANTASTIC thing. I can't tell you all how relieved I am. However, the ped wasn't available so I have no idea what caused it or what the next step is. She has her 12 month wbv in just over a month so I'll make sure to have a list of questions and concerns ready when I go to it. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers.
Mystical wonderful news!!!!! Keep us all posted on what more you find out
Sippy DD isn't really interested in sippies either. I ended up buying a few plastic cups from BRU in the party section. She LOVES the Strawberry Shortcake one - points at the cat in her arms, SS's face, etc. Endless smiles at the highchair, so I use that to give her sips of water during snack time and am continuing to try sippies when we're out and about.
walking/standing/crawling Maddie began crawling in her 8th month, and not 3 weeks into it she was pulling up to standing. I was so excited for her, but I also get emotional thinking about how all too quickly this is going. Today we were at a playgroup and she stood up from a sitting position, no hands. Whoa! No cruising yet, but I know we're very close.
Personality ahhh...my favorite. I can swear she has her dad's funny, silly side. She giggles easily, and often this kind of throaty chortle when things really pick up. I was getting her out of her carseat today and she took one look at me, then stuck out her tongue. I laughed and she smiled, tongue still out. That fun continued all evening -- bliss!
sttn Sunchaser, we ended up doing a little CIO ourselves a few weeks ago. She started getting all four top teeth at once, so her sttn stopped rather abruptly. It was getting to the point where she was waking 4-5 times a night and DH or I would have to rock her back to sleep. If she wasn't in a deep sleep and we put her in the crib, she'd push up on all fours and wail, then we'd start again. After talking to our ped, the leader of my mom's group, and a cousin of mine with similar parenting style we decided to try it. We knew that we were just enabling what could become an exhausting habit - and we weren't helping her learn to soothe herself. The first night she cried for almost 30 mins, the second night was shorter, and the 3rd less than 10. All three nights she sttn from 7p-6a. And since then we go through her routine, then she goes down right at 7. She's now waking earlier -around 5:30, but we're all so much happier and well-rested. I never thought CIO was for me, and it was definitely not easy, but I knew she was OK and it worked for us...
Mystikal - That is great news. Hopefully you'll be able to shed some light at your 12 mo visit. I can't believe in a month our babies will start turning a year!
I sometimes wonder if DD will never get to crawling - she rocks on all fours, but is also content to roll and scooch backwards. But now she is very interested in trying to pull herself up. But we wonder how well she'll be able to support her 21 lb body on her size 1 feet!!
Mystikal - glad to hear everything is okay!
ttc again - we'll be actively trying again in August (charting, OPKs, etc). Right now we are just basically SWHs and have been since N was born. It usually takes clomid for us to get pregnant, but since I'm cycling on my own for once, it might actually happen drug free. If not, in August N will be a year and I will start the (very slow) process of weaning. I don't want to wean her quicker than she's ready, but can't go on clomid until she is weaned, so if she hasn't weaned herself by next January and we haven't gotten pregnant on our own, I'll have to kick up the weaning into high gear. DH wants to get pregnant sooner, rather than later, since he's older and wants to be done by the time he's 40.
Mystikal--FABULOUS NEWS! I hope the episodes stop.
dandy--C did the EXACT SAME THING YESTERDAY--stood up on her own, not holding onto anything. AHhh...we're going to have walkers very, very soon!
Sippy--C likes the short, fat Nubys at mealtime, but we've started replacing one bottle a day (I've been supplementing since I got pg and my supply is dwindling) with a sippy, and she likes the tall, no handle Nubys for that. *shrug* She also really likes drinking out of a "real" cup and out of water bottles.
STTN--Yeah, not so much lately. I hope we're teething, because that would explain the 1/2 hour screamfest we had at 3 a.m. last night.
jessey--LOL about the size 1 feet! My nephew just turned 1 this week, and he didn't crawl on all 4s till about 2 weeks ago. But he army crawled for MONTHS and even pulled up from army crawl position. Apparently, a lot of peds consider any form of non-standing movement to be meeting the "crawling" milestone.
jenny--yay for cycling on your own. That's fantastic. I've been thinking of you and your family and Andrew over the last few days.
cosmic & craftgenius--You and the LOs are too cute!
Mystikal: You and Julia are in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated on everything.
Craftgenius: Hey, Mel! Welcome to the thread! Your DD is so cute!
***************************
Sippy: DS will not take a sippy or straw cup. He will however drink from DH's water bottle, or my cup :rolleyes:.
Crawling/Walking/Standing: DS is crawling (at lightning speeds), pulling up and standing. I don't know what I'm going to do when he starts to walk.
Personality: DS is a real goofball - just like his dad. Although, now that he's teething and has a cold, he's been more whiny lately.
BFing issues: We've been having some breastfeeding issues lately. DS has taken to biting me, and then laughing about it.
Sleep Training: Recently (last Sunday), we started sleep-training DS, using the Ferber method. It's going well. Slowly, but well. He's gone from only being able to sleep with us in our bed to sleeping in his crib for 2 - 3 hours at a time. He also falls back to sleep easier. So, we're definitely making progress :)
Mystical-so glad to hear that the tests came back normal, I'm sure that's a HUGE relief!
Sunchaser-glad to hear that CIO is working for you.
Sippies-K will drink out of any sippy, but she prefers the "take & toss" ones with straws. Anytime she sees a cup with a straw in it, she starts smacking her lips.
Bfeeding-I'm gearing up for weaning when K turns one, but I'm just at a total loss as for how to go about it. The daytime won't be a problem, it's the nights/morning that I'm dreading. She still nurses 1-2x a night. I've tried SO hard to break her of it, but she screams at me til I give in. Any advice??
I got a call from the ped's office this morning at work telling me that for some reason when they gave me the results yesterday the doctor hadn't read the report yet. They said while everything looks normal they want a second opinion, due to the fact that she had two episodes in less than a week. We have to go to a childrens hospital that is two hours away for another EEG and a meeting with the pediatric neurologist tomorrow morning. I am LIVID that they would even consider giving me the results before the doctor okayed it, but I'm glad they are looking for a second opinion. My boss told me that they didn't need me today and to go home and be with my daughter. I love that they care that much.
Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I'm sure everything will be fine since they said everything looked normal, but I'm just dreading going through the whole procedure tomorrow again. I feel so bad for my baby
Cross posted in Photography thread:
I'm in search of a pro photographer to photograph my son for his first birthday pictures. I don't want anything posed, just very natural pictures in our backyard of him doing his thing, and maybe some with me and my DH too. The problem is, I don't know how to go about finding a photographer in my area. Everything I've seen is too posed, with props etc and that's not what I'm looking for. Any suggestions?
babylove when I wanted photographer recs, I posted the question on our local parents' e-mail list group and got a ton of responses...even a nursery school teacher who did shots on the side, and then I just looked at websites. we haven't actually done it yet, and I'm not sure when we will, but I have a list of names saved on my computer. are there any local parents' group that have a website or computer list?
also, I know that in my area, there are some "baby guides" with local recommendations for all vendors. maybe there is something like that for your area too?
mystikal thinking of you.
makena I haven't been around this thread much, but I was scrolling back through, and oh I was so sorry to read you had a hospital stay. I am all too familiar with how much those suck (and IVs--YUCK!). Glad it was short at least. Take care!
Thanks, ladies! It sucked today just as bad as Tuesday, if not more, because I wanted to choke the stupid bitch that did the test. Ooh, she got on my nerves. Anyway, everything came back normal again, so they did an EKG just to be on the safe side. I won't hear back from that for at least another week. My poor girl is so sick of people touching her, she had a meltdown when I tried to wipe her face after dinner!
Sorry I don't have time to go catch up with everyone. Hopefully things will die down now and I can catch up wtih all the happenings!
DD started pulling to stand on things other and people last weekend, and went right into cruising after a day. Tonight she pulled up on the bookcase, let go, and stood on her own for probably three seconds before falling on her butt! She'll definitely be walking by her first birthday. :eek:
Anyway, a couple new pics of my cutie, because I can, and because I know everyone here loves babies! lol.
Mystikal - so glad to hear she is ok. Enjoy the show, you deserve it!! Your DD is beautiful, btw..
We are cruising along over here too. N has stood by himself once only, but I think it's just a matter of time. Unfortunately, N got his 5th ear infection last week, so I'm not sure where that leaves us in terms of tubes, etc. We are seeing his Ped on Thursday.
We ordered N's invites thanks to JennW who has www.doodlebrush.com We are doing a Hawaiian/Luau/Surf theme. I think I am going to do mostly red/white/blue since it is so close to the 4th!
Mystikal I hope that you guys get a chance to relax some this weekend and enjoy just normal family time.
Logan has another ear infection. Thankfully I caught it earlier than last time now that I know his signs. He is just a bit whiny and cries during diaper changes (his tell tale sign) but is doing well otherwise. On a more silly note, DS put the ball to his drop and roar dinosaur in the right hole yesterday. Yea for fine motor skill development ;)
SOULMATE so how did you know about the ear infection the first time? fever, ear pulling? just wondering, L every once and a while will tug on his ear and I don't know if it's just him or if it hurts.. not fever no change in appetite just curious thanks
soulmate:Kate has learned how to put the balls in the drop and roll dinosaur too. It's so funny to watch her do it b/c she's concentrating SO hard. She doesn't laugh or clap or anything, just picks up the ball, puts it in, picks it back up, puts it in, and repeats for like 5 minutes :p
klav The first time I had no signs. The ped found a pretty bad (red & bulging) double ear infection at his 9 mo WBV. In hindsight and what helped me see it quickly this time was only his crying when I laid him down to change his diaper. What was new this time is bouts of coughing at night only. The ped said that that is their way of trying to clear the blockage and a sign of an ear infection. DS pulls at his ears all the time normally (when he is tired or doesn't want to be somewhere/doing something) so it is not a sign for us. But the main signs are crying when laying down and coughing at night. His appetite has decreased also but it does that randomly and also with teething so that is never a good sign something is wrong. I would say ear pulling alone is not a reliable sign of an ear infection.
smurf DS does the same thing. It is so methodical. It makes you appreciate how easy the simple things are to do when you watch them learn everything for the first time.
Hi all! We just got back from vacation to the beach and Mia's down for a nap so I have a quick second. I'm rarely on but I thought I'd update everyone.
Mia is the youngest in here so it's fun to see what other's are doing that she gets to look forward to.
Let's see...
Mia has been crawling since April 6th and in the past week and a half is finally crawling on all fours and not just army crawling. She's been pulling up to stand for about 2 weeks now and can go back and forth between objects with ease.
She's also developing her pincer grasp and can successfully pick up puffs with her pointer and thumb. She's getting to be so big! :) She's wearing size 12 month/some 18 month outfits. She's got a long torso. She weighs about 22.5 pounds but I'm not sure on her height. We have her 9 month WBV in 2 weeks. She wears size 5 shoes (some of her size 4s still fit)... she's got big feet like her momma! ;)
She can walk with ease (with us holding her hands). She LOVED the beach this weekend and enjoyed playing in the sand and crawling into the waves. She's a dare devil. I'll be back with pictures when they are uploaded.
camdynlyn It sounds like your DD is growing nice and strong...yea for crawling. I imagine it is so cute to watch.
klav Keep an eye on him. Having a fever while teething is a myth (the put a lot of stuff in their mouths and catch germs and viruses - not teething itself) so it may be an ear infection. I know when I took DS into the ped for an ear check and he didn't have an ear infection they didn't charge me (nothing to code) maybe yours will do the same?
It is a big day in the soulmate household! Logan took his first steps today! Woooo hoo! He still prefers to hold onto your hands and his steps are
