what do you do when they're really mobile? Like 2-3 years old? Do you let them hang with you in the bathroom?
My 3 year old (HOW"S THAT POSSIBLE!!!!!!!) usually just sits and watches Sesame Street on my bed or plays with his toys. The roughest age was 1 to 2 years old. That was when I was pulling my hair out. He hated to stay in his crib and I couldn't figure out what to with him. Sometimes I'd fill the sink up with soapy water so he's stay in there and play, sometimes I'd let him cry in his room. He'd wake up around 5:30-6, so I could not beat him up. The times I thought I did, I'd get out of the shower to a screaming kid. It was frustrating.
------
John is doing well. We almost hit pounds, but I think he's in another growth spurt the way he's been eating and grumping. He's scooting on the floor now and sitting unassisted (a month earlier than big brother did!). I just pulled out the 6-9 month clothes because I refuse to buy 3-6 month fall/winter things. Found out I have 3 snow suits! A bit excess, ya think!? Crazy. But I think we'll be out a lot more with DS1 so I guess it will be a good thing.
Christmas ideas- I think we'll be doing a lot of things J 'needs' like sippy cups, plates, forks, I'll let DS1 pick out a toy to give to his brother and let him wrap it up and all that stuff. I'll probably also be getting J a walker type thing. DS1 has a firetruck one that I KNOW will not be given to brother. It's too sacred. So I'll find something special for J. Guess that will be all for J. I'm sure it will be plenty once I go through the attic of toys that he'll be into by then as well.

Solids: Well, I guess we have been giving Carter rice cereal in his bottle since he was about 2 1/2 months old (to help with his reflux). I guess that kind counts...
We are wanting to start on actual baby food this weekend. What do you suggest giving to him first? He's 5 months old.

MAG: If you are wanting to start solids, the best thing to start with is avocado. Just mash it up and mix it with breast milk/formula. It's a great food to start with because it is allergy friendly and is a great source of good fats.

We started with sweet potatoes for Nic... thought they worked well as a frist food and not TOO messy!
eta: oooh... love the avacado idea better tho!

MAG- Our ped said to try veggies before fruit, but I know some poeple who were told to try fruit before veggies. One of the moms in my new moms group was told to start with each grain (first rice, then oatmeal, then barley) before branching out to either veggies or fruit. And one was told to do all the orange veggies before green. My opinion is that it really doesn't matter.
Tandis- That's terrible that your insurance co. won't pay for more than $300 for the year! That doesn't seem like much to me.
It turns out that Millie is LOVING food. She gets angry when it's all gone, which is really cute:D So far, we've done rice cereal, squash, and carrots. She was a little iffy on squash the first day, but then she gobbled it up after that. We did carrots today and I'm not totally sure she realized that it wasn't squash:p
One funny thing about eating is that she insists on sucking on her thumb for a second after each bite. I don't know if it helps her swallow or what, but it's just really funny to watch the process.

I really need to get a hands free setup when I pump because I'm always on CC but I suck at typing with one hand so I end up doing a lot of lurking instead of posting.
Showering- I just realized that I can take the high chair in the bathroom. She can't get out of that yet. I do bathe with her sometimes but I still need a place to put her while I wash myself. If I put her on the rug she would surely find something to get into that she shouldn't.
MommyinPA- glad to hear from you. I've been keeping up with Kaia's CarePage. She's getting so big! I wish you, Kaia, and your family the best.
Tandis- that's ridiculous. I'm really surprised that the ins. co. won't cover their vaxes considering that the gov't and medical establishment is so pro-vaxing. I would definitely look into the health department. The only question I would have is if they use the same brand of vaccines because I think some of the different brands have different dosage schedules.
Orion- enjoy your one on one time with Dalton.
MAG- Wow. I don't know how you handle working and school and being a mom. I think being a SAHM to one child is hard enough.
Kanga- budding little gymnast, eh? You should definitely get it on video before she stops doing it. There were a couple of cute things that Claire did for like a week and I never got a picture or video of them.
Crawling- is anyone's baby crawling yet? Claire is trying so hard. She gets up on her hands and knees about a billion times a day but everytime she tries to move she falls flat on her belly. It will probably be awhile before she figures it out, though, since she just learned to commando crawl a few days ago.
Dog toys- Who else's child is obsessed with the dog's toys? Oh, Claire will play with her own toys but she will move across the room to get at the dog's toys. So gross.

We are officially crawling. She's been getting up on her hands and knees for about a month now and has been moving for the last 2 weeks or so but would move, fall down, get up, move, fall down. She isn't really falling down anymore and she's got her arms and legs pretty well coordinated so I'd say she's crawling! She's still pretty slow but is getting faster each day!

Oh wow, Buffy, that officially scares me!! haha :) Carter is just now getting to the point where he is lifting his whole belly off the ground with his front arms and he's scooting across the floor... too close for comfort for me!!
We went out and bought a convertible car seat (actually, two of them) today. It is basically getting to the point where I don't want to go anywhere anymore because he is getting so heavy in his carrier that clips into the car seat base.
We bought the Evenflo Triumph Advance LX Convertible Car seat as our main one (it was $129.99) and then we bought a Cosco Scenaro for our 2nd car (it was $39.84).

crawling - not yet, but he soooo wants to...
mag - Just an fyi... I don't know where i read it, but it was from some newspaper article somewhere... check your cosco scenera to see if the base is solid or if there's a cut out in it. If there's a cut out (like where baby's head goes) return it! In a crash, it could cause brain damage... (i dont think they're making them anymore that way, but... you can't be too safe, yanno? )

MAG - We have the Scenera for our nanny's car and the Evenflo for my car (I am getting 2 - one for each kid). We have the old Evenflo for DD in each of our cars. I really like Evenflos and the padding is fantastic. And for the $130, it can not be beat. BTW, where did you find it for $130? Our BRU has them for $150.

Carseats...I'm still in the market for our convertable seat but I think I'm getting this one. Evenflo Triumphant DLX
http://trus.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRU1-3854666reg.jpg
It's $150 at BRU....kindermom...the Triumphant LX is $130. I think that's the one MAG posted. I like the fabric on this one. I'm fairly certain there is no leather on it. This is the durango and I know the old durango did have leather but this one appears to not be...unless it's blue leather. I know the sandbox fabric doesn't have leather. But I think the LX one MAG posted does have leather and I've heard you're not able to machine wash those. Not sure how you're supposed to clean them.

So Justin and Sophie came home yesterday and all of the sudden Justin has the baby bug again! Ummmm...does he forget that we have a 20 month old and 5 1/2 month old??? He says that he wants to have another baby! My eyes nearly popped out of my head. I will admit that the old baby bug is starting to nibble on me a bit but I really want to breastfeed Dalton for at least a year. Plus, we just bought a new car and there is no way we could fit 3 britax marathon car seats in the back! What is wrong with my hubby? Isn't it usually the woman who gets the baby bug first. And the thing is, he is serious. He respects that I want to breast feed Dalton but a baby is all he has talked about since getting home...I guess I won't be sending him to anymore weddings!
Crawling: Not yet but he does the yoga position 'downward facing dog' and walks with his feet...in doing this he scrapes his face along the floor but he gets to where he wants to go.
Rolling: OMG yes! Dalton is an old pro at rolling. He can even roll right across the room in order to get a toy that he wants. The other day he rolled right under the couch and a freaked for a minute because I was on the phone and took my eye off of him for two seconds and when I looked back he wasn't there.
Solid food: We started. I didn't want to because of the whole solid food means solid poo and bf is just so easy but he was hungry and I wasn't going to deprive the poor boy just because I don't like solid poo!
Car Seats: We have two Britax Marathons (one for Dalton and one for DD) and we love them. So easy to get them in and out and so comfortable for them but they are really pricey. I got mine on sale for $299 Cdn but normally they are $350 I think. Dalton has been in it rear facing for about three weeks now and loves it. He was just too smooshed in the peg perago infant seat we have...my boy is a big boy!
Buffy: That is amazing! To be crawling and pulling herself up...wow!

Orion- Wow, I can't believe Justin wants to try for another so soon!! Dave's family is like that- he was born in Feb 76, his first sister was born in June 77, and then the next sister was born in May 78. So not only are his 2 sisters irish twins, but Dave is only 15.5 months older than the first sister. On the plus side, they were super close as kids and got mistaken for triplets on a regular basis, but I think it was not so great for my IL's relationship as a couple.
Buffy- That's pretty amazing that Morgan is crawling and pulling up already! Millie is trying SO hard to crawl, but just can't put it all together yet. It actually makes her really frustrated, but what are you going to do? She'll get it soon enough- although I'm hoping not too soon, if you know what I mean:p
Solid food- I know I mentioned that we've started, but we're now officially experiencing solid food poo. Ugh. Millie is not enjoying it either. She pretty much has a tiny pellet of poo in every single diaper now. And she strains to get it out- the face she makes is priceless. I wouldn't say she's constipated because it's not really dry or hard, but it's definitely not the soupy stuff that it used to be!
Car seats- I still have not given this any thought since she is SO far away from growing out of her current seat.

Another quick reply because I'm checking in from work:
Betsy - Have you tried mixing the solids with oatmeal or barley? We've been doing that and haven't had any trouble with poo. Plus, the girls absolutely *love* their oatmeal, so I have no trouble getting them to eat the new foods.
Brink
09-04-2007, 03:49 PM
Betsy - my girls have some days where they have the pellets too and I just mix in a spoonful of prunes with their oatmeal/rice cereal and by the next day they are back to normal. Before I even gave them cereal they were constipated and the ped said to give them prunes. So my poor girls had prunes as their very first meal. But, within a few hours they were all cleaned out!

Thanks for the suggestions, Tandis and Brink! I have been mixing in rice cereal to some of the veggies- is that not as good as barley or oatmeal? Either way, I'll be introducing prunes as her next food (tomorrow).

Betsy - Rice is more of a binder, while barley and oatmeal have more fiber, therefore helping baby poop. :) While on rice, Miss V was going every third day, and I was having to supplement with juice to help her along. My Ped. said to try barley, and that brought her to every other day. Now that she's eating oatmeal, she's pretty much going every day. More information about my daughter's BM than I'm sure you ever wanted to know, but I wanted you to have an idea about the different cereals. :D

Buffy ~ I can't believe she is crawling and pulling herself up already! I don't think we are even close yet.
Rolling ~ Ollie is a pro at rolling and is never where I leave him anymore.
Solids ~ We started this weekend. We gave him just the tiniest taste of a bananna and he loved it, so that night we started on rice cereal. I couldn't get it in his mouth fast enough. He was so excited reaching for the spoon and pulling it right into his mouth. It was hysterical, I am so glad we got it on video. I guess he was definately ready ~ lol! I really wish that there were really clear instructions on starting solids though because I feel a little lost. I've been giving about 1 - 1 1/2 tablespoons (usually just over poor the tablespoon) with a little bit of bm 1x a day. I was planning to do this for a week, then add a veggie (I'm thinking avacado??) at night and cereal in the morning? Does that sound about right?? Should he get cereal 2x's a day with a veg/fruit? I am so confused
Carseats ~ I haven't even moved the straps up to the next slot on his carrier yet, should I?
What are your thoughts... Ollie has been eating a lot more frequently lately and waking up starving during the night. He's been sleeping 8:30ish - 5am at least since he was 10 weeks old, but for the last 3 weeks has been waking up between 1 & 3am to eat, then every 3 hours after that. I thought adding a solid would help, but so far not yet. Could it be a growth spurt? Do I maybe need to give him solids 2x's a day? There has also been a couple of nights that he has woken up screaming & refusing to nurse. When nothing else worked I've tried orajel or tylenol and that has calmed him, he's nursed, and gone back to sleep. I don't see anything to indicate teething, but it kind of sounds like it doesn't it? I hate the guessing game! His 6 month apt isn't until the 28th so I will bring it up then if nothings changed, but honestly since he's definately not sick I think advice from other moms is what you really need in times like these!
In non-baby news, we got an offer on our house over the weekend and the home inspection is today. Please keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well. I don't think there are any problems with the house, but I always get nervous anyway!

tandis - thanks! that was exactly what i was looking for!
mrsk~ hmmm... Have you tried hylands teething tablets? i really like them for teething - and they give an instant kind of relief that might work... it does sound like teething, even if you cant feel them yet... if he's into solids, and he's still poo-ing ok, i would say try increasing solids -- it can't hurt and you can always decrease (but, if he's not poo-ing like he used to or having any issues, i'd take my time increasing them... fingers crossed for your house inspection!

I've never heard of hylands teething tablets... where would I find them? He makes the most gawd awful face when I give him orajel!
So far he is pooing ok so I added cereal at breakfast. I think I will try avacodo or sweet potatoe this weekend, then maybe swith over to oatmeal instead of rice. I think we are definately in the midst of a growth sprut because this is what the last 24hrs looked like:
7:00p - cereal
7:30p - nurse
8:00p - fast asleep in bed
9:30p - woke up starving and nursed
11:40p - woke up needing paci
12:40a - woke up crying but not hungry, tried tylenol and paci
1:15a - woke up starving and nursed... I fell asleep nursing and got back to bed myself at 2:15 :p
5:15a - woke up starving and nursed
7:00a - awake (mommy is really tired!)
7:40a - nursed
8:50a - cereal
9:15a - nursed
11:00a - nursed
1:00p - nursed
3:00p - nursed
4:30p - nursed
5:30 - cereal
6:30 - DH and I went to dinner and MIL gave a 5.5oz bottle. She then took Ollie for a walk, but not even half way into it he started crying because he was hungry again and came home for anoth 2ozs! We got home at 8 and he has been fast asleep since. I REALLY hope I get some sleep tonight... Where did my good sleeper go???

09-06-2007, 08:12 PM
Mrskinnison - my guess is a growth spurt. The last major one is usually around 6 months, and for us seems to be lasting the longest (sorry, that's probably not what you want to hear) Cami's wakings are still the same as her growth spurt which started over 2 weeks ago. Tonight i'm going to try the paci and hope that eventually she'll quit waking. If not at least then dh can help.

I also read something about not being able to wash the Evenflo one that we got, but I'll try it! I don't ever go by those things anyways... like all the shirts that are supposed to be dry clean only.... HA! They get washed!
We bought our Evenflo at BRU and it was $130. The $150 is a little more "cooshy" than the one we bought. I think it just has some additional padding. Ours has plenty of padding, though...
Btw, Carter loves it!!!! :-D

So Millie woke up from her nap just now after only about 30 min- very unusual. I let her talk to herself for a few minutes to see if she'd fall back to sleep, but no dice. I got her out of her crib and changed her diaper like I do after all her naps. Well, let's just say that I discovered what woke her up and that the prunes worked;)

I was checking to see if the next thread was up yet, but it looks like it is still in the works.
I was hoping you gals might be able to give me a bit of insight on a constipation issue. I gave DD avocado for the first time on Friday and then again Saturday & Sunday. Since a good poo on Friday it has been very limited to what appeared to be a big person streak on Saturday. Has anyone else noticed their kids #2 changing like this with the intro of solids? I am thinking I will go back to just oatmeal for a few days and see if that clears her up. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Danalou, sometimes Noah has a really solid poo, but it never seems to cause him discomfort. He will have a day of that, and then more normal days, then another solid day. He eats lots of different things, so I don't know for sure what causes it. Is she hurting?
I have been having a terrible time since school started. I have had bronchitis/sinus infection for 3 weeks. I just got antibiotics for it, and dh and I had a horrible stomach flu this weekend. Noah didn't seem to get it, but something is wrong with him! He cried all day yesterday and woke up hysterical several times last night. I think he's teething, but didn't have problems like this last time. Motrin helps for about 10 minutes. I am a wreck. He's never cried this much, even once. Dh is staying home and taking him to the doctor today.:(
Not even a whole week in daycare and we're missing already.

little thats scary!!
Shimmer feel better....I think we are teething here, just by the way he is nawing on everything. Hang in there....
bedtime Z's last nap is at 3:00pm and then he is awake until 7:30ish and most of the time happy but lets just say when it hits 7:15 or so he is done. We just have to make sure to have his bath and everything done at that point.
We have been super busy here,......Z has the sitting to crawling position down but once he gets down there he is at a loss of how to put the movements all together to get somewhere, which can I say frustrates the heck out of him, were standing with help but thank goodness not on our own or pulling ourself up yet;). I cant believe 14 days we will be 6 months old. Today we started oatmeal full time. I actually sent it to school with him, he is always so hungry but I think were in a growth spurt because he has been eating every 1 1/2-2 hours during the day. Teething, I think thats what were doing, he naws on everything, so I finally got him a berry teether thing and he just naws away. When I give him the refridgerated gel rings he will not let go. *Oh he is moving to the Old Moos now :(, not with the itty bitty babies anymore.
We did get his big boy carseat yesterday. We got the Britax Boulevard and can I say I LOVE this thing and DS LOVES it so much. I think we might end up ditching the Alpha Omega and getting the same one for DH's truck, its so awesome and well worth the price! Not to mention it fits perfectly in my car.

bedtime - Henry gets drowsy around 7:30. I will usually feed him and he will either lightly nap or stay awake until about 10:15. Then he will feed again and go out until at least 4:00 and sometimes 8:00.
Right now we are deep into teething. He has been gnawing on everything and my poor little guy is crying alot and you can tell he is in pain.
He can also support himself in the standing position. DH was standing DS up on the bed and DS jsut stood there holding onto DHs knees. How quickly they grow!
Halloween - We got DS the turtle costume from Children's Place. He will also have DD's shark costume from last year to wear. What can I say, we have required a mid-night change in costume each year. It is so fun to dress the kids up!
Tandis
09-10-2007, 12:42 PM
Bedtime - They both get up from their last nap a little before 4:45 (when I pick them up from my parents), and bedtime is a little before 8 pm. Some days are better than others, and as long as we're in the *feeding* stage of bedtime by 7:30 then A can usually make it until bed. Otherwise, she has a meltdown and it's impossible to do anything other than give her a bottle and put her to bed. V doesn't require sleep every two hours like her sister, so she's usually good until we put her in her crib.
Shimmer - Poor Noah. I hope he's doing better today, as are you.
Danalou - As far as their poo is concerned, it all depends upon how much oatmeal we're mixing in with their solids. But that being said, there are days that it is more solid than others, even though they are eating the same thing as previous days.
Littlemia - Your post inspired me to raise the sides on the cribs. :)
Kindermom - What's wrong with Orajel? Wow, you already bought a Halloween costume?! I'm scared if I buy something now, the girls will have outgrown it by that time. (Though I guess the smart thing to do is by one size up ;))
*********************
We're leaving on Saturday for our vacation. It's a 10 1/2 hour trip that will probably be closer to 12. On one hand I'm super excited to show the girls the ocean and have them play on the beach - on the other hand, I'm petrified because I haven't spent this much time with my girls in months, and I really hope they don't scream for the entire trip.

Bedtime- We put her to bed sometime between 8 and 8:30. It all depends on what time her last nap ended and how cranky she is. We have put her down as ealry as 7:30 before, but I really hate to do it before 8 because of Dave's work schedule- he should at least get to play with her for an hour each day, you know?
Crib rails- Good grief, I never even thought of moving them:eek: She can stand on her own too, so I guess it's about time. Yikes.
Halloween costumes- I haven't even thought about this yet. Do you guys have somewhere to take your babies to show off the costume or are they just going to wear them around the house/on whatever errands you happen to go on that day? Oh I guess, those in daycare have a different situation, so this is mostly a question for the SAHMs.
Tandis- Have a great vacation!
So, we just got back from Millie's 6 month ped visit. He said she's right on target as far as milestones, etc, but she's only gained 7oz. since her 4 month visit and dropped from the 25th percentile to the 5th. He said he's not worried and we shouldn't worry either, but he does want to see her again in a month for a weight check. I can't help but be a tad concerned honestly. I mean, she nurses a lot and eats all the solid food that comes in her direction, so why is she not gaining? I know there is someone who had a small first baby (Kindermom??)- any words of wisdom?

Bedtime ~ ha, no consistency. I just put her down and it's 9:00, I guess that's pretty normal. Last night she was up until after 11:00 though, ugh. I need to get better about getting her to bed earlier. She was way overtired last night.
Halloween ~ no idea yet but definitely something girly. When my 2nd was a baby I dressed her up as a ladybug and everyone kept calling her a "him". I guess I need to find something pink. We have trick-or-treating at the town square here so when my oldest was too little to actually eat candy we still dressed her up and just walked around with everybody else.
betsy ~ I think it's pretty commom for kids to slow way down in weight gain at this age because they are getting much more mobile. I know my oldest only gained 1 pound between 4 and 6 months. I remember my SIL saying her son didn't gain anything between 4 and 6 months.
Morgan has her 6 month checkup tomorrow. I can't wait to see how much she weighs but I'm also nervous because I have to see a new doctor and I have to tell him I don't want any shots. I know they can't force me, I just don't like confrontation. :)

Tandis - I bought the 6-12 months. He fits in 6-9 months now and I do not expect him to grow THAT much by the time Halloween rolls around.
Orajel - My ped recommends against it as it can impede swallowing because of the numbing agent. It can then cause the baby to choke on their own saliva. Rare but still...

Betsy- Once they start moving, they slow down their weight gain. Try high fat foods like avocado and you can 'super charge' her food by adding a bit either formula or cereal to the jars of baby food. Extra calories, not a lot of extra bulk. I wouldn't be super concerned until the doctor is. Is she peeing and pooping well? (John is still barely 14 lbs, so I understand a bit of alarm on your part.)
Halloween- My mom just got John a "Pea in a Pod" costume from a co-worker. SOOOOO cute! I have been eyeing it since Edward was a baby, so I'm thrilled to get it. We didn't dress Edward up for his first Halloween, I thought it was silly to go trick or treating with a three month old, but John will get dressed because he'll go around with Edward trick or treating, though I'm not taking a bag for him for Candy. We have enough problems with candy in this house and Edward wanting it non-stop that I'm not adding to the problem!!

When will the growth spurt end??? I am one tired momma! Ollie has been consistently eating every 1 1/2 to 2 hours during the day. Bed time is between 7:30 and 8:30 depending on his last nap and then he has been waking to eat at 11:45p, 3:45a, 6:45a and again at 8:30ish. He has been taking one long nap a day, but even then he often wakes half way through to eat and then goes right back down to finish napping. I miss my baby who sttn!!! I'm going to introduce some avacodo tomorrow night. I know it is loaded with good fats so maybe that will help {fingers crossed}?
Halloween ~ I've been looking at this really cute monkey costume. It's only $13.99 at babyage.com, but they are out of stock. Oriental Trading has it for $19.95 which isn't bad if babyage doesn't get more soon. We will probably walk around with my sisters kids, and I'm sure I'll have him wear it for the day at work and while we are out and about. Halloween is probably my favorite holiday, so I am pretty excited.
Solid Poo ~ p-u is all I can say!
Mia ~ have you heard back from Janey? I feel like its been a really long time since we've heard from her...

Happy1- We go to bed anywhere between 6:45 and 8. It depends on his last nap and his disposition. He is usually happy until bedtime, and if he is it's easier to get him to sleep. He sleeps until 7-8 am.
Whit- we love the boulevard too. It's so easy to adjust.
Kinder- turtles are my favorite! I'll bet that's so cute.
Tandis- I hope the girls are good for their trip! Have fun!
Betsy- it's so hard not to worry, even if the doc says not to! We are dressing Noah up for daycare and pictures. We don't know anyone to trick or treat with.
Buffy- good luck with the new doc. I'm the same way.
lady- that sounds like a cute costume. What's Edward going to be?
Mrs. K- I hope you get some rest soon! Is he trying to double his weight or what?!

We took Noah to the doctor and he has hand, foot, and mouth. He has blisters on his throat, hence the screaming when he tried to eat. He was feeling better last night and ate, and slept all night. This morning he was fine. Then daycare called and said he was cranky and wouldn't go to sleep even though the tried for 10 minutes.
I picked him up and he's fine. After only a week in daycare I'm pretty convinced I hate them. They act like he's a huge burden to them, when really he's a very easygoing baby (everyone says so- I promise it's not just me!). The two other babies in the room are always crying when I'm there, and Noah is just playing quietly. One of the teachers doesn't even speak to me, and the note they wrote to me was really snotty. If he was cranky for 20 minutes, maybe they should just deal with it. Is it too much to ask that people who are working with babies actually like them and know how to take care of them? Grrr.

shimmer ~ sorry Noah is sick. :( I wouldn't like that daycare either.
Morgan had her 6 month appointment today.
Her stats now:
17lbs 9oz
26 inches
head size is 17 inches
I told the doctor I hadn't given her any shots yet and he asked if I wanted to now. I said no and he said ok. Easy peasy! Whew.

MAG....I'm the same way...Dry cleaning, what's that?
MrsK...I did that day...but haven't gotten to the update for reasons posted below.
6 month WBV....Aaron is 18lbs 9 oz, and 26.5 inches long. We started him on solids the very next day and he was so excited about it (despite his face in the picture). Didn't have any questions as to what the spoon was for, or what to do with the stuff on it. I can't wait to try carrots and peas and all the good stuff!

NEW WEBSITE FYI!!!....OK, Janey replied to my request for the password so I have it. But my parents came in town for the week so I've been busy with them and haven't been on CC much at all. But they flew out today so I'm back. I'll get the new site up tonight or tomorrow.

Hey Ladies, I know I have been awful about posting, but things have been so crazy around here lately. I just have a minute to post a quick question to anyone who can help me out.
Julia is now 8 mos. old (as of Thursday) and she has been doing a great job with eating solids and nursing...until two days ago. Two days ago she stopped wanting to nurse at all at night. We had a normal routine of bathing, reading a story, and then nursing her for a while before she heads to sleep. Two days ago she stopped wanting anything to do with nursing from bedtime on...until the morning (7am or later) at which time she will begin nursing again as if nothing changed. However...at night time when she does wake up (which happens a lot lately we think because of teething) she wants to eat...but only from the bottle. She will drink the whole bottle and then go right back to sleep. I don't know what to make of it and I can't seem to find anything about this situation on the Internet. :( She weighs 14lbs, 7oz now and she is doing a great job with eating in general. I don't know what changed in the last two days. I am very concerned. Any ideas?
On a different note: lady1297: I got the pea pod costume for Julia too. I can't wait to have her wear it...even if we aren't going anywhere. I am excited for her first Halloween.
Miaclear: I love that picture. :)
I have to run. I hope you are all well and I will try to do a better job keeping in touch.

ieducate - the only thing I can think of is if you recently changed to a faster flow nipple and maybe now she prefers that to the breast? Can you do a bait and switch and give her an oz or two from the bottle holding her the same way you do when you nurse, then quickly take it away and try to get her to latch on?

Poo Update - Just wanted to let you gals know that I think the prunes have helped DD with her bowel issues. I am still puzzled about the whole issue as I thought avocados wouldn't cause such an issue. Maybe it is just associated with the switch from loose bowels to more solid and stinky ones!!
Halloween Costume - DD is going to be a chicken that I got from babystyle.com. I can't wait to see her in it as it is a really cute costume!!
Bedtime - DD is actually really good about this and she normally goes down for the evening around 8pm give or take 30 minutes either direction!!
Mrs K. - I would look at Old Navy as they had a really cute monkey costume and it is 25% of right now!!
Shimmer - I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having with daycare. Sending your child with strangers is hard enough and to add to the stress you have people who don't make it any easier. Have you looking into finding someone who does it out of their home? I have been really happy with the home daycare situation we found for DD as I like the extra attention she gets!!
Mia - Great picture as the faces associated with feeding time are just too precious!!
Ieducate - I am not sure as to the reasoning either, but I would try the bait and switch as well. As for the nipples I have kept DD on the slow flow since giving her the bottle at daycare as I was told it helps when you want to switch between bottle and breast feeding.
Kindermom - Again great feeding time picture as they are just characters when it comes to food. I have started giving DD her own spoon when I feed her to entertain her as well as get her use to the spoon.

Halloween: I got Carter a chicken outfit from BRU for Halloween. I am still up for finding something new, but haven't found anything I like better yet. If you girls want to post pictures, I am always in need of ideas! :) I am just sad we are not going to be here for his first Halloween (Las Vegas). I will just have to take some pictures early.
Teeth: No teeth yet... still waiting!
Carter is getting mobile. He has almost figured out the correct stance for crawling. Now he just needs to figure out how to move! I'm not looking forward to it, though. haha

Carter loves green beans and carrots (that's all we've tried so far) but he also likes to puke them back up (sometimes) so that is a mess for our WHITE carpet! haha

Ladies
Loving the pictures!
DD is starting to learn a bit more of how to get what she wants by throwing a fit. She doesn't really do it to me but does it to my DH all the time. As he is a SAHD he is super frustrated. I know what I do with her to keep her happy when I am home with her all day but what do you do with your DC to keep them 'entertained' and happy? TIA!
Am I the only one who hasn't started solids? We have everything but have not started. We definately will NLT 6 months but so far she is interested in food but still content to nurse. She is still a chunky little monkey!

ieducate - my only suggestion would have been the bait and switch... sorry, no real help...
bedtime help... ok so last night joe woke up for the first time at 10:00. he usually goes much later, so i went upstairs with the full intention of NOT feeding him til his NEXT wakeup... and, he was totally sleepy because teh second i picked him up, he snuggled his head into my shoulder and went back to sleep. It took THREE tries to get him back into his crib, but i finally did it. Went to get ready for bed...am just pulling the covers back and WWAAAHHHH... WTF?!? this time i gave in and fed him, and he went back for about two hours.(his longest stretch alone all night btw) ... any ideas???? (its sooo killin me)
eta: oh..shimmer. Find a new daycare. ASAP. not liking daycare was the #1 reason for me becoming a sahm sooner than planned (we were gonna wait for #2, but out daycare sucked big time, and i wanted out asap.. i have no complaints, but i was miserable all 3 months he was there)

Crawling- she's crawling! I didn't think it would happen this fast. She's into everything already. Must start babyproofing.
Teeth- I can feel one breaking through. Any idea of how long it will take before it's visible?
Halloween- I want Claire to be a bear, but I can't find any good bear costumes. I hadn't even thought about dressing her up to show her off, I was just going to dress her up and hang around the house. Our neighbors have a haunted house, so we should get some trick-or-treaters.
Solids- we still haven't started solids, either. I figure we'll start in a few weeks.
Tandis- have fun on your trip!
MAG- white carpet with an infant?!? What were you thinking? ;)
Betsy- Is Millie really active? I know that a lot of babies slow down when they get mobile. I would keep my eye on it and offer high fat/ high calorie foods and let her nurse as much as she wants but not worry too much. There's a chart on Kellymom with calorie and fat contents of baby food. I'm glad your ped isn't concerned. I wouldn't have worried nearly as much about Claire if her ped hadn't starting talking about failure to thrive at 6 weeks. I was stressed out for a really long time but now at 5 months, although she still doesn't eat well or weigh as much as she should, she's pretty healthy and I don't worry so much anymore.
buffy- glad the ped was cool about no vaxes.

Personally, I can't wait until my girls slow down in their growth! Even though they're mobile - via their walkers, plus rolling all around - they still managed to gain almost four pounds in two months!
Stats from yesterday's 6 month WBV:
Veronica:
20.4 lbs (97%)
28" long (off the charts)
19 1/4" head (off the charts)
Audrey:
21.2 lbs (off the charts)
28" long (off the charts)
17 3/4" (98%)
So V is at least back *on* the charts for her weight, but she and A are taller than the average 6 mo. old, and A is heavier as well. I really hate to say it, since they are doing such a good job of growing, but I'm getting really sick of buying a new wardrobe for them every two months. Not to mention that they're quickly outgrowing everything we have for them (bouncers, swings, heck, even the bumbo has a weight limit!)!
Turns out, even though I've been saying A was teething for months now, she is nowhere close to popping teeth. I had the Dr. double check. So that crabby disposition is just my Audrey. ;) V on the other hand, has a tooth that is really close to breaking through - and she's been in a terrific mood the last two weeks! I joked that her sister was doing enough drooling, chewing, crabbiness for the both of them ;)
The only bad news of the appt. is that A needs to go on her tummy/side more often because her forehead is starting to bulge due to pressure on the back of her head. So all naps from now on must be on her tummy, and she has to sit up as much as possible. Hopefully that will make her head fix itself, otherwise we're going to have to get a helmet.

Thank you all for the advice on how to get Julia to nurse at night. We are still working on it, but I did manage to get her to nurse at 4am this morning. I just couldn't get her to do it before bedtime or at 12:30am when she woke up starving. :( Tonight she fussed big time before bedtime so I gave her a bottle. She drank most of it and then nursed for about two minutes before she just lost it and had to go to sleep. I am thinking about nursing her before her bath instead of after and see if that makes a difference. The only problem is with that scenario is that it may confuse her AND I don't want her to wake up even earlier to eat during the night. Of course, if I had my wish...she wouldn't wake up at all during the night for any reason. I don't know why she is waking up so hungry lately...she was actually sleeping almost 10 hours a night not too long ago and then recently went back to waking 2-3 times a night to eat or just fuss. AGH. I am exhausted.
As for teeth...she has two very sharp ones coming in on the bottom, but that's it. She is in a relatively good mood considering, but she drools a lot and she didn't do well when they first started coming in a few days ago. We give her baby Tylenol on occasion to help keep her fever down.
Looking forward to the new thread...I tried to get the link to work as well and it didn't. :( Talk to you all soon. Stay well.
