I am hoping to attact anyone that has had to lose weight because of diagnosed medical problems.
I was diagnosed as hypothyroid in January and type 2 diabetic in March. (Though I was subclinical with the thyroid stuff and borderline diabetic for ~4 years before these diagnoses.) I have lost 30 lbs since January and I feel healthier than I have since I graduated from college 7 years ago when I was almost too skinny. Slowly, but surely, the weight is coming off - and that's the way my endocrinologist and dietician would like to see it come off, especially since I lost 35 lbs in 2001 and gained it all back and MORE by the end of last year. I have 15-20 lbs left to lose.
My thyroid levels stabilized with just a little tweaking of levothyroxine and I'm handling the diabetes with diet/exercise alone with fantastic results. (except tonight with Mexican food...ack!)
Diet - 30-45 g of carbs per meal with those having no more than 6 g of sugar, at least 2 g of dietary fiber. I also try to stick to no more than 2 g of saturated fat (and succeed at breakfast and lunch, anyways...) Lots of veggies and two servings of fruit a day, most days.
Exercise - from January to earlier this month, I was walking 30-45 minutes 3-5 times a week. I just completed week 2 of a 9-week couch-to-5k running program this evening. Yay! I have been doing a run/walk for 25 minutes 3 days a week and plan to add a couple days of yoga in this coming week.
