We have a 50's split level with an attached one car garage. The siding is a boring tan, roof is brown (new) and the bottom masonry half is color matched to the boring tan. First we were going to paint the masonry part a dark green/grey. Now to save $$$ this year, I am just going to color match the boring paint and repair whats needed. Garage is the same boring color. Do you keep the garage door the same color as the house body or paint it a trim color? I want to freshen up the trim too. The front door is red now but I think I'm going to try a shade of plum. I making a window box for the bottom window next to the garage too.

I'm saving the money this year so we can buy a much needed awning for over our deck. It cost $2900 and we baked last summer. It will last 20+ years so its worth it.

Suggestions please!

Usually, I see them painted the same color as the trim of the house or the same color as the front door. You can paint it the same color as the house, and I've seen people do that, but I personally, don't like that look.

Ditto what Jennylou said. Ours matches our trim, which is boring white currently. That's what I see most people doing and that's what I think looks best.

I agree--I think the contrast provided by using a trim color looks better.

An olive green could work. I'd also lean toward dark browns or deep reds. Did you say you were leaving the main house colors as they are?

ETA: I'd also paint the trim around the windows and the front door to match whatever you put on the garage door.
